Kernel GPU Reset, Yosemite, MacBook Pro 13 Retina Early 2013

I've recently had 3 occurrences of a GPU reset which has either meant I've had to force a restart or the screen looks odd and I get 'A graphics problem has been detected.'  Never had any issues before installing Yosemite, now had it on 10.10 and 10.10.1.
Anyone any thoughts?
I've reset PRAM and SMC just now so that might fix it?

you cant return it unless you have had it for 14 days or less, but you can bring it to an Apple store or AASP for warranty service.

  • Macbook pro 13 retina early 2013 temperature and fan issue

I bought early 2013 Retina 13' i7 two weeks ago. When I open the computer, the temperature of CPU is around 36 degree. When I just search the website, I find that the temperature is around 50 degree. And I also met the fan problems. It will goes up to 5000+ randomly.
I just want to check about the temperature. Is 50 degree normal for a macbook pro?
    Thank you.

Yes, for a Retina model. Provide for adequate ventilation when in use. Elevate the rear at least 3/4 to 1". Do not use the computer on your lap, beds, or other surfaces that are not solid like a desk or table.

  • Macbook Pro (13" Retina - early 2013) won't shutdown

When I click shutdown my MBP goes to the grey screen with the spinning wheel and thats it. It stays there. If I hold down the power key it turns off, but I would like it to work properly without having to override it.
I'm currently using Mavericks, but this problem existed with the previous OS also. I've had the Genius guys fix it once by doing a system restore, and I've done that one myself. It fixes it for a while and then it eventually just comes back!
I don't think I have any software installed that is isn't commonly installed on most MBPs.
Does anybody know what causes this or how to fix it permanently?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

i have a macbook pro 15" retine, late 2013, should i upgrade OS to Yosemite ?

I suggest that you partition your storage and install Yosemite on the new partition and try it out.  That way you can revert to the prior OSX if you feel it is not worth it.  You also could install it on an external HDD and test it that way.
    Ciao.

Games can be very CPU/GPU intensive and temperatures in the 90°c range are not uncommon.  Note that there are thermal shutdown provisions in the Macbook Pro that will turn the computer off before damage from heat will harm it.
If possible, play games on it in environments are cool and consider a cooling pad if you wish to play games often.
    Ciao.

  • The Macbook Pro 13 Retina late 2013 heat sink

Did any body notice the unusual design of heat sink in Macbook Pro 13 Retina late 2013? The heat sink only covers CPU but NOT the iris GPU. I wonder why is it designed like this? The GPU can generate much more heat under certain conditions.

Hi All, sorry about this post, I studied the architecture of Haswell chips, find out the small little one is the PCH not GPU.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I'm not sure how to connect to the monitor as the only ports available on this model mac are Thunderbolt. The mini display to display cable supplied doesn't seem to work out of the TB port. Do I need to use a Thunderbolt cable + an adaptor?

  • MacBook Pro 13" Retina late 2013?

    Hi all!
I'm a Graphic Designer who will be going to college in a few months so i was thinking about buying a laptop. I already have an iMac but obviously i couldn't take that to college everyday ha! So i've been looking at the new MacBook Pro 13" Retina late 2013 with 256GB flash storage priced at £1,249.00. I was just wondering how the laptop would cope running photoshop all the time and if it would be slow etc. Would anyone recommend it and Is it a good laptop for a designer?
    Thanks,

  • Why my macbook pro 15" retina late 2013 shows weird display spec in the system report.

Hi, my  macbook pro 15" retina late 2013 displays screen resolution as 3360*2100 in the system report. As we all know that the 15" model of late 2013 macbook pro has the maxmium resolution as 2880*1800. So is there anyone has a clue?

Odd. Set the current resolution to "Best for Retina."
    Start up in Safe Mode
    Then reboot normally. Same issue?

We just got a MacBook Pro for my daughter and she used the migration assistant for bringning things to it.  If she wants to start over how do I reset the machine to it's factory defaults?

    Boot into the Recovery Partition:
    - Power on.
    - When you hear the chime, hold down the Command and R keys simultaneously.
    Run Disk Utility.
    - Select the internal drive (upper left disk icon).
    - Erase tab.
    - Format: Mac OS Extended Journaled.
    - Name: Macintosh HD.
    - Erase…
    Quit Disk Utility.
Run Reinstall Install OS X and follow the directions.

  • MacBook Pro 13" Retina (late 2013) very short standby time

I have a new (about 1 month old) MacBook Pro Retina 13" (late 2013). Fastest processor, 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM running OSX Mavericks 10.9.1. The battery life while powered on is normal. However, in standby (when I close the lid or put it on standby manually) the battery life is nowhere near the 30 Days Apple advertises. It's more like 5-8 hours. When in standby! My old 2009 MacBook Pro 15" has a longer standby time with a used battery!
I already turned off PowerNap (where the MacBook updates emails and stuff while in standby) with no differences. Does anybody else experience this short standby time behaviour with their macbooks? Any ideas on how to solve this?
    Thanks!
    Fabio

Can you read anything from that?
What I did in between my post and reading your answer was resetting the SMC. I could not yet test, if this had any influence.

  • Differenze macbook pro 15" retina giugno 2013(2,4Ghz) Vs macbook pro 15" retina novembre 13 (2,0ghz)

    Quali sono le differenze?

    My bad.  Sorry.
But to make it all on board and not upgradeable after purchase?   I have a few choice words to say about that which I can't say here.
*8 GB of RAM is onboard by default, but it can be upgraded to 16 GB at the time of purchase for an extra US$200. RAM cannot be upgraded later.

What that says to me is that you take your chances that nothing will fail until the warranty is gone.
Anything beyond that, you are on your own, unless you can find the parts through someplace like http://www.ifixit.com/
Most previous models offered more flexibility, such as purchasing through http://www.macsales.com/ or http://www.crucial.com/
I guess no more.   RAM can fail at anytime, and frequently without warning.   This is something all computer users need to know.   Further complicating matters is logicboards with built-in peripheral ports can easily be damaged to the point that only swapping in another expensive custom logicboard is practical when someone mishandles connecting the peripherals, not knowing what points are fragile.      Suffice it to say, it really behoves all notebook owners of non-user upgradeable RAM to get a warranty, and be extremely careful with plugable peripherals, including the power cord, since any sign of user damage could be written off as not warrantable.
I would definitely have the RAM replaced by the service center if they haven't already done that.  Many kernel panics are due to bad RAM.

  • Macbook pro 13 retina late 2013 charge capacity problem

I have bought a macbook pro retina late 2013 13 inch (me865) today but something is wrong that my full battery capacity is always changing and cannot show the right capacity of the full battery sometimes it show 6330 mAh sometimes it shows 6309 mAh in the system report power section, so that it can change also my battery time. The cycle is 2 and one thing more we have opened the item in the store to check the item they have plugged  a magsafe2 adapter on it but i didnt see the watt of the magsafe2 now i am charging within 60 watt magsafe 2 which is came out from box is that a problem? I have also reset smc but ıt doesnt effect
also the revision is showing 389?

Take it back where you purchased it or simply come to grips with understanding that the battery will continue to charge to ever decreasing levels. This is normal as the battery use time increases.
