Keyboard & Mouse Not Working (fresh install/open source ati driver)

As the title says, I have a fresh install of arch, installed and configured the xorg as the "Beginners Guide" suggested.

  • Windows 8.1 freeze on any hardware scan or changes. USB wireless keyboard mouse not working

Problem : System Freezes frequently on any hardware scan or changes.
Symptom : Wireless Keyboard Mouse not working.
    Caused by : VMkbd.sys located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers.
Issue : VMware player or VMware Workstation installed on Windows 8.1 causes compatibility issue leading to system freeze
Soultion : Please follow steps below
    Step 1: Start > run > regedit
    Step 2: Locate to this registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e96b-e325-11ce-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Step 3: On the left side plane, Right click on the registry {4d36e96b-e325-11ce-BFC1-08002BE10318} and then export it as backup. Just to be safe.
Step 4: Edit the UpperFilters, The value current would be kdbclass vmkbd. Remove the vmkbd. So only value left would be kbdclass.
Step 5: Restart your system and connect your USB wireless reciever. If all is well it will not freeze your windows now.
This worked for me. Hope this works for you. Enjoy..!!

  • [SOLVED] X not recognizing open source ATI driver

    Greetings all,
I have spent some time searching the forum as well as the wiki for something along the lines of what is going on with my laptop.  Maybe there is something there and I am not providing the correct search criteria.
First some history and what I have done thus far.
I re-installed Arch yesterday.  I had (prior to this install) KDE installed and then installed E17.  I added exec ck-launch-session enlightenment_start to my .xinitrc file and when I entered startx it loaded without a hitch.
Being that this is an older laptop, I found KDE put to much strain on the CPU and decided to just run E17 solo due to it's light footprint.
So I re-installed Arch.  No problem there.  Installed all the required stuff like xorg mesa, hal, dbus, fam etc.  I have an ATI video card in this laptop so like before, I installed "xf86-video-ati" as per the wiki.
I added exec enlightenment_start in my .xinitrc file then launched with "startx"
I do not receive any errors and E launches but the problem I have is the 1st screen does not fully load.  It's scrambled so I can't do anything.  I did not have this problem when I had KDE installed but I do not want to re-install KDE.
Any and all responses and guidance are most appreciated.
All the best, and have a great weekend,
    Ian
Edited to add additional info:  I wanted to add a couple of things that I looked at or tried.
When I run glxgears I get the following error:
    [ichase@ichase~]$ glxgears
    Error: couldn't open display (null)
When I looked at my /etc/X11/xorg.conf under devices I am seeing
    Identifier "Card0"
    Driver "vesa"
    VendorName "ATI Technologies Inc"
If I am reading it correctly, according the the ATI Arch Wiki the Identifier should read what ever my graphics card name is and the Driver should read "Radeon"
I'm starting to think that when I installed the xf86-video-ati driver that it did not take.  Maybe I should try and re-install again.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks again.

@codeRage - I appologize for taking so long to reply.  Had some personal stuff come up that kept me away from the computer.
To answer your question about the output here it is:
    ichase@ichase~ $ lsmod | grep radeon
    radeon 723481 1
    ttm 38517 1 radeon
    drm_kms_helper 21512 1 radeon
    drm 131562 3 radeon,ttm,drm_kms_helper
    i2c_algo_bit 4219 1 radeon
    i2c_core 15144 5 radeon,drm_kms_helper,drm,i2c_algo_bit,i2c_pii X4
Hopefully this tells something.  I re-installed Arch and re-installed Enlightenment.  I also re-installed the open source ATI driver.  I was actually able to get into Enlightenment this time but I am still showing that I am running off the vesa driver and not the ATI driver.
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
    Identifier "Card0"
    Driver "vesa"
    VendorName "ATI Technologies Inc"
Another thing I noticed, I was able to run "glxgears" this time with this output
    {ichase@ichase~}$ glxgears
    225 frames in 5.0 seconds = 44.952 FPS
    226 frames in 5.0 seconds = 45.018 FPS
    225 frames in 5.0 seconds = 44.947 FPS
XI0: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0" after 8134 request (7306 known processed) with 0 events remaining
@sriracha - I have not tried removing the xorg.conf file yet.  After the re-install, I did not get the error again but if I do, I will post it.
Thanks you all for the help and hope everyone is coming off a great weekend.
    All the best,
    Ian

  • Open source ati driver -- garbled graphics

I'm trying to run an openGL game (Uplink-demo) with the open source ati driver, but I just get strange garbled graphics. It's not the card or the game either -- I installed opensuse 10.2 on this same box the other day and had no problems running the game. Even XGL worked surprisingly. But opensuse is a pig next to Arch though so I'm hoping for a fix Here is the result:
    Help! :S
BTW, I can't run the closed source fglrx driver because my card is no longer supported (Radeon 9000, rv250 chipset). The legacy drivers ATI provides don't seem to install with Xorg 7.2.

Nope, no dice. By any chance, does this game load ok for you?

If you tried the fglrx package first did you reinstall libgl or is it libdri? The exact one is in the wiki something having to do with them being the same name but different internally so one is downloaded based on which driver you have...or something like that.
Also do you have the right mesa? This is am totally guessing you do have. But I received weird issues once very similar to yours when I tried to do things with out mesa...
Well, I've never installed fglrx on this box since I already knew about the incompatibility regarding ati cars older than r300. So that's taken out of the equation. Is there a different mesa? I only see one in the packages.
On a whim, I decided to try a fresh install of Arch. I installed xorg, xf86-video-ati, and  gnome + extras -- I basically got the same result. So it's either something missing in my xorg config or I'm missing some gl lib. I hope. Dunno

  • Keyboard mouse not working after Windows update

Question was asked and supposedly answered b4, but didn't tell how to work around no keyboard or mouse. Ie: how do u get to device manager without keyboard/manager? I unplug to reboot and up down keys work in startup. However, when I open in safe mode, keyboard and mouse still don't work.

    Dear Customer,
Welcome and Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Forum
According to the message you have posted I suspect this could be because of the recent changes made if any
Note: You can use an External USB Keyboard and Mouse if in-built Notebook Keyboard is not working
Please perform the below shown steps to resolve the issue:
Step 01. Turn OFF the PC
Step 02. Power ON the PC and keep tapping F8 Key
Step 03. Select "Last known good configuration" from the Advance Boot Option list
Note: Wait till you get to the Windows Desktop
Step 04. Please remove unwanted startup items and uninstall unwanted applications

  • Insert key of keyboard is not working after installing firefox

I was using IE8 as my browser before but recently changed to Firefox. My keyboard was functioning perfectly before I installed Firefox. Now whenever I type text (mostly when composing a message/draft in Google's gmail or Hotmail) the Insert key of the keyboard is not working. This is just not a problem in Gmail or Hotmail but with all programmes!!

Firefox is always in insert mode and doesn't support overwriting text, so you will have to use the Delete or Backspace key to remove unwanted characters.

  • Keyboard/Mouse not working

    Hi,
So I installed Bootcamp and Win XP on my iMac i5 quad core and during the driver install process (after putting in the Snow Leopard DVD) a few windows popped up asking for the location of drivers for new hardware. The DVD didn't seem to know where they were, and I couldn't tell the install to search the internet as the wireless drivers had yet to be installed. And when it was done neither the keyboard or mouse will work.
I thought to try re-installing the drivers but with no mouse control I can't activate the install procedure.
    Please advise.

Yeah... I've fixed it! Well so far so good.
Unfortunately I had to re-install the dirty windows product again! Basically as you described how 'The DVD didn't seem to know where they were' and you selected cancel. This seemed to be the problem. I'm guessing by selecting cancel, the install hasn't finished properly and therefore left the usb ports disabled. The second time I followed the 'found new hardware' windows. It seemed to struggle to find the cirrus audio driver (part of the ATI card). But after searching the dvd a few times it found it.
After reading the apple boot camp install guide it does say 'important: Do not click the cancel button in any of the installer dialogs.'on p10. But it could be made bolder with large red type, since this causes a show stopper.
By the way to do the re-install I had to get the windows xp disc back in the drive which involved getting back into SL. Once you've got the windows xp disc back in the drive, you get the 'select any key to boot cd...' Reinstall on the same partition (bootcamp) as before and reformat the drive.
    Hope this helps

  • Keyboard / Mouse not working correctly all of a sudden

I spilt a little of my drink on my keyboard, but I dried it up with a towel immediately and it seemed fine. I probably was pressing multiple buttons while I was drying it off though. After I got done, the keyboard and mouse are not working right. I can only type my password into the OSX logon screen, then I can't type anything anywhere. When I left click with my mouse, it opens a dialog box instead of clicking (unless I'm clicking on a menu).
What should I do to get it working right again?
    Thanks

Also, when I open Word and could type in it one time, it just showed boxes even though I was using times new roman.

  • Windows via Bootcamp keyboard/mouse not working???

I have a 15" Macbook Pro and have installed Windows 7 Ultimate via bootcamp with all the correct apple support drivers but suddenly my keyboard/mouse will not work at the sign in screen for Windows at all. Up untill this point I could restart my mac and resign in through the windows partition and easily play my favorite games. Recently I tried signing into windows but at the sign in screen I cannot use my mouse nor my keyboard. Please do not tell me to reinstall windows unless that is the only solution because of data not backed up. Is it a driver issue, how can that be because it worked fine for weeks? Please get back to me as soon as possible!!
    Specs:
Processor 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 8 GB (Raam) 1600MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeGorce GT 650M 1024MB
Software OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion)

If the mouse and keyboard are working under OSX then it can't be a hardware issue.
    You could try:
starting Windows in safe mode to see if the mouse and keyboard work. (Press F8 repeatedly just before Windows starts to boot to bring up the Windows boot menu.)  Safe mode loads a set of basic drivers to just get Windows running and no more.
Another thing you can try is unplug the mouse and re-plug it in after a few seconds while at the login window.  The USB ports may re-detect the mouse.
Try booting from a Windows PE CD or USB stick if you have one.  If the keyboard and mouse work under Windows PE then it's probably a driver issue under your Windows install.
Did you install anything under Windows before this happened?

  • Keyboard & Mouse Not Working on Resume From Sleep

About 1/10 of the time when I resume from sleep my keyboard and mouse do not work. They wake the computer (a 27" iMac) but do not work any longer past that, requiring me to hard reboot my computer (holding the power button to turn off then rebooting).
I have no issues using my keyboard and mouse, both bluetooth, at all. When this happens, even hooking up an external keyboard does me no good as it also does not work. Sleeping and reawakening does no good either.
Anyone have any ideas? So far nothing seems amiss when it comes to my configuration or hardware. Thanks in advance!

I have experienced the same problem which affects a 3rd party USB mouse and my wireless trackpad. Both may be unresponsive when the computer (late 2009 21.5" iMac) wakes. When it happens both devices are affected, never just one of them.
I don't need to reboot to fix the problem.  The mouse responds by disconecting and re-connecting. The trackpad reconnects by holding its power button for a few seconds.
The problem does not affect my wireless keyboard.
No clues on the Console. Sorry I can't be more help.

  • Why did my keyboard not work after installing PCIE LAN controller driver?

    I installed the drivers on
    http://www.msi.com/support/mb/B85ME45.html#down-driver&Win7 64
in random order and was not asked to restart my computer until after Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Drivers was installed. I clicked Yes, Restart Now. However, It took the computer quite a long time to try to shutdown. I couldn't wait, so I pressed Reset button on the computer case. The computer restarted. I typed the administrator password. To my surprise, no asterisks appeared in the password box. It seemed as if my keyboard was not connect to my computer.
I had to restart and choose the Safe Mode. In the safe mode, I restored Windows 7 to the previous system restore point, in which Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Drivers had not been installed. Then everything was OK.

don't work either. And the result of installing it is exactly the same as before.

  • Wake on LAN, Keyboard, Mouse not working - PLEASE help!

    Hey Guys,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question.  I have an Asus laptop that is connected to an external keyboard and mouse.  I want to be able to put the PC in sleep mode, then be able to wake it up with the mouse or keyboard.
I've tried many trouble shooting steps, including the enabling of "Power Management" / "Allow this device to wake up the computer" and the enabling of the "USB selective suspend setting" in the power options.  None of which
resolved the issue.  When I enable the "Allow this device to wake up the computer" in the Keyboard, mouse, or LAN adapter, the option does not stay selected after rebooting.  Does anyone know of a solution, or can point me in the right
    directions?
    TIA,
    George

  • [Solved] Slow graphics with RS780M and open source ati driver

EDIT: Well this is embarrasing. Guess this is why there's a new comers forum. I assumed since I installed a couple days ago my system was up to date. However, running pacman -Syu updated my kernal and it works fine now. SOLVED (I'm an idiot)
Hello Arch community. I've been using Ubuntu for a couple years so know that my hardware can work well enough with linux. Almost everything works great with arch with little setup, but I'm stumped as to how to setup the graphics card.
I'm attempting to use the open source drivers, either xf86-video-ati or xf86-video-radeonhd (I don't care which I use in the end). I have both installed so I can try out both, assuming that doesn't cause problems. I've never tried using the catalyst driver in arch, so I know I don't have remenents of that causing problems. Right I have gnome working, but when dragging a window, resizing a window, scrolling, or watching a video I can see the screen slowly refresh. It is definetly not right.
Here's the information that might help:
    [jake@myhost ~]$ lspci | grep Radeon
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS780M/RS780MN [Radeon HD 3200 Graphics]
I've tried various configurations. Right now I'm running without an xorg.conf. This is /var/log/Xorg.0.log from the setup without an xorg.conf

I've also tried it with many xorg.conf files without finding any which give me the same graphics performance I have in ubuntu. Here's the one I was using, with the comments showing some other things I tried.

  • Open source ATI driver, flash 10 slow

    I'm running Arch on a Thinkpad T42:
    - 1.7Ghz Pentium M
    - ATI 9600 (open source driver)
    - Xorg 1.6.3
Direct rendering works, and compiz works fine.  My problem is with Xorg CPU usage when playing any flash movie.  A youtube vid (not HD or HQ) will run in the mid to upper 90% range CPU usage resulting in some pretty choppy video.
Does that imply that I'm not getting any GPU accel on flash?  If so, is there something I can do to change that?  I'm using swiftfox as well.
My xorg.conf file is fairly empty -- i just added a few video tweaks:
    [shane@arch-laptop ~]$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Section "Module"
    Load "glx"
    Load "dri"
    Load "drm"

    Oh whoops
I've run it without an xorg.conf for a while with the same problem.  I just recently added some of those options to speed up compiz a bit.
Let me put it this way:  I'm better off loading my Windows XP virtual machine (vbox) and playing flash in there than I am playing it on the native system, which is simply retarded.
