Killer issue : OBIEE server hits the session cursors or chance.

Hi,
We have seen a killer issue.
We tested a report & saw some data on it, immediately for testing we deleted the data from the backend & again ran the report by clciking on the go button & we saw the same data though the data was delted from the DB.
it is seen that it hits cache or the cursors & because of that, now if we clear just the sessions/cursors/ refresh the results we see no data.
but in real time environment the users wont be accessibl to this & wont be doing this.
Also we have a environment where in we have data updated in short intervals, problem is we cannot implement cache purgin now...
Please suggest.
Pankaj

Valid points, but still the BI Server cache will persist and the request will hit it.
Since you have no access to rpd or DB (what kind of a setup is that anyways?), you also won't be able to do this or this .
Try to find a way to sneak this past your system guys and make it a scheduled task on the server or something.

  • Save the session data in the database !

    Hello everybody,
    I read an article on JavaWorld website about saving the session data of an application in the database instead of mantaing them in memory.
    In this way, the web application is more scalable and in case the application server crashed the session data can be taken by another application server.
    I was sure that this was a good motivation of writing a class to save the session data of my application in the database, but i read another article where a good methodology to
    create a scalable web application was to save the session data in more application server so if one application server crashed another application server can take the control of the entire application.
    I think that at the moment i have just a bit of confusion in my mind.
    Any suggestion ?
    Cheers.
    Stefano

    What you've read was a method of "load balancing" where "state" is maintained by a backend server instead of the web servers themselves. Yes, if done properly, this would achive true web server independance, and if one crashed, another would pick up where it left off. Of course, you'll still need an HTTP load balancer in front of the web server farm, so it can dynamically shift the load.
    From an architecture standpoint, it's a good way to go, but only IF you really need 7x24 with zero downtime. Reason being twofold. 1) It's a huge performance hit, becase each GET/POST requires a trip to the DB, because it's holding state. 2) It's a lot of work, because you're now taking on the role of "managing" sessions (e.g. when to expire, reading the cookie/URL for session IDs.
    I was once responsible for a 7x24 Intranet that ran core business applications. My service level agreement with my customers was 7x24 alright, but with the risk of a possible "blip" (meaning, if one server crashed, simply reconnect and continue your work). Worst case, one lost just that one page worth of work.
    I hope that helps explain!

  • HOW TO MANAGE THE SESSION IN JSF 2.0

    Hi to All.
    I need your help, I am beginner in JSF 2.0, and wanted to know how the sessions work on jsf 2.0?. If you could send a small example.
    I need my web application is safe, for example I have a web page users.xhtml to this web page must be entered after the login.xhtml loggedin and redirect if it is not.
    On the other hand need to handle logout in my web application.
    I hope I can help.
    I thank you in advance for your help.
    Greetings.

    This may help you...
    1. What is Session Tracking?
    There are a number of problems that arise from the fact that HTTP is a "stateless" protocol. In particular, when you are doing on-line shopping, it is a real annoyance that the Web server can't easily remember previous transactions. This makes applications like shopping carts very problematic: when you add an entry to your cart, how does the server know what's already in your cart? Even if servers did retain contextual information, you'd still have problems with e-commerce. When you move from the page where you specify what you want to buy (hosted on the regular Web server) to the page that takes your credit card number and shipping address (hosted on the secure server that uses SSL), how does the server remember what you were buying?
    There are three typical solutions to this problem.
    1. Cookies. You can use HTTP cookies to store information about a shopping session, and each subsequent connection can look up the current session and then extract information about that session from some location on the server machine. This is an excellent alternative, and is the most widely used approach. However, even though servlets have a high-level and easy-to-use interface to cookies, there are still a number of relatively tedious details that need to be handled:
    * Extracting the cookie that stores the session identifier from the other cookies (there may be many, after all),
    * Setting an appropriate expiration time for the cookie (sessions interrupted by 24 hours probably should be reset), and
    * Associating information on the server with the session identifier (there may be far too much information to actually store it in the cookie, plus sensitive data like credit card numbers should never go in cookies).
    2. URL Rewriting. You can append some extra data on the end of each URL that identifies the session, and the server can associate that session identifier with data it has stored about that session. This is also an excellent solution, and even has the advantage that it works with browsers that don't support cookies or where the user has disabled cookies. However, it has most of the same problems as cookies, namely that the server-side program has a lot of straightforward but tedious processing to do. In addition, you have to be very careful that every URL returned to the user (even via indirect means like Location fields in server redirects) has the extra information appended. And, if the user leaves the session and comes back via a bookmark or link, the session information can be lost.
    3. Hidden form fields. HTML forms have an entry that looks like the following: <INPUT TYPE="HIDDEN" NAME="session" VALUE="...">. This means that, when the form is submitted, the specified name and value are included in the GET or POST data. This can be used to store information about the session. However, it has the major disadvantage that it only works if every page is dynamically generated, since the whole point is that each session has a unique identifier.
    Servlets provide an outstanding technical solution: the HttpSession API. This is a high-level interface built on top of cookies or URL-rewriting. In fact, on many servers, they use cookies if the browser supports them, but automatically revert to URL-rewriting when cookies are unsupported or explicitly disabled. But the servlet author doesn't need to bother with many of the details, doesn't have to explicitly manipulate cookies or information appended to the URL, and is automatically given a convenient place to store data that is associated with each session.
    2. The Session Tracking API
    Using sessions in servlets is quite straightforward, and involves looking up the session object associated with the current request, creating a new session object when necessary, looking up information associated with a session, storing information in a session, and discarding completed or abandoned sessions.
    2.1 Looking up the HttpSession object associated with the current request.
    This is done by calling the getSession method of HttpServletRequest. If this returns null, you can create a new session, but this is so commonly done that there is an option to automatically create a new session if there isn't one already. Just pass true to getSession. Thus, your first step usually looks like this:
    HttpSession session = request.getSession(true);
    2.2 Looking up Information Associated with a Session.
    HttpSession objects live on the server; they're just automatically associated with the requester by a behind-the-scenes mechanism like cookies or URL-rewriting. These session objects have a builtin data structure that let you store any number of keys and associated values. In version 2.1 and earlier of the servlet API, you use getValue("key") to look up a previously stored value. The return type is Object, so you have to do a typecast to whatever more specific type of data was associated with that key in the session. The return value is null if there is no such attribute. In version 2.2, getValue is deprecated in favor of getAttribute, both because of the better naming match with setAttribute (the match for getValue is putValue, not setValue), and because setAttribute lets you use an attached HttpSessionBindingListener to monitor values, while putValue doesn't. Nevertheless, since few commercial servlet engines yet support version 2.2, I'll use getValue in my examples. Here's one representative example, assuming ShoppingCart is some class you've defined yourself that stores information on items being purchased.
    HttpSession session = request.getSession(true);
    ShoppingCart previousItems =
    (ShoppingCart)session.getValue("previousItems");
    if (previousItems != null) {
    doSomethingWith(previousItems);
    } else {
    previousItems = new ShoppingCart(...);
    doSomethingElseWith(previousItems);
    In most cases, you have a specific attribute name in mind, and want to find the value (if any) already associated with it. However, you can also discover all the attribute names in a given session by calling getValueNames, which returns a String array. In version 2.2, use getAttributeNames, which has a better name and which is more consistent in that it returns an Enumeration, just like the getHeaders and getParameterNames methods of HttpServletRequest.
    Although the data that was explicitly associated with a session is the part you care most about, there are some other pieces of information that are sometimes useful as well.
    * getId. This method returns the unique identifier generated for each session. It is sometimes used as the key name when there is only a single value associated with a session, or when logging information about previous sessions.
    * isNew. This returns true if the client (browser) has never seen the session, usually because it was just created rather than being referenced by an incoming client request. It returns false for preexisting sessions.
    * getCreationTime. This returns the time, in milliseconds since the epoch, at which the session was made. To get a value useful for printing out, pass the value to the Date constructor or the setTimeInMillis method of GregorianCalendar.
    * getLastAccessedTime. This returns the time, in milliseconds since the epoch, at which the session was last sent from the client.
    * getMaxInactiveInterval. This returns the amount of time, in seconds, that a session should go without access before being automatically invalidated. A negative value indicates that the session should never timeout.
    2.3 Associating Information with a Session
    As discussed in the previous section, you read information associated with a session by using getValue (or getAttribute in version 2.2 of the servlet spec). To specify information, you use putValue (or setAttribute in version 2.2), supplying a key and a value. Note that putValue replaces any previous values. Sometimes that's what you want (as with the referringPage entry in the example below), but other times you want to retrieve a previous value and augment it (as with the previousItems entry below). Here's an example:
    HttpSession session = request.getSession(true);
    session.putValue("referringPage", request.getHeader("Referer"));
    ShoppingCart previousItems =
    (ShoppingCart)session.getValue("previousItems");
    if (previousItems == null) {
    previousItems = new ShoppingCart(...);
    String itemID = request.getParameter("itemID");
    previousItems.addEntry(Catalog.getEntry(itemID));
    // You still have to do putValue, not just modify the cart, since
    // the cart may be new and thus not already stored in the session.
    session.putValue("previousItems", previousItems);
    3. Example: Showing Session Information
    Here is a simple example that generates a Web page showing some information about the current session. You can also download the source or try it on-line.
    package hall;
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;

  • How to know when server automatically invalidates session

    Hi !!!
    I am storing a result set in the session .....
    Well there is some need to store result set in the sesssion..I am displaying data in my JSP by retrieving the data from the result set...Now I want to close the connection and result set... when the server invalidates the session ......
    Any way to do that???
    Reagrd

    If objects that you store in session implement HttpSessionBindingListener,
    they will be notified by valueBound() and valueUnbound() methods when object
    is stored or removed from the session. Object is removed from the session when the session is invalidated, so you can close your db connections from valueUnbound() method. I had the same problem and this works for me.

    Hello,
    In fact you may use orakill it's an Oracle utility for Windows so as to Kill the thread corresponding
    to the session.
    It's equivalent to a kill -9 on Unix.
    Please find here a link about the use of orakill:

  • How to kill the session after the user exit the ADF application

    Dear all
    I have a problem
    The problem is the session still exist after the user close the application and the browser. I want to kill all sessions that is not active.
    This is my test scenario:
    1- I open IE and run my ADF application that is deployed on weblogic. http://192.168.100.17:7001/myapp/faces/login
    2- At the same time I issue this SQL command to view the sessions for user 'ADFUSER' - the "ADFUSER" is the schema user.
    SELECT USERNAME,STATUS FROM v$session
    WHERE USERNAME = 'ADFUSER';QUERY RESULT IS
    USERNAME                       MODULE                                           STATUS
    ADFUSER                         JDBC Thin Client                                 INACTIVE3- Now the user close the browser
    4- Run the SQL again and I notice that the session still exist
    SELECT USERNAME,STATUS FROM v$session
    WHERE USERNAME = 'ADFUSER'RESULT:
    USERNAME                       MODULE                                           STATUS
    ADFUSER                        JDBC Thin Client                                 INACTIVE5- now the user open the URL again http://192.168.100.17:7001/myapp/faces/login
    6-Run the SQL again , and I notice that the old session still exists and a new session created too.
    SELECT USERNAME,STATUS FROM v$session
    WHERE USERNAME = 'ADFUSER'RESULT:
    USERNAME                       MODULE                                           STATUS
    ADFUSER                        JDBC Thin Client                                 INACTIVE
    ADFUSER                        JDBC Thin Client                                 INACTIVE
    2 rows selected.and every time I login to the application , a new session is open and the old session still exist
    I do not know why this happens
    I want to kill old session when the user close the application.
    These sessions are cleared only when i restart the weblogic domain.
    here is some information about my development environment:
    Jdeveloper 11.1.2.3
    WebLogic Server Version: 10.3.5.0
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
    for performance reasons you should not use dedicated user connections to the database. Instead you use JDBC data sources (default in JDeveloper for ADF BC) that you can configure the database connection pooling for. This means that your v$session will always show a set of active session, which however are shared among users. Assuming you use ADF BC, this is what happens
    - A user requests a data bound page
    - The ADF BC checks out an AM and connects to the database using one of the database connections in the pool
    ... user work here ...
    - user exits application
    - ADF BC returns AM to pool and passivates pending user state (if application is left with dirty transaction)
    - Database connection is available in pool as soon as AM released
    This also happens between requests. Long story cut short: v$session doesn't give you a true picture

  • Server 2012 R2 RDS- Only want the Session Host, Connection Broker and Licensing Server!

    Hi all,
    Wondering if anyone has experience with implementing Remote Desktop Services (RDS) on Windows Server 2012 R2.
    I am doing an RDS design for a platform where we only need an RDS Session Host, Licensing Server and Connection Broker. We do not need web access as these servers will simply be jump boxes internally!
    However, implementing this correctly in our test environment has proved to be tricky. The options are:
    Use the Server Manager and do a traditional install via Roles and Features ( specifically add the Session Host, Licensing Server and Connection Broker). The installation process seems to go through ok in this scenario but when I head over to the Remote
    Desktop Services section of the Server Manager I simply get the message 'An RDS Deployment does not exist in the server pool. To create a deployment head to Roles and Features'.
    Use the specific ‘Remote Desktop Services installation’ option on the Server Manager and do a Session Based Desktop deployment and Quick Start. This installation process seems to go through correctly and the Remote Desktop Section seems to be working
    correctly via the Server Manager. However this process is ‘hard locked’ i.e. it installs the session host, web access and connection broker. I can then remove the web access component later from Roles/ Features.
    Is there a best practice (if any) for installation? i.e. Will there be any issues down the line if I remove RDS Web Access from my server while following method 2?
    There is a complete lack of documentation from Microsoft here so not sure what to do! Just need a basic RDS session based deployment.

    Hi,
    As I know from server 2012\R2 the best deployment skill is to perform via “Remote Desktop Services” installation mode with Standard deployment and don’t let single role to install. Because when we install through RDS mode, there are specific extra tools and
    services activated along with that deployment which you can’t find with single role installation. And that is for sure, when we install RDS role as of this, by default we will get install RDCB, RDSH and RDWA role installed.
    Sorry don’t have any option to try to remove that role as that role basically needed for RemoteApp and Desktop purpose. But if you want then you can try it with help of “Remove-RDServer”Powershell command.

    Hope it helps!

    I have noticed an issue with utilizing the “stream” function on iOS 7. If you choose to just stream the movie by hitting the play button it seems to actually start downloading (which is fine) but if you are say halfway thru the movie and stop you can clearly see that storage has been reduced under the usage, yet under the “videos” tab it still states “No Data” the only way to delete what you have partially downloaded is to fully download the video, which is fine but there is no way to tell what videos have been partially downloaded (I.e which occurs a lot when your child switches between movies using the so called “stream” function). This becomes troublesome once the capacity of the ipad is almost met and you have no way to delete this data since you may have several videos that have started to be viewed (hence partially downloaded). Apple needs to somehow make it truly streaming or provide an update so the storage can be managed. The only way I have been able to remove partially downloaded videos is by doing a total software restore. (The video data that is in question when connected to my MacBook shows up in iTunes as “other”) if you have any insight into this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Here are the screenshots for what it's worth.

    '''Again, when I set my DNS server to automatically detect the servers both problems disappear and I have no issues at all.'''
    IMO opendns is either doing this on purpose (unlikely) or they're under some sort of attack/being used to attack the specific torrent sites although I'm open to other explanations. I believe using the automatic setting for DNS is using my own ISP's DNS servers (which again, work fine... but still...)
    I'd rather not use Google's public DNS servers as Google is to commercial these days and I think there's potential privacy issues.
    '''Again I have changed the setting for DNS servers back and forth several times to duplicate/verify the issue(s)... and the issues only happen with the opendns servers.'''

  • PostNetText hits the server twice for a single call

    I'm having some serious problems with a Shockwave bug regarding the behavior of postNetText.
    In a Shockwave test movie I've created, I'm calling an in-house web service as follows:
    on makeRequest theRequestURL
      gNetID = postNetText(theRequestURL, member("PostString").text, "UNIX", "ASCII")
    end
    where I've entered a valid request string in the text field "PostString".
    When I run this in Safari/Mac, the server sees the request twice, in rapid succession.
    When I run this in Firefox/Mac, the server sees the request just once.
    In both cases, I do get a valid response back. (The problem is that one of the calls I make creates entries in a data table on the server, and the doubled request causes the entry to get created twice. Bad.)
    What I've tried:
    Compiled with just-installed Dir 11.5, but also had the problem with Dir 10.
    Installed Shockwave 11.5, but also had the problem with Shockwave 10 and 11.
    Tried with Safari 3 and 4, on Mac OS X 10.4.x and 10.5.x.
    Ran the debugger to make sure the handler got called just once. (It does.)
    I'm hoping this can get fixed, or a workaround suggested, since an ongoing issue with vanishing content when running Shockwave in Firefox on the Mac make that option unusable.
    Cheers,
    Mitch

  • How to redirect a JSP page after the session is killed

    Hello!
    I am quite new to JSP. I have a question about how to redirect a jsp page after the session is killed. Could anyone help?
    thanks a lot in advance!

    You can't, directly. There's no connection betweenthe server and browser.
    even after invalidating the session. we can do it
    directly using the statement
    response.sendRedirect("....");
    or we can use the meta refresh tag.if session is invalidated and if we try to do response.sendRedirect(".. ") it throws IllegalStateException

  • OBIEE Query not hitting the other fact table

    Hi All,
    I am trying to create report based on two fact column and one dimension. Dimension is connected with these two facts table. When i create report using one column from dimension and one column from respective facts so i get two scenerio...
    For example let say..
    D1 is dimension and F1 and F2 are two fact tables.
    First i used a column which have aggregation rule from one fact and one column from other fact which also have aggregate column.
    That is report like...
    D1.c1,Agg(F1.c2),Agg(F2.c3)
    When i run the report I get the data from dimension and only from first fact table. When i check the query, Query contain only one fact table and it doesnt hit the other one.
    Now in second scenerio i used one column from dimension, one column from first fact which have aggregation rule and one column from second fact which doesnt have any aggregation rule.
    like...
    D1.c1,Agg(F1.c2),F2.c3
    When i run the report i got the error. It says
    State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 14026] Unable to navigate requested expression: F1 -C2 . Please fix the metadata consistency warnings. (HY000).
    But there is no warning in RPD.
    I am amazed that it is not taking both the fact columns even the dimension is confirmed dimension and have joined with both the fact tables.
    As i am just started to learn OBIEE, So i am find it bit difficult that how OBIEE select the tables and formed physical query.
    Waiting for your help.
    Regards
    Suhail

    Aadi-Wasi,
    Thumb rule, OBIEE BMM layer must contain a simple star schema.
    Did your BMM layer suffice the above condition? If hope, Not.
    My prediction of your BMM layer structure contains 3 logical tables, i.e. dimension & 2 logical facts...which is not a simple star.
    Thus to make it a simple star collapse 2 logical fact tables into 1 logical fact table. As you mentioned dimension is linked to both facts, collapsing 2 logical fact tables into 1 logical fact table will provide the result for your query1.
    regarding your second error:

  • Remote desktop connections not showing in server manager 2012 for one of the session hosts

    This is a three server deployment with one server being the connection broker, gateway, licensing, etc with two session host only servers.
    rdmgr
    rd1
    rd2
    Using the server manager on the rdmgr connection broker (or any other server for that matter) yields only connections from rd2 with nothing from rd1 displaying.
    Users can connect to rd1 without issue.
    At one point rd1 had the connection broker role installed also but high availability was not setup.  I removed the role hoping it would correct the problem but no luck.
    Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi,
    1. Is rd1 part of a collection?
    2. On rd1, in Computer Management, is the broker's computer account a member of the local RDS Management Servers group?
    3. If you run the below command do you get a list of sessions:
    query user /server:rd1
    4. Any errors/warnings in either the broker's or rd1's event log?
    Broker: Event Viewer\ Applications and Services Logs\ Microsoft\ Windows\ TerminalServices-SessionBroker
    rd1: Event Viewer\ Applications and Services Logs\ Microsoft\ Windows\ TerminalServices-SessionBroker-Client
    Both: System and other logs
    -TP

  • Starting a managed server session and keeping the session when you exit

    I created a managed server named "xxx_mgd" with the create managed server wizard in the admin console
    when I start the managed server it produces a prompt for the username and password, whcih is the same username
    and password entered when i was created. The issue I have is that when I exit the session, the process dies.
    In comparison to the starting of the admin server, which is started with custom scripts which calls the standard wl startup scripts and it runs in background using nohup....
    Is there away to start my managed server the same way, so that it stays running when you exit. I have tried running it as the admin server, using an option where the password if fed, but it dies and never startup
    If you have any clue let me know
    Joseph

    Assuming that you are running WebLogic version 9.x and above.
    Copy the "security" folder inside DOMAIN_HOME/servers/AdminServer directory to DOMAIN_HOME/servers/ManagedServer directory.
    This security folder will have boot.properties file which contains encrypted username and password which is used when starting the server.
    You can run Admin Server in background using nohup command as below from DOMAIN_DIRECTORY. This command will redirect stdout to AdminServer.out file.
    nohup ./startWebLogic>>AdminServer.out &
    You can run Managed Server in background using nohup command as below from DOMAIN_DIRECTORY/bin folder. This command will redirect stdout to ManagedServer.out file.
    nohup ./startManagedWebLogic.sh <Managed Server Name> t3://<AdminServerListenAddress>:<PortNo> >>ManagedServer.out &
    Hope this helps.

  • Windows Server 2012 The licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server is not configured

    Hi
    I have a standard Windows Server 2012 that is hosted in the cloud by a hosting provider -
    This server has been up and running fir 6 months - recently we have been getting a warning
    "The licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server is not configured" - The Remote Desktop Session Host server is within its grace period, but the RD Session Host server has not been configured with any license server.
    Yet, we only use this with 2 connections as part of the standard licence agreement and this server is not used as a user's desktop only an ftp and web server- do therefore we do not need to purchase any cal licences (we have another server with the same
    hosting company that does not have this issue and has been up for 18months)
    Please can someone advise how I resolve this issue, the hosting company states that I must resolve it as they only host and resell the server licence
    Thank-you
    Richard Steele

    Hi Richard,
    You need to uninstall Remote desktop session host feature. After removing it, you will default two connections which does not need to purchase RD CALs'.
    Thanks,
