• Workflow Java Mailer - Where is it?

Hi,
I have installed Oracle Workflow Server Release 10.1.0.3 for Linux x86 standalone on a on a 10.1.0.4 database run the configuration assistant. The DAD is configured in the 10G Standalone HTTPD which i installed from the 10.1.0.3 companion CD and after sorting out a number of installation issues the installation was successful.
I have one missing component and that is the Java Mailer which is said to be 'included' with Workflow server 2.6.3 in the install notes:
Oracle® Workflow Installation Notes for Oracle Database Release 2.6.3 February 2004 Part No. B12169-01
Quote "Java-based Workflow Notification Mailer: The Notification System includes a Java-based program called a notification mailer, implemented as a service component within the Generic Service Component Framework, which communicates notifications to users via e-mail and interprets responses. Oracle Workflow provides one seeded notification mailer service component called the Workflow Notification Mailer. This program requires an outbound SMTP mail server and an inbound IMAP mail server"
after chasing my tail for hours trying to find where and how this components needs to be installed I came across 266612.1 which has some references to a. Oracle® Content Management SDK 10g (9.0.4.2.0) and Oracle® Application Server Integration 10g (10.1.2.0.0).
I have looked at the documentation for these two components and there is nothing specific mentioned about the Java Mailer, although workflow is mentioned amoung other things..
If someone could point me in the right direction i would be exceedingly grateful. What I thought was a simple exercise in getting workflow installed and being able to send emails using the standard workflow API's and turned into a monumental journey of frustration and utter waste of time which a customer is paying for.
Reading between the lines it looks like i need yet another installation of Oracle (the 10.1.2) application server along with the two components above.
Also, Workflow 2.6.4 is included in the 10G Release 2 Database companion CD. Is the Java Mailer included with this version?
My apologies if this post has come across somewhat indignant, I get annoyed when people flame in posts and then ask for help, but i am genuinely needing advice from someone who done the seemingly impossible.
regards,
Brenden

Sorry, for database installation there is a seperate application to manage workflow (can't remember the name but you can find it in the apache server middle tier or you can view "install" folder a WF***MANAGER.ear file in there, start up your apache and run it in your browser ).
The parameter you entered in config assistant for mailer isn't enough to get it working because you need some extra bits, for example the password and the path that points to processed folder and discard folder, etc. All of these bit can be set in workflow manager, remember don't keep looking for the JAR file for mailer, even if you found it you can do nothing about it unless you successfully run the workflow manager after installation.
Once you have the workflow manager up and running you shall be able to config the mailer in there.
List of steps: (if you go for silent installation you don 't need to do the post config in workflow manager anymore, and mailer shall be ready to run)
for wf shipped with DB
1. follow offical installation note
2. it will ask for a apache home to be used as middle tier
3. run through all steps
4. find Wf manager and run the config through the interface.
5. test the mailer in wf manager
I would like someone correct if wrong because I have no experience to set up wf server shipped with DB, but for the one shipped with CMSDK I can answer you alot.

Kun

• Problem with the Workflow Notification Mailer

Hi Community,
Recently we have just installed the E-Business Suite release 12.0.4 from e-delivery.oracle.com for Linux x86-64 using the VISION Demo database, in order to see and test the release for a future upgrade of our Production environment.
The installation was succesful and we setting up the Workflow Notification Mailer with the data of our SMTP server in order to outbound notifications to that server.
Now, In order to continue testing that instance, we have just executed the scripts to stop de APPS tier and to start the APPS tier, and it seems that the workflow notification mailer can not establish network connection with the e-mail server (Exchange server) after starting the APPS tier.
The Linux server has defined in its hosts file the Exchange e-mail server, and from operating system, we can establish a ping connection.
Any help will be appreciated.
Luis.

Hi,
I had the same issue and I found that Oracle Workflow does not attach files. The solution is to create a table with blob, clob, ordsys, etc data types and reference to the file from a notification and a message.
I did an interface with java to read the document, and then put the link in the oracle workflow message. The link opened the file.
So, for any workflow development is recomended to use your own Entity-Relation Model, including the process number and the files attached to that process.

• Reg : To maintain subustution approver for all the workflow related mails

Hi
I what to know how to maintain a substution for some days for the following req.
As our CTO kyle whitehill is our present approver is going on a christmas & new year leave would like to Delegate his PO approval authority to R Unnikrishnan . new approver for some days AVP u2013 Network Commercial
So i want to configure that all the workflow related mail should go to the new person.
Pls help me on this,
Regards
Suresh.

Hi,
You can create substitution using the function module SAP_WAPI_SUBSTITUTE_MAINTAIN or using the transaction RMPS_SET_SUBSTITUTE.
Here you have to enter the username of the person for whom you want to maintain substitute, username of the substitute start date and end date of substitution.
This will do the job.
Note : Substitution allows only workitem sharing and not mail sharing.

• I'd like to put the instance name in the Workflow mailer subject line

Hi Folks, I'm sure this has been done many times before. Do I need to use Workflow Builder (I have never used it), or can templates be created manually? Anyone done it manually before? I'm using EBS 12.1.1
Thanks very much,
-Adam

Hi Adam,
I think there is some documentation in the Application Developer (sorry no time to go check) - you want to look for Workflow Standard Message Templates (System: Mailer).
Otherwise you can just overwrite (this is modification) the standard message templates - start Workflow Builder on desktop, open from database workflow "System: Mailer" and then you have access to the default message templates.
PS the "usual" way to distinguish between environments is through the "Send From" username/email address - which is a configuration item on the workflow notification mailer setup.

• Error Service Component Container for Java Mailer is not running

Hi,
I installed Oracle Workflow 2.6.3 (Standalone) in Oracle Database 10g Release 1.
Actually there was no problem during the installation.
I have done the Setting Up from step 1 to 8.
I'm going to do the step 9 (Implementing Notification Mailer).
The problem is the Workflow Agent Listener WFALSNRSVC is not running
and I cannot run it using the Oracle Workflow Manager.
In the Oracle Workflow Manager there was 4 rows which related to the Container : WFALSNRSVC
1. Workflow Deferred Agent Listener
2. Workflow Deferred Notification Agent Listener
3. Workflow Error Agent Listener
4. Workflow Inbound Notification Agent Listener
The status is : Stopped.
I cannot run any of them.
Although the Startup Mode is Automatic, but none of them is running.
When I tried to push the Go button to Actions: Start, it showed this message
An error has occured
The Service Component Container is not running.
And after I tried to configure the Workflow Notification Mailer using the wizard
I didn't receive any e-mail after I push the Test Send Mail button.
I read in another post in this forum.
It states that when going to the Workflow Configuration Assistant (WFCA)
we must give the right entry in the LDAP paramaters and Java Mailer parameters,
otherwise those WFALSNRSVC and WFMLRSVC would never run eventhough we enter them in a later time.
Actually I didn't provide the paramaters (both of them) since they are optional.
My questions are:
1. Is there another way to run those service (servlet)?
I really need the Java Notification Mailer to send email.
2. Should I uninstall and reinstall my Oracle Workflow and provide those paramaters?
Do I have to uninstall and reinstall the Oracle Workflow Middle Tier too?
3. Is it okay if I drop and cascade the OWF_MGR user (my Workflow Manager schema)
and then I use the Workflow Configuration Assistant again and choose Install option
to create the OWF_MGR schema?
3. Are the LDAP and OID required before we use the Java Notification Mailer?
Actually I didn't understand the use of LDAP and OID which required in the LDAP paramaters?
Any help would be grateful.
Thanks,
Buntoro

In the service components page click on any container, select stop all from the LOV and Go. Once all the containers Workflow Agent Listener Service,
Workflow Document Web Services Service and Workflow Mailer Service are Deactivated then StartAll. After all the containers are started then check the components status.
Still if they are running bounce the apache.

• Workflow Notification Mailer continues to fail with a STOPPED_ERROR component status

We are running the E-Business Suite version 12.1.3 (Standard) on Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-bit). Multi-Org enabled. We just applied over the weekend RUP 7 patch 18004477. We have several seeded and customized workflows running (HR, BENEFITS, GRC, AP, AR etc).
The Workflow Notification Mailer continues to stop in error with this message in fnd_svc_components:
STOPPED_ERROR - Maximum number of errors (10000) have been reached for this Service Component -> oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsc.ProcessorException: An unexpected RuntimeException or Throwable occurred -> java.lang.NullPointerException
It only runs for a few minutes before ending in error.
I attached the last Workflow Notification Mailer log entries begining around where the component exited with the error above. I suspect that one of the error messages above is the problem. I can send more of the log if necessary.
Due the error message above regarding the maximum number errors we have updated wf_notifications and wf_items table for any rows that are 'WFERROR' to CLOSED status and to a mail_status of SENT. In wf_items we set the end_date to the sysdate for the items where the item type = 'WFERROR'. Despite this we are still receiving this error with the Workflow Notification Mailer.
Does anyone have an idea what is causing the component to shut down with this message? I would greatly appreciate any help with this issue that we are having.
Thank you, Greg

• Gmail, Java Mail - SSL Mess

I've read many tutorials, as well as forums, and guides. Many are outdated or just didn't cover SSL at all. I think this SSL business with Gmail appears to be farely recent.
The most helpful guide I've found was here . The SSLNotes for the latest Java Mail.
Here's the code:
private void sendTxt(String[] call_info) {
Security.addProvider(new com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.Provider());
try {
MailSSLSocketFactory sf = new MailSSLSocketFactory();

props.setProperty("mail.transport.protocol", "smtps");
//props.setProperty("mail.host", "smtp.gmail.com");

Hi All
We are on R12.1.3.

• Any javadoc documentation available for Workflow Java API?

Does anyone know if there is a "proper" Javadoc generated set of documentation for the Workflow Java API. The supplied html/pdf documentation describing the Java API has lots of omissions (eg, the getItemAttributes method returns an instance of WFTwoDDataSource - but where is the WFTwoDDataSource documented and how should I use the methods in that class?) I've tried loading some of the undocumented class definitions into a class browser, but the class methods have unhelpful parameter names like 'param1', which doesn't help in understanding how some of the classes and their methods should be used. I've tried searching technet and metalink for more specific documentation without success. If anyone can point me at a more useful set of documentation for the class hierarchies and their methods, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hello,
I'm also starting with workflow 2.6 java api. Just wondering if you had any luck in getting the source for wftest sample program... In case you did, could you send it to me please.

• How to schedule restart of Workflow notification mailer?

We are facing this issue in all environments including production;
Inbound IMAP Notification emails are pending in the INBOX folder of the mail box. These moves to PROCESS folder only after restart of the 'WORKFLOW NOTIFICATION MAILER' every 3 to 4 hours.
I have raised an SR with Oracle support for a solution.
For this temporary workaround of restarting the Notificaiton mailer, I want to know how can I schedule the automatic restart of the 'WORKFLOW NOTIFICATION MAILER', Please advice.

• Need help with Workflow notification mailer setup

Hi all,
I have the following requirement from my client:
"IT has a project request from the Accounting Department to automate payments for Canadian vendors. One of the things that will need to happen on this project is setting up the Workflow Notification Mailer in AP so emails can be sent to vendors notifying them of payment. We only want to support Canadian vendors – payment processing for US vendors will continue to be handled as it is today."
Please let me know how this can be done as I have no knowledge of setting up workflow notification mailer for a particular item.
Thanks.

Lot more information in Oracle Applications System Admin guide. To process messages from only a given itemtype you will use Correlation ID parameter of the mailer. But there are lot of other things that you should consider for such a set up. You would be having a build up of messages in WF_NOTIFICATION_OUT queue that you may want to manually take care of cleaning up.

• Oracle Workflow Manager, Agent Listener, and Java Mailer problem

Hi,
I am not sure this topic to this forum, since this might be installation issue.
But I am hitting a big wall.
I had Windows 2000 SP4.
I have already installed Oracle Database 10gR1, Oracle Developer 10gR2, and Oracle Workflow 2.6.3 Standalone previously.
Including :
- Oracle Workflow Server 2.6.3
- Oracle Workflow Builder 2.6.3.5
- Apache HTTP Server 9.0.4
- Workflow Middle Tier
Anything seems to right, including the Notification Mailer and the Business Event.
And I had also made backup of them surely.
Now,
I'd like to change into Oracle Database 10gR2 because :
1. Some errors I found when I tried to call a Report from Oracle Form.
Unable to connect to Report Server ...
I thought Oracle Database 10gR1 is not suitable for Oracle Developer 10gR2.
2. And in the OWF 2.6.3 Workflow Home Page, there was no Logout button (which I found in OWF 2.6.4)
I removed my previous installation including Oracle Workflow.
After strugglineg in the installation of Oracle Database 10gR2, now I am facing another problem with Oracle Workflow.
I succesfully installed Oracle Workflow 2.6.4 Server and Oracle Workflow Manager (standalone version),
and the Oracle Workflow Middle Tier.
After I launch Oracle Workflow Configuration Assisstant, everthing seems to be normal.
I succed to open the Oracle Workflow Home Page (and found the Logout button there)
Next, I tried to navigate to the Oracle Workflow Manager.
1. I start the OC4J_Workflow_Management_Container --> initialized
2. OC4J_Workflow_Component_Container
The following error line appeared in the OC4J command prompt
06/05/26 10:31:40 LOG_ID_UNKNOWN : oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsc.Logger.Logger(String,
int) : Logging to System.out until necessary parameters are retrieved for Logger
to be properly started.
06/05/26 10:31:40 LOG_ID_UNKNOWN : oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsc.SvcComponentContainer.
initializeStateMachine() : BEGIN [default implementation]
06/05/26 10:31:40 LOG_ID_UNKNOWN : oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsc.SvcComponentContainer.
getNewWorkflowContext() : BEGIN
06/05/26 10:31:45 LOG_ID_UNKNOWN : oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsc.SvcComponentContainer.
loadGlobalParameters() : BEGIN
06/05/26 10:31:48 oracle.apps.fnd.wf.common.ContextFactoryException: Unable to g
et connection from data source because the following Exception occurred -> java.
sql.SQLException: ORA-28000: the account is locked
06/05/26 10:33:57 Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE 10g (9.0.4.1.0)
initialized
3. finally it initialized
Next I tried to go to Oracle Workflow Manager from related link of Enterprise Manager
It is said that the OWF_MGR is locked
(I surprised since I had UNLOCKED the OWF_MGR after the installation and succeed to login at the Workflow Home Page)
And the following error line appeared in the commaned prompt after that
06/05/26 10:35:03 OrionCMTConnection not closed, check your code!
06/05/26 10:35:03 Logical connection not closed, check your code!
06/05/26 10:35:03 (Use -Djdbc.connection.debug=true to find out where the leaked
connection was created)
4. I re-UNLOCK the OWF_MGR and login to Oracle Workflow Manager
I noticed that the Agent Listener and Notification Service is Unavailable
(In OWF 2.6.3, The Agent Listener was started and Notification Service was waiting to be configured)
I tried to start one of the Agent Listener, but the following error appeared
ERROR: The Service Component Container is not running
Well, I had the same problem when installing the OWF 2.6.3
I tried to uninstall (remove) and re-install it like I had done before in OWF 2.6.3
(based on someone's post in Oracle's forum)
But this time, the re-installation won't fix this problem. (It was succeed in the OWF 2.6.3)
Everytime I start the OC4J, using wfmgrstart.bat and wfsvcstart.bat
the OWF_MGR is re-LOCKED(TIME) automatically.
And the servlet (WFALSNRSVC and WFMLRSVC) are not running.
I am worry, since I cannot use the Notification Mailer if this problem had not fixed yet.
(In OWF 2.6.3, the mailer was not available until those servlet is Started)
Sorry for the long post.
Any help would be grateful.
Many thanks,
Buntoro

Hi,
Finally, I have found the solution.
Step :
1. Start all of the Oracle Service, except for the OC4J
If you have already started OC4J, then stop them
Unlocked the <wf_manager_user>
2. Search in your Oracle Home : data-sources.xml
There should be two files,
one is in the ...\OC4J_Workflow_Component_Container\application-deployments\WFALSNRSVCApp
the other is in ...\OC4J_Workflow_Component_Container\application-deployments\WFMLRSVCApp
3. Make sure, you create back up of them.
4. Replace the following line
password="->pwForOwfMgr"
with
password="<your_wf_manager_password>",
should be look like this
password="a"
5. Now start the OC4J using wfmgrstart.bat and wfsvcstart.bat
6. Next, login to the Oracle Workflow Manager
This worked for me.
Hope this will help someone who has the same problem.
