Kin Twom problem

Hi. I've had a Kin Twom for a little over 2 months now and it is starting to get really glitchy and turn off whenever it wants. When I turn it on, 60% of the time, right when i slide it up to use it it just turns off. I can not see spending extra money for another phone since the warranty is up on this one. Please let me know some alternatives are for I could not see being able to put up with this phone for two years.
I am very disappointed with this phone's malfunctions.

llamaboy88, I know dealing with a device that reboots is very frustrating. At this time, we do not have a permanent fix for the power cycling but a factory reset may resolve this issue temporarily. The Factory Reset process will set the preference settings to factory default and all user data and contacts will be erased. I will list the steps below and if you continue to have this issue, we may need to perform further trouble-shooting because this is an isolated issue and have not been reported as a known issue.
From the Home screen, select Settings.
Select About Your Phone.
Select erase phone data.
Select ok.

  • Kin TwoM problems. Is anyone else experiencing this??

I got my KIN as a replacement for the Samsung Reality in February and it was a great replacement. Now after a few months of owning the device, problems are starting to appear.
When I recieve a call and answer it it will still keep vibrating and not allow me to talk to the person.
Lock the phone, then try to unlock the phone and the phone freezes and only solution is taking the battery out.
    Resetting.
Browser always cannot find the page to load, without refreshing the page fifty(exxageration) times.
I will be making a call to Verizon tonight, to see if there is a software update coming, or if they are just going to plain and simple send me out a replacement.
Oh and I've already erased the phone data once. And, I clear the internet history, cookies, cache. all the time.
    SOLUTIONS PLEASE

I just got off the phone with a Rep with Verizon Wireless, she gave me some inspiring news.
I told her my concerns about what needed to be done with the software of the device
    Backup Assisstant
    Virtual QWERTY.
Those were my biggest concerns, so I told her and she actually sent out a request to SHARP and MICROSOFT.
I'm telling you guys that you NEED to do this, the more and more people to have these requests, the better chance we'll have of seeing a software update for these phones.

  • Re: Kin Twom problem when open?

I have the same problem, but i was advised by a verizon to go amazon and buy a no contract phone. can i still get a replacement phone? Certainly it is not my fault the KinTWOm does not work. when i slide the keyboard, the screen goes black.

    Hi jackwilson:
It sure is hard to operate a device if you can't see the screen! If your issue is still going on, the only thing you can really try is to remove the battery. If that doesn't work, I recommend contacting the warranty center at 866-406-5154. We can look at replacement options for your handset given that there's no physical or liquid damage.  Feel free to send me a DM if that works better for you as well. I have followed you to make this possible.
Let us know the outcome of your situation.

  • Problem setting up Gmail on KIN TWOm

Very happy with my KIN TWOm - got my Zune setup, go to set up my Hotmail, perfect...but they I try to set up Gmail and it says "Not Set Up - There was a problem setting up your account.  Try again later".  When I call Verizon they tell me, "You must be typing in the wrong email or the wrong password."  It's been the same email for the last 5 years and I check it everyday - I think I've got it down.  When I kept complaining, they sent me to ADVANCED TECH SUPPORT were I was told to pull the battery out and restart the phone...when that did nothing I was told to change my Gmail password.  I wasn't surprised when that didn't work.  After all this I was told I should contact Gmail because it sounds like a problem on their end.  Here's the issue; they didn't make the phone, why would they know how to help?  The KIN website is no more - no help to be found with Sharp or Microsoft, so I guess this is my last chance - Anyone had the same issue, if so how can I fix it?

You should not need to enable IMAP/POP to use your gmail account w/ the Kin. I personally use gmail, so it is the only email service i can verify works fine with the Kin email app. First, make sure you have an internet connection. That can be wifi, or the 3g network (i would suggest wifi; block 3G is my advice). Once you are sure you have a connection (try connecting to a few pages in the browser; don't rely on the little 3G icon), click on the email app icon, then click the Gmail icon. It will ask for 3 options: a name (i'm not sure if this has to match your email account's name, character for character; but i know mine does, so you might as well enter it as the same name as the one under your gmail account just in case),  the email address (including @gmail.com), and your password, which is case-sensitive, has to include all the symbols/numbers, etc.
It should be as easy as that. The only problem i can see occurring is if your phone isn't actually connected to a wifi connection and has no connection to the internet, or if it does matter that the name you enter has to match the email account's name, but i don't understand why it would have to match, but then again it wouldn't be the first time Microsoft did something unexplainably weird.

  • Kin Twom Screen problem. What am i suppose to do now?

This is my 3rd Kin twom Phone
(1st - replaced for some random software issue - went back to Previous kin for some reason..)
(2nd - Certified Pre Owned - I Thought you guys check for Cosmetic problems? there was literally a part that came almost off on the phone. really)
(3rd - slide was loosen too much compare to others, dusty camera,  & one of the screw bolts were missing - Representative said "I can't give you another replacement for this is already my 3rd phone(their new replacement policy or something? where is it written...?) and says they will give me an option of buying Extended warranty - did first, then rejected for they were literally asking me to PAY MORE FOR THEIR OWN MISTAKE)
Whats more ironic? This happened within 2 months of my purchase(as i remember) and store representative never questioned when they saw me waking into the store like 5 times - barely one or two customers were there when i went there.
Now, because Verizon store near me rejected the replacement(when two of replacement was already bad when i received it), i just sucked it up and used it, hoping i don't ever have to go back to the store to talk to the representative - that has no such respects to customers.
Then few days ago, screen flickering begin, then within two days, phone died or something. Screen doesn't turn on, and it seems like phone just died because i cant sync with the Zune software anymore - even though phone is on(back light on keyboard is on when phone is open)
What am i suppose to do now? go to that store representative and get rejected again?
or even though they might replace it, get like a random Certified pre Destroyed phone?
I wish Verizon will become customer friendly like as how they used to be 5 years ago. its just getting worse and worse every day.

    JH_Park,
    Good afternoon!
I definitely understand any disappoint you may be feeling from this situation. Verizon Wireless do not have any such policy regarding a limit of replacements we issue, the warranty is not ours but rather the manufacturer and I apologize for any confusion. I would like to review your account and the concerns you are having with this device. Please send me a direct message for further assistance.
    Thank you!

  • KIN TwoM  PIN problem......

so after i found out people had been snooping in my phone, i set a pin. five minutes later i fogot it (i do remember the numbers are 8 6 4 2 but i dont know what order) i hear this can be fixed? and after trying 9 different pins, my phone showed the message about data being erased with one more wrong try.........help? sorry, i feel very stupid

    Hello,
I wanted to ask if you were able to get your phone unlocked without erasing the data? I am hoping that you were able to keep all of your information in the device.
I researched the KIN TwoM and I see that after 10 incorrect attempts to enter the PIN, the data is erased and is not retrievable. I found the below in the manual for the device.
"After eight incorrect attempts at typing your PIN, you’ll be prompted to type a specific number to continue trying. If you type an incorrect PIN a total of ten times, the data on your phone will be erased (but you will be warned after the ninth attempt)."
Please post back and let us know what happened.
    Thank you!

  • Problems with KIN TWOm: NEED HELP!

I am a new owner of a KIN TWOm. Originally i was a owner of a KIN ONEm. Now with my new KIN i have tried to create a KIN account and it comes up with a error saying that it can not connect to windows live right now. And then it goes to the social networking page. But since its not all set up its useless and just causes me to click on the links while i try to slide to my favorites and home. And every time i turn on my phone the sign in for the KIN account comes up but it doesn't work. It does not allow me to do any of the social networking options since i am not synced so i don't get any of the Feeds that i was really looking forward to in this phone. It also does not let me connect to my email that i was perfectly able to connect to on my KIN ONEm. And it also wont let me sync any contacts from my social networking sites. All the social networking capabilities that i was really looking forward to and that where the main objective of the phone no longer work. Why is this? And is there any way to fix this? If not, would there be any way to get rid of the middle screen that would show all the Feeds, and the sign in menu that pops up every time i restart my phone? Its still there but has no purpose. It just takes up space and frustrates me. I'd like to further my experience with the KIN TWOm instead of being in the dark. Thank you for your help.

Hello alexz97,  I want you to be able to use the full capabilities of your phone! Are you trying to add the same Windows Live account that your had on the KIN ONEm or starting a brand new one?  Were you prompted to setup Wi-Fi before starting the sign in process?  Does it show a network connection?  I look forward to hearing from you so we can work to get you up and running!
    Thank You,

  • Kin Twom settings icon

I'm having a hard time moving around my settings icon on my Kin Twom's app page...
I move the icon to where I want it to be (left, right, up, down, wherever) then when I restart my phone, the icon moves right back to where it was when I first got my phone. Anyone else having the same problem? I want to move it so that it will be on the very last row on the right side of the app page, but it just won't stay put!!

Verizon is in general just giving ill-advise to the Kin phones in general..many of their reps don't know the specifics to the phones. Sorry for the inconvenience. To be honest, i can't think of what could be causing it. I don't have that problem, and from what i've read, no one else here does either. It could simply be a defective device and you should file for a warranty replacement. And unlike how it should be, just remember that you probably will know more than the representative you talk with, just know that and be patient with Verizon. If you don't, you'll only get frustrated with them from their lack of cooperation and knowledge.

  • Kin Twom Charging question

I have been using Kin Twom for about a week now and like it. But been having some issues with charging. Problem is it doesn't indicate when the charge is full. Anyone else have this problem? How long have people been charging the phone for full battery? and is there any way to know if it is fully charged?

There are two ways that I have found.
When the phone is plugged in and unlocked, tap the clock at the bottom right to bring up a menu which has your signal data, date and time, ringer volume, and battery status. The green amount in the battery icon is the amount the phone has charged. When the battery is totally green, it is fully charged.
When the phone is off and plugged in, the screen will show a battery with a red amount indicating the charge of the battery, along with a number which indicates the percentage charged.

  • Kin twom battery display

my kin twom battery sometimes show low battery, but after a while, it comes back some level, without even charging. Is that normal?

Yes, and no. To say that your battery has problems, it possibly could, but it could also be completely fine. Battery life indicators themselves aren't the most accurate things, but there are a few things that you could do to help them. Try cycling your battery a few times; that means fully charging, and then fully discharging it. Note, that this does not mean overcharging, and by fully discharging, i mean by going till it gives the low  battery warning, or 10% left.
Here's a quick article regarding rechargeable batteries:
    http://www.puremobile.com/cell-phone-batteries.asp
One more article regarding batteries, specifically the section 'prolong your battery life'
    http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Your-Cell-Phone-Battery-Last-Longer
Just a heads, Lithium batteries and nickel batteries behave in very different ways; so don't take all this advice for all batteries, make sure you know what kind of rechargeable battery you are dealing with. Most newer cell phones, including the kin, have lithium-ion batteries (whereas, most rechargeable AA/AAA batteries are Ni-MH). They're not going to be directly 'damaged' by not fully discharging and fully charging (in fact, read the article below, you will actually see they benefit from not fully discharging), but that doesn't go to say that the indicator might be a little off (as in your case). Theoretically, if you cycle it, it will be able to 'zero' out the indicator. On the 2nd link i provided, you will read that it says lithium-ion batteries don't require cycling of the battery, and that is true in that it doesn't damage the chemicals to not completely cycle them. However, i probably just do it out of habit from time to time. And regarding the indicator effect, that is more aimed towards nickel-based batteries but it still could be prevalent in lithium-ion batteries.
You will also notice in the 2nd article that it says not to completely discharge a lithium battery, and that is true. However, with the Kin batteries, they automatically will shut off and just not turn on when their battery is below set level, my guess is ~8%, so that is a fail-safe against significant damage to the battery. I would still recommend charging them no lower than the region where it has the low battery indicator (the diagonal-lined low battery) and not use the phone much longer after it has the critical battery warning (where the indicator is completely empty); mainly, don't make it a habit of going down there on a consistent basis. from my experience, the phone just shuts off very soon after you get the pop-up of 10% battery left, and that is a good thing in terms of preserving the battery life.
One last more in-depth article regarding the batteries:
    http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
The biggest thing to get out of this one:
"Similar to a mechanical device that wears out faster with heavy use, so also does the depth of discharge (DoD) determine the cycle count. The smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid frequent full discharges and charge more often between uses. If full discharges cannot be avoided, try utilizing a larger battery. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery."
So yes, the periodic full discharge could help your battery gauge re-zero/calibrate itself. Naturally, you aren't going to charge your phone at the exact same level, every single time; but say you do, just by dumb luck, then the indicator could slowly begin to think that was the capacity of hte battery, which it isn't. In your case, it sounds like the indicator is indeed off, so give it a try, only one or 2 cycles should do it.
Regarding battery life, in this article, there is a chart of experiments regarding the depth of discharge and charge cycles before the battery wears. Do the math if you want (simply multiply the percentage by the # cycles to get the equivalent time of 'full cycles' of battery life), but it comes out that completely cycling the battery consistently has a lower battery life, but at the same time, charging the battery when it is nearly full (10% discharged) continually actually has just as poor of performance. The optimal battery life from their experiments is somewhere in between 25% and 50%; but that is hard to tell if they are talking about 'time' cycle, or by total capacitance of the battery left. Batteries discharge logarithmically (in simpler terms, not in a straight line).
And one of the simplest solutions, at times, it could simply be that your phone isn't recognizing it correctly, so just turn off the phone, pull the battery, and put it back in. I don't have any solid 'evidence' as to if this helps or not, but it sure doesn't hurt and lots of times the simple reset does wonders.
I'm just giving you the data, and my opinion and what i do. There comes a point of balancing a good battery and convenience. I know i don't base my life around when i need to charge my phone; sometimes charge it when it goes down to the low battery indicator, others i charge after a day or 2, when it is still around half full. Thinking about it, i really don't care too much if my battery lasts as long as it did when i got it new, or if it has some wear and a reduced capacity, as long as it lasts ~2 days. I like charging at night, so that is when i do it. If you spend so much effort trying to preserve your battery life by charging it at 50% every single time, you might as well pretend your battery only has 50% capacity, cause you never use it past that point. I'll take the little bit of cycle wear that comes along with charging it by convenience; worst case, i am so dissatisfied with my battery i have to buy a new one for $30. But you look at the charts from the 3rd link, and it only varies from ~90% capacity to ~70%. I can live with that. That gets me through my 2 days, and chances are in 2 years, i'll be getting a new free phone to replace this one.
Sorry for the super long post, but the answer to your question is located within the first paragraph. The rest is just extra information about the batteries.

  • Contacts saved on the KIN TWOm

I just spent a few hours keying in all my contacts from my old phone.
Now I'd like to know if there's a way to save or export them to my computer.  If this phone needs to be replaced under warranty and I get another KIN TWOm I sure don't want to have to repeat this tedious process again.
Is there a way to export my contacts that are on my KIN TWOm and import them if needed?
    Thanks

I am not sure if it would be possible. You probably already know, that backup assist syncs the backup to an online database, that you can access through My Verizon. I am not sure if there is a 'sync with computer' option from the website, if it could grab your outlook, gmail contacts, etc. Assuming it could: then it would be similar to treat the backup assist and your computer as the same source. Now, from there, like stated, you can get contacts from backup assist to the phone (it requires a trip to the store): i'm not sure if they have to physically hook up a separate phone, to the kin phone, to do so. But if they do, then it would be about as simple as loading the backup assist contacts to a separate phone, and then hooking up that separate phone to the Kin. I don't know if you own the phone, or if you are currently shopping, but the phone does have a hidden programming menu (accessed by dialing ##77647266488, access code is 000000; note that you have to dial this from the 'phone app', you can't call it from a saved contact, etc because it isn't actually dialing a number, it is just running a process that goes to the programming menu). In that menu, there is a contacts menu, and in there, an import contacts, and export contacts.
    screenshots of the programming menu:
The problem: no one knows where the phone imports from, or where the phone exports from. When you press export, it will say 'contacts successfully exported!'. My guess is, it creates some 'standard' file type containing your contacts, and when you go in-stores, the machine that they use accesses the actual memory of the phone, and in whatever folder it stores it in, they can just pull it from there, or import a file into the phone in the same manner. I do know, that a while back, i was playing around in this menu and accidentally pushed 'import contacts', and then i had duplicates of every contact, which was a pain to go through and delete. So it seems likely that they have that file type i mentioned ont he phone, and depending if you push import or export, it'll either create the file, or import that file type into the phone contacts list (maybe..could it be as simple as connecting the phone to the computer via usb while pushing this button..?? but i doubt it, its never that easy with microsoft; maybe you or someone else can try it though, just in case ).
I don't know how much computer knowledge you have, but I read another thread saying they were trying to use a workaround, with a program called 'Python' (also another method in-progress called 'bitpim') to access and edit the phone, both its code, and just as a file on the computer (think, mass storage device-type access). I also read somewhere that someone was able to open the phone's contents ont he computer, but the problem was he couldn't open individual files like they were locked, or read-only. But I bet, if you can open it up on a computer, then you can pull the file out, or copy one in, and then it would make transferring contacts possible at home on any PC. But, if you're like me and either/both don't have the knowledge or the time to figure this out, then you have to live with no exporting contacts. If you do have this computer knowledge though, go ahead and try it out.
With one exception, i bet in-stores, they are able to access the phone's files and pull out that export file, so maybe they would be able to transfer that to My Verizon, or another phone/database to back-up. Just to warn you though, Verizon reps are not computer science majors, so they likely wouldn't be able to figure this out (if they haven't already, that is), and from my experience, most reps don't even know that this phone was re-launched.
I'll just ask though, if you do figure this out, please share Many, many of us would like to know.
Edit: Here is a link to the microsoft forums that has an extensive, technical discussion about reading the phone as a usb device, editing the phones and trying to get contact importing/exporting to work, etc. Within this thread, 3 other threads working ont he same thing are also linked.

  • Shipping, Kin Twom Phone....

i ordered a KIN TWOm last thursday at about 4: 45pm and i had the overnight shipping thing but i still haven't gotten my phone yet. it's been a whole week and i still haven't gotten my email. is anyone else having this problem??

the verizon person told me that they already shipped the phone and i can't cancel it because the phone is with fedex. When i checked my status on fedex it says "initiated" The person told me t just means that the phone is with verizon but they can't do anything because of all the snow but there are so many cars on the roads and kids are going to school so i don't see the problem why they can't send the phone

  • Kin twom Wi-fi not working... really frustrated

I have a WPA 2 network however, when I try to connect to my wifi it says " can't connect to the NetPro network right now. try again later" I have not had the oppurtunity to try this for any other networks. However, I did try a random password for my neighbors, and instead of a message coming up as password invalid or something like that I got the same message. How do I connect to my wi-fi?

    Just a thought:
I am a new KIN TWOm owner (not an expert) so I frequent this site to learn about my new phone:
I have an Airport Extreme 802.11g.  I am currently using a WPA2 locked network.  I had no problem signing in with the the KIN TWOm.  My router is pretty old.  I do not have the newer 802.11n one.
I just looked in the manual under wifi and it does not specify compatible routers but I do recall reading that the newer 802.11n is not supported.  This was on a forum and not in the manual.  (Oops!  It is in this thread!)
I'm glad I have not upgraded my router in years because mine seems to be working with my KIN TWOm.
So, is it the phone or the router?  I don't know?
I will say that I have to remember to turn wifi off of a device (KIN TWOm, iPod Touch, MacBook etc ...) I am taking with me before I leave the house because while I'm gone the entire network shuts down.  If I turn wifi off in the device I am carrying out of range then the home network keeps working.  If I forget to turn it off of the device I am traveling with, I have to restart the network by physically unplugging it, count to 10 slowly, plug it back in, then everything just starts working again without having to retype the password.  It doesn't work if I just reset it from the ethernet device.  Leaving the house with a device that has wifi on connected to the home network knocks out everything connected to the network, iPod Touch, computers, etc ...  Once I unplug & replug the network in, everything just works again within about a minute or so.
I figured that out the hard way with my iPod Touch.  My family kept complaining that the network was down and I noticed the pattern of whenever I leave the house with my iPod on wifi the network goes down.  It's the same with my KIN TWOm and my MacBook.  I don't know if it has to do with firewall settings or network settings or what?  I just make it a habit to turn off wifi on the device I am carrying with me before leaving the house.  I can still turn it back on once I am out to access public wifi.  Then it still works for the rest of the family while I'm gone.  When I return home I have no problem reconnecting to my home network.
I hope this is clear enough.  It's hard to explain in writing.

  • Has anyone else honestly had GOOD luck with the Kin TwoM?

I recently purchased a Refurb Kin TwoM off ebay...I havent yet activated it but I did want to pass this along to others (as I was curious about) that I WAS able to take my old Samsung Intensity to a VZW Store and they transferred all my contacts within about 5 minutes! I wanted to make sure that would work first before anything!  Also, I tested out the wifi @ home and Mcdonalds and it connected just fine!..its like a Wifi-Enable Mp3 player right now and it only cost me $40, so hopefully once i fully activate it the actual PHONE will work!  There are a few quirks Ive noticed like others have pointed out..such as the screen lock doesnt actually lock the volume controls on the side....and the browser is awesome for a basic phone but isnt quite as smooth or 'fluid' for webpages like our Ipod Touch is...(but you really shouldnt compare it to any smart' devices that like) Im not sure if its true for all Kin's but I havent been able to play videos offline like Youtube? anyone else have this issue? I also wish with there were some simple Apps like FB / Twitter/ Maps available but I suppose I cant expect too much!

I know I'm tempting fate by posting this, but yes, I've been quite happy with my KIN TWOm.
I got mine originally in June, 2011. A couple of weeks later, it dropped from the holster on a dirt path and must have hit a pebble or something, because a small section of the screen stopped working. VZW sent me a "Certified" replacement (cost me $99 because of the apparent physical damage), and it has been performing fine for the past 13 months.
Sure, there are some software quirks (It's Microsoft, remember?) but the benefits clearly outweigh those.  Probably the thing I miss most is the lack of any voice recording/command function.  But I love that it has WiFi, and the nice camera and 8GB memory let me take over 400 pictures when my normal camera was stolen on the second day of a trip to Europe.  The Zune music player is nice as well, and the e-mail client, while limited in function, is much nicer than the one on my previous phone.
As for the actual phone functions, I text more than I talk, and the physical keyboard is very nice for that. As for voice calls, I do that pretty seldom, but have not had any problem with dropped calls, volume, etc.
OK, the big elephant in the room is the "black screen" that seems to affect so many people. It's happened to me a few times as well. I think my background as a computer guy has helped me deal with this.  When this has happened to me, it's always been when the device was "sleeping", and just didn't want to wake up. Like maybe it wasn't recognizing the interrupt from the "back" button. In those cases, I've found that holding the button down a little longer, opening the keyboard, or briefly pressing the power button will get its attention. Or sometimes I just need to let the device rest for a minute or two and it manages to untie itself.  There have just been a very few times when I've had to do a cold boot (remove/replace the battery).
You also need to be careful as to how you put the device in your pocket or belt holster. Make sure that you don't position it in a way that the power button can be accidentally pressed when you sit down. There have been a few times when I take the phone out of my pocket and the little power off confirmation box is displayed. If that happens, be careful not to touch "OK" -- unless you want to power off.
Anyway, maybe mine is living on borrowed time, but overall I've been very happy with it so far.
I know there are others who have not had such a good experience, but this thread asked for people who were happy with their KINs, and I am.

  • My KIN TWOm saved my vacation

Well, from reading this forum, I guess I have the only KIN TWOm that hasn't self destructed yet.  Not only that, but it saved my recent vacation!  So I thought I'd share a happy KIN story.
We recently went to Europe for two weeks. I knew the KIN wouldn't work there (GMS vs CDMA), but I took it anyway for the music player on the long flight, and just to see if I could use the WiFi to check e-mail and sports scores from any cafes or hotels that happened to have WiFi.  That worked!  Only problem was that Google is apparently smart enough to check your IP address, so when I accessed from Mykonos, it sent me back the page in Greek!
Anyway, my regular camera was stolen the second day of our  trip -- in the Vatican, ironically.  So the only way to record the memories was with the camera in the KIN.  For the next 13 days, I took over 450 pictures with the KIN.  They were reasonably sharp for a tiny cellphone lens, and the color was great.  Even with all those pictures in memory, there was still over 6GB free.  (I was taking pictures at 1600x1200 resolution.) When I got home, I easily transferred them all to my computer (using the same ZUNE software that doesn't seem to work for anyone else).
One of my favorite features turned out to be the double tap that toggles back and forth between wide angle and 2X -- which would be about "normal" for a 35mm camera.  Exposure was pretty good -- except it didn't handle strong backlight situations very well. The battery held up quite well -- possibly because I had it in airplane mode most of the time since I couldn't use it as a phone over there anyway.  I also habitually turn the screen off between uses.
Bottom line...given this is a cellphone, not a camera, the results were surprisingly good and I'm REALLY glad I had it with me.

    Hello RTFM!
I am so glad you enjoyed your trip to Europe and glad you were able to capture those memorable moments with your KIN TWOm!
Thank you for posting such a great story regarding your experience with your device.  I, too, recently returned from an overseas trip and my mobile phone was my camera.  I was able to capture great pictures for my friends and family see as well.  It is unfortunate your camera was stolen, however, the KIN stepped right in and allowed you to still capture those memorable moments.
    Again, thank you for posting!
