[kinda solved] Emacs Sending wrong keystrokes in terminal

So I installed my editor of choice, Emacs, yesterday. I normally start Emacs with the -nw switch, because most of the time I like using it inside of the terminal window. When I do this the backspace key doesn't backspace at all, instead it sends <C-h> and takes me to the help screen (very annoying). BUT, it doesn't do this when I load the graphical emacs, and my backspace key works fine.

I had a similar problem with xterm. What I had to do was configure xterm such that backspace didn't send C-h so it wouldn't interfere with Emacs while still being able to delete to the left. I forget exactly how I did it, but it's a Xresources/Xdefaults solution.

Aluminium keyboard sending repeat keystrokes/not recognised during startup

hi everyone, my first post here,
i recent purchased an additional slimline alu-keyboard for my imac to customise as an editing keyboard for logic pro. only problem is i appear to be having issues with it. recently it has been sending repeat keystrokes in os x. it's not one of the letter keys because no text is typed onscreen. the other issue is that during startup none of the boot-up keys are recognised (ie. reset pram combination/bootup menu) with leads me to belive something is very wrong.
i have already tried reseting the pram - although i had to use my other keyboard to do this as the new one isn't recognised. i also tried reseting the smc but it seems certain that there is an issue with the keyboard itself
the keyboard is still well within warranty and i have my receipt but i'm concerned about the fact that it has been customised with a editing layout set and might not be replaced
hope someone can suggest something!

Open a command window and send some keystroke to the opened command window

Hi All,
I am trying to open command prompt and send some key stroke to that command prompt. Here I am using Robot to send keystroke. But the problem is, the keystrokes are not sent to the prompt. I guess I need to activate progamitically the command prompt to accept the keystrokes . Please find the code below ( as I did).

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Old problem kinda solved but now I got a CRC problem, begging for help.

However now I have a new problem. I solved my other problem by moving the memories from the 2 green slots on the mainboard to 1 green and 1 purple. I started the computer and managed to ged rid of the bluescreen and the freezes but not without the cost of a new problem.
My new problem is that I get alot of CRC errors now when installing biggers things ( Like most games for example). Before I switched one of the memory sticks to purple I didnt seem to have these problems since I managed to install a few games ( Painkiller, warcraft 3 FT, battlefield 2 for example) but now with the sticks in green and purple Im having problems installing most games ( Got crc error on painkiller expansion, farcry, cold fear for example. however I got empire earth 2 to get installed).
Ive hard this problem could be cause of an faulty hard disk but Ive used both of the ones I have installed right now in my old computer and they worked perfectly there.
Anyone got any suggestion on what the problem can be?
I would get extremely happy if someone could help me fix this problem.

What hard drive do you have? Can you put these specifics in your sig. Anyway, when games freeze after 20 minutes its either not enough juice from the power supply...(I have a tagan but its a 480w u22 with 12v@30a) OR, its high temps. What are your temps?
Second, do you have "matched pair" of ram or did you buy them separately.
EDIT: What are your drivers for the video card too, are you using the latest ones from nvidia?

TR, you will miss the benefit of dual channel, I made this same mistake but it is talked about greatly on this forum. If you have matched pairs, then either slots 1&2 or 3&4 are the best combinations for dual channel. Just my 2 cents.

I dont get any error's on my iphone that the smtp password is wrong or the server is down etc. And on exchange i can see that the mail has been send.
This indicates the mail was successfully sent by the SMTP server. If a message cannot be sent for whatever the reason, it will remain in the Outbox mailbox usually with an error message provided. A message moved to the account's Sent mailbox indicates the message was successfully sent by the SMTP server.
A successfully sent message does not guarantee the message will be accepted by the recipient's incoming mail server. Usually when a message is not accepted by the recipient's incoming mail server, a return email error message from the server is usually provided - but not always. Not with the high level of spam being circulated by low-life spammers.
Ask a recipient that is not receiving your messages sent by the iPhone's Mail client to check with their email account provider. You should be able to provide the recipient the long message headers for a sent message that was not received by the recipient.

Wireless Keyboard sends wrong data/gibberish to Mac

My wireless keyboard began sending random commands to my computer. Think- typing one character and three appear in a screen field; sends commands (keystrokes) to fields; and, starts activating other systems features. What I have done: replaced the batteries; deleted bluetooth keyboard and successfully re-synced three times - resulting in the same problem. No keys are stuck, not liquid has been in contact with the keyboard, etc. Apple has replaced one keyboard already due to the same situation. Hi, first I would replace the k/b batteries. 2nd I would go the SMC route. 3rd I would delete the k/b from your BT set up, then do a clean setup. Check to see if there are any pertinent Updates & Repair Permissions. After that you could try a USB k/b if that works I would suspect your BT k/b...L

[Kinda solved] "Oh no! Something has gone wrong." with gnome-fallback

After some upgrades today, I got with an unusable gnome. On every startx it failed with the window "Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occured and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again." (forcing you to close the session, just to reappear on restart)
After ~6 hours on this, and downgrading several packages to no avail, I discovered that the file /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome-fallback.session had been removed.
As I use gnome-fallback, the dconf key “org.gnome.desktop.session” contains “gnome-fallback”, and that apparently requires such file to exist
If you need to change the key with command-line:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.session session-name gnome-fallback
I finally got a working system by copying /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome.session to /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome-fallback.session and changing -use a text editor- its line "RequiredComponents=gnome-shell;gnome-settings-daemon;" to "RequiredComponents=metacity;gnome-settings-daemon;gnome-panel"
I hope this serves others to fix this issue.
I still miss the upper applet bar (although perhaps due to uninstalling then reinstalling gnome-panel), and key shortcuts (such as Alt-tab) are not working, but most functionality is there.
If you end up at a desktop with no menus, a way to work is to make in the desktop a symlink to /usr/bin/gnome-terminal.

I apologize for my post above....it's misleading. The bug in question is regarding a similar failure with gnome, but involving the standard session, not fallback. The fallback issue may be one of deprecation, I've read that gnome was no longer supporting it as software rendering was considered 'good enough'.
So if you are having the issue described in the OP you may want to file a separate bug. I posted my bug here as a result of a quick skim of the post and replies to it. After re-reading it, I see they are separate issues.

(solved ... kind of) What's wrong with eee 1000h? (suspend2ram)

I have an eee 1000h and have Archlinux running. I played around with it so maybe it's an old configuration problem...
Now I use acpi-eee-generic from AUR to use all the hotkeys which works fine.
Suspend to Disk also works flawlessly, my problem lies in suspend to ram.
With Kernel 2.6.28 everything worked.
With Kernel 2.6.29 in the beginning int worked too, but later after some updates it stopped working. With "stopped working" I mean it suspends well, power led switches to blinking. When trying to wake it, the power led changes to constant light, but that's everything that happens. Screen remains black, no response to keyboard and sysrq keys (they are enabled).
After an update to 2.6.30 it suddenly worked again.
After a recent update it stopped working again.
I have no idea what the problem is and what log files to look at... The pm-suspend log does not show something that shouldn't be there.
Someone here in the forums suggested s2ram from uswsusp but it doesn't wake up either with this (I had to use s2ram --force, because it didn't know the eee 1000h).
Anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone have a suggestion what to do about it?

2.6.31 now. It's getting worse. It goes to sleep well but then it refuses to do anything - Pressing keys does not do anything and even pressing the power button 4+ seconds does not give any reaction - the power led and the led on the power button keep flashing like in standby mode.
I still don't know wether this is only a problem for me or wether other arch users experience the same... nothing in the bugtracker, nothing in the forums...?
edit: I just tested:
With linux mint on an usb stick and kernel 2.6.30 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30.3 suspend2ram works without problems.
edit2: Wait... I tested it while the A/C adapter was attached... actually in Arch it does also work when the A/C adapter is attached. My battery is almost empty so this was maybe the reason it would not wake up (it does refuse to power on with a nearly empty battery, too)

[kinda solved] terminal colors on ssh connection

Using ssh on a headless server and I get orange (?) instead of black color , so some ncurses interface are really messed up.
My default $TERM seems to be xterm-color , someone has a more sane configuration for this cases ?

Oh, that would be great! ...seems like ssh access is a pretty basic and useful function. Like alot of users, I naturally want to learn more about iptables, but the learning curve is probably fairly steep...a shortcut woul be nice in the meantime. Thanks!

I've tried M-x emacs-w3m, M-x w3m and M-x w3m-emacs. How do I run it?

Yeah I figured that out when I got back home. It was my own fault for running emacs from Run Program in xfce instead of from the Terminal.
However, I've installed that package along with the 75dpi one and it still doesn't work. I even ran fc-cache again just to be sure. Weird.
The error is "Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-courier-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*" to type FontStruct" So perhaps it's a fontconfig problem. Both fontconfig and freetype2 as up-to-date. Hmm.
[EDIT] I restared X and everything worked. Thanks. I've updated the wiki with the information. I'll send a diff to the maintainer at some point; the PKGBUILD should really tell the user that he/she needs to install these fonts if using X windows

STPPOD triggered sending wrong material from SAP to SNC

Our process behave in this way when we receive a goods into our R/3, Proof of Delivery sent to SNC to update them that we have receipt the goods. And our system has setup in a way that only certain material and vendor are require to send GR feedback to SNC. For some reason, our system will send IDOC of every inbound delivery (include all kinds of materials and vendors) to SNC whenever an inbound doc is created. This cause wrong update of Proof of delivery to SNC of un-related inbound document (i.e. unrelated vendor/Material).
I am wondering if the error cuased by the current setup of inbound delivery output type table in MN24 in which we only put in Delivery Type ==> "EL", Funct ==>"VN", Partner ==> empty , Medium = A, Date/Time = 4, "Language = EN? This cause all inbound doc with EL will have OPOD get triggered?
Or is it my current WE20 setup?

If you use VL31N/VL32N to send GR which means it will triggered STPPOD IDoc for which ASN is created.
Now when you do the GR using MIGO and execute RSMIPROACT again it will pick this GR to SNC because of this it will double the GR quantity in SNC.
You can use RSMIPROACT report for SMI and DR process for demand and stock information but not for GR if you are using VL31N/VL32N to send GR information to SNC.
My Question: ok if I will to remove the partner type LI setting by using A method (i.e. our initial method), may I know if I need to insert the partner no (i.e. PI production) in the MN23 output condition table?
Yes,If you are going to use LS then you need to remove LI partner type and insert the PI partner no in MN24 output table.
My Question: Previously Sandeep was suggesting using LI for the specific vendor master Number to create as partner no.in WE20, and now my system setup for MN23 include this particular vendor master No. (i.e. NOT the PI production), do you think it will solve this problem?

After an update last month, xbindkeys doesn't work anymore. I first thought it was comming from the package update from version 1.8.5-4 to 1.8.6-1. But the downgrading changes nothing.
So, I decided to reduce my ~/.xbindkeysrc to a very simple key binding:

After a lot of testing, xbindkeys works fine, xdotool and xvkbd work fine too. I have tried that

But since

works fine in the console, I have tried:

and it worked fine. The difference is, when xdotool is running, thanks to sleep, I have no keys pressed.
To be clear, the problem seems to come from the keys pressed (hardware) during xdotool sends key (software). But since all software haven't changed (xbindkeys, xdotool, xvkbd), and since kde has been updated to 5.6 during the pacman update, I suspect it comes from KDE.
So, I have tested under a software under GTK (Firefox, inside KDE, LibreOffice, Inkscape), and miracle, everything works fine.
I have then tested other KDE software, like KColourPaint, KDevelop, Konqueror, and it worked fine. So, it's a bug related to Kate and KWrite (KatePart?), I will just drop these software until they are fixed, btw, I have already seen another bug in Kate, KDE 5.6 has broken a lot of things :-(

[solved] Emacs in X windows - Characters are not displayed

Emacs works fine when run with -nw.
But when I run it without, in X Windows, emacs does not display characters properly. It just displays those whites boxes with the black borders. The ones you see when you're trying to view characters for which you don't have the right font.
I installed XEmacs, and that worked fine. I don't understand why the normal Emacs doesn't.
I'll post a screenshot when I'm home from work, but you should get the gist of the problem.

[EDIT] I restared X and everything worked. Thanks. I've updated the wiki with the information. I'll send a diff to the maintainer at some point; the PKGBUILD should really tell the user that he/she needs to install these fonts if using X windows

[SOLVED] emacs - gtkfilechooser

All of a sudden I am getting a very strange message on opening files for emacs.
(emacs:4970): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to read filechooser settings from
"/home/wpt/.config/gtk-2.0/gtkfilechooser.ini": Permission denied
I installed the templates package for emacs, and originally if I changed the mode to "latex-mode" the appropriate item would show up in the file list (new file using template). That no longer happens. If I open emacs and enter the name of a stub.tex file I created(which is empty), the template message does not appear.
If I open emacs from a terminal with the stub.tex file, the template message does appear in the file menu, but the above Gtk-WARNING message is displayed.
If this is a permission issue, how do I change it?
EDIT: Mysteriously, the error message has disappeared. BUT I still cannot access the menu item: "New File Using Template" from within emacs -- only if I load the empty stub.tex file from the command line or the pcman file manager.
EDIT: Spoke too soon. error message is back.
EDIT: There are two items that have to be added to ~/.emacs to make the template package work: (1) require 'template, and (2) template-initialize. I simply moved both to the bottom of the ~/.emacs file, and the error was corrected. Now the listing in the File menu shows: "New File Using Template" upon opening.

Yeah I figured that out when I got back home. It was my own fault for running emacs from Run Program in xfce instead of from the Terminal.
However, I've installed that package along with the 75dpi one and it still doesn't work. I even ran fc-cache again just to be sure. Weird.
