Kodak versus Shutterfly Print Quality

[Thought I posted this yesterday, but can't find it; apologies if duplicative.]
Although I want the convenience of creating albums and ordering prints of point-and-shoot snapshots through PE 4 from the Kodak Easy Share Gallery, after a test I noticed that Shutterfly produces better prints, particularly in skin tones. Has anyone else noticed this? And although I will use PE 4 to edit and print (on my own printer) particular photos that I want to take the time to work on, I still need a good solution for the batches of snapshots my wife and I take that don't justify the time to do individual editing. Are there options in ordering from Kodak that I'm missing (options that might improve the quality of the prints ordered)? Assuming I'm stuck with Shutterfly, are there shortcuts to creating an album in PE 4 that can be easily uploaded (without rearranging, e.g.) into Shutterfly for sharing and print ordering? Thanks in advance.

Barry,
You probably can not find yesterday's post because you accidentally posted in the Acrobat Elements forum - instead of here in the Photoshop Elements forum. Not to worry, you are here now.
>Are there options in ordering from Kodak that I'm missing (options that might improve the quality of the prints ordered)?
I can't help you here because I don't use the Kodak service. Peerhaps someone else who does will post a response.
>I still need a good solution for the batches of snapshots my wife and I take that don't justify the time to do individual editing.
>Assuming I'm stuck with Shutterfly, are there shortcuts to creating an album in PE 4 that can be easily uploaded (without rearranging, e.g.) into Shutterfly for sharing and print ordering?
Now I am not clear how you want to print the photos. Do you to print individual photos (perhaps 4x6)? Or do you want to print a full page layout with multiple photos on a page?
If your intent is to print and share individual photos, than you can use the Organizer workspace File > Export command to make copies of your photos in a single hard drive folder that you designate. This most probably will work for uploading to an online photo service, such as Shutterfly.
The next part of the discussion is what does Shutterfly use to control the sequence of the photos? If it uses File Name within Folder for the sequence, then if you make an Elements
b Collection
and establish the sequence you want within the Collection, then Select All and do the
b Export
specifying the optional
b Base
Naming, the file names in the resulting folder will keep the sequence of the Collection. The Export command also has options to convert the format of the photo file - for example, your file might be in the Photoshop PSD format but you might need to convert it to JPG for uploading to Shutterfly. This process is actually simple to do - it is merely seems complex the first time, so I suggest reading about the
B Export command
in the Help.

  • Book Printing Quality

I just finished a photo book in Aperture and thinking of getting it printed through Apple (Kodak).
Before sending, I would like to get some input on the book quality. Is it professional quality or .... ? ? ?
Any comments will help me make a decision whether go the Apple route.

That's good info to know because I was considering Blurb as well...
So I guess the only unanswered part of the question is: is there a difference in print quality betwee Aperture and iPhoto Books?
I would assume they are the same being printed via Apple's company (or hired printers)...
However since iPhoto is billed as a "Photo App for everyone", and Aperture is billed as "The Professional Photo App", maybe there is a difference in printers and thus print quality?
The Books seem to be more expensive in Aperture vs iPhoto... at least at first glance...

  • Poor Colour Print Quality using Canon Pixima 5000

    Hi there.
I am printing to an IP5000 off the back of an airport form MBAir with iPhoto. THe colours on the printouts are completely washed out with either a heavy blue tinge (for dark photo's) or redish tinge for lighter photo's.
I have tried HP daily paper 190grm and Kodak, both suffer the same problem, so it feels like the settins or printer driver is at fault.. can anyone point me at a calibration exercise to improve this? or offer any advice?

    Hello David,
I use the iP5200 at home for photo printing, which is a slightly later model to your iP5000. From the iPhoto print dialog open and the iP5000 set as the printer, I first select the paper type in the Presets menu, such as Photo Paper Plus Glossy II, which is a Canon 260gsm high gloss stock. Not sure which setting would be ideal for the papers you are using, especially given that the Preset (profiles) are based on Canon papers.
I then click Print to proceed to the normal print dialog and ensure the Color Matching menu is set to Canon Color Matching?
Also, I change to Quality & Media, ensure the media type menu showing the same paper selected in the previous Presets menu and then set the Print Quality to High?
Again, this procedure is for Canon stock. Using the Canon paper profiles may provide the unwanted results you are getting with the HP and Kodak papers, although I have used Kodak photo paper previously and the results have been okay.
If you cannot get a good result for your stock using the Canon paper profiles you may have to look at using ColorSync instead of Canon Color Matching. This would then require you to have an ICC profile for the paper you are using to ensure you get a reasonable result. Check the vendors web site for a profile for the papers you have. This will go a long way to helping you obtain an improved colour output.
Another suggestion would be to purchase a small amount of Canon photo paper. You could then print from iPhoto with the correct paper profile selected and see whether you are happy with the output. This would help determine if the paper is the cause of your current symptom.

  • Won't Print to Kodak 1400 Professional - "Printing" never ends

Hi - Using MacBook Pro 17" and Aperture. OS 10.4.x. Out of box, new Kodak 1400 Professional Printer worked fine, and printed several great pictures. A week later, I was unable to print anything at all. Printer Window shows "PRINTING" and the twirling barber pole thermometer, but it NEVER prints however long I wait and no error message.
I've opened and closed printer, restarted printer and computer, checked that the firmware is up to date, re-set the paper in tray, etc. ALSO, it won't print JPGS from Preview, or apparently anything.
    What could have happened?
    Fix?
    David Ferleger
    email [email protected]

I have no idea if this will help anyone, but it helped me. I had my Kodak 1400 working with no problems for quite a while. I never really printed much, but I did now and then. About two months ago, I ran out of paper and didn't purchase any more for a while. I finally got my two packs (so I could get the third free!) about two weeks ago. I now have two clients who need prints, a total of about 85 8x10s.
So, I setup the printer, installed the driver, and started going about my business. Setup the prints, got it all rolling, and prepared to run the first print through as I've found the first print on a new ribbon is a dud due to dust. Nothing happened. It went to "printing" and stared at me as though it were as dumbfounded I asked it to print as I was that it WASN'T printing.
That was yesterday. Since then, I've removed the driver about a bajillion times. Googled this, FAQ'd that, held my tongue appropriately, used different USB cables, different USB ports, removed the other printer, blahdy blahdy blah. Then, this afternoon while I was somewhere between awake and sleep, it hit me: why not try an older driver. I thought about it, and realized that since the last time I was using the 1400 successfully, I'd reinstalled OSX. What were the odds that when I downloaded the driver the last time, I downloaded the "wrong" driver and got the old one (1.0.2) instead of the NEW correct driver, 2.0.0.
So, I removed the old driver from everywhere I could. Restarted the computer. Installed 1.0.2, cliked print, and felt my heart sink as the red Error light blinked intermittently with the "Media" light. Shot through the heart... then, all of a sudden, it sucked in some paper, and started printing! Problem solved!
So, if you still can't print, try using 1.0.2. It might not work, but if you can't print with 2.0.0, what harm can it do? NONE! Muhahahaha. I feel so adventurous for using an old driver. (yes, this is what now counts as "adventure" for me... now go away or I shall taunt you a second time.)
    Hope that works for someone!

  • Print quality poor when exporting tiff from Ai

I recently sent an Illustrator file to FedEx Office to be printed and it just didn't look great. What do I need to fix (other than getting a real printing company! ) in order to get a higher print quality?
    This is what I did:
Created a file in Illustrator then exported it as a tiff. (I needed it cropped and didn't like what I got by cropping it using the Pathfinder steps/options.)
Placed the tiff file in a new Illustrator file.
    Printed it as a pdf.
The pdf version of my illustration was horrid, so I had them print it from the Illustrator file. It was considerably better, but still had diagonal stripes (gradient) and vertical stripes (printing).
How can I remedy this problem?

    Clipping Mask
Draw a closed path over the objects you want to maswk or crop, in this case probably a rectangle using the rectangle tool.
then select all the objects and the shape to be used as a mask.
    then go to Object>Clipping Mask>Make
BTW Scott's answer shouldbe marked as the answer.

  • Print quality terrible, may not be the printer - how can I fix it?

I've been cleaning and replacing cartridges in my printer lots but no improvement of print quality, in fact a deteriation so that now only magenta and a tiny bit of black print. I just used someone else's printer and same problem (different colour error though) but printed using their computer and the printer is fine. Could there be something I need to change in my mac rather than from the printer to solve this?
I have a MacBook Pro 13" and my printer is HP 8600dn, which has worked fine for 2 years.
The second printer which I can't print on but does work from another computer is the Epson Stylus SX420W.
I've just put new HP cartridges in and it's claiming to have finished the yellow despite me not seeing any yellow being printed.
Can anyone help?? This is driving me crazy and I really need my printer! Thanks, Eve

There are alterate drivers in OS X for each of those printers. Try Generic PCL 6 for the HP and the Gutenprint driver for the Epson. - in other words, add the printer again, but select the alternate driver.

  • Print quality problems with bluetooth Canon ip90 printer?

I've had this problem on prior PBs and the canon website is decidely NOT helpful so here goes....
I have a pixma ip90v printer with a bluetooth adaptor added to my MBook. It prints fine and I had no problems adding it to my new computer (it was originally used on a PBG4 and I had the same problem which is...) - every now and then the print quality goes to a light purple as if it's trying to save memory. Has anyone else encountered something like this?

Try resetting the printing system http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14141
You'll have to reinstall your printer after the reset.

  • Print Quality HP Photosmart 5510

I have a HP Photosmart 5510 operating on Windows XP OS. The printing has started to print crooked on the page no matter if it's a print, copy or scan. I did a Print Quality Diagnostic Report and the Pen Alignment Status was a:Fail.
I then printed an alignment page but the scanner would not recognise it.
Any ideas what is causing this?

  • Print Quality Question

When using the J6400 series there are several ways to set print quality....  There is the button on the front of the machine as well as the printing shortcuts that show up under preferences when you click on print.  Which selection over-rides the other and takes priority?  I have several customized shortcuts that use fast-draft and black cartridge only.  I'm hoping the button on the machine that always defaults to mid-level quality doesn't take priority over my customized settings.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
AppleWorks changes the resolution of all graphic formats except PICT to 72 dpi. There are a couple of things you can do improve the print quality of images.
    1. Turn on Fractional Character widths in Preferences > General > Topic: Text. This is a text setting, but it does improve the print quality of images.
Open the image in Preview (32-bit) or GraphicConverter & Save As... a PICT to use in AppleWorks. PICT is generally the best format to use for inserting or pasting into AppleWorks.

  • Print quality problem with Officejet Pro K5400

I purchased the above printer on August 8th of this year and I have really liked it until now. The print quality has gone to ----! I have done a chat with a technician, replaced any of the cartridges that might be low and it is worse than ever. Two thirds of the page will print  okay and then the last third is either blank or very poor quality. I have tried changing the print quality from draft to best and it doesn't help. What  recourse do I have? I can't find a real person to talk to.
Does anyone out there have an answer?

I purchased my Pro K5400 in May 2008.  In the beginning it was loud (still is) but the printing was beautiful.  Over the last three months the color printing is really bad.  I've replaced the cartridges with only HP ink, I've aligned printheads, I've cleaned printheads, I've calibrated the linefeed.  The diagnostic suggests I replace the printheads.  Really?  After less than a year?  It also sporadically feeds several pages at once.  And, I do a lot of printing of claim forms, it arbitrarily expands the left margin.  Oh, it also jams often.  Again, I believe these last two are due to a feeding problem.  I sent an online question and got answers back in somewhat broken English that seem hooked on just replacing the ink and cleaning the printheads.  Also, they gave me directions on how to clear a jam.  This I know as I clear jams all the time in this printer.  They are unable (perhaps due to language barrier) to answer the feeding/jamming problems.  I really see this as just a very bad quality printer.  I've owned other HPs and never had problems like this.  What is the best way to contact someone in the United States about this printer?

  • Print quality.

    HI all.
Is there any way to improve print quality on iPad?
The same photo on PC prints well via Phtoshop Elements to HP Photosmart AirPrint printer.
From the iPad 4, the colours are harsh and unnatural, and quality is generally poor.
    Same problem on iPad 2.

Hello @Strander and welcome to the HP Forums
Just to clarify, are you getting these lines when printing from the Mac or when making a Copy/doing a Scan?
If it's when you're printing, please try the steps within this Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One and Deskjet Ink Advantage 4510 e-All... document and it should help get rid of anything unwanted.
If the lines are happening when Copying or Scanning, please get a paper towel with some water (or glass cleaner like Windex) and wipe down the glass. If you're not really sure where to focus your cleaning, just line the page up with the glass and see where the lines are and focus your cleaning there
Let me know how this goes for you!

  • Print quality settings

    Hi,
when I print from my ipad or ePrint, I cannot control the print quality settings. I want them to be only black and draft quality, which I can manually apply and set as default when I print from my Mac. How do I get that setting to also apply for ePrint and printing from mobile devices?
    Thanks,
    jjborje
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Hi there, the degree of control you have on print settings when printing from a mobile device depends on the method you are using to print and to some extent the content you're trying to print. I would recommend you use the ePrint mobile print app which you can download from iTunes. Using this app allows you set print settings including Draft and Normal modes as well as selecting Grayscale instead of colour. These options are available when you print web pages, documents or emails from within the app. If you print photos they will print in colour and default to photo media.
If you send emails with file attachments to the printers email address you have no control over print settings. Similarly using AirPrint does not all ow you much control over print settings.
Hope this information helps and post back with any more questions.

  • Print quality using iphoto

How can I change the print quality when printing photos through iphoto on my iMac? I am running OSX 10.7.2 I have installed my printer with the latest downloaded drivers etc. The printer is a HP photosmart 5510. I have gone into system preferences, then print and scan. From here I can see my printer but can't see anyway of changing the print quality. Similarly, if I go into print settings via iPhoto I have the same problem. I have been able to change the quality in Safari but can't see how to create a default setting for photo printing at the highest quality

    Hello:
One way of assuring high quality would be to export the photo to the desktop (at highest quality) and then print from there.
In my own case, I find that when I occasionally print a photo from iPhoto, the quality is quite good.

  • Print quality issues

    Hello
We are having print quality issue when printing PDF's to our Canon iR C2880/C3380 UFR II.  This was the most recent print driver from canons website which was download about 6 weeks ago. version 2.9.  At one time we were having other pring quality issues and we changed from the post script driver to the ufr ii which solved the problem at the time.
This past saturday we upgrade the operating systems on the systems in question and they are now running windows 7 64 bit with service pack 1 installed. image 1 is the orignal pdf that was printed with a 3rd party pdf printer(PDF Xchange view version 2.5)  image 2 is the same document that was printed using acrobat reader 10.1.2
the options for the print were pretty much identical between the program.  Print as image was not selected.  1 thing to note with the acrobat when  print as image was selected there was a slight improvement in the print quality.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
