Print Quality Question

When using the J6400 series there are several ways to set print quality....  There is the button on the front of the machine as well as the printing shortcuts that show up under preferences when you click on print.  Which selection over-rides the other and takes priority?  I have several customized shortcuts that use fast-draft and black cartridge only.  I'm hoping the button on the machine that always defaults to mid-level quality doesn't take priority over my customized settings.

AppleWorks changes the resolution of all graphic formats except PICT to 72 dpi. There are a couple of things you can do improve the print quality of images.
1. Turn on Fractional Character widths in Preferences > General > Topic: Text. This is a text setting, but it does improve the print quality of images.
Open the image in Preview (32-bit) or GraphicConverter & Save As... a PICT to use in AppleWorks. PICT is generally the best format to use for inserting or pasting into AppleWorks.

  • Appleworks Print Quality Question

I am using Appleworks 6.2.4 and iPhoto 7.1.5. I have been trying to put together an Appleworks (drawing) document that includes a photo that I exported from iPhoto. I have tried various exports, various printer settings (using a Cannon i960 photo printer)but no matter what I do I cannot get the imported photo to print in as nice a quality as it prints when I print straight from iPhoto.
    I have tried:
-exporting as "current" quality from iPhoto (1.2 meg file) and using Appleworks scale by percentage to reduce to 4x6 size.
-exporting as JPEG at medium (24 k), high (32 k), and maximum quality (120 k) and printing without adjusting size in Appleworks at all.
Surely this can be done, iPhoto is able to reduce the photo to 4x6 size and print crisply, why is it so difficult to get Appleworks to do the same?

When I print my photos in Iphoto they look great. When I print them in LR3 they look flat and noisy. I'm not printing in batch mode.  Is there some other adjustment I should be making?

  • Print quality problem with Officejet Pro K5400

I purchased the above printer on August 8th of this year and I have really liked it until now. The print quality has gone to ----! I have done a chat with a technician, replaced any of the cartridges that might be low and it is worse than ever. Two thirds of the page will print  okay and then the last third is either blank or very poor quality. I have tried changing the print quality from draft to best and it doesn't help. What  recourse do I have? I can't find a real person to talk to.
Does anyone out there have an answer?

I purchased my Pro K5400 in May 2008.  In the beginning it was loud (still is) but the printing was beautiful.  Over the last three months the color printing is really bad.  I've replaced the cartridges with only HP ink, I've aligned printheads, I've cleaned printheads, I've calibrated the linefeed.  The diagnostic suggests I replace the printheads.  Really?  After less than a year?  It also sporadically feeds several pages at once.  And, I do a lot of printing of claim forms, it arbitrarily expands the left margin.  Oh, it also jams often.  Again, I believe these last two are due to a feeding problem.  I sent an online question and got answers back in somewhat broken English that seem hooked on just replacing the ink and cleaning the printheads.  Also, they gave me directions on how to clear a jam.  This I know as I clear jams all the time in this printer.  They are unable (perhaps due to language barrier) to answer the feeding/jamming problems.  I really see this as just a very bad quality printer.  I've owned other HPs and never had problems like this.  What is the best way to contact someone in the United States about this printer?

  • Print quality settings

    Hi,
when I print from my ipad or ePrint, I cannot control the print quality settings. I want them to be only black and draft quality, which I can manually apply and set as default when I print from my Mac. How do I get that setting to also apply for ePrint and printing from mobile devices?
    Thanks,

Hi there, the degree of control you have on print settings when printing from a mobile device depends on the method you are using to print and to some extent the content you're trying to print. I would recommend you use the ePrint mobile print app which you can download from iTunes. Using this app allows you set print settings including Draft and Normal modes as well as selecting Grayscale instead of colour. These options are available when you print web pages, documents or emails from within the app. If you print photos they will print in colour and default to photo media.
If you send emails with file attachments to the printers email address you have no control over print settings. Similarly using AirPrint does not all ow you much control over print settings.
Hope this information helps and post back with any more questions.

  • Print quality issues

    Hello
We are having print quality issue when printing PDF's to our Canon iR C2880/C3380 UFR II.  This was the most recent print driver from canons website which was download about 6 weeks ago. version 2.9.  At one time we were having other pring quality issues and we changed from the post script driver to the ufr ii which solved the problem at the time.
This past saturday we upgrade the operating systems on the systems in question and they are now running windows 7 64 bit with service pack 1 installed. image 1 is the orignal pdf that was printed with a 3rd party pdf printer(PDF Xchange view version 2.5)  image 2 is the same document that was printed using acrobat reader 10.1.2
the options for the print were pretty much identical between the program.  Print as image was not selected.  1 thing to note with the acrobat when  print as image was selected there was a slight improvement in the print quality.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

  • Print Quality Issue 6500a e710n-z

How can I change the print quality setting up or down. The preferences are locked on 300 dpi no matter what I change. Sometimes if I delete all drivers and reload the setting will come back at 600 dpi but again the settings are un-changable. I'm using windows 7 software.  I have tried for 2 weeks to get an answer and no one seems to know. Please help!

    Hi bnachsin,
hmmmm...can you describe the software application you are using when printing, and attempting to change the print settings? Also, can you note which OS (Win7, etc) you are using?
Lastly, can you describe if this only happen with certain print jobs (text, etc) or all print jobs, and describe what you are printing?
    bhachsin,
it occured to me that this device may be relying on a media sensor to perform paper type/width detection.
Question: are you using specific/special paper (colored, pre-printed paper, or cheques) for your print job?
Quick test: If you are using special paper, try using a white, plain sheet of paper instead of the paper you using and let me know the results.

  • "print quality diagnostic report"

I have a HP Deskjet 3520 All-in-one printer and I just went to the "HP Deskjet 3520 series toolbox". Under the first tab (Device Services) is the button "Print Quality Diagnostics Page". I then clicked on that button and got the "Print Quality Diagnostic Report".
However i can not find anything that tells me what all the diagnostics mean.
attached is the document that I am talking about.
    Questions:
    1.   The Magenta shows lines in the top of the lines on the top of the report but these go away at the bottom. Do I need to run a clean head cycle or seeing as that cartridge is low on ink just replace it?
    2.   In the bars of solid colors the light yellow (the bottom bar) has a white streak through it. Again I know it is low on ink. Is the issue there the ink level or does the head need cleaning?
    3.   Below those bars are numbered items about the printer but what does PHA mean? (Print Head Assembly?)
    4.   Number 22 in that list is PHA Drops. What does that mean?
Does anyone know where I can go to get answers to these questions?
Any and all help is appreciated.

  • Print quality in Aperture 3 and layout export

I searched, but did not find recent information on print quality of books ordered through Aperture 3.
    So, my questions are:
    1. How is the quality of the books ordered through Aperture 3? Few years ago I heard that the pictures are a bit darken. Is this the case with recent books? I plan to order a hardcover large.
    2. The book will have the maximum of 100 pages (309 photos), and it's difficult for me to arrange the pictures in Aperture. I'm thinking to print the layout of the book and then to decide which picture goes where.
I entered some dummy text in the text fileds, so I can see it on my draft print. I would like to see on the print also the placements for pictures, but without adding pictures (it would be a waste of ink if I keep the pictures). Is possible to have a complete layout export of such a book?
    Thanks

    Hi
You can store as high quality as You like on a Data-DVD - to be used on another computer - BUT if You want it to be playable on any standard DVD-Player then You have to do a Video-DVD and they are as standard only SDef-video AND interlaced.
So feeding iDVD, Roxio Toast™ or DVD-Studio Pro
    • HD material results in down-scaling and neither of them give better result (rather worse) than if they are feed SD-video from start
    • Progressive material as 1080p - as Video-DVD is as standard interlaced video result will be omitting every second line and following quality loss.
I create my SlideShows in iMovie HD6 or FinalCut as they downscale while keeping quality and they can transport interlaced video over to iDVD without more quality loss.
iMovie'08 to 11 can not do this any way known by me.

  • EPSON Stylus Color 1160 changing default print quality under 10.4

    Greetings.
I have the above printer and since Epson no longer produces a driver that will function under 10.4 I am using the Gimp driver. Which works fine.
The printer is connected to our server and so functions as a ‘shared printer’ in the network. The server runs 10.4.8.
However I would like to tweak the default settings for all users.
One of the things we use this printer for is to make drafts for checking text or layouts. The default setting is for an excellent print quality. I would like to change this to a lower resolution (saves ink > saves money > saves planet > reduces carbon footprint, ;-)))
Anybody knows how to do this?
    Thanks

    Greg good morning,
It did solve it partly. Here is what I have now. If printing directly from the computer the printer is connected from now is no problem, the settings have changed.
However as this is my server (the Epson is connected to it via USB) printing from the other machines have not changed the standard dialog box.
When I try access the Epson setup via http://127.0.0.1:631/printers on the individual computers I get:
Forbidden. You don't have permission to access the resource on this server. <</div>
Any suggestions as to how to solve this so I have there also the standard box changed? Reason is of course that on the individual computers the dialog is generated locally and their settings are following the standard rule than send to the printer, bypassing the setting of the printer. So question is, how to get in to this dialogue?

  • Keep hp 6700 in good shape: automatic print quality diagnostic page every week?

    Hi all,
I've recently bought the HP Officejet 6700 Premium, and I'm concerned about keeping it in good condition, since I had to replace my previous canon printer because of a stuck printhead (the photo black one, I didn't used it for a long time).
Since I don't print much (but I'm using the ADF scanner a lot), and other family members prints sporadically, most of the time in black and white, I would like to setup an the printer to automatically print a diagnostic page every week to make sure everything is alright.
Using eprint, IFTTT and google calendar I could automatically send a file to print (I already set up the printer to wake up a few minutes before the calendar event) with black and color bars (someone suggest to print the google homepage since it has many colors but uses little ink).
Is there any chance I can directly print the print quality diagnostic page (so I can fully diagnose a problem if it occurs)?
    Thanks for the attention
    Cheers from Italy!

    Hey,
To clarify for you and answer your new questions on the printers self maintenance.
The maintenance cycle occurs randomly. It will occur after any power up, after print jobs(not every one) and any time it "think's" printhead health is poor. As mentioned above the printer to does have to be powered on for this to occur.
You can if you'd like still print off the odd test page just to check, once a month would be adaquet.
If you want to be saving power and are turning it off, then you would want it to be at least powering on and running the automated service that occurs weekly.
I hope this clarifies everything for you. Thanks for your posts.

  • Officejet Pro L7590 Print Quality Problems - Black/Yellow Printhead

    Officejt Pro L7590 All-In-One
Running on Windows 7 64 bit, USB connected to computer
Approx 2.5 yrs old; has printed 30,000 pages.
Issue:  Black/Yellow printhead replaced about 500-1000 pages ago; new unit only tested as "Fair" in diagnostics, even though it was fresh outta the box.  Print Quality good.
About two weeks ago, printer refused to print, flashing ambler "!", etc., error message regarding black/yellow printhead.
Ordered replacement ($71 again -- ouch!  Whole printer only cost $199 30 months ago).Again, new unit only "fair" in diagnostic (original Cyan/Magenta printhead still reads as "good").
New printhead required much cleaning and aligning, and now prints with large gaps on a regular basis down the page.  Talked to tech guy @ Staples where i bought it; his only "helpful" suggestion was that most people just toss the printers the first time the printheads go bad.
    Print heads are separately warranted.
    My questions:
    (1)  What else is there that's screwing up my print quality,a nd is it fixable?
    (2)  Can i get my $ back on the two printheads that didn't fix the printer's problems?

  • Print quality - good, bad or indifferent? Your opinions sought.

Here is the message I wanted to send (gremlins in my keyboard) :-)
    Hi all,
Well I have followed some of the threads in this list and have seen quite a few comments about LR's print quality. As I am very happy with it I would be interested in finding out exactly what people don't like about the print module and the output quality.
Maybe I am happy with it because my lack of darkroom experience means I cannot seewhat could be better. Maybe it is because I inprt mainly in B&W with some toning or lith effect grain added. I don't know. I certainly don't print in full blown colour.
Just to provide some extra information I use a Mac with a 21 inch LCD screen that is calibrated using a gretagmacbeth "Huey", an Epson Photo R800 and a professionally created icc profile for, mainly, Hahemuhle Photo rag paper. A4 is the largest size I print on (for obvious reasons). LR manages the colour through the profile, print resolution is 360dpi and sharpening is High.
So the question remains what do others find wrong with their prints? Or is it just a case of having to find something to groan about?
    I await your responses
    Andrew.

I believe that what Morey was originally thinking was that ProPhoto RGB values were being sent to the printer, and the printer had no idea what to do with them. I quote Morey:
"Never the less, the user needs some way in LR to define what color space is sent to the printer when MBR is enabled. Today it is delivering ProPhotoRGB color space image regardless of the embedded color space..."
As per Andrew Rodney's comments above, I don't think this is valid. I very much doubt that a printer gets RGB values along with an embedded profile like ProPhoto RGB... essentially telling the printer 'here are the raw RGB values, and here's the color profile to interpret those RGB values, now you're on your own printer... go 'head and convert to the PCS and then to your CMYK space...'. Seems illogical. Seems much more logical that LAB values (as in the LAB values in the PCS) are sent to the printer, and then the printer profile (an output ICC profile) maps values from the PCS to the printer's CMYK values.
So, it doesn't matter what color space your image is in, as long as your printing software is doing the conversion from the embedded color profile to LAB.
That being said, I still can't get prints worth a damn from LR... they all come out dark and over-saturated. If they happened to come out dark and *under*-saturated, then I might also be 'fooled' into believing that the image looks like unconverted raw ProPhoto RGB chromaticity values (generally very dull)... but I don't think that's the issue at all.
There's either something wrong with the way LR and PS are using these printer profiles, or the printer profiles are just bad to begin with. I'm not ready to jump at either conclusion, though the fact that 'Managed by Printer' gives me prints that match my soft-proofed view in PS makes the printer profiles suspect. The fact that 'Managed by LR' OR 'Managed by Printer' BOTH give me the same colors in LR leads me to believe something's wrong with LR, simply because it's not the case in PS, and PS is a much more mature program than LR. Yes, I'm going out on a limb in making that comment :)

  • PhotoSmart 6520 Print Quality Diagnostic no grayscale

Have a PhotoSmart 6520 printer that has worked well for 6 months.  Used several black cartridges over the 6 months.
Ran out of black ink again and replaced the cartridge, new cartridge would not work at all.  So put in another, which seemed to work at first, but when printing black in any darkness other than full black there is little to no ink dispensed.  However, it will still print black text.
Now after changing printer cartridges twice, when printing the "Print Quality Diagnostic" page, all the text prints out fine, but the grayscale bars do not print at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Are your color cartridges working?  Light grayscale areas are typically printed using the color inks to give better print quality.  (The black ink droplets are much larger than the color, grayscale using color gives better prints.)  Depending on your operating system there may be a setting in the driver for "Print in Grayscale".
Check the color print quality as shown in the document here.
