  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU and S2K Bus Disconnect

    Hello
I have a MSI KT3 Ultra ARU and a AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (266 FSB version). I wonder if I have support for termal diode in both CPU and mainboard.
Is S2K Bus Disconnect and CPU HALT Command detection the same thing?

KT3 ultra's I believe were the first boards capable of reading thermal diode inside of AMD XP (Palamino/T-bred/barton, etc) and higher cores.
Not the first, but they were up there as being among the first.  A few KT266 boards implemented the circuitry to read thermal diode.  Second or third revision boards, or new models, based on KT266A and even KM266 began implementing the thermal diode circuitry.
KT3 Ultra has thermal diode read circuit:

Does any body out there know if a MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU and a MSI FX5900XT 128MB DDR Video Card will work well together?

like the grayone say, is true. for more ensure, try and search the graphic cards support list for your board at MSI (Sorry cause i don,t no is  where the site located)
in my opinion, most is compability for your card, when is a AGP slot.
Except the new one like the AGP slot, call AGR( Accelaration Graphic Riser slot) that really need to find a compatibility graphic cards.....

  • KT3 Ultra 3: Crashes on high-performance settings

    Hello, another frustrated newbie here.
Here's my problem.  I have an AMD 2200 xp processor.  When my computer boots up it says I have an AMD 1500 processor.  Yes, I know I need to change to FSB speed to 133 then I'll have a 2200 processor.  But here's the rub, when I change the FSB setting to 133 in the bios my computer crashes on reboot.  The only way to not crash is to go back into the bios, return to defaults (100 speed FSB) and then the computer works again.  It also crashes when I try other high-speed settings in the bios.  Everything else is working fine.  I've updated all the drivers I could find.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I am reliying on the expertise of this forum.
    Thanks
    Tom

Hi, using "High Performance" settings actually tweak on few hidden BIOS settings that's not visible in the BIOS menu. You can firstly, load "BIOS Default" settings, and then set the rests to high performance settings.
IF you still prefer to stick to "Load High PErformance Settings", then you might need to tune down your DRAM settings instead, tune to what your DDR RAM is capable of.

  • Max "benefit" with KT3 ultra 2 and XP 333 cpu?

The KT3 ultra 2 board is based on the KT333 chipset and will support an XP 333Mhz(FSB) processor, but I'm a little confused about whether I can get the max performance out of an XP 333 chip with this mobo.  I kind of remember seeing a discussion about this about a year ago when I bought my KT3 mobo and XP 1900+ 266(FSB) processor.
I guess my question basically is with a KT3 mobo and an XP chip with 333 FSB, which will be the "bottleneck"?  Or are they really running at the same speed?
    Thanks,
    Chris

the benefit would be that you can run you cpu at 333 along with your ram at 333 no bottle neck!!!
but with the 266 fsb processors if you ran your ram at 333 and cpu at 266 the cpu is is the bottle neck!!!

  • MSI KT3 Ultra 6380E and (RAM)

    Will the KT3 Ultra(6380E) support a 512mb DDR RAM at 400mhz?

I`m thinking the MB`s and memory are backwards complient, meaning sure 400MHZ memory will run in there, but the MB will not be able to run it @ 400MHz only 333. Right from MSI product info page.
    Main Memory
        - Supports six memory banks using three 184-pin DDR DIMMs
    - Supports a maximum memory size up to 3GB
    - Supports 2.5V DDR200/266/333 DDR SDRAM DIMM

  • KT3 Ultra 2 and 2600+ = I give up

Well I have been running a 1900+ in a KT3 Ultra 2 for over a year and finally decided to buy a 2600+ with the $400 tax relief check I got.
To make a long story short, the board did not like it. It would randomly not post, and simply would not boot windows (usually a  registry error) with anything over a 150 fsb. At 150 or less though windows worked perfectly.  I combed the forums here and google groups and nothing here helped.
So I gave up. Bought a KT6 Delta - LSR (just came in today) and  so far it works flawlessly!  Great board for only $89.
The KT3 Ultra 2 still runs without a glitch with my old 1900+.

it is something other than the board
At fsb150 the whole system runs outside its specifications, not only the ram. fsb150 means pci37MHz and agp74Mhz. If you use fsb166 the system will be within it's specifications again = pci/agp 33/66MHz. Especially the chipset of the KT3 itself doesn't like overclocking so much.
The KT6 seems to be much more powerfull in case of overclocking, if you meant this you're absolutly right. But give it a try at fsb166, maybe it works?

  • KT4 Ultra board and AMD XP2800+

I just installed a XP2800+ chip into this motherboard and since the FSB one the 2800 CPU is 333 what do I set the CPU FSB clock to to get the 333 I need? According to the test chart the KT4 Ultra will support this chip and I did install the newest BIOS.
    Any ideas appreciated.

  • Who gets past 240 FSB and with what BIOS/settings?

I hope that folks at MSI are working hard for a BIOS fix.
I don't understand how some guys are reporting FSBs of higher than 240, but I'm totally stuck there, no matter what I do. BIOS 1.2B5 made no difference at all.
Just you MSI guys make sure that all these are BIOS issues and not hardware related. My CPU has not reached its limit at 240FSB and I want it.  Oh, and same goes to AMD   for locking the higher multis. If they were not locked, I'd have been just perfectly pleased

First of all I am aiming for a 2.3-2.4GHz cpu speed, with memory running at 200Mhz or better.  This means I have to crank the fsb up to 250 or 260 and use a 9x multiplier, and 6:5 ratios.  These are my targets, now onto what I have tried.
Using the 1:1 ratio, I have managed to get to 2.15GHz (10x215fsb), with the memory at 2-3-5-2 (2.85V).  CPU voltage is default, and I've also run up to 225fsb with this config, although I have to slacken memory timings.
I have also used a 6:5 memory divider to try and see how far I can push the fsb/cpu speed.  I got up to 225fsb (2.25GHz cpu speed), again on default voltage and it was perfectly stable.
However the problems start when I try and go over 230 fsb, the board just will not POST.  I have kept the memory running below 200Mhz when trying this, and have even used 9x multiplier, 3xHTT etc...with no luck.
The highest I ever got it to POST on was about 232fsb (using 9x multiplier)
See my posts on my memory tests:  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=54265&sid=
I found two great brands of ram that allow me to run at 230 and 235fsb 4ht 1:1 with 2.7V 1t-2.5-3-3-10 timings. They both passed 30 rounds of memtest86 with no errors at this speed. Cpu@ 2350 mhz @ 1.6V

  • Kt3 Ultra 2 and ram

Hello all first excuse me for my bad english (im french and only 14)
So i bought 5 weeks ago two sticks of memory 512 samsung pc3200 (400mhz) on another thread (in another forum) i read that the two sticks will adapt (i dont know if we can say this word in english) to the 256 pc 2700 that i already have but in my case i wont in fact when i put  the 256+512 there are bugs like this . I dont have these bugs with only the 256.
I dont really know what's the problem i think the 512 doesn't adapt to 256 or that the 512 o/c the 256 so i need the solution to put the 512 to pc2700
    Thanks all

Joy4ever, I have not heard of Mosel ram myself. I am not sure what kind of ram it is, by that I mean cheap generic or average. I do strongly believe that your memory is not a quality brand. As such I would have to question the integrity of the ram first as the root cause of your problem.
Perhaps some other users could make some authoritative comments regarding Mosel ram.
Of course as osnavi says psu could be another issue here.
Nevertheless, I would try to increase the voltage supplied to the memory modules by a max of 0.2v (no more). Try 0.1v first. DDR ram runs at 2.5v so try 2.6v first and then 2.7v but if 2.7v does not work, I would not go above this level.
If that fails and your psu is ok, then try to borrow some quality ram to try in your rig. At this stage I would not buy anything until you are sure of the problem.
By the way can you also check your memory timings they are located in your bios>advanced chipset features>dram timing control. Perhaps these were set to work for the pc2700 ram but are too tight for the Mosel ram.
Can you also do what osnavi says and tell us your psu with the 3.3, 5 & 12v rails. Also the combined 3.3 & 5v max wattage. The KT3 Ultra2 draws most of it's requirements from the 3.3 & 5v rails. The only thing it uses 12v for is are the fans, HDD and opticals.
As a guide 128Mb of ram uses about 8-10W from the 5v rails. If you have 1Gb of ram then this would push the total requirements for the ram alone to 65-80W.

  • KT3 ULTRA 2 and XP+2400

what happens if my boards bios hasnt been updated and i put in an xp 2400 will it still work but slower or will it not post at all?

WCPUID doesn't always report the CPU correctly when the BIOS doesn't support the chip.  The only decent explanation for it I can find is that WCPUID is getting the info from the BIOS ID string rather than the chip itself.
AMD's own two utilities execute the dedicated CPUID instruction set, which is an internal CPU instruction, to get the info directly from the chip rather than just a simple BIOS ID string matchup.
    http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_869_1039%5e871%5e2364,00.html
The following explains the difference between the two methods and why AMD's utilities are more reliable than simple BIOS ID string matching.

  • KT4 Ultra board and AMD XP2800+ boot issues

    This is a repost sorry
I cannot seem to get the computer to run when I set FSB to anything over 163.
It should be set at 166.  I updated the BIOS to the newest one available.
At 164 the system simply reboots itself.
165 or 166 the system boots then freezes.
Here are the specs on my Power supply:
    400 watt power supply
    +5 38A max 1.5 Min
    +12 18A max .8 Min
    +3.3 28A .5 Min
    Running 768MB of PC2100, Chaintech Nvidia FX5600 256 MB, 2 60GB drives, 1 CD-rw and 1 CD.
Do I need to tweak any voltages?
    Hope this helps
    Thanks again
    Gary

PC2100 memory does not help..., should be at least 2700 (333mhz)
you are overclocking your memory and that is most probably why you can't get 166 on  your fsb

  • [VIA] Problem with kt3 ultra 2 and 2800+ Barton

Please help. I've a 2800+ barton on my motherboard 6380E with bios 5.7 But my processor is recignized as a 2500+.
In the bios, my Fsb is 166 and all the rest is on auto. I've 1,5 GB memory pc2700 333 mhz.
I'm trying to force 12.5/13 in bios but it stay as 11.5 (saw with cpuz). What can i do to have the 2800+ recognized with this motherboard ? Help !!! I've change the FSB to 180, but with cpu-z, the processor is still a 2500+

You could try WCPUID, which can also determine the cpu that you have.
    http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002374/src/download.html
Failing that as Wonkanoby said check the codes on the cpu itself.
Perhaps as an alternative just try raising the FSB from 166 to 167. Upon boot instead of the bios detecting the cpu, it will give you the clock speed albeit at 167. Since you have the multiplier you can then work out the clock speed at 166, if you see what I mean and determine (or have a better idea) of the cpu that you have.
    Good Luck
