KTorrent: rarely uploading

I was using µtorrent on windows and it seems to work in wine as well, more or less, using too much CPU and freezing now and then. So I switched to ktorrent and everything was working seemingly fine, except for uploading.
I have left the default values for the queue manager and contrary to µtorrent, I don't see it uploading most of the time. And when it does, it's only about 15 out of 60kb/s. µtorrent used all of the allotted 60kb/s after running for about 15minutes.
The ports are opened in iptables and forwarded in my router, so it shouldn't be a networking issue. I also made sure to restart the pc so that there are no leftover port binds from µtorrent.
I can also see seeds trying to connect to me even though I'm a seed myself. Shouldn't this happen at all?
By the way, is ktorrent development dead? The site linked on the wiki, ktorrent.org, seems to be offline and the last version seems to be more than a year old.

Soukyuu wrote:Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm using RSSfeeds to pull my content and the way transmission does it looks complicated to me. I also tried deluge, but it also suffers from the same behavior as qbt, as it is based on libtorrent as well.
For Deluge anyway I noticed something like this too.  But then I realized that "Rate Limit IP overhead" was checked and that takes into account the estimated protocol traffic in to any IP limits.  So what was happening was that when I was downloading too it generated significant upstream protocol traffic leaving very little left for the uploads/seeding.  I don't know if this explains your issue or not but figured that I would mention it just in case.
Also check that your ISP connection isn't having issues.  I had strange upload issues on torrents and sometimes when uploading to Youtube.  I discovered that my upstream signal strength on my cable modem was at the border line for being within specifications and sometimes it would cause issues with the upstream connection.  One of the things I saw was my torrents all going to 0.0 kbps upload randomly.  I thought it was my ISP throttling until I figured it out.  If on cable usually you can access the modem at an ip like 192.168.100.1 and then see the diagnostics page for the signal strength.

i ran pacman -Syu  i seen it was gonna upgrade to whats in arch repository & i let it . now i can download but not upload? i tried reverting back to what i had but same results
ktorrent when i start it or stop/restart i see my peers jump a bit but it drops to 0 with no uploading
azureus says theres a connection error
bittorrent just sets there with no message that im seeing
    any thoughts on this

Yeah, I was getting that when trying to upload some of the Arch torrents. However, I could connect with others with no problem. Has there been some kind of tracker verification change recently? I'm not sure what is going on...maybe someone else can perhaps verify whether or not the Arch BitTorrent links will activate on their system.
I'll look around some more but the problem is sporadic.

  • How to make PhotoshopAlbumSE stop scanning USB drives

How to I make Photoshop Album Starter Edition STOP automatically scanning & displaying the images/contents of flash/external drives that get connected? I've looked in Preference and don't seem to find anything that applies.
Being able to open PA-SE and TELL it to scan a drive for images (and display thumbnails) is one thing...I DON'T want it doing so all on it's own.
    TIA!

i have already done this - agree with tia - best to be able to tell it to do something (i had three different programs trying to upload images at the same time - nightmare!)
however, is there a way to remove icon from bottom r.h corner completely? it seems unnecessary to have something 'ready' all the time when i rarely upload photos!
(i know how to remove it temporarily by "rht click, exit", but it will reappear everytime i start up

  • No proxy for elements in an FC Bundle

I've had this problem (randomly, it would seem), since we started using the FC Server 18 months ago. It's always been annoying but now it's impacting our workflow.
    Here's the scenario:
Someone annotates an interview and an editor makes sub-clips from the annotations and uploads the FC Bundle to the server. The sub-clips show up as elements but DO NOT have proxies so no one and look at them using the client.
When I try to re-analyze the clip - nothing happens. Nothing happens on the client end - no jobs are spawned. And nothing happens on the server ends - Compressor remains silent and no new processes are started.
Help! This has gone from mildly annoying to a real show stopper.

Still confused as to what a bundle is then... I uploaded the FC project and all of the files in the browser are uploaded with it into a new folder on our edit-in-place device called "projectnamefcpmedia".
The assets are most definitely uploaded. I can see them in the folder on the edit-in-place device and the media is properly linked (to the edit-in-place device) when I check out the project.
We very rarely upload assets on their own. We usually upload them as part of an FC project file because most of our assets are only used in a single project. Most of the time the element (as well as the asset) has a proxy but we've found that, if the element doesn't have a proxy, there is no way of creating one even though it's properly linked and it displays a proxy as an asset.

  • Going over 10MB limit

I have been with BT broadband Option 1 (10 MB) since June 2009 and have just received my first notice telling me that my use was over 10 MB in February and that I willl now be charged extra for this.  My usage has been no more than usual. I rarely upload music or download films to watch and don't use I-player or YouTube. After receiving a warning on 16th February (I think it was) that I had already used up 7MB, I was even more careful with my usage and reduced the amount of time I was online and kept a daily check. However, at the end of last month, I was 1MB over. I'm not sure how this is worked out by BT or how I can check this myself but I consider myself to be a low user and am unable to understand how I could have gone over 10MB.
Seeing the other comments on here, I am beginning to wonder whether this is a ruse by BT to get people to move to their more expensive options or whether they are linking someone else's usage to my account.  Maybe this is a case for Watchdog?
Any advice on how I can verify this or prove my usage to BT would be really helpful please.
    Thanks,
    Jane

One way of checking your usage is by getting the upload/download information from your HomeHub and monitoring it on at least a daily basis. The following is an extract from another thread that you can read for further information.
    http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/Broadband-usage-OMG/m-p/434143#M16468
The process is not as difficult as it looks:
To monitor your usage with your HomeHub you first have to Login to your HomeHub.
There are various ways to get to your HomeHub but the simplest to describe is
    1. Start your Internet Browser (say Internet Explorer)
2Type 192.168.1.254 in the address bar and hit enter.
    3. If this is the first time you have done this you will be asked to change the default Admin password of the Hub.
       (Otherwise goto step 5)
The default Admin password is usually written on the Hub or supplied on a card or sticker supplied by BT.
NOTE this is Not the the wireless pin , or key, or password.
    4. Make sure you record the new password.
    5.  Now click on Settings
    6. You may be asked to type in your Admin Password.
    7. When logged in successfuly click Advanced Settings   (Top Right end of second row)
    8.  Click "Coninue to advanced settings"
9  Click Broadband  (Top left 2nd entry in second row)
    10.  The Internet  entry on the third row should already be selected but if not click it.
    11.   Under connection information  you should see someting like this
NOTE here that the data is recorded in GB (Gigabytes) not MB (Megabytes)
    12.   IF you want to monitor your usage in detail I suggest you record the following information
date and time of reading, connection time, data transmitted, data received
For convenience I copy parts of my previous post.
There are several things you need to bear in mind.
    1. BT usage is measured at midnight only and occasionally skips a night  so check the date also.
    2. The Home Hub measures usage seperately as up and down so you need to add the figures.
    3. The Home Hub reading is accurate at the time of accessing it but will not update unless you refresh the screen.
    4. The Home Hub reading measures from the last reconnection time so you need to check what the uptime of the connection is to ensure that a reconnection has not screwed up your reading.
    5. The result of all this is that you need to record the readings on at least a daily basis and compare the difference between the two corresponding readings.
    6. If you are experiencing unusual readings from the HomeHub you can monitor it on short periods of time (say hourly or less) and correlate with what is going on on connected devices.
    7. A list of connected devices can also be got from the HomeHUb.
    8. There are other ways of measuring usage per device but your case for proving to BT that their usage meter has got it wrong will be better served by using the advice above.
    9. In my experience I have found that the Home Hub and BT usage meter agree and to my knowledge there has been no posts in this community that have posted convincing evidence otherwise in the form of Home Hub readings and BT Usage monitor readings (or any other readings). There has been posts of new account problems that may have been valid but none for existing accounts.

  • Photo Stream upload rarely works

Most often than not, my photos that I place in my Upload folder rairly uplads to my devices.  I have tried numerous times the following:
Signed in and out of iCloud Control Panel
    Reintalled iCloud Control Panel
    Rebooted PC
    Rebooted Modem/Router
Turned on and off PhotoStream in iOS
Delted and added just 1 picture to upload folder
Other data uploads fine to iCloud (calendar, contacts, etc)  Just not photos.
This is very frustrating.  It has been like this since they added this feature to iOS.  Not sure what else to do.  Some times it works and other times it doesn't.  Running Windows 7.

    Hi...
Yes, photos deleted from your upload folder on the PC are not deleted from your Photo Stream.

  • Why is KTorrent so much slower?

    Good afternoon,
I was using KTorrent for quite a while and the downloads were partly very quick, but partly very lousy, concerning the rates. I once tried to open up the same torrent under µtorrent 1.6.0 (later 1.6.1), using WINE. The rates were partly 5 or 6 times as high (they grew from 4.5 kb or so to 50-70kb), with the same upload limitation.
So - how come? I notice a lot of seeders refusing sharing their files to people who use KTorrent as I was blocked very often. Can I avoid that in any way, as I would rather like to use KTorrent over µtorrent - KDE native over WINE emulated.
    Thanks in advance
    regards,
    cg

How did you noticed that you were blocked?
(I refer now to the german translation of ktorrent)
"Abgewiesen" = "Ja" doesnt mean that you are blocked, it just means that the other peer is too busy right now and your client shall try it later...
KTorrent is very fast here... Do you use upnp or do you have set the ports manually? I have forwarded the bittorrent ports from my router to my computers ip and entered them in ktorrent, and since then ktorrent flies...

  • How come I can't see my iPhoto library when uploading?

When I want to upload a photo to the internet, craigslist.org for instance. I click upload to browse for photo then go to my photos but the iPhoto library icon is grayed out. I know how to get around it by dragging the selected photos to my desktop then uploading those. It takes forever to open iphoto so i rarely open it, but all my pictures are in there and there is no other way to get to them other than opening them. Is there an easier way? Why?
    Thanks
    Charles

    Charles
With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.*
*Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS*
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
I've highlighted the one's that may be of most use to you.

  • How do I get a reliable upload monitor?

    Hi,
I'm a freelance television editor for several networks and corporate clients.
I regularly upload .wmv and Quicktime movies of my work to my iDisk for my clients to review.
Question: Is there any reliable upload monitor that shows me the progress AS it is happening? Before you answer that, please read on. There are two things I've tried that have not worked.
THE PROGRESS BAR is just not doing the trick. Unless I miss my guess, Apple really dropped the bar on this one. When I upload to my iDisk via the finder, the progress bar zooms all the way through to the end in five seconds or less - THEN it holds in that spinning barbershop pole for the rest of the upload. I'm sorry, but that is simply NOT a reliable way to tell how far your upload has gone, how far you have to go, whether or not your network connection has dropped, etc. Is there something in my settings somewhere to control how this progress bar acts?
THE ACTIVITY MONITOR has a Network Pane ... and there is an indication there of "Data Sent". However ... data sent SINCE WHEN? Midnight? The last hour? This last download? I have no idea, and I can't find anything in any manual or help document that explains "data sent" more fully.
Keep in mind, I rarely have problems uploading. It's very reliable, and eventually the progress bar goes away, indicating that the upload is complete.
However, when a client is on the phone wondering when the upload will be done so they can see it --- I have nothing to tell them! I don't know how far the upload's gone, when it will be done - my Mac is simply not providing me that information.
Does anyone know of a setting to change in my Mac to get this information when I upload? Or at te very least, a more reliable upload monitor that can give me an accurate progress report?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

    Klaus!
You get the bonus points without knowing it.
I know you said you missed the "iDisk" in my original post --- but based on what you came up with, I did some digging and it solved my problem. Incredibly easy, too.
Solution: Transmit DOES integrate seamless with iDisk. Here's how.
    Download and install Transmit.
The go into your System preferences, go to .Mac, then the Sync pane. Click the "Synchronize with .Mac button.
Scroll down. You'll see the option to synchronize your .Mac with Transmit favorites.
Click that button and then "Synchronize Now".
That's it. No need to enter confusing addresses or anything. Your iDisk now appears in the Favorites bar of Transmit.
From there it's just drag and drop into the Transmit window ... and my original progress monitor problem is solved!
Thank you so very much, Klaus! This is a problem that has frustrated me for more than a year!

  • Trouble uploading photos

    Hi,
I have only just moved to a mac a month or so ago and am having some trouble.
The computer does not like me uploading photos on either one of my cameras.. sometimes it works (rarely) but most time it freezes.
On image capture it comes up with 'waiting for device' and will stay like that. On iphoto it searches for them but never finds it, I end up having to force quit it. if i open it in finder they don't appear.
Like i said sometimes it works but only once in a blue moon. It seems like lately it doesn't work at all. and more often then not i have to turn the computer off by pressing and holding the button cos everthing has frozen up. If anyone can help me that would be great!!
    thanks
    Jess

    Hi Jess,
We need more details please. What kind of camera? How are you connecting the camera to the Mac? USB? A reader?
Try repairing disk permissions: Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.
Also, if you complete your profile it would help. I assume you are using an Intel based iMac, but which OS? 10.4.x 10.5.x ?? To view this information, click the Apple logo top left in your Desktop, then click; About This Mac. The information is displayed there.
Also, make sure you have sufficient disk space to upload images to. Right or control click your MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black arrow next to: General so it faces down. You will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% free disk space.
    Tuning Mac OS X Performance
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/performance.html
Run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) once a week and Repair Disk Permissions:
Launch Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.
*Tip... very important: Run Disk Utility BEFORE and AFTER all software updates. That will save you headaches

  • Flash upload form does not recognize foreign characters

i have a flash form which uploads multimedia files and submit
it to a java back-end along with other form fields. works for
english characters but when it submits foreign characters such as
chinese or spanish, the worlds are garbled on the other side. it
seems like flash default is not set to utf-8, has anyone ever had
seen this or had this problem before???

Thanks for the link. It didn't solve the issue on my mother in law's desktop, but it did contain a link to another solution for desktops (and for laptops not helped by the link you provided).
The link reads: "If you don't have a PC laptop or the steps above did not help, see this document for more information."
Essentially, putting the iPod into disc mode caused it to be recognized by XP and all was well.
Anyway, your help is much appreciated as it's particularly difficult for me to work in the Windows enviroment since I so rarely do it.

  • In the File perspective, edit FTP site properties, I often must check "Upload file on save".

For some reason, this particular property does not stay checked.  When I first start CF Builder, it is always unchecked.  Rarely, but occasionally, it will stop uploading on save while CF Builder is running.  I go to properties, and sure enough, the checkbox is unchecked.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior and hopefully found a solution?  Perhaps there is some config file that needs editing, or a folder or file permission that needs to be changed.

Well, a first thing I'd look into is what your podcast carrier is doing to your material.
MP3 compression artifacts are cumulative.  If I read your work flow correctly, you're downloading some material from the internet so that'll be MP3.  We can only guess how it was originated...it might have been recorded in MP3, transferred to a computer to editing, then saved again as MP3 so that's two codings and two sets of losses.
If you then download, Audition will convert the file to a form of wave for editing (necessary--since MP3 is frame based you can only do the most basic editing native to that format).  Save that to MP3 and that's a third MP3 coding,
Then comes the crunch.  Many host sites for podcasts take your material and re-encode it to an even lower/worse MP3 bit rate.  That gives a total of 4 MP3 codings...maybe more...with the last one likely at a pretty poor bit rate.  In my experience, each coding gets gradually worse until you hit a certain point then it's like going over a quality cliff.
If it sound good before you upload it, ask your hosting site what they're doing to your material.

  • I saved my raw images as jpeg but they are too large to upload to photbox? I have 475 images.

....what should the pixel width be?  The trouble is I dont know what size these images are going to be printed.  I know they want some images enlarged onto canvas so the4y will need to be a very good quality?
The workflow I was suggesting doesn't need you to specify pixel dimensions: you specify the print size, in inches or whatever measurement is required (but usually it is inches for prints), along with the appropriate ppi and LR will do the math for you and re-size the image so that the pixel dimensions fit those criteria. Doing that, even for reasonably large prints, should see the JPEG file sizes drop quite a bit I would imagine; I use a 16MP D7000, and when I use PhotoBox I often print at 12"x8" (300dpi), which usually means that LR has to do a fair bit of downsizing (maybe -25%) in order to fit that output size; even with a very detailed image (e.g. a landscape with a lot of fine detail such as tree branches, leaves, etc), I rarely go over 15MB with the JPEG (very different story for a TIFF of course!).
What camera are you using here? I'm intrigued.
I think it's rather unfortuate that you have no idea what sizes your photos will be printed at, and if I were you, I'd try to get that sorted out before uploading anything to PhotoBox. Speak with the couple, show them the pictures you have, and get them to select the sizes they want them to be printed at - maybe a default size for the majority might suffice, and then they can pick out the favourites for larger sizes/canvas prints, etc. Make a note of all the sizes PhotoBox offer and show them your list whilst they look through the photos on-screen. IMHO, if you're unsure of the final print size then you're going to be making compromises by going for a "generic" size and then relying on the PhotoBox staff to up/downsample the images on the fly, and you'll definetely be compromising the output sharpening that LR has to offer. I'd personally much rather send them a finished file that's ready to go, without the need for them to start messing around re-sizing it. But if you really can't establish an intended print size before uploading, then I think DJ_paige is spot-on with his advice - but it is a compromise.
On a side note, if you've gone to the trouble of processing these images in LR, then do make sure you turn off their "auto-enhancement" option in your account preferences. This is switched on by default for new accounts, and it will ruin all you hard work developing/processing your photos. I speak from experience: I use them every once in a while for prints, and they once mistakenly overlooked my "don't use auto-enhancement" preference setting - the photos I got were junk. Happily, they admitted their mistake when I complained and sent me a fresh set within 24-hours.

  • InDesign - need a "Fix my Corrupted File" Upload Service

There are frequently posts on the forum for people who have corrupted INDD files. This means lost work and frustrated InDesign users.
The Indesign team should offer a "Fix my File" upload link to its customers.
For each corrupted file, you will help a customer, and in the process, hopefully improve the overall stability of the product (which has issues) and benefit everyone...
Adobe: If you are afraid that you will be swamped with requests to "Fix my File", then you should probably just get out of the SW business now...

Zak Williamson wrote: "If the documents are fundamentally corrupt in some way, theres no way to repair them." and then later "As I mentioned to Casey, it's rarely possible to repair a truly corrupt document"
I definitely don't want this to sound like a flame or a whine, but I find that statement quite flabbergasting. Somebody at Adobe must understand the format of an InDesign file well enough to be able to edit out the specific element that is causing InDesign to complain about the document. I do file repair for another company (www.qsatoolworks.com) whose file format is probably more complex than an InDesign file. In over 10 years I've only had 1 or 2 files I could not repair at least to the point of recovering the textual data.
What led me to this forum is that a customer contacted me to help them recover an InDesign file. They just migrated from a PowerMac G4 with CS2 to a Mac Pro with CS3 and a few of their files won't open. ("ID may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.")
We have tried them on another Mac with CS2, and they won't open there either. "Something" must have gone wrong when the files were transferred to the new Mac.
(Naturally, the old hard drive has already been reformatted.)
Knowing what I do about file formats (but understanding that my knowledge is nearly worthless in an InDesign file) I have to assume an InDesign file contains an object map with pointers to the various objects in the document. The idea of telling the customer "your 32 page booklet is lost" when the problem could simply be a screwed up pointer is horrifying to me.
Here at QSA ToolWorks we charge $120/hour for recovery service, success or failure. We've saved lots of people from their own recklessness, and created a passionate user base in the process. We've made our product more reliable (and fixed some bugs) based on the knowledge gained through file repair; Adobe could do the same, but if they don't want to provide such a service, perhaps they should consider training third parties to do it.
I'd like to address one other comment above. Harbs wrote "I've been lead to believe that Adobe has utilities (which they use internally) to analyze and possibly fix corrupted files." Of course, I don't know whether Adobe has such utilities, but I suspect they don't. Because I can do Helix database repairs, people likewise assume I have "special utilities" that can fix corrupted files. (We've even been accused of keeping them secret so we can use file repair as a source of revenue!) I don't. What I do have is a deep understanding of the file format. Beyond that, a file editor and a couple of AppleScripts I wrote to display the object fields in a human-readable format are all the 'special' tools I have. If Adobe has any sort of tools for analyzing files, I suspect they are much the same. In other words, without extensive internal knowledge, they are worthless.
