Labview 8.20 Crash using vi's created with import dll wizard

Has anyone had issues with the DLL wizard or DLLs that use the USB port?
I have used the DLL import wizard to create an instrument driver for a picoscope 3424. When I run the Initaization.vi it exicutes properly, however, if I close the vi I get the Labview must be closed, send an error report to Microsoft blah, blah. If I disconnect the PicoScope (unplug the usb cable) then close the VI no error happens.
Once I received the Labview invstigate error and sent the data to NI (REF#7134654).
I had a driver written with LV 7.1.1 that worked with out any issue, I converted the 7.1.1 vi's to 8.20 and I no longer have the issue. This leads me to beleive that there may be a bug in the DLL wizard.

I'll try to answer your questions.
a) Yes that is correct, the source files are avaliable for download at http://www.picotech.com/software.html.
b) I have found some issues with the available settings in the DLL Import wizard, one is there is no availble choice for setting the parameter type to array. This is available when you right click on the CLN and select configure. I checked the configurations of the open unit and close unit nodes and they look the same. I have also noticed that the block diagrams created with the DLL Import wizard are very messy with overlaping wires and poor wire routing.
c) The original wrapper I created was done quickly and I only created the functions I needed at the time, I was attempting to create a proper Insturment Driver project and wanted all of the functions to be created, this is why I was using the import wizard.
I am still at a loss as to why disconnecting the instrument from the USB port prevents this crash from happening.
For now I have reverted to the 7.1.1 wrapper converted to 8.20 as I do not have time to continue investigating this issue.
Thank you for your response.

  • Does a client need Acrobat 9 Pro, to use a form created with the program?

Do you need to have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, in order to use and/or view forms and portfolios created with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro?
If so, is there a free version that I can direct clients to download, so that they will be able to use and or view documents I am creating with Acrobat 9 Pro?

Will the user be able to save the form with the data he/she entered?
That depends upon if the file is specially Reader enabled. For some forms Acrobat Standard or higher is needed to file and save form data.

  • Labview 2009 SP1 crashes when moving large selection with arrow key

If I select a lot (10 or 15) of Block Diagram components and try to move them some distance with the arrow key, I will frequently get a program crash.  Since a smaller number of components seems to crash after a longer travel distance, it looks like some kind of buffer overflow error.  I do not see this problem when using the mouse to move selections.
I have checked to be sure I have the latest video driver for my NVIDIA Quatro FX570.  I have also tried working with no hardware acceleration and no combined writes.  This is happening on Windows XP SP3 with all the current updates.
It has become so bad that I have to do a Save As every fifteen minutes to keep from losing data.
Why don't I use my mouse for all movements?  Because it is not as accurate and not so easy to restrict to one dimension of movement.   My hand is not as steady as it once was.
I hoping someone will have a suggestion that will clear up this problem.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As I indicated, I had the same problem with 8.5 and just DID a new installation of Labview 2009.
Since it is possible my three-monitor setup, which obviously requires more video memory, may be at the root of the problem, I am satisfied with the workaround of dragging the objects near their final destination and then using the arrow keys.
Three monitors are ideal for front panel, block diagram and Help/Internet/Probe Window.  When I had to work in the field with only one monitor, I felt severely handicapped.
You may consider the matter closed.
Thanks for attempting to duplicate the failure.

  • Using XML files created with PDF form in Excel

I have returned survey XML files created by a survey form using Lifecycle Designer. Have been unsuccessful in the importing of multiple XML files into Excel as a 2nd file just overlays the 1st file's data.
I have been reading a number of posts that most likely tells me that sending the PDF survey form out via e-mail and getting the returned XML file back via e-mail was not the best way to do it. Unfortunately it is what I have to deal with now, so two questions I have:
    1. Is there a known method for importing all of these XML files into any Office program more easily than what I have been dealing with, and
    2. What method would be best used if I have surveys to send out but have no web server or any other tool other than my local software on my PC for collecting and compiling the returned data?

Are you clicking the Send Email button while previewing the pdf form?
-> If yes, have you specified preview data on Form Properties panel?
-> If yes, does your form contain Table or repeatable subforms?
If all the above point are true, you will get multiple data in your xml.

  • Can't use Data type created with External Definition

    Hi,
In the repository, I would like to transport a very complexe DataType from one XI system to an other one. As I don't want to spend a week to create data types, I created a new External Definitions and loaded my XSD schema (that I exported as XSD from Source system) with Messages parameter set to "From All Available Global Elements". I don't set the "Source". I can see the "Imported Document" and "WSDL", but the Messages and External References tabs are empty. Furthermore, I can't use my new message type in a Outbound Asyncrhronous Message Interface.

Any one can help me please.
    Thanks, Davy

    Hello Moorthy,
My XSD is correct since it's XI itself that generated it from real Data Type on my source System (but I tested it in Internet Explorer and it looks fine).
I tried to select my ExternalDefinition as source in MessageMapping, but XI doesn't let me specify it (Apply button is disabled when I select my ExternalDefinition).
I'm pretty sure that it is related to the fact that I should have a Data Type in "Messages" and "External References" tabs and I have nothing. My XSD is legal, but it seems that XI can't automatically create the data type from it.
Do you have any other idea?
    Thanks, Davy

  • Help using the Bones tool with imported art

    Hi
I have a game design project that I have to animate characters for. The Bone tool in Flash seems like the perfect tool for the job!
Here's my problem: I can draw things in Flash and rig them with the Bone tool and animate them fine. However, I'm much more comfortable with Illustrator. But whenever I try to bring in external artwork, I get lots of errors.
Create (solid color, single object) body parts as layers in Illustrator. Import Illy file to stage in Flash. Drag bone tool across body. Body is highlighted but I can't connect the other objects. I realize the Armature is only above the body layer and all the other layers are on top. Drag Armature layer to top. Still no luck. The bone just doesn't care about the other objects.
This is my ideal workflow so I'd love it if anybody could tell me what I'm doing wrong here. Should I make all the elements into MovieClips? That hasn't worked when I've tried it. Should I import differently? Should I make the entire character into a movieclip and then rig the instance on the stage?
I'll be exporting it to PNGs at the end, so I don't need it to be robust down the line.
I get other errors with other importing methods too, but I can't recall them ("Can't connect...something" when using a PSD). But like I said: Illy to Flash is my ideal.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Brian,
There are two ways of dealing with bones. You can either connect bones to a single shape on a layer. Or you can connect bones to multiple movieclips. The bones will link the movieclips together and put them all on one layer if the movieclips are on different layers.
Shape cases are good to use if you wish to morph the shape during animation. This is really useful if you have simple shapes.
For more complex shapes (shape with lots of control points), it is best to convert them to movieclip.
You can read more about bone in the Adobe help docs:

  • To develop an VI to aquire data of thermocouples from a remote chamber in labVIEW real time, should use NIDAQ or NIDAQmx?

    Hai
I need to develop an VI to aquire data at real time. Am using LabVIEW RT as the OS and i need to know, if i can use NIDAQ 7.0 or should i use NIDAQmx? what is the diffrence between the two? is it just that NIDAQmx makes job simpler?
Also can anybody please tell me, how to access a channel in labVIEW? am not clear about the path to follow to get the physical channel as a virtual channel on the LabVIEW.
I am using a 8186 PXI with labVIEW RT and a SCXI, with both scxi and daq card on the same chassis.
the development will be done on Windows XP which will be the host machine.
Thanx in advance for any answers
    Arun

    Arun,
DAQmx is our new Data Acquisition driver and should be considered as the primary option when writing new applications because of supportability in the future.
DAQmx does make Data Acquisition tasks much simpler, abstracting many of the board implementation details and giving you a common API for 99% of the tasks you might want to accomplish.
There are a couple of minimum requirements for using DAQmx on LabVIEW Real Time:
    - You will need LabVIEW Real-Time 7.1 (or higher)
    - You will need DAQmx 7.2 (or higher)
These requirements are mentioned in the following Knowledgebase:
Is NI-DAQmx Supported in LabVIEW Real-Time?
The other thing you might want to make sure of is that DAQmx supports the DAQ hardware you already have or are planning to use. DAQmx does support most of the existing DAQ and SCXI hardware products, and reading thermocouples should become a very simple task.
With DAQmx you can use physical channels, Global Channels (Aliases for preconfigured physical channels, equivalent to the Traditional DAQ Virtual Channels) or DAQmx Tasks (Preconfigured Data Acquisition tasks that include channel, timing and triggering information). A good place to start to learn about these features could be:
    Advantages of NI-DAQmx
The following link might be useful to check Hardware support:
    http://www.ni.com/support/daq/versions.htm
The driver can be downloaded by following these links:
    ni.com -> Support -> Drivers and Updates -> Current Software Versions -> Multifunction DAQ -> NI-DAQ Version 7.3 for Windows 2000/NT/XP
This includes the latest version of DAQmx and our Traditional DAQ driver. Please note that DAQmx base is also listed but that's our Register-Level Programming (RLP) driver, which provides DAQ support for previously unsupported platforms.
    I hope this helps,
    Alejandro

  • Using ME57 to create an RFQ from multiple lines on multiple PRs

When using ME57 to create RFQs how can I select multiple line items from multiple purchase requisitions to turn into a single RFQ. If I select multiple lines and then use 'RFQ with Vendor', it only selects one line item.  After further research it appears that you can only create only line at a time (very time consuming).
If you use ME41 and create with reference to PR then you can not sort or filter columns to allow for easy consolidation.
Another forum recommended the following when using ME57 which works but it again adds extra steps to the process.
The whole process is as follows -
         1) When you are in the 'Assign and Process Purchase Requisition' screen, select related PR and then click on 'Without Vendor' icon to flag all PRs for RFQ processing.
         2) Select these PRs again and click further on 'Assignment Overview' icon (Shift and F5). The next screen will appear - Assign and Process requisitions - Overview of Assignments screen.
         3) Select the 'PReq' column and then click further on 'Process Assignment' icon (F2). The next screen will appear where you have to maintain the 'quotation deadline' information.
         4) Then click on 'Continue' icon (enter).
So is there any way to either 1) enable sorting of data in ME41 or 2) use ME57 to create one RFQ from multiple line items of multiple purchase requisitions when selecting 'RFQ with Vendor'.

What is the JPEG specs? What are the specs of the project you're working in?

This bapi will work when you try to copy invoice to the credit memo request..pass the billing document number in salesdocument parameter and pass the sales document type(CMR type) in documenttype.

  • Reader 11.0.07 does not display content of PDFs created with LiveCycle Designer ES 8.1

We use some PDFs created with LiveCycle Designer ES 8.1 which do not show any content when opened with Reader 11.0.07, only a blank display area or erratic copies of the screen behind it. Documents look fine in print preview though and also print correctly. Tried to change various security or display settings, no effect. Tried other machines, different hardware, different OS versions (Win7, Win8), same effect on every single device with 11.0.07 installed.
    Any ideas, anyone?!?

    Hi,
Not sure why you are resolving the node (??), also I would not be inclined to include a period in the object name (.), maybe this is why you are resolving the node.
Also I don't see in the script where you are calling the instanceManager, in order to use the addInstance method.
Having said that the problem may be in the File > Form Properties > Defaults tab:
Check that Preserve script changes is set to Automatic.
Lastly is the form Reader Enabled? It would need to be for users with Reader to save the changes, including new instances of a repeating element.

  • Post Create/Import Application Wizard Action

I'm fairly new to working with SCCM 2012 R2 so most of this will be pure ignorance.
I've had a fairly easy time learning how to craft my own forms and extensions using C# and xml. I'm even getting more and more comfortable using the Admin UI Console Editor; though the sheer amount of detail in that is a bit overwhelming trying to digest
    (Series of walkthroughs anyone?)
What I'm wondering is there a way and if so how do I link up a post wizard action to run after the standard create or import application wizard finishes.
Right now I already have a custom wizard that sends an existing application information including it's parent folder tree and it's deployments to our intranet document repository, But that's based on our Application Section in configuration manager organized
in the following way (All are folders obviously except the final item)
    Applications
    <Manufacturer/Publisher>
    <Product>
    <Version>
    <Actual Application>
I would like to fire up a follow up action to automatically create the folder structure based on the above information provided in the application wizard, and then move the application into its intended destination folder
I could add the logic into my custom documentation form but I would rather have it be something that happens when an application is created so it's one less thing our software packaging staff has to worry about.
Thanks in advance for any help and direction on this.

  • Using call library function on a dll file created in an old version of labview

So I'm trying to update an old labview program to work in labview 2012. Everything converted over just fine but labview will always crashoverwrote some while using a  library function in a DLL that was compiled using labview 8.5. Labview exits, stating that it vital memory area. It passes an array of data to the library call and an empty array for output. I thought I could get around this problem by changing my code to initialize the array being passed in so that it would be large enough to hold all the expected output. Now instead of overwritting areas of memory it shouldn't, I get a pop up message that says:
    fatal internal error
    memorymanager.cpp line 406
    8.5.1.f5
So it appears because I don't have the ability to recompile the DLL file it runs off of the 8.5 runtime instead of the more recent one. Is there any thing I can do about this?

    rjpierce wrote:
So I've been trying to figure out a way around this on my own while waiting on a response. From what I'm reading, a dll created in one version of the labview runtime can't be used by a different labview runtime. Am I correct in this? I feel like I must be mistaken since that's basically the opposite of how a dll should work. If nothing else works I have access to the original code for the DLL but it requires the control and simulation toolkit. I would like to avoid having to recompile the DLL since it was put in to a DLL to avoid the need for the toolkit to begin with.
Your problem most likely is that you try to pass native datatypes to the DLL function? That only can work if the caller and callee use the same LabVIEW runtime engine. Otherwise the memory block created in the memory manager of the caller will be accessed by the memory manager in the callee and bad things happen. Instead you should define the DLL function to use standard C datatypes (Pointer to C array) and also make sure to allocate the according buffer in the caller for all output array parameters.
An even more elegant way would be to completely abandon the DLL approach and call the according functions directly in LabVIEW. Then you won't have the problems about mismatched runtime engines. Passing C array pointers to a DLL is less performant than passing native datatypes, but if you use native datatypes you have to make sure the DLL is compiled in the same LabVIEW version as the one you call it from.
