LabVIEW 8.5 Executable on Windows System 7 64-bit

I have a program that uses the Vision RTE and LabVIEW 8.5.  The Program was written and compiled on a PC with Windows XP (32-bit).  A customer installed the program onto a PC with System 7 64-bit and is having problems running the program.
Is there a way out of this without upgrading LabVIEW and recompiling the program?
Thanks in advance...

@Peter_steier -
First off, you should create your own thead next time you have an issue.
Second, according to here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/B972242574D4BB99862575A7007520CB you would need AT LEAST LabVIEW 2009 SP1 as a minimum for Windows 7:
You did, however, mention you were doing development on the LabVIEW 8.5.1 application.  If you have the original files, they should open fine on any of the newer versions of LabVIEW.  As a result, you could rebuild the EXE for a newer version of the Runtime Engine as well.  Unfortunately this would mean that you need a new LabVIEW license to install on the newer Windows 7 or later PC.

  • Trouble using Port Out.vi as Labview 7.0 executable in Windows XP

I successfully used Port Out.vi to access the memory location for the parallel port using LabVIEW 7.0. However, I need this utility to work as part of a built application. When I created the executable, the cviVRXWrapper.dll seemed to execute, but gave me the an error, suggesting that the driver required for this operation was not running. What is this driver, why is it not part of the run-time engine, and how do I get it to load if the application builder installer doesn't take care of that automatically?

When you built the installer, did you click the Advanced button and check the Port I/O Support to be added?

  • Run jar-exe on windows systems.

Hi. I`m trying to find a way to run jar files on Windows systems. The key is to do so without having installed "explicity" the jre (1.5 or higher) sun installation program. I mean, I want to users be able to run my .jar executable programs on machines where jre isn`t set. I know how to create executable jar programs, but I have no idea about how to change Windows behaviour to instantiate the java virtual machine.
Help and comments wil be welcome, Thanks and regards.

Are you trying to run .jar executable on Windows system without JRE installed? Remember, executable jar file contains java classes and they need a JVM/JRE in order to run themselves.
In plain you cann't run a jar executable without jvm/jre installed.
Now, on another note, if you are trying to provide user the ability to run jar file without downloading/installing JRE, this forum entry might interest you:

    Greetings,
Most certainly, you should be able to use LabVIEW Executables on Windows Embedded Standard 7 that contain Vision VIs. The cRIO 9082 is a great example, for it uses WES7 and brings in GigE Camera support.

  • How do I programmatically remove a Windows system font with LabVIEW?

Is there a way to programmatically remove a Windows System Font?
    Thanks!

If you know the font name, you should be able to just use the Delete function. On NT, Win2K, the fonts are stored in the WINNT\Fonts folder. I think you'll have to have admin rights to delete files there.

  • Problem to run executable in windows 7 64.

I developed an application using labview 8.5. Created an executable from it.
In windows XP i installed the labview runtime engine 8.5 and visa runtime and my EXE worked fine.
Tried the same on windows 7 64 and my application hangs the PC, tried the latest visa runtime with no success.
I basically uses a serial port (com 1) to comunicate witha device.
Tried to run it as windows xp compatible, same problem.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the reply.
    Here is my setup:
the runtime for labview  -  LabVIEW85RuntimeEngineFull.exe
    the visa runtime - visa501runtime.exe
    and windows 7 64
The application was developed on labview 8.5
According to this URL (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/10383), the minimum versios of VISA is 4.6.
And checking your FAQ link i got this:
    Q. Can I run an executable built with LabVIEW 32-bit on a 64-bit PC?
    A. Windows can run 32-bit executables on a 64-bit PC. Therefore, the LabVIEW 32-bit Development System, Run-Time Engine, and executables can be run on Windows 64-bit.
I can send the file, its a stand alone executable, just click and run, no installation required.

I have created 2 databases in my computer. Both databases needs tablespaces created by a script. Tablespaces' datafiles (.dbf files) names are same for both database. Both database has it's own directory where it holds datafiles at the moment. At the moment the datafiles for Database1 are in folder something like "%ORACLE_HOME%"\oradata\%databasename1%\*.dbf, and second database has its datafiles in other folder, somewhere ""%ORACLE_HOME%"\oradata\%databasename1%\*.dbf". I want now the script to create tablespace called "INDX" with same datafile name "indx1.dbf" into both database. So into both mentioned folder the file "indx1.dbf" must be created by script. I think the script should do following:
    1. get ORACLE_HOME.
    2. connect to database "databasename1"
    3. EXECUTE IMMEDIATE "Create TableSpace INDX....file=%ORACLE_HOME% || databasename1 || indx1.dbf"
    4. connect to database "databasename2"
    5. EXECUTE IMMEDIATE "Create TableSpace INDX....file=%ORACLE_HOME% || databasename2 || indx1.dbf"I don't have Oracle database near by anymore, so the code was pseudocode.

    Hello Nicholas,
    Thank you for your suggestion.
But  i do not think it is really required to change P96 tnsnames.ora.
Because, T72 database is in a  Linnux box where several other DB are also there.
(Our landscape,NOn-PRD DB instances are together in 1 linux box)
DB13 jobs of other instances are working fine.
Only difference is T72 sap instace is a windows server where as other instances are in AIX.
In DB13c, windows system is configured as without ABAP server .
UNIX systems as With ABAP server.
All were working with this configuration till few days ago.
    Thank you.

  • When running labview's test executive I recieve runtime error: Call to step "PRE-RUN" failed. Could someone explain this error?

I have a set of vi's that work when run under labview. However, when calling these vi's from labview's test executive I recieve runtime error: Call to step "PRE-RUN" failed. in Assign Connector Pane.vi->Call Test.vi->Execute Pre-Run.vi->Test Executive. Could someone explain this error to me? (or ideally tell me how to fix it?) Thanks.

    Hello,
There are any number of possible causes to this problem. Which version of Test Executive are you using? Have you upgraded your Test Executive recently? The latest version is 5.1.1. If you have changed anything about Test Executive on your computer recently, I recommend you perform a mass compile of all your VI libraries, as having different versions of the VIs on your system could often result in the "Call to Step XYZ Failed" errors. Also, are you using any DAQ or Analysis VIs in your steps? We have seen problems where the use of DAQ or Analysis VIs in the sequence can cause intermittent "Call to Step...Failed" errors. There are some KnowledgeBase entries on our website that discuss this problem. Are you using the Test Executive in the VI environment, or
as an executable? Again, there are some problems with using Test Executive as an executable that result in these errors, and there are also KnowledgeBase entries that discuss these problems.
If you have a pared-down application that demonstrates the problem, feel free to send me your VIs and your .seq file and I will try to reproduce the problem.
Alternatively, I would suggest you visit www.ni.com/teststand to learn about TestStand, our state-of-the-art Test Sequencing software that completely outperforms Test Executive. It is very easy to use and much more powerful, and we have a top-notch support team available dedicated exclusively to supporting TestStand. As you are probably aware, we are no longer developing Test Executive, and instead are concentrating our efforts on making TestStand the penultimate solution for all our customers' test sequencing needs.
I appreciate your patience on this issue. Please let me know if I can offer further assistance.

  • LabVIEW 6.1 crash on Windows 98 while performing data acquisition

I've just updated my system from LabVIEW 6.02 to 6.1 on my notebook (DELL Latitude CPi-A). Since then, I have a lot of trouble to perform data acquistion.
In debug mode, it appeared that it performed well the first acquisition (AI-config _ AI-start _ AI-read _ AI-close). And then it crashes the computer at the second loop : have to hard-reboot.
    Any clue before I re-install LabVIEW 6.02 ????
    Thanks,
    Cyrille

    Thank for your answer.
Actually, I'm sure (99%) that Ni-DAQ works well, because the test panel works fine. And through LabVIEW, it made the first acquisition in debug mode.
Today, I came back with fresh mind and follow some "common issues" with graphic acceleration.
So, I turned off the graphic acceleration from the windows system performance. And since then, everything seems to work well.
But I would suggest to NI to look a bit deeper on those graphic acceleration compatibility issues because it is not the first time I have to turn off this MS windows feature. In previous cases, the error came when I was modifying a XY graph.

    Hello!
I am trying to create a windows system variable. I would like to know if this is possiblew with Labview version 6.1.

    Hi,
You probably have to add to the registry. "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment"
seems to be the place. I'm not sure if you need to reboot, nor if it works
at all. Please let us know.

  • InDesign crashes every time you double click to open an .indd file on Windows system

InDesign crashes every single time you double click to open an InDesign file and has done so since replacement of the original version of InDesign introduced in the Creative Cloud launch.  Does anyone else have this problem?  I'd say it was unique to my system if I hadn't experienced the issue repeatedly on several different systems now.  You have to relaunch InDesign which then opens the file from recovery, so it saw the file you tried to launch in the first place.  This leads me to believe the problem lies with the file association registry of InDesign inside Windows systems.  I find it unbelievable that this problem still exists and remains unreported and that a solution hasn't been implemented by Adobe to rectify the issue.
The double click is a fundamental tenant of opening files on a Windows system in the same way a single click is on a Mac.  Does InDesign crash ever time a Mac user clicks to open their files, I think not.
Anyone got any ideas other than the obvious which is Adobe actually got their figure out and fixed it.
    Cheers,
    Pat Doyle

    Hi Michael,
I'll give it a go.  Don't really like messing with the registry on Windows boxes.  Yes you can do it, but it can end up being a case of the operation was a success, but the patient died.
Just was rather hoping someone else had already experienced this problem and posted the registry tweak.  Didn't want spend hours reinventing the wheel.  Not because I'm lazy, but I have so many demands on my time that resolving a minor issue that effects me only seems like it should be pretty low priority.
The system I'm using is brand new, but the problem seems to have followed me regardless which may indicate that it is seated in my synchronization information somehow.  Really don't know how that could happen as I'm not an Adobe engineer or have the remotest idea where to even start looking.  So I think I'll mark your suggestion as the "Answer" and just learn to live with it.
Windows eh! Can't live with - can't live without it.  I'm sure Mac can be just as temperamental. Just have to chalk this one up as being just another ghost in the machine.
Thanks for all the advice you have kindly offered, much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Pat Doyle
