LABVIEW APPLICATION HANGS DUE TO INSUFICIENT MEMORY

I AM USING LABVIEW 7.1. I BUILD ONE APPLICATION. IN THAT APPLICATION I USED MSCOMM ACTIVEX FOR SERIAL COMMUNICATION TO MY PLC. ALSO I USED TOOLBAR , STATUS BAR ACTIVEX IN MY APPLICATION. IT WORKS OK. BUT AFTER SOME TIME SOFTWARE GET HANGS DUE TO INSUFFICIENT MEMORY. I FOUND THAT AFTER 3SECOND THAT EXE SIZE IN MEMORY GET INCREASED BY 4K. WHY DON'T KNOW. PLEASE TELL WHY MEMORY SIZED INCREASED.

How can we say why, without seeing your code ?
-Check if you open references and not closing them.
-Use "Performance and Memory" to see in which vi, the memory is increased

When trying to open LabVIEW, I get the following message, "LabVIEW Application Error: The instruction at address x referenced memory at address y. The memory could not be written."  I've disabled the startup services, clean boot or diagnostics startup, but I still get the message.  Any ideas as to why and how I fix it?  It seems to work fine on other machines.

The standrd next step is to
Start Control panels >>> add remove programs >>> NI ....
Select the repair option then stand by to feed the disks.

  • Essbase server is hanging due to BSO applications

    Hi All,
We upgraded from 9.3.1 to 9.3.3 in august and since then we are having issues. We have about 12 BSO applications, Size is 2GB each. After the upgrade when the users do some operations sucn as rerteval or outline edits etc the essbase hangs and we have to reboot to resolve this issue but after sometime (1 hour later) on performing the same operations it hangs again.
We initially thought it is the server problem, so we migrated all these 12 apps to 3 diferent servers and the other server also started hanging due to these apps. SO this solidifies that there is something wrong in these BSO applications...Any ideas????
    System info: Windows environment
    sever: windows server 2003
    hyp - 9.3.3
Oracle support also jumped in but could not resolve the issue.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!!!

Have a look on Essbase conf file
for netdelay and net recount try increaseing 1000 each and look for diffrence
Also look on avaiable RAM on server. Allot 2 gb per application
let say you have 12 app then 12*2=24 + 6 Gb i.e=30gb so better get 32gb
up to my understanding since ram seq goes 8 ,16, 32, 64
also look at your processor how many core have alloted

  • Labview application very runs poorly on better PC hardware

What could cause a Labview application to run extremely poorly when deployed to a new higher performance PC verus the 4 year old one at my desk?  I'm using an Intel Core Due 2 on my desktop (2 cores), whereas my application is being deployed to an Intel Xeon (4 cores).  I've tried running both the old LV8.6 version of the software and the newer LV2011 version, and both are crawling to the point the application cannot be used.  The GUI isn't updating at the 4x per second, the mouse pointer is extremely jumpy when moved around the screen, and tabs/menus take several seconds to a couple minutes to be responded by the application.  On my desktop PC, the application runs smooth using the same executable file.  Both have the same OS (32-bit XP SP3) and both are running the same anti-virus software.

    ExarK,
    - Can you supply additional information on what your application is doing?
    - Do you have the source code available with the LabVIEW Development Environment?  It sounds like LabVIEW is either hogging your resources (insert Wait functions into any loops you are running to periodically free up your processor) or that there is a memory leak (make sure you are closing your references correctly).
    - Try building one of our shipping examples to run with your DAQ device (a simple analog input will do).  See if this runs slowly on the target PC as well.

  • How do I embed bitmaps into a built (.exe) LabVIEW application?

I am trying to embedd bitmap images (icons) into the exe file of a built LabVIEW application. I tried it, and got them in a "data" folder. I want everything in the .exe file, you know, just like C/C++ or just about any other programming language.
If anyone has any tips, I would be grateful.
I know about embedding the images in the controls, but that is not my goal. I need images as files to be embedded, somehow, into the .exe. The reason is I am using the picture control to read the images, but they are static once they are read. If it is possible for the picture controls to somehow retrieve the images from some other source, that would work also.
Otherwise, if someone knows how to dynamicall
y embed bitmap or other images into buttons in an array, that would be useful as well.
    Thanks

Actually, many C and C++ programs, like LV itself have folders of data
that aren't linked into their code. But, if that is what you are
looking for, one pretty easy way is to load the images into memory and
place them into a 2D array of data, a string etc. Make an array of
these and make the value default. At runtime, you can now skip the file
I/O, or you can write the data to a temporary on launch and read them
    back whenever you like.

  • Illustrator CC 64-bit application hangs

I'm getting Illustrator CC application hangs on a win 7 system after opening up a file or even select a tool or path in files that were previously created in Ai CC, even hours before.
Also getting the following errors when a file has been finally opened after a several minutes:

  • How can I build a LabView application that uses the 2012 runtime, on a development system with LabView 2013 or 2014 installed?

I need to build a LabView application .exe to run with the 2012 Runtime, for legacy support. I currently have LabView 2013 installed on my development system, and have 2014 available. How can I build an application that uses the 2012 runtime on this development system? Do I have to downgrade to 2012? Thank you.

We have existing customers that have installed our application that was originally built with 2012 (provided by a contractor that is no longer available).  Due to IT regulations, it is far easier to update these customers by simply replacing the .exe file, than creating an install that their IT department must run.
If I have to downgrade to LabView 2012, where can I get the installation for this?

  • Passing strings to a LAbVIEW application from Visual-C++ using ActiveX

    Hello all,
I have built a LabVIEW application with ActiveX server enabled. I can
start the application, and can read and set simple control values like
    numerics.
But now I want to pass (SetControlValue) strings and read (GetControlValue) strings from controls.
After searching a whole day for examples or HowTos I found nothing. Can
anyone give me tip where I can find something about that?
    Examples are also appreciated.
    Best regards
    Heinrich Eidloth

The problem you are running into is that a BSTR is not a normal string (%s in the printf), but a wide character string (i.e., two bytes per character) string with the size stored in it. If the string contains ASCII characters, such as Hello World, then the one of the bytes per character is 0 (for example, 'H' would be 0x48 0x0).
When printf sees this, it thinks that it is a normal, null terminated string of "H". That is what you are seeing. You might try the %S (capital S) since that tells it the string is a wide character string.
Also note that BSTR's are part of the COM (Automation) system and so are don't freed with a delete or free() statement. Instead you need to release the memory with a SysFreeString() call.
If you aren't very familiar with C/C++, then you've taken on an advanced topic on top of a complicated language. If you can, you might want to try using either VB6 or .NET (C# or VB.NET). Those languages handle all of this for you automatically and you don't have to worry about freeing the memory.
If not, the book I started with to learn COM programming was this one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1572313498/104-3574382-6511132?v=glance&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v...).

  • I have been asked by my IT department how a LabVIEW application is secure

In general how does a standard LabVIEW application respond to these requirements:
The runtime environment shall not be susceptible to buffer overflows, SQL injection, LDAP and XPath injection, code injection or any other injection flaws. Malicious file execution and insecure direct object references shall be prevented at all times.

I know certain ActiveX actions that are deemed "security risks" will now generate errors in the LabVIEW Run Time Engine unless the registry of the host computer has been specifically modified to allow such ActiveX calls.
I guess my point is, NI does take some steps to prevent some issues at the run-time level regardless of how your code is written, so if that is the level <they> are concerned about, I would reach out to my local NI Field engineer and/or NI Customer Support and ask for help in how to answer <them>.
As Sam_Sharp pointed out, there are several things that are difficult/impossible for the RunTimeEngine to protect against, in any language.  If the author of the code does stupid things or deliberately has maliscious intent, there are many things they can do that is outside the bounds of an RTE.   In LabVIEW, some of the 'holes' in other languages are hard (impossible??) to do.  For example, you as a coder, do not have access to creating and manipulating pointers, so you can't create code that intentionally overwrites other [edit: memory-]sectors in the host machine memory.  So that would also be a case of where the run-time-engine (and its memory manager) plugs (or significantly shores up) things and makes it "safer".
The main security threats I see coming from the LV RTE engine is that there is no way the RTE can protect against malicious file removals, file hashing, injecting bad commands and/or data into network(s) and databases etc., beyond the protection offered by the OS (file/folder permissions) and IT infrastructure (firewalls, database query protections etc.).
Not sure any of that helps you out or not.. A dialoge with NI seems required for you, perhaps bring together reps' from both parties (NI field engineer and your IT people) so that they can get a line of communication going.

  • Random Application hangs having installed Mavericks 10.9.1

Having installed mavericks 9.1 just before Christmas I find various applications hang at random points. I list some of those happening since 28th December:
    Finder "Open With"
    Save As (in Powerpoiint)
    Save AS (in Grab)
Start Lightroom (get initial screen splash, lock the database but never get the Library screen up) Had this several times
    Start Elements 11
    On Opening USB memory stick
On inserting CF card into reader
    On Saving an Excel file
On loading a new page in Safari
    In Word on "save as"
In Word when highlighting a word (to make it bold)
In most cases (but not all) A Forced Quite leaves something in the running processes whiuch stops the application from starting again and stops me doing a clean shutdown (I have to do a power off and power on)
After a restart, most of the time the application will start up cleanly but on at least two occasions I have had to reinstall mavericks as I couldn't get to the main screen (although in both cases a Safe start came up OK.
I have done Disk checks on all disks with nothing showing.
I have Console running but I can't recognise anything in there as being a significant error, along with Activity Monitor.
I have also run Etrecheck and removed all startup items.
I am running on an 18BG Early 2008 mac pro which has never suffered from this type of problem before. The only applications which give any hang dumps are Microsoft (Office 2011) which have been duly sent off.
Can anybody suggest how to go about debugging this situation?

This is a very common problem with Mavericks and Mountain Lion. I had this issue so many times and many others probably did too. I went into Preferences-->Security&Privacy and select "Anywhere" under allow apps from.
If that doesn't work. You should repair disk permissions on your hard drive. There is a case where the files on the hard drive is not organized and therefore, the mac doesn't recognize it. Go into disk utility, select Macintosh HD or your mac partition, then press repair disk permissions. My macbook pro took 15 minutes for this disk repair process.

  • My application hangs after 10 hours in the serialport read sub-vi. Why?

My application is programmed under LabView 5.1.1 on a windows 2000 platform.
    I use a MOXA RS232 extending module with a B&B RS485- converter.
After 10 hours trouble-free working, the application, using semaphores, hangs in the serialport read sub-vi.
In the same constelation without RS485-converter, once the application hanged up in the serialport write sub-vi. After Restarting LabView I was still not able to access the serial port. So I had to restart the PC.

I am not sure, but it looks for me as some buffer overflow error.
Like you read or write something before it is ready.
Try to play with the lines like DTR and so on.

-blender/Automator running as a batch in the background
-web interface communicating with DRM to perform updates/selects.
The only way we are able to resolve this is by a windows server restart, even the console force stop/start does not work(console does not even start on an application hang)
We have the DRM server on a Windows 2003 Terminal server and our Database is Oracle 11g on a unix box. Though we have some timelag due to physical locations of these servers, The performance has been ok which was manageable.
Please let us know if there are any work arounds.
    Thanks

One thing I have observed was that the blender selections have a significant impact on its performance. If the blender has AllExcl\Val\Vefi selected under Hierarchy settings its takes more time eventually hanging up the system I think the performace is better when we have a selected property blend.
I deal with huge hierarchies like close 200,000 nodes per hierarchy, and working with MDM i have found out that using automator updates works more efficiently than a blender and we have automated all that stuff using batch scripts.
I also remember oracle running a fix for the blender issues we were having and haven't encountered it lately.
