LabVIEW Control of LCD Display

I'm trying find a LabVIEW.vi to control an LCD display ranging from 16x2 to 32x6 with a serial interface.  I just started using LabVIEW this summer and the LCD.vi's I've seen are above my comprehension.  If anyones had success with this I'd really appreciate the web address, item number and VI you used to drive it.  Thanks

Hi,
The VI's that you use are most likely going to depend on what LCD Display you are using, and what type of serial commands it expects.  If someone has coded them for your particular LCD Display, then this should be too tough.  If there isn't an API for it already, then you'll have to figure out what serial commands the LCD display is expecting.  Lets start by getting the actual model of the display screen.

  • LCD display using DAQ USB6008

    hello,
firstly, im stil new to LabVIEW actually...hope someone can help me out with my problem.
thanks a lot for those who willing to help..
im trying to use the DAQ USB6008 to simulate a 16 x 2 character LCD display.
    im using LabVIEW 8.5...
can anyone teach me how to simulate the LCD using LabVIEW and the DAQ USB6008 ?

The good news is that the 6008 has 12 digital lines so you don't have to work the data in two 4 bit operations. It also looks like the data is represented as ASCII. You will convert each character you want to display into a string and you can type cast that to a numeric. Wire that value to a digital DAQmx Write. Something like is shown below. It does not show the control lines. It looks like you would just need to add the signal to clock the data in.

  • Increase refresh rate of my LCD display

Hey hey hey. How can I increase the refresh rate available for my LCD display? Should I increase the refresh rate? I cannnot find where to change it.

There are different refresh rates that you can set, but I agree, 60 should be adquate. You can check this under Control Panel, Display, Settings, Then Click on Advanced, then Monitor. There you will see the refresh rate. Unclick the "Hide modes..." and you will see other rates which may not be able to be applied to your machine.

  • LCD display in reverse video, B&W, can't seem to reset

The LCD display on our PowerBook G4 kicks into reverse video, black & white, after a normal boot where we see regular colors, including the desktop for a moment. We have walked through all the possible display settings and can't find anyplace where we could accidentally put our settings to reverse video.
The fact that we can see normal colors until the end of the boot would indicate that nothing is physically wrong with our LCD panel.

Hi, Gaydpdx. Press the following key combination: Command-Option-Control-8.
Someone has inadvertently typed that key combination on your computer, invoking one of the display settings for visually-impaired users that are found in the Seeing tab of the Universal Access pane of System Preferences.

  • LCD display for Hardware Monitor?

    Hardware Monitor...
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/HardwareMonitor.html
...supports certain external, USB-based LCD displays for providing system status. Is anyone using one?
Can anyone recommend a nice, already-assembled unit to set on the desk here? Thanks.
    blakespot

Sadly none of the above unit will work w/ Hardware Monitor.
I just received this email from the author after inquiring about the above displays compatibility w/ Hardware Monitor:
Unfortunately, these vendors are completely unknown in Europe and
they only offer drivers for Windows, so no support for these modules
    is possible so far.
If not, is there a ready-made, external (already in a little
    enclosure) unit that does?
No, I am currently not aware of any ready-made units. Unfortunately
the market for these devices seems to be so small that no worldwide
vendor has established an industry standard yet, or could provide
an open software layer for Mac OS X. When such a solution exists, we
will immediately support it in Hardware Monitor.
For more information about LCD unit support please see the chapter
"Controlling external alphanumeric displays" in the reference manual
    of Hardware Monitor.

  • Tab control shows wrong display for selected tab

My computer crashed when I tried to post this earlier, so I apologize if the first post actually shows up.
I have seen this for years so it is nothing new, but I don't remember seeing it in any release notes (sorry if I missed it).
Upon loading the .vi (or as an executable), the .vi shows the wrong page for the selected tab.  After selecting a different tab, the control works fine.  Also, if you create a property node to read the tab value, it matches the displayed page....just the selected tab seems to be incorrect.
A work around is to select the default tab before saving the .vi, but why is this happening in the first place?

    Hi Stephen,
The erroneous tab display is something I see on most of not all of my code that uses a tab control (each is a typedef).
What change would I make the the typedef?  If I disconnect the tab from the typedef then I will loose the advantages of using the typederf...I will stick with the workaround like I have for the past 3+ years.
Isn't this a LabVIEW bug since the displayed tab is not equal to the value read from the control?  I have not tried it on this example I posted but in the past, writing to the control does not fix the displayed tab (writing the control may not work since I wrote the same value that LabVIEW thinks is the current value, but the displayed!=actual).
    Thanks,
    Todd

  • FPGA - RIO Evaluation Board - Using the LCD Display

I have the NI LabVIEW RIO Evaluation Board and am trying to find information on using the LCD display. Does anyone know of any documentation/app notes? Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the suggestions ramses64.
I failed to mention that I didn't install the software that came with the evaluation kit. The reason being, I already have LabVIEW and all the modules installed. I was not about to overwrite my perfectly good installation even if the instructions on the box tell me it is perfectly safe to do so.
If there are examples with the kit, then they are buried in an installer/cab file and not directly accessible by simply looking at the CD/DVD contents. I should install the evaluation software onto a virtual machine and see what is revealed.
I'll take a look at the LCD Module this evening and see if it provides any clues.
    Thanks!

  • Thank you Creative for wrecking my LCD Display on my Desk

I have just installed the new update to get rid of the screeching because I use 4GB of Ram. After installing the update for my soundcard I can't use the LCD Display and can't use the remote control to fire up my TV card, DVD Player or anything else that use the remote control as it is a multimedia PC.
So Thanks To Creative Labs for another botched job....
It works with the normal drivers that come with the disk, but the sound is crap as I need for 4GB for what I do for work. I think that this is the last straw now. I'm looking for a new Sound Card.

I don't deny there are issues. However a vague statement like "wrecking my LCD Display on my desktop"? That's a new one to me.
AFAIK the only way a _driver_ could wreck a monitor would be to change the refresh rate too high or resolution too high (and most monitors will recognize this and just turn themselves off.) Obviously the driver didn't "wreck" OP's LCD display because the display works when he installs the old driver.
"Wreck" is his word, not mine.
This is all assuming we're talking about his monitor, not something else....it isn't clear.
Unfortunately drivers have bugs, games have bugs, windows has bugs, graphic cards have bugs, CPU's have bugs... I could go on and on. Thats just the way it is with home computers and windows. Buy a Mac if you want _less_ issues but you still won't be safe...
    My 2 cents.

S0 ~ S5 are the various sleep states on a computer. This ranges from no sleep [fullly on=0]  to full sleep [ System off=5]. This is based on the Intel/Microsoft whitepaper describing the various states of ACPI. S=3 is supposed to be equivialant to "Suspend to Ram". So after suspend resume, max fan, until controlled by PC Alert in XP. Hope thats clear?

  • How do I use a LabView control element as ActiveX Control in another application?

I am was trying to include some simple ActiveX Controls(sliders, buttons) in my VBScript. It worked with other ActiveX Components from the web, however I wasn't able to include the LabView ActiveX Controls because I was missing the necessary IDs. Moreover I was able to test the LabView control by inserting it into the VC++- Test Container. But I still can't find the necessary IDs...

I don't believe that any of the LabVIEW controls (except for 3D Graphs) are ActiveX controls so I'm not sure what control you were able to insert into the VC++ container. What's the exact name of the control? NI does have ActiveX controls that are part of Measurment Studio so maybe it's one of those that you're using?

  • Creative MP3 Player (Microphoto) Blank LCD Display Scr

[size="">Hi, The LCD Display Screen on the Creative MP3 Player is blank. The blue background light will come on but nothing on the screen. I saw that it was suggested to update the firmware, however, I have no idea how to do that. If someone can explain to me how to do that I will try it. Or maybe you can suggest something else that I can do. I already tried several things suggested on your website, like removing the battery and installing it again, etc. I would appreciate it if someone would help me. Thanks!

  • Problem with LCD display on 17" iMac G4

The LCD display on my iMac went wacky on me yesterday. It's as though one of the three primary colors no longer works. The screen has a green tinge to it, and anything that's supposed to be black shows up as green. I've reset everything, run the Hardware Tools diagnostics (no problems found), and changed resloutions, monitor depth, and brightness levels many times. No luck. The screen is readable although very ugly.
Obviously I can take it to an Apple Store, but does anyone have any idea what it might be? I've searched the net and the forums and can't find anything close, but I know I can't be the only one to experience this problem. I called a mac repair shop a few minutes ago, and they said that the logic board would need to be replaced. I just can't believe that because nothing else is a problem.
    Please help. Thanks.
    17" iMac G4 1Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I "fixed" the problem a few days ago. Digging around here in the forums, I found another thread that gave explicit instructions on how to open the iMac and re-seat the connections. Here is the link (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=196785&start=30&tstart=30). It's a post from Androcles made on 3/26/06.
Just as he indicates, when I did this I found nothing to be loose at all, however upon putting it all back together, on the 2nd re-boot all was back to normal and still is. It's amazing how clear and crisp the screen is after suffering through the green hue for a few weeks...
Good luck, and feel free to ask me for help if necessary.

  • Mega865 - No LCD Display

I' have the problem describe in the "Important Threads - Things to know before (and after) building a Mega 865".
When I receive my Mega865, i tried it without processor and it seams works well. So I assemble it to work in PC mode and all is OK too.
Because I had the sound problem (no device found), I read the "Important Threads" and so I realise that my LCD display was not working too (i only use PC mode at this time).
I don't know if the two problems are in connection.
The sound problem disapear but I have still no Front Lcd Display.
I flashed the bios with the new version (1.3) and verified all the connectors that i could see.
What can I do more ? Is my MoBO dead ?
    Thanks for your answer.
    Vincent

i think it might have something to do with the proximity sensor and that sensor disables the phone functions when in call mode so that you do not accidentally press any other buttons.i think that it disables the touch screen when you put it close to your face.  once you hand up the phone, it returns to normal operations right?

  • About monitors and LCD displays

I want give you some directrices about the display sub system.
Like you all know there are CRT monitors and LCD displays.
    CRT
CRT monitors are based upon electron beams hitting Electroluminescent phosphorus. In these monitors the most important parameters are:
    1) Dot pitch
    2) Refresh rate
Dot pitch is the size of a single phosphorus point, smaller is better. Typical values range between 0.24 and 0.25. Beware with monitors having a not constant dot pitch, there are monitors with dot pitch of 0.24 at center of screen and 0.25 at the borders. I recommend monitors with constant dot pitch size across all screen.
Refresh rate is the number of times a single electron beam travels across the screen drawing a single frame (from left to right and top to bottom) each second. It is measured in Herz (Hz). Bigger is better. Typical values range between 60 Hz and 120 Hz and the value depends upon resolution, more resolution goes to less possible refresh rate. If you are going to play games with shutter glasses, make sure your monitor is capable of 120 Hz minimun at the playing resolution. In 3D Stereo, each full 3D frame must be drawn 60 times/second (60 Hz) but a 3D frame is a single right eye frame and a single left eye frame, 60 Hz for left frame and 60 Hz for right frame are the full 120 Hz. If you CRT is not capable of these 120 Hz your eyes will suffer fatigue / strain and you would have a great headache after prolonged time periods.
    LCD
A LCD display do not uses a electron beam to excite phosphorus and generate colored points, instead this it uses a grille and a special lamp. Instead drawing a frame line at line from top to bottom and left to right, it renders the frame in a step only and continuously, these displays are flat for this, there is no necesity for high voltage and magnetic fileds to move the electron beam. In these displays these are the more important parameters:
    1) Dot pitch
    2) Response time
    3) Number of colors (color space)
Dot pitch is the same as with CRTs
Reponse time is the time it gets going from pure white to pure black. Less is better. It is measured in miliseconds. Good typical values range about 16 ms. If you are going to use the LCD to play games, response time is the more important parameter at all.
Number of colors are the simultaneus colors in screen. It have a inverse relationship with response time. It is measured in million of colors or bits. 24 bits of color depth are 16.7 million of colors. Typical values range agout 16 / 16.7 millions. Greater is better. LCDs with 16 ms response time have, usually, 16.5 millions of colors.
Somethimes, the manufacturer will provide you drivers (setup or inf files) for your operating system. I recomend install this drivers. Don't panic if there are no drivers for your display device, Windows, probably, will find the suitable driver for your brand and model.
If you have a CRT and you are stuck at 60~85 Hz you will need the right driver because Windows would not have found a suitable driver from its drivers base and it chose a standard monitor driver.
If you have a LCD and you are stuck at 60 Hz, all is fine, as i have told you yet, LCD displays paint the screen continuously, you will not appreciate any flicker at 60 Hz in these devices. You can check this if you have a digital camera, make a photo of a CRT with a shutter of <monitor refresh rate> * 1.5. You will see a partially drawn picture. If you take a photo of a LCD with the same shutter rules you will get a full picture. With LCD you will get full pictures always, independently of the shutter.
I hope al this info will be helpful to you.

I have found a very interesting link on the Anandtech Web site about LCDs, it is a old one but i think it will be useful.
    The link is this
