Labview graph scale labels do not update

I am using XScale.NameLbl.Text and YScale.NameLbl.Text graph properties to programmatically change the labels on the X & Y axis. It seems to work when I run the subVI containing the graph, but when the subVI is placed in an application, they do not update based on the plot data that is selected to be plotted.

I think I understand your question. Your subvi has the waveform wired as an output. In the main vi that calls the subvi, you wire the output to a graph - correct? So you're looking for the graph properties in the subvi to be transfered to the main vi graph - correct?
If this is correct - it doesn't work that way. The waveform is just a cluster of t0, deltat, and the y array of data. None of the graphs properties are passed out of the subvi.
There are many ways to do what you're trying to do. You could wire the returned strings that you use for x and y labels as outputs of the subvi, then update the property node of the main vi graph. You could also pass a reference to the main vi graph to the subvi and make the x and y label changes to the main vi graph in
the subvi. I think the first option is probably easier.

  • Color labels do not update

I have a bunch of labled "yellow" photos. I go to where they are sorted. Then I start labeling some of them "green". The text message says they have been updated and the metadata for the picture shows it is green. But the count for the number of green photos remains 0 and if I go to the "green" sections there are no photos there.

    Try a couple of things:
    Click on Grid view icon.
In the folders panel, select the folder where your "Yellow" and "Green" labelled photos are.
At top right of filmstrip, turn off filters.
In the Find panel (at left of window) Check Text, and choose Metadata from drop-down list, select
"Contains Any" from Rule drop-down list. Type Yellow,Green in the search box, make sure you separate the words
using comma. The grid should now show your "Yellow" and "Green" flagged photos.
Try the similar search with Metadata browser:
Expand the Label section. Select Green, Yellow in turn. Select both Green and Yellow (shift-click to select
both). Keep an eye on the text at top left of Filmstrip: It will read as follows:
    "Metadata/Label/Green or Yellow/xxx photos/1 selected/filename of selected photo"
With "Green" or "Yellow" selected in Metadata Browser/Label, turn on the filters. The filter will filter the photos
already chosen in the Metadata panel. So, for example, if you have "Green" selected in Metadata/Label, clicking
"Yellow" filter, will show "No photos match the filter".
Hope this helps you to figure what your problem may be.

  • Category labels fail to update in column and bar charts

I originally posted this comment in another thread (Re: Category labels fail to update). I thought I should repost it, as the issue still exists after installing SP1 Fix Pack 2 (version 5.1.2.0), and it wasn't clear from the previous thread that the problem had been logged.
If you have a bar chart or stacked bar chart, the category labels do not update with the underlying data when you have the "Horizonal (Value) Axis Labels" box unchecked. Same effect with a column chart if the "Vertical (Value) Axis Labels" box is unchecked.
I'm getting around the problem in the meantime by keeping the box checked but changing the font size to zero, which reduces the labels to small dashes, and then using a font colour that matches the background as much as possible.
... by the way, another issue I see in this same area is that although there are separate checkboxes in charts for choosing whether to display titles and subtitles,  it is not possible to select just titles - both checkboxes appear to be locked together.
    - Peter

    Hi Tammy,
I didn't regard #2 as bug - in fact I thought it was helpful to be able to set the size to zero as a workaround to the problem outlined in #1.
Regarding #3, if this is by design, then I'd suggest that it's a poor design choice to have checkboxes next to both titles and subtitles, since this implies that they should be able to be separately controlled.
Something else I've noticed with this formatting area is that the position and offset controls are disabled, and there doesn't appear to be any way to use them.  It would be very helpful to be able to use these to move the position of chart titles.  In a dashboard I'm currently building, we have a large stack of charts sized very small, to attempt to resemble the 'sparkline' concept.  But the chart titles are so high, it's not clear which chart they refer to (they look like they might refer to the chart above it).   As a result, I've had to remove the chart titles and place independent labels over top of each chart to be able to position them closer to the chart's display area.

  • Category labels fail to update

    Hi,
I have two charts which which are updated via a web service they are set to update using a cell value trigger, a combo box is attached to the cell and when the value changes the data is refreshed, both charts update but the category labels on the second chart fails to update although the bar chart is refreshed and the legends show the new values that should be seen in the category labels. Why are the new values not reflected in the labels? If I point a single value control at the same data the value is updated!

  • LabVIEW 8.6.1 did not fix glaring Mixed Signal Graph bug :(

I'm pretty dissapointed that NI has JUST NOW released 8.6.1 (more than 6-months after releasing the buggiest LabVIEW version, ever).  The Mixed Signal Graph bug still exists and is very annoying.  The visual bug occures when you add more than 1 plot on a mixed signal graph and then try to resize the legend.  The Y-Axis labels do not move appropriatly.  You really can't resize the legend with this bug.
Where can I find a list of known bugs in LabVIEW and verify that this is in that list?  How can I add weight to this bug report so that NI will address it for the LabVIEW release?  How can I express to NI that I don't want LabVIEW 9 until they can fix all the problems in v8?

Not sure about the "buggiest version",  v2.5 had its share. Had to save your work every 1/2 hr. or risk loosing everything when you got the almost guaranteed "insane error" which always seemed to occure when you had done the most editing since your last save.

The OP obviously never had to work withLabVIEW versions prior to 5.1.
And while 8.6 had a few nagging bugs including visual ones it is actually quite stable and good. No comparison with 8.0 for instance or even 8.0.1

You just did! But unless you are a site with several 1000 LabVIEW licenses you will not outweigth those other customers who do have that many licenses and do want more features as soon as possible rather than an annoying graph display bug getting fixed.

  • Non monotonous graph scale /labview

    Hy,
Is it possible to plot a graph with a scale which is not monotonous ?
For example, my X scale should goes from 10 to 60 and come back to 10 (from the left to the right).
Indeed, the values of Y are different with the same X if it is on the way going or the way back.
    Thank you.

  • Graphs do not update when hidden

I have a tab control where each tab has a graph that is embedded inside of a typedef. When the program is executing and I change tabs, it takes a few seconds for the graph to update even though the data has been long posted. This would be ok, except when the program ends and I change to a tab, it does not update the control accordingly.
Why does this happen. Are there any solutions?

These pictures show the tab control. The graph and numeric control are a custom control on the tab page. During the test I use a reference to the custom control to read the numeric control and write to the graph using the value node. Probing this point shows the data being written to the value node but unless the particular page is open at the time it doesn't get written to the display. I even tried writing to the "value (signaling)" and using an event to write the data to a value node rather than a reference but it still doesn't update the display unless that tab is visible at the time.
The only way to do it seems to be putting a graph indicator on the tab and writing to that directly. It means a lot of recoding and a messier result :-(

  • INVERTING SCALE LABEL IN XY GRAPH

    Hi All
Is there any way to inverse the direction of scale label in xy graph?
If we duplicate Y scale and swap side then the scale label appears in different orientation in the y2 scale (compared to y1)
If y1's label is voltage1 and is appeared frm bottom 2 top then the label of y2 say,voltage2 appears from top to bottom.I want the two scale labels to be identically oriented. Is there any way to do that?
    Thanks in advance.

There is a very simple solution : create a free label (use the text tool) and place it over the scale label. A right click will let you choose the label orientation. That what I did on the attached front panel. Of course you'll choose the right back ground color !

  • Average Active Sessions graph not updated after restart

    Hi,
I just wanted to ask - I have restarted a database (11.1.0.7) with GC 11.1.0.1 but after the restart of the db the graphs on a performance tab are not updated. It means that the doesn't refresh and doesn't show actual data...
I checked jobs on the target database and GC repository but nothing is broken. Info on Home tab of the target DB is actual but not the graphs..
I also tried to clearstate and restart the agent but no change..
    Any idea?
    Thanks

This is a bug and can be solved by applying
Patch 10307099: PERFORMANCE CHARTS DO NOT UPDATE AFTER DATABASE IS RESTARTED
This patch is included in the july 2011 PSU: Grid Control Patch Set Update 11.1.0.1.4 for the Oracle Management Service, see MOS doc ID 1334286.1

Some plugins may need to be removed using the Control Panel, or Windows Explorer, because they are managed by other software or dropped in nonstandard folders. Can you list the three plugins so people can give specific advice on them?
For the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin you might need to update RealPlayer or use its options dialog to turn off the recording/downloading feature in order to remove this one.

  • Reciprocal Graph Scales

I'm trying to plot an XY Graph with one of the scales (x-axis) set to the reciprocal of a variable.  I can plot this by calculating the values within an array, however the scales (as would be expected) now show the reciprocated value (ie. 1/value).  I would like to plot the reciprocal values whilst still displaying the actual values, similarly to how mapping in log mode would show the value before taking it's logarithm.  Essentially I'm wondering if a reciprocal mapping mode can be generated, since the scale varies non-linearly.  I'm using LAbview V8.0.  Thanks.

Create a property node of the graph, select the Y Scale, and select the property Marker Values[]. With this property, you can set the markers any way you like it (the values are sorted automatically). Use the Flipped property to reverse the scale.
I am pretty sure if this will not work because "stel" wants labels that don't correspond to the underlying plotted data. For example, he wants to show a 10 where the value is actually 0.1, etc.
The proper solution would be to make your own graph in a picture indicator. Have a look at the example "XY Multi Plot.vi" as a starting point.
Unlike the scales of sliders, graph scales unfortunately don't support text labels (Now here's something that could be useful! ). Of course you could cheat, hide the graph axis and substitute a slider with only the axis shown. Now assign label/value pairs of e.g. "10"/0.1, "2"/0.5, etc.. as desired.
Align everything perfectly and make sure to disable "autoadjust scales" on the graph so things don't move around. See how far you get.

  • How can I add custom captions to a waveform graph scale?

I have an application that displays one or more signals in a WvfmGraph.  The X Axis is set by a hardware encoder giving signals vs. distance (measured length).  I would like to change the caption of the XScale according to the values of one of the signals.  Its similar to an XY graph, but differs in that I want to see the data unrolled.
The problem is that the X Axis scale markers are fixed.  I would like to ask the graph what is range property of the X Axis scale.  Then use that information and a derived position signal to replace the marker values with values from a derived signal that includes relative motion.
For example, measuring a unit 100 feet long results in measurements of 200 feet worth of data (out and back).  The customer would like to see this data unwrapped 0, 50, 100, 50, 0.
One alternative is to use an XY Graph, but the data on top of itself.  Not necessarily a bad thing, but not the same as what they have always had.
I found a similar post to display the scale at a rotation (CW or CCW) and was able to get it to work for my specific case.  The problem is that my picture marker values are not aligning nicely with the corresponding gridlines.

    Stephen,
Thanks for replying to my post.  XScale.Range does not handle this situation.  In "rigorous" terms, LV does the right thing with X axis scale markers and put them where you want.  I tried to set custom Marker values as: {0, 50, 100, 50, 0} and only saw the first three values.  My guess is that under the hood, the spacing is set to 'Arbitrary' and my custom values are overwritten.  Not what I intended, but I admit my task is not the normal use case.
Today I am prototyping the entire application with each WvfmGraph replaced with XYGraph's.  Good thing I used a modular design and passed Refnums around to all my subVI's.  Depending on a review of this prototype, I might skip this graph scale formatting.
FYI, the original graph issue wanted to rotate the marker labels CCW.  They hid the graphs XScale and used a custom picture to display the new scale.  There is a VI that formats an axis with custom labels, where the font, text, etc. can be customized.  I have a working example of that custom scale on a Wvfm graph.  I stopped refinement when I tried to consider use cases for how the user would zoom on the data, how the graph's label's would appear if the DAQ signal indicated that the part reversed on itself.  All the data is better visualized on an XY Graph.
p.s. are you one of the Waterloo Labs engineers?  Great stuff!

  • Labview Graph Palette Taking Outputs

    Hi,
is there any way to take the output of Labview Graph Palette i.e. when I zoom in can i access the minimum and maximum values of the zoomed in scales.
What I am trying to do is scanning a square and displaying data on an intensity graph. SoI wanted to add a feature which enables me to zoom in on the graph then take the values of the new scales and scan the zoomed in area again in the instrument.
    So, is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Yatin

In LV8.5 (not sure about 8.2) you get "scale change" events, so with an
event structure you get new ranges every time they change.
In <LV8.5 the only option is to poll the range properties of the graph.

    Wiebe.

  • GRAPH LEGEND LABELS NEED TO BE USER MODIFIABLE

GRAPH LEGEND LABELS NEED TO BE USER MODIFIABLE FOR DYNAMIC PARAM INPUT CONTROL
I've been told on Metalink that my problem can not be resolved in Reports 9i or 10G but a Internal enhancement request 3071917 has been logged.
Is it possible to have some timescales on this limitation?

I'd suggest that the easiest approach would be to add a trigger to the table:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER trigger_name
BEFORE UPDATE OF comment_txt ON table_name
    FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
      :new.last_updated_by := USER;
      :new.last_update_date := SYSDATE;
END;This trigger will only fire when the COMMENT_TXT field is being updated and will set the LAST_UPDATE... values accordingly. The only downside to this approach would be if you want to store the OBI user and not the DB user. Effectively, you'd need to pass a parameter from OBI to the trigger to use instead of USER - bit more tricky...
Going back to your suggested approach, I don't think you need to worry about the RPD; the SQL that you define in the XML will bypass the RPD completely. In terms of what to use for the criteria for the report, you should be able to select the OBI user from a session variable and reference SYSDATE, SYSTIMESTAMP or the OBI equivalent to get what you need.
