Labview hangs on exit after running VI with ActiveX

I have a vi with an ActiveX container which generates many events (30-50/sec). The events are serviced in queued mode. Among other things the ActiveX object polls internally for snapshot data from DSC Tags (rarely - only once per minute).
After the vi terminates there are two types of errors:
1. Labview can't close even though it is asked to from its main UI - it still resides as a process and is present in the task bar but there is no UI to it - something must be preventing it from closing.
2. After restarting, the VI hangs on the first call to the ActiveX object (create event queue)
Does anyone have an idea what can be happening? Can a large number of ActiveX events cause a problem resulting in Labview ins
tability? Are there any tools to find out what is causing it?
Thanks

One possibility is that it there is a very large number of unprocessed events in the queue when you stop the application, and it takes LV time to deallocate all the memory. I had this happen one due to control references that weren't geting closed. After running over night it could literally take LV over an hour to deallocate all the thousands of unclosed references left in memory.
Might be the same sort of thing going on. Watch LV's memory allocation in the Task Manager when you attempt to shut down and see if it is very large and then starts going down very slowly...

    Hello,
Do you use the Oracle Forms builtin WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT ?
If yes , take a look to : "IE7 windows opened and closed immediatly"
    http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Internet_Email/Web_Browsers/Internet_Explorer/Q_23304982.html
You can test the solution suggested :
We have found the setting that we needed, under the Internet Options
Security tab, if you select the internet zone, and click the custom level
button, then scroll down to the Downloads section, the first option is
Automatic prompting for file downloads, setting this to enable keeps IE 7
from interfering with this sort of download.

  • Mail and Safari hang on exit after recover from disk crash

    Hi,
I had recently a disk crash on my powerbook. Fortunately the disk gave me enough time to save a disk image of my home folder before it died. Now, I have a new disk in, reinstalled Tiger, updated to 10.4.4. (as I had on the dead disk), copied the home folder from the backup, and fortunately most things work fine.
I had a system CRASH, while doing the first Spotlight search. I had a second system CRASH, while working in mail. So, I cleared the mail cache. After that, I had no crash anymore and even mail is working fine, until I decide to quit. It then hangs and I have to Force Quit to exit. Similar things happens to Safari.
I tried several things, e.g. removed the Envelope Index, but it always hangs on exit.
Any ideas what is going on? I wouldn't like to clear mails totally and reimport and reconfigure the whole thing from scratch.
    Any help is welcome,
    Thomas

Just in case somebody else runs into such a problem, here is the solution to my puzzle:
For security reasons (I have a Powerbook and I was worrying about private data in case of a theft...) my mailboxes and any sensitive information is kept on a FileVault disk image of an account I'm usually not using. Instead the FileVault encrypted disk image is mounted in my home folder. To have Mail use the different location I've put symbolic links (ln -s from the terminal).
Now the problem was, that after my disk crash, some of the directories had been lost, so the links pointed to nowhere. I've got aware on this by looking on the Finder's info on that link. The "More info..." was busy all the time. This means that symbolic links (not aliases!) that point to nowhere are not correctly handled by the Finder and probably by other applications).
Creating the folders the links pointed to solved the problem!
    Nice to know!

  • LabVIEW exit after running DLL

I created a DLL using LabVIEW. I called this DLL in another VI, but after it executes this VI, the whole LabVIEW program exits. Can anyone pls help?

  • LabVIEW pegs CPU usage after running VIs

    Hey folks,
this is a general inquiry simply because I don't think I could explain (nor upload) all of the complex pieces of the code involved in the creation of the isue I'm having.  Long story short, I have several processes, the main proc calls up two others, there is some information exchanged between procs etc in the initialization process as expected, and there are also several errors that occur (still in the process of debugging it).  The problem occurs when the processes are exited.  All VIs stop running as they should, however something in the background (no visual prescence) has my CPU pegged at just under 100% and I have to kill LabVIEW in the task manager or wait for it to slowly respond to me telling it to quit/exit...
My question is, has anyone else ever had this issue? if so, could you point me in a direction that may help me find the culprit in my case?  I've had plenty of situations when I started VIs that wouldn't stop due to the loop conditions I ut in place, but in this case all VIs show to be stopped...
    Thanks for any ideas

you guys are quick! thanks for the help! (kudos to you!)
I don't see the data trace execution toolkit, but I think we have a lic for it... I'll have to download it.
    regard to altenbach's questions:
How does the main process call the others?
One is an async call (remote interface)- the other is call by ref (GUI).  When this first happened, I figured the one I called async was stuck running, but when I brought it up it was stopped...
How is information exchanged between processes?
Mostly by User events that are held in an individual api VI for each proc, very little is done via 'remote enqueue' (only the exit of the two sub proc's are done that way right now)
How does the quit/exit dialog look like?
There isnt a separate dialog, but the execution of the exit/quit button seems to go just fine, doesnt hang while pressed or anything.
    What is your LabVIEW version?
    2011
Are you opening an infinite number of references, trying to allocate an infinite amount of memory, or similar?
It may be that I'm opening a new ref each time... I'm gonna have to look into this.. thanks!
again thanks for all your help

  • AE CS3 hanging on exit on I7 system with 12 gigs ram

I've been running CS3 on a single core XP system fine up to now, but recently purchased an Win7 I7 system with 12 gigs of ram, and moved my CS3 suite to it.
On a new, clean install, on a new clean system, AE CS3 is always hanging when I exit the program, with no indication of what is wrong, or chance to do anything.  I just get a busy cursor that never goes away, and I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL it to get any options to terminate the program.
Wondering how I can fix that.  Keep in mind I'm on CS3, so please dont' suggest patches/updates intended for CS4.
If it's relevant, I am using OpenGL, and Render Mutiple Frames.... and I really hope I don't have to shut those off as a 'solution', as that would defeat the purpose of purchasing this new system.
Hope someone here can help.  Thanks...

Yes, it still hangs, every time I exit AfterEffects.  Didn't do this on the other system, but it happens every time on the new Win7 system.
Here's what Windows tells me when I CTRL+ALT+DEL it...

  • No accounts showed up after running reconcillatio with SAP HR adapter

    Good afternoon all,
I have an urgent question with the SAP HR adapter and I cannot resolve it for three days. You help will be greatly appreciated.
I configured SAP JCO 2.1.9 to work with IDM 8.1 SAP HR adapter. The "Test Configuration" button works on the first page of SAP HR Resource Wizard. After I ran a full reconcillation, IDM gave a status "Full reconcillation succeeded" with the following details:
    Users examined for claims 0
    Resource accounts claimed: 0
    Resource accounts discovered: 8578
    Native changes detected:
    Accounts added: 8578
    Accounts processed for reconcillation: 8578
    Correlation processing:
    Resource accounts fetched: 8578
    Accounts correlated with users: 8578
    Account state updates required: 8578
To see the account index for the accounts in each category, click a situation type below:
While the account index search returns nothing and listing accounts shows no accounts from SAP.
Would you please shed some lights on what might be wrong with my configuration? Thank you very much for your help.
    Sheng

Did you find any solution? I´m facing a similar problem: when I run the reconciliation in a few secons it ends and shows 0 for all kind of results (claims, discovered, fetched,...). In another instance it works fine so we configured this SAP resource in a similar way but doesn´t detect accounts.

  • Terminal - make it exit after running a command

I am looking for a way to exit terminal after executing a command.
I have tried this sort of thing
    Open Terminal.
    File -> Save As...
    Save as "My Command FIle"
Choose "Where". Desktop is easy to find. Move it later.....
Under "Execute this Command", put your command line in there.
    example
    ls -l >gj.out
    ls -l >gj.out; exit
    combinations of the above using different options under Terminal- Window Settings - Shell { Process, ..}
close on exit etc. have not worked for me.
I get the command to execute; however, it sits in terminal.
I need it to exit. ?

killall will kill every instance of Terminal running on the machine, not just the one that this script is running in. You might want to try as a test script:
    ps auxwwww | egrep $(echo $PPID)
which, hopefully will list the Terminal that the script is running in. Then you can use the PPID (Parent Process ID) as an argument to kill to kill only your instance of Terminal.

  • Problems with upgrading to imovie4 after running fine with imovie3

I have a friend who works with imovie 3. She has a iMac flat screen 800mhz with 512mb ram. She has made about nine movies using imovie3 and everything was working fine. She then tried to upgrade to iMovie4 (I know dont fix it if aint broke) and now her movies are all choppy, if you try to run the whole movie. It is fine however if you run a couple three frames at a time. It is almost like it gets overwelmed and starts and stops. We tried going back to imovie3 with no success (this was after a format/ reinstall of her osx 10.3).
I tried these movies on my machine (mac mini 1.5ghz with 512mb ram) using imovie 4 and they seem to run almost flawlessly). Can someone please shed some light on this as I am clueless on how to move forward.

  • Firefox 33 hangs on exit when running on MacOS X Yosemite. The same applies to Thunderbird 31.2.0.

This is happening on two separates machines, one being a iMac 21" (Mid 2011) the other a MacBook Pro 17" (Late 2011). This is happening since both machines were updated to MacOS X 10.10 (Yosemite).
I need to terminate a hanging instance of either Firefox or Thunderbird by selecting the 'Force Quit' functionality (right icon in Dock). Neither program can close itself, even when logging out the current user. I also tried running in safe mode in Firefox, no luck.
    Any ideas?

Thank you. Yes, I went through these steps, unfortunately with no luck.
Additionally it seems that the places.sqlite file is now corrupt for whatever reason. Removing my complete profile solves the problem, but that's not really an option, as rebuilding profiles isn't that straightforward.
This behavior has happened on separate installations with independent (non-synced) profiles, so I assume it is profile related in general.

  • Flash on site, after running, replace with clickable image

Hi, so i dropped a flash movie i made into a website i am
doing. it runs (still needs work cause the sound is now running at
a different pace than the movie! and i gotta turn off the looping)
but when it's done, it goes to blank. I need it to do this:
onload: run movie once only, then replace flash movie (in
same place) with clickable image to go to another page on the site.
can anyone guide me a bit? here is the page
    http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/chrisindex2.htm
    thanks in advance.
    Holly

On the last frame of your movie place the required still
image (converted to a movie clip with an instance name) , together
with a stop(); action to prevent the moving looping. On the same
timeline frame add the actionscript to respond to a click on the
    image movie clip, something like:
    this.instanceName.onRelease = function(){
    getURL("newPage.html", "_blank");
    }

  • LabView (8.2) hangs when using I/O operations with traditional NI-DAQ 7.4.4 after aborting LabView program

    Hello!
    We have the following problem:
LabView (8.2) hangs when using I/O operations with traditional NI-DAQ 7.4.4 after aborting LabView program
We freshly installed LabView 8.2 (2006) and NI-DAQ 7.4.4 on a PC running Windows XP (Service Pack 3). We built a larger vi that remotely controls a traditional NI-DAQ card (AT-AO-10) on a second PC via NI-VISA 5.0.3. We were successfully running this program until a power failure caused the first computer to crash. After this crash we were unable to start the program again: LabView freezes while loading the vi. LabView itself can be started but freezes when adding I/O operations from the NI-DAQ palette to a block diagram.
We have tried to re-install NI-DAQ 7.4.4, but it did not help. We then re-installed all NI software, but still no improvement. In the end we decided to reinstall ALL software, first Windows XP, then LabView and finally NI-DAQ 7.4.4. This worked. However, after a few days of running the program we had to abort LabView via Windows Task manager and afterward we again experienced the same problem as before: LabView freezes when loading the program.
Obviously, we cannot afford to reinstall Windows every time. Are there any known Windows XP / NI-DAQ issues that might cause the freezing of LabView? We would be very grateful for any idea.
    Best regards,
    Matthias

    Hello Sprice,
Browse the shipping examples according to “Directory Structure” and then select
DAQ to find the Traditional DAQ examples.
There a lot of examples that are written for counters (Counter >>
    daq-stc.llb >> Count Edges (DAQ-STC).vi).
What kind of signals are your photons creating?  Are they TTL compatible at a certain

  • VISA Write hangs after running OK for a while

VISA Write function (VISA abc W) in my VI runs OK, with a Return Count of 4, for a while (100's to 1000's of times)  then it hangs.  The Return Count from this function is then 0.  The Error In and Error Out show no errors.  Clicking HIGHLIGHT EXECUTION shows the output wires from the VISA Write as colored grey, while everything else has normal color.
Clicking the VI red ABORT button, or any of the sub VIs red ABORT buttons, fails to abort or reset the VI even after 20 minutes.  Task Manager will stop LabVIEW, but then LabVIEW will not start up again without shutting down and restarting the computer.  Changing to a different Windows XP computer and a different PCI-GPIB, NI-488.2  board, as well as reinstalling LabVIEW 7.0, or using a different LabVIEW 7.0 serial number, has not solved the problem.
    Thank you for your help.

Thanks for your reply.  Attached is a PowerPoint file that shows info on our computer and LabView, and a For Loop
(Slide 3) that runs the VIs addressing one of our instruments (Hart 1590 Super Thermometer).  Slide 4 shows the
block diagram that is pretty much as downloaded from National Instruments.  The block diagrams for each of the
colored sub VIs contains a sub VI having a VISA abc W function as shown in Slide 5.  The only places this VISA
function hangs is in inside the While Loop, inside the yellow Meas. Status. VI or the blue Read Meas. VI.  The
Meas. Status. VI sends "new", and  the Read Meas. VI sends "tem" to the Hart instrument.
Also attaced are the VIs for the Measurement Status and the Read Measurement.  In the course of trying to fix this
problem I've added various time delays of 50, 100 msec, up to 1 sec, thinking that the Hart needed more time to
respond before receiving another command; none of this improved the situation.  I added indicators and arrays to
capture the last several strings that were input to the VISA function, but I saw nothing unusual.  All I've been
able to determine is that the VISA abc W function hangs as described in my posted message.
