Labwindows/CVI 7.1 Remote user Interface using Enterprise Connectivity Toolkit

I have an application programmed in Labwindows/CVI 7.1 controlling an Electromagnetic Instrument.
Now am interested in extending its usability by adding remote user interface. The goal is to have the application available to be accessed
to remote users through website, with multiple users viewing it but one user controlling the instrument remotely at any given point.
Since the possible methods would be 1.ActiveX 2.TCP/IP 3.DLL
Which is the best technique to implement this with out having to manipulate much of my code also do we have any documentation available ?
Thank you

Hi Mutha,
This functionality was a part of the orignal Internet Toolkit for CVI.  However, the web server part of this was removed and isn't included in the Enterprise Connectivity Toolkit.  You might consider using LabVIEW with the Remote Front Panel feature.

  • LabWindows/CVI Remote User Interface

I have an application that I would like to modify to enable running the User Interface Panel from a remote
computer. I have found articles on doing this with LabView. Can this be accomplished using LabWindows/CVI 7.0/7.1 ?

    Hello Hornsbyr,
It is possible to have run remote front panels in LabWindows/CVI. First you would need the CVI Enterprise Connectivity Toolkit as an add on to 7.0 or 7.1. A web server is included in the Enterprise Connectivity Toolkit. By setting up and connecting to the web server, you will be able to monitor and control the operation of your front panel through a web browser. The INET_RegisterPanelAutoUpdate function is used to export a LabWindows/CVI user interface panel onto the Web. Once a client requests the image of the panel, the server periodically sends an updated image of the panel.
The image of the user interface is sent as a JPEG image, but as stated in the LabWindows/CVI Function Help, the JPEG will not include your UIR's menu bar, title bar or borders.
I have attached a document that further describes how to control your front panel remotely.

  • No Audio for Remote User when using Thunderbolt Display

I have the latest 13" macbook pro with a thunderbolt display. For the most part everything works fine, but I have encountered a problem when I try using facetime with this setup. The remote user cannot her my voice.
I have gone to the sound setting in system preferences and I have  made sure that the sound inpur device is set to Display Audio, and it appears that the microphone is working (the bars are fiickering when I talk), still, I cannot be heard by the remote.
I have tried to capture a movie with the display's camera and mic, and that works fine.
Unplugging the display an using the laptop only  also works fine.
I used the same setup with Skype, and the sound worked fine.
The probem appears to be with FacetTime and the Thunderbolt Display
Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

I am having the same issue with my 13" MB Pro Retina and my 27" ThunderBolt display.  So far I haven't been able to find a solution to the problem.

  • Re: Creating Graphical User Interface Using MIDP

You may want to have a look at the ItemStateListener interface.
"This interface is used by applications which need to receive events that indicate changes in the internal state of the interactive items within a Form screen."
To see an example, see the Currency Converter project from the Netbeans IDE.
Strangely, I installed the app on my Sony Ericsson K810i and it doesnt update automatically , I need to type the full amount and press Ok.
    Maybe it depends on devices.
    Hope this helped
    Cyril

This is a very general question, but as a general answer, different screen are commonly handled by using different pages on a tab control and programmatically switching between them (you hide the tabs themselves) or by using different VIs. Monitoring for user interaction is done by using an event structure which will allow you to execute code when a button has been pressed. There are quite a few examples in the example finder (Help>>Find Examples) and some templates (File>>New) for how to do this.
To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here, here and here are a few you can start with and here are some tutorial videos. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).

  • Can I build an user Interface using a proccess with Human Task?

    Hi,
I'm building an application, web application, with a several screens. The application just will be used for entering some data and depending on the data entered, some bpel process will be launched.
I'm thinking about implementing a MVC using a BPEL Process with Human Task. I mean: I'll make everything with bpel process (*including the application*). I would make a bpel process with some human task. This process would be like a Spring Webflow file or similar. Each screen wouldl be a human task but with synchronus nature. Will it be possible? Will it be so complicated? Is it usual?
Other way would be making a web application to enter data and then launch a proccess that will record the information in the database. That would be the normal way.
    Thank you so much.

    Hello,
There's a more powerfull solution you may use.
You can create a View. Some Views can be updatable (it means that it's possible to update
the Table from the View) and, you can add constraints (Primay Key) on a View.
    For instance:
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW {color:red}User2.view_name{color}
    ({color:red}col1{color}, {color:red}col2{color}
    UNIQUE RELY DISABLE NOVALIDATE,
    CONSTRAINT {color:red}pk_view{color}
PRIMARY KEY {color:red}col1{color}) RELY DISABLE NOVALIDATE
    ) AS
SELECT {color:red}col1{color},{color:red}col2{color} FROM {color:red}User1.Table1{color};This example is from the link bellow:
    Hope it can help.
    Best regards,

  • Using Labwindows CVI Version 10.0.1 USB communication with FTDI FT2232D to unit under test.

Communication with unit under test works fine in hypterminal after I downloaded virtual driver from FTDI site.
Never done any USB communication before in LabWindows CVI. What functions can I use in labwindows CVI?

Since the device presents itself as a COM port (pretty standard with the FTDI chips) you should be able to use the RS-232 library in CVI.  OpenComConfig() will open a connection to the device, ComWrt() will write data to it, and the various ComRd() functions can be used to read the responses back.

  • Use networked Users.ini in deployed simple user interface

I'm using the  Simple LabVIEW UI that comes with TestStand 2014. I have customised it to my requirements, but have a small issue. I want to deploy the interface to numerous production PC's but cannot workout how to get the interface to use a networked Users.ini, at Login on those PC's. Does anyone know how to make the user interface use a networked Users.ini? I know that in TestStand 2014 you can use the menus Configure>Station Options>User Manager to tell it where to find a networked Users.ini. I don't know how to make the Simple LabVIEW UI do the same thing. Hopefully I've missed something obvious and will soon be felling rather stupid.
    Thanks
    Colin

    Colin,
This setting is stored in TestExec.ini.  You can deploy this by following this link: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/E5E4FEADEFE6023D862571590000C5CC
    Here's another link:http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/370052N-01/tsdeploysystem/infotopics/includingcfgfiles/
TestExec.ini is just 1 of many cfg files for TestStand.  They all need to be in the same folder.  Generally the ProgramData\National Instruments\<TestStand>\Cfg folder.  The exception is Users.ini.  It is the only cfg file that can be in a different location (as you have discovered)
So I recommend pointing to the users.ini on your development machine and then adding TestExec.ini to your workspace.  Then you need ot put it in the Cfg directory on the deployment machine.  Be careful though because there are a lot of other settings stored in that file.
    Hope this helps,

  • Drive VXI-MIO-64E-1 in LabWindows/CVI

    I'm integrating a VXI system based NI's VXI-1394 controller in which VXI-MIO-64E-1
was used. My develop envirenment is LabWindows/CVI 5.01. When I use the MIO
card to sample a waveform, the only length of the waveform I can sample is
2048Sa. Then, I insert 2 SIMM with size of 8MB to the MIO card, but it is
    useless.
How can I configure and use the onboard Mem of VXI-MIO-64E-1? Could you give
    a sample program in CVI?
    Thank you very much!

    Hello Vishnu,
Unfortunately, the VXI-DAQ cards are no longer supported, but you can find information about using them in the manual.  The VXI-MIO Series User Manual  has details about setting the input range in Chapter 3 on page 3-4.
    Good luck with your application!

  • A more successful experiment in creating compositable user interfaces for Config Dialogs

A couple weeks ago I posted an experiment in creating compositable user interfaces using transparent subpanels. The approach might best be described as, "It at least was notable for being novel."
Today, I'm posting another attempt, this one along more traditional lines, and far more successful. Particularly notable: this one can do all the arbitrary composition of the last one AND it solves the TAB order problem.
This solution uses a picture control and renders N copies of a control. When the user tabs to a control or moves the mouse over the control, a real control slides into that position to be able to catch the events (update mouse over draw state, highlight for keyboard focus, handle typing, etc). When the Value Change occurs, a master array of data is updated and the picture control is updated.
This is something that has been attempted in various forms in the past, but there are two aspects of this particular implementation that make it nice:
its programmatic interface for specifying the behavior of the various objects should make it fairly easy for a user of the framework to programmatically generate their dialogs
it handles the TAB problem without flickering, something I haven't seen in other attemps
This idea spawns out of conversation about the previous experiment -- thanks to those of you who posted on various forums, e-mailed me, or, in a couple cases, showed up at my desk. That last one is not something I'm encouraging unless you work at NI... just saying. :-)
Now, this experiement has already yeilded some interesting conversation. We note that as long as controls are instantiated independent of each other -- that is, no property of one control depends upon the property of another control -- this dialog system scales nicely. But in this experiment, I implemented Radio Buttons, which interact with each other -- when one is set True, the others go False. As soon as controls start interacting with each other (such as graying out one control when a checkbox is toggled, or having expandable sections, or really complex cases like updating a graph as some options change, like happens in some Express VI config dialogs) then we start needing ways to refer to the other controls. This rapidly moves us in one of two directions: naming controls or creating references. The naming approach is definitely my preference as it fits better with dataflow and I can do some interesting effects with breaking apart some of the tree. But all of this quickly starts sounding like "Please implement a XAML parser in LabVIEW." For those of you unfamiliar with XAML, in the world of UI design, it might very well be the coolest thing since sliced bread. A XAML string would indeed fit with dataflow, and we could start building that up. I hesitate to head down this road for two reasons. One, as many have noted, there's really not a good XML parsing library written in LabVIEW that can give me a useful DOM tree. Two, that's a huge project and my gut sense is that you'd have to complete a fairly large chunk of it before you'd start seeing any return on investment. But it is worth thinking about -- I might be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. This code that I've posted today can at least get you started on the generation side if one of you decides to become industrious.
I'm turning my attention away from this project for now... coding in G is lots of fun, and I wish I could spend more days doing it, but this has been a side project and it's time to get back to my assigned projects in text programming. Building a powerful platform for automatic UI generation in LabVIEW would be really useful -- I see lots of requests for this sort of thing, and other languages are pulling ahead of us in this domain.
[UPDATE 5/17/2012 - There is an improved version.]
    Solved!

Thanks for posting this Aristos.  I would normally be one of those to go bug you at your desk, but in case I'm not the only one with this question... which particular flickering problem are you referring to?  The act of switching tabs?  In all honesty, I've never noticed...
When you move controls around on the screen, normally you try to Defer Panel Updates while you do that. But Defer Panel Updates has an effect on control's abilities to catch certain mouse clicks, so when you're trying to move a control to catch the mouse, you have to work a lot without Defer Panel Updates, so if you're adjusting captions, etc, to match the new location, you can see flicker as properties adjust. You can move the control off-screen, as long as you have already updated the picture control to reflect the changes. It took a while to catch all the ways that the flickering can crop up. I think I got 'em all.
Attached are the VIs saved for LV 2009. Actually, they're saved for LV 8.6, but it doesn't work in 8.6 because of a bug in the picture control that existed back then.

  • Issue in the user interface of ICSS application

    Hi Experts,
Please find the below description of the issue.
Ours is a migration project of ICSS application from one landscape to another landscape. Both the landscapes are in CRM 7.0 with the same patch levels.
For this migration we have copied the existing track A to the new track B and mapped to the new CRM 7.0 B system.
The XCM setting has maintained in the new B system exactly the same way like the A system
All the related backend code like FMs, Data Dictionary objects etc in CRM 7.0 A system has been moved to the CRM 7.0 B System.
After this when we tried to run the application B, we are not seeing the same user interface like in application A.
We are seeing only black font with white background. The color combination, fonts, styles etc like in application A are not visible in application B.
There are no CSS files in the XCM settings in A system. So I have also not maintained in B system.
We have not done any changes in the track. So we have not deployed the application.
I have created the projects for both the tracks A and B and compared the code manually. Everything is same.
      Question:
Please let me know what needs to be done additionally to get the same user interface.
Is Shopadmin settings has to be maintained. Is this mandatory.
       Thanks in advance.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Raghu

    Hello Waldemar,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments. I would like to apologize for the delay in responding to your support request. We have been on holiday for the past few days due to Thanksgiving.
From the information you have provided here, it sounds like you are on the right track with getting your application up and running with a chinese font interface. I would like to point out an extremely helpful KnowledgeBase that you might use for reference now and any other time you need to localize your user interface:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/5987FCAFE3FBE8B98625693B0052EBD9?OpenDocument
(This KB was written for LabVIEW 6.0, but is still relevant for LabVIEW 7.0.) Based on this document, you only need "an MBCS-enabled operating s
ystem with an IME for the corresponding language." All 32-bit Windows operating systems are MBCS-enabled. Please see these links from the Microsoft website for more information:
    http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?View=msdn&st=a&qu=mbcs&c=4&s=2
You may also find this tutorial describing localization procedures useful:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/2d17d611efb58b22862567a9006ffe76/6d94f90fc9b93aad862568a7007cd4c0?OpenDocument
I would recommend that you go ahead and install the Chinese fonts to your OS (if you have not already), and develop your user interface using the new font. This application should have no problem on any other machine with the Chinese font enabled.
I hope this helps! Let me know if there is anything else I can help with or clarify. Have a great day!
