Lack of consistency between folders in Elements 11 Organizer and Finder (mac). Why?

I use Elements 11 Organizer and Photoshop Elements Editor on a mac (OS X 10.8.2).
I experience problems after I made some changes in the Image-folder on the mac and after moving/deleting folders directly in Elements Organizer. Now there are noe consistency between folders/files visible in Finder/Pictures and in My Folders in Elements Organizer.
One example: Directly in Finder, I created a new folder and moved pictures from two folders which I then deleted. In Elements Organizer, I still see the old structure (no new folder - still the deleted folders included the picture files).
I also experience folders in Elements Organizer that should not exist. When I right click on the folder, the options "Reveal in Finder", "Rename Folder" and "Delete folder" are greyed out and not clickable.
I have tried to refresh Elements Organizer, close it and restart the mac - nothing helps.
Can anyone please help me?

Not sure if you have used the 'My Folders' or 'Show folder list' in the left folder panel ? Those two ways to display and work with folders must be understood before doing experiments, especially if you use Finder/Explorer to control results. You need to give more details on your procedure to make things clear.
See the video about the 'New UI' in the welcome screen.
And of course, Barbara is right about giving the priority to managing media files by tags albums and dedicated organizer tools.

  • Adobe Elements 11 Organizer and Importing images from camera.

I changed Adobe Elements version (from 10 to 11) and Brand New all-in-one Dell XPS computer that comes with Windows 8 as OS (From XP SP3) ... Now my import in Adobe Organzer gets stuck.   Adobe Elements sees the camera, and compares the files on my camera to the photos in Organizer and knows how may are duplicates.   I then select all the photos it finds as Non-Duplicates and tell it what directory to import into and select (Finish/Import) and it just sits there.  I can change anything on that screen for options, but it really is locked up.   I have to use Task Manager to end the task so that I can get back into Adobe Organizer.    Maybe there is some kind of incompatibility with Windows 8 I am not aware of?

As you said "I am using this method as a bandaid, but this method will constantly copy all files (including old photos still on card) to a new folder.  This means that I have the same photo being copied from my cameras memory to multiple locations.  Not the best method (lots of clutter). "
This is not so. Importing photos using Watched Folders doesn't copy your photos to any other location.
Please empty your card and add 1-2 images to it. Now launch Photodownloader.exe from the location : C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer
Post doing this, launch Organizer. Let's see if the import happens.
    Thanks

  • Elements 10 Organizer keeps shutting down - why?

I have using PSE 6 succesfully on my computer for about 4 years.  I recently downloaded the trial version of PSE 10, but it never worked properly and the Organizer would close down aftre about 1 minute, so I never bothered with it.  I have now purchased the software on DVD and the same thing is happening.  I open the Organizer, it loads up with all my pictures (about 14,500) and then after about 60-90 seconds I get a grey pop-up box saying "Elements 10 Organizer has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for any inconvenience.  Please tell Microsoft about this problem...." and sends a report.
I'm not techie, and the report content means nothing to me.
I've tried uninstall/reinstall and that hasn't helped and I've read numerous Forum topics but cannot find one that matches this.  Any help would be gratefully received, thanks.  Simon.

I just installed PSE10 and ran into the same problem with Organizer after setting up a catalog by importing pictures from six years' worth of photo files and folders. It turns out one of the imported files was corrupted in the import process and was given a year of 2098. Organizer kept shutting down after about less than 30 seconds every time I opened it, and I couldn't delete the corrupted file. I also uninstalled and reinstalled PSE10 a few times. Finally, I discovered the Catalog Manager feature (hold down the "shift" key while starting Organizer). In Catalog Manager, I moved the catalog I had created from being accessible by everyone to being accessible to only me. Voila! I was then able to open Organizer without it shutting down. Then I used Organizer to properly convert my previous catalog created in Photoshop Album 2.0 into Organizer. And I got my entire catalog in less time than the method I had been using. Now, however, I have a problem in trying to delete the catalog with the corrupted file. When I use Catalog Manager to remove it, I get an error message saying the catalog is being used by "another program." I can't figure out which other program that is. I'll have to keep playing with Organizer until I figure that one out.

  • Sharing files between a Windows Vista Business edition and a Mac osx 10.6.6

Is there reliable information somewhere about how to share files from a Windows Vista business edition pc to a Mac osx 10.6.6?  I have googled instructions and followed the steps and still could not have sharing to happen between the Vista pc and the Mac.  These are the steps I have performed, I have made sure that
o Both the Vista pc and the Mac have the same user account/password.
o The firewall from the Vista side allows file and printer sharing in the exceptions.
o Enabled sharing with a few directories on the Vista pc.
o Changed the security policy on the Vista pc to "LM and NTLM - use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated".
o On the Mac System Preferences > Sharing selected File sharing.
On the Windows Vista pc, if I click the Start menu and then Network, the Mac does not appear.  On the Mac, from the Finder menu if I click Go > Connect to server and request a connection to the IP address of that Vista pc, I get an error, "Connection Failed"  (could not find pc or not available at this time).
    What else do I need?

That was a great tutorial / walk through.
In fact, I would say that was far easier than the entrophy route (which is good) as you can see exactly what you are doing rather than relying on an installer which has often failed in the past for me, and then just suddenly worked for no apparent reason!
Just two things to improve it for other users, and they are really VERY minor... From previous experience, I knew where to find the php.ini.default file, but you don't let people know where to find that, and the links to the MySQL downloads were broken. I guess that is because the file names have changed or because I am coming at it from a different country. I got a message stating: 'That file does not exist on our download mirrors.'
Thanks for doing that, I really appreciate you (and the likes of David Powers) taking the time to set these tutorials up for others to use.

  • Hello, i'm trying to email pictures from my photoshop elements 11 organizer and once i submit, i dont get the pics i n my inbox...

hello, i'm trying to email pictures from my photoshop elements 11 organizer, however once i submit for the pictures to send, the person is not receiving them?  any guidance?
    thanks,
    Rob

    Hi,
Which operating system are you running on?
In the organizer, go to the Edit menu and select Preferences -> Sharing. Which email client are you using - Adobe Email Client?
What type of file are you trying to send - JPG, raw?
What is the size of the file?
An alternative way to share files would be to use something like Dropbox. You can upload the file to a dropbox and then give the other person the link so they can download it.

  • How copy Mac Elements 9 Organizer album to Mac iDVD?

I have an album in Mac Elements 9 Organizer that I want to get into iDVD so I can burn a DVD. I do not want to buy Premier Elements. Is there a way I can do this w/o buying Premier and w/o exporting the album to iPhoto, as I do not care for that app.

You will have to either find all the photos individually from the finder, or open them all into the editor, create a folder so you can keep them together, and do a Save As to put copies into the folder. In the latest couple of versions of PSE you could use the Export command in the organizer, but this isn't in PSE 9. Then open the photos into iDVD to make your slideshow.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer does not load- why?

I just installed Elements 12 on a machine running Windows 8.1.  Organizer will not load no matter what I do.  How do I make this program work?

    Hi,
Unless you overrode the defaults when installing PSE 10 and PSE 12, that shouldn't be the problem. I have installed PSE 11 and then PSE 12 on my Windows 8 system. My Windows 7 is running versions 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 all quite happily.
Since you say the problem started in PSE 10, I am suspecting a problem with your catalog - more later.
When you load the editor, go to the Help menu - have you completed the Adobe Id Profile? Is there a Sign in or a Sign out option? - The Sign out would indicate that you are already signed in. Is this the sign in that freezes on your system?
Now, back to a possible catalog problem. Try holding down the shift key when you select organizer from the welcome screen and keep it held down until the organizer loads. It should take you to the Catalog Manager - now release the shift key. Click on the New button to create a new, empty catalog and give it a name like Test Temp. If the organizer still fails to load the problem is probably to do with the installation. If the new catalog allows the organizer to load then we will have to try and repair your catalog.

  • Elements 11 Organizer and Editor not working together (Mac)

Is there a way to get the organizer that comes with Adobe Premiere Elements 11 (Mac) with Photoshop Elements 11 Editor (Mac)?
I previously downloaded Elements 11 Editor from Mac iTunes Store, this version does not come with Organizer.  I then found I had a copy of organizer with Premiere Elements 11.  After install I can use both products fine, but cannot use edior to edit my photos from the Organizer.  The message "the feature you selected requires adobe photoshop elements" appears.
Does anybody know how this can be resolved (if it is possible?)

In that same window there should be a series of buttons where you choose to see PSE options, PRE options or both.
EDIT However, I doubt you can make this work. Hardly anybody would do it this way, so it's not surprising that PSE isn't set up for it, but FWIW, it's also a problem with things like certain versions of PS with particular versions of organizer.

  • Apple lack of consistency?

Having been an Apple fan for many years I have become slightly disillusioned at the lack of consistency between products, especially the terrible user interface / remote of the Apple TV and now the iPod Nano 6th Gen.
I know this has been raised before and will probably be raised again but what's up with Album Artist support?  It works the same in every Apple device I own - iPod Touch, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV.  But not the Nano.  It just doesn't work at all.
I also know there are plenty of 'workarounds' but I have 5 different devices synced to the same iTunes and don't want to have to add a workaround for the Nano that detriments the experience on the other 4 devices.
Does anyone know of any plans to fix this in a future release of the Nano firmware, or a workaround that doesn't involve editing every song with a featured artist in my library?  It seems to have been a bugbear on many devices since the middle of the last decade, so surely it's on Apple's radar somewhere ?
Has anyone got an official word from Apple, ever, on this subject ?

I don't have a fix or any ideas on what to do with this because I never cared about album artist, just who I was listening to.
As far as a firmware update, there won't be one for the current iPod Nan because it is old. A new is possibly coming out next month and if so, you can see how that one works.

  • Elements 10 Organizer help Please

Just installed Adobe Elements 10 Organizer and Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and did all updates.
In Organizer I would like to know the reason "Copy Files on Import" is grayed out and how to get it active so I can uncheck it. No Photos imported from my hard disk yet.
I think I just want to import the thumbnails and leave the originals where they are.
    Thanks for any help.
    John

Elements does not physically import photos. It simply makes links to the images on your hard drive and creates a thumbnail preview in the Organizer.
Click File à get Photos & Videos à From Files & Folders

  • Can't Import photos Elements 10 Organizer

I am trying Elements 10 for the first time.  I have an iMac running Mac OSX 10.7      I have all my photos in a number of folders which I wish to import.. I use File/Get Photos and Videos/From Files and Folders.  I select the the Folder which contains the photos and then select all the photos I wish to import,  and hit "Get Media".. ( The "Copy Files on Import" option  is selected)  The import
proceeds with all photos imported successfully.  HOWEVER, it seems that while the photos were imported they have not been copied.  They show as been still linked to original location.  It's worth noting that the option "Copy Files on Import" while selected, cannot be deselected as it is grayed out. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I really like the look and feel of Elements. Looking forward to "Carousel"
also, I was expecting it to be released by end opf September as per announcement.

The whole point of organizer is to stop worrying about where things are stored and instead use tags, albums, and categories to find them when you want them, so there's no real answer to your first question--it's totally up to you. But if you plan to use folders for navigation in addition to organizer you will be working against the flow and find it frustrating. I happen to like folders; ergo I dislike organizer and iphoto et al.

  • Elements 12 Organizer on Mac

Is there any way to run Adobe Elements 12 Organizer on my Mac 10.6.8? I am running Photoshop Elements 12 with no apparent problems.
    Thanks in advance.

It is extremely important to delete preferences on updating to Mavericks:
    http://barbarabrundage.com/2013/10/28/photoshop-elements-and-os-x-mave ricks/
    You will want to find:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
Adobe Photoshop Elements (version number) Paths
Adobe Photoshop Elements (version number) Settings
The link tells you how to find the user library in 10.9. While you're in there go to the Saved Application States folder and delete any for PSE.
Also, if you have a wacom, it's crucial to update to the driver released the other day. And if you have trouble opening or saving files, adobe recommends switching your Finder windows out of coverflow view:

  • Importing from iPhoto into Elements 11 Organizer

When I click Import in Elements 11 Organizer and choose the iPhoto option I do not get the "Import from iPhoto" dialog box that allows you choices of what you would like to import. Instead, the program immediately begins importing all the photos that I have in iPhoto.  How do I get the dialog box to come up so I can make choices of what I would like to import?

You are right, that is how it works.  However, I am looking at a figure on page 36 of the Adobe "Classroom in a Book" training workbook that shows an iPhoto dialog box where you can make choices.  Wonder where that figure came from.  After seeing it, I thought maybe I had missed making a preference setting somewhere along the line.  Thanks for your response.

If your program is Photoshop Elements 12/Elements Organizer 12, you have posted in the wrong forum. Somehow your thread got posted in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum (video editing). Please repost your thread in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum or wait for a moderator here to see your thread here and move it from here to there.

  • Premiere Elements 9 organizer disable?

How do I prevent PE9 from automatically opening Photoshop Elements 9 organizer and importing every one of my 15,000 photos and videos? It bogs down my poor PC to the point where I can't get anything done. FYI: running XP with all upgrades an all other possible programs shut down.

On the Welcome screen there is a button to the upper right. Click this and you can select one of three options to occur at start up. Photoshop Elements has similar choices.
