Lack of functionality

Hi, I just downloaded the new Muse and have noticed that there are no form templates , payment widgets, and the lightbox does not allow single line of thumbnails under larger image with scrolling option. You can also not click on larger image and increase view size. There are many features described in your demos and client examples that I just can't find in the software. Have I downloaded a lite version of Muse or are all these features created in other software and imported into Muse? If so I feel you have been miss leading in your presentation of the software. Regards.

The sites that Adobe features have been augmented with manual entry of HTML. However, this manual entry of HTML is one of Muse's features.
Yep, it is lousy/dishonest marketing.
Instead of linking to the full sites, Adobe should confine their showcase to the features of Muse.
As an example, you should really only read the text on this page where Adobe limits itself to discussing Muse features.  If you click through to the full site from Aleberry, you'll see that Muse was not really used to produce the full site. Their blog runs on WordPress, not Muse or Business Catalyst.

  • Console Aesthetics and Lack of Functionality

**This is not meant to be an unhelpful thread about not liking Service Manager. It's just my team and I have had a poor experience with it, and I'm wondering if we are doing things wrong or if many people have the same experiences we do. Thank you for your
    comments!
Does anyone have a better experience with the Service Manager Console than what I'm having? I have used SCSM (and SCOM, SCCM, etc.) for about a month and a half now, and to be frank it's a very frustrating interface. Look to the bottom if you want to skip
the part where I complain about everything...
Let me give an example or two:
First, it is very slow, which could be due to our server environment, of course. But, to describe what I mean, let's say I need to rearrange an activity because it's in the wrong order, or one approval is ready to take place but the other
is not. In order to do this I have to place a CR on hold, apply the change, close it, reopen it, move the activity, apply, close, reopen, and then resume. Probably you don't have to close and reopen, but in our case the client throws an error
if you don't, and forces you to close and reopen the CR. It appears to be happening because some change is being made to the CR in the background, and the user is moving 'too fast.' By too fast, I mean I waited less than 30 seconds before doing something else.
We have found that closing and reopening an activity or change request seems to alleviate this a bit.
Second, the interface is very sloppy. Windows load in one place, then jump around the screen to where the last one was closed. Why can't they just open in the proper location? That sounds like bad programming to me. In addition, let's take a look inside
a CR and try to look at the history...
Besides the fact that the whole screen is ugly (poor formatting, hard to tell what's being changed if the Old Value/New Value runs off the screen to the right), if you expand a history event, then collapse it, your scrollbars don't return to where they were.
I mean, I expect this sort of behavior from Notepad, but not from an enterprise-level systems and process management platform. Not to mention an expensive one.
Why is this such a big deal? Well, let's say you're looking through history for something important, and the horizontal scrollbar is needed to view the whole item. If you've expanded other events (regardless of whether you've collapsed them), the horizontal
scrollbar is not visible unless you scroll all the way down vertically, then scroll over, then scroll back up to see the history you're actually looking for. On the same note, moving between
I would pull up more examples, but my console just crashed because I accidentally opened one of four failing SRs I'm currently tracking that crash the console for some reason.
BOTTOM LINE: The user experience in Service Manager is frustrating, at best. In reality, the analysts that use this product to process change requests and push changes into production hate the system and want to
abandon it for another. Management is considering changing products as well. I think Service Manager has a lot of potential, but as it stands it's full of bugs and is hard to use. Questions: Is there a better way of doing things? Do
you have the same challenges? Other challenges? Does Microsoft ever fix things, or do people still keep buying their products just because they're made by Microsoft? (I think I know the answer to that question...)

let me take these apart line by line.
Too slow: there are 2 parts to this, but i address the second later, so here's only the first. if the page is slow loading or slow to submit, then it's probably database performance on your server. Service Manager uses a tightly integrated
star model database, which typically requires more page cache ram then other DB types, and is much more sensitive to SQL performance then other DB types.
let's say I need to rearrange an activity: if background actions, like marking activity status, are slow, this behavior is by design. your process needs to be redesigned so those slow background activities actually happen in the background.
having people wait on background activities is a poor use of their time, regardless of how quickly those background tasks run. Rearranging and activities is a perfect example. why are people rearranging activities?
put them in the right order in the template, and no one will have to rearrange them. if you have multiple approvals that can start and finish out of order, then use
a Parallel activity to start them all at once and move onto the next step once they're all done.
Windows load in one place, then jump around the screen to where the last one was closed:
i'm sorry; window positions are preserved by the operating system in an attempt to make your life easier.
look at the history: yup, the programmatic method to take arbitrary changes and present them in a way that is meaningful to system administrators isn't perfect for end users.  The history isn't intended to give analysts or end users
a quick way of seeing changes they care about, those are called notifications. the history is a troubleshooting tool for admins to see what things happen under the pretty forms.  when you open your hood, the engine isn't smooth and aerodynamically curved
like the rest of the car, because the engine compartment isn't intended to be exposed to drivers, it's a diagnostic tool for mechanics.
four failing SRs I'm currently tracking that crash the console:
can you reproduce them on other systems? have you applied the lastest CU?
please report this stuff on connect, with massive details, so the product team can start to nail these things down. yes, service manager has bugs, but it also has a unique model for storing and presenting metadata about IT department in a meaningful way
for multiple use cases. Writing a page and a half about how bad your anecdotal experience isn't going to fix them, but providing documented, reproducible test cases absolutely will.
BOTTOM LINE: Maybe this isn't the product for your business. yes, it has sharp corners, and yes, it's got less polish then some of the other products that either implement half of it's features or predate it by 20+ years. it also
has incredible extensiblity and automation potential, and all of the tools needed to model your IT department in better resolution and with less effort then a lot of those other products.
if the "Aesthetics and Lack of Functionality" that you have presented here are the only considerations then you should switch to a simple software as a service offering for simple ticket management.
if, however, you're looking to implement a comprehensive, automatable, and ultimately easier to maintain service delivery operating system for your IT department, then you might want to take another swing at your processes and see if you can make them work
    in service manager.

  • Camera Raw 8.7.1.311 but it lacks several functions such as "fill-in"...

I have Elements 13, with plug-in Adobe Camera Raw 8.7.1.311, but it lacks several sliders such as "fill light", and lacks 7 of the editing functions such as 'detail'; this is PSE 13 home edition.
Is there a way I can upgrade ACR or Elements to achieve full ACR features?

Sorry fror the blank reply; I am new at this... think I understand now; Following is what I intended to send:
Thanks  to Jim Hess and Station_Two for your replies.
I had previously used PSE 5 (years ago).
Recently, a friend let me try ACR on his computer in order to 'test drive' ACR with some of my photos: he has PhotoShop
I loved Camera Raw (!!!), and assumed that the latest PSE (13) which comes with the ACR plug-in would have the latest  Camera Raw version, so I shelled out $139 for PSE 13.
That's when I found out that the version that comes with Elements 13 is limited in many ways.
It was suggested that I make a switch within Elements to a pre-2012 version of ACRaw;  I do not know how to do that: to change or upgrade ACR within Elements.  I see no ACR in my apps listing (I have a new Mac and am running Yosemite), nor any way to upor downgrade outside of Elements.
Any ideas or sites I could look at?
This is my first try at getting help via a forum.    Thanks for any advice you can give.

  • Lack of functionality in TableRowSorter

    Hi folks.
I've looked into using the new (as of 1.6) sorting facilities in JTable, and come away disappointed. Previously I had used the TableSorter class which is available from the Swing tutorial pages (http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/table.html). However the new classes provided in 1.6 don't seem to have the same level of functionality. Specifically the implementation of RowSorter provided by TableRowSorter doesn't seem to do the following:
    1. Support sorting on multiple columns (that is first order rows on primary sort column, equal values in primary column get ordered on secondary sort column, etc.) Even though the DefaultRowSorter abstract class supports sorting on multiple columns, the TableRowSorter implementation doesn't seem to exploit this.
    2. Deactivate sorting on a column. I would like to see the behaviour where clicks on the column header causes the sorting status of the column to cycle through [SORT_ASCENDING, SORT_DESCENDING, NOT_SORTED]. However as far as I can tell the way TableRowSorter behaves to clicks on the column header is to cycle the sorting status through [SORT_ASCENDING, SORT_DESCENDING]. That is, once the user clicks on some column to start sorting on that column, there must be a column sorted from then on. There is no way to stop sorting one some column once it is started.
Both of these features are provided by the TableSorter class that I mentioned at the start of the post.
Before I complain to Sun and file a Request For Enhancement, I would like to check that I haven't missed something. Can anyone tell me if these features are present in the new classes added in 1.6 but I've missed it?
    Cheers,
    Matt.

I haven't tried using Smart Playlist as a filtering option yet. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Regardless, it's still not as intuitive as going directly to the menu and filters. It's quite annoying and reminiscent of using a Microsoft product because I'd have to do some geeky rule-setting just to do something that was previously very easy.
If anyone has a third-party suggestion, I'd really appreciate knowing about it. In the meantime, I hope the Apple folks realize what a blunder this change has become.

  • Your thoughts.. lack of functionality Apple Universal Dock Remote Control

Most of us that toy around with the a/v out capabilities of the Touch are aware that standard remote control functionality is not currently available with the Apple Universal Dock remote. I can understand how mapping the multi-touch functionality to the remote's 'standard iPod wheel' functionality is like mapping apples (no pun intended) to oranges. But, I would imagine a firmware update could do the trick. However, I think it would be really cool (and expensive) to create a mini multi-touch remote.
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this.
I have posted my enhancement request, firmware upgrade first.. new remote second... to Apple's feedback site... please send in your comments if you feel the same way I do... they do listen...

What happens when you try to use the remote with an iPod touch in an Apple Universal Dock? I'd been thinking of getting Apple's dock/remote, especially because the features guide says,
You can connect iPod touch to your TV and watch your videos on the larger screen. Use the Apple Component AV Cable, Apple Composite AV Cable, or other iPod touch compatible cable. You can also use these cables with the Apple Universal Dock, available separately, to connect iPod touch to your TV. (The Apple Universal Dock includes a remote, which allows you to control playback from a distance.)
Does the remote have only limited function, then? What does the remote do, or not do?

  • Delete key lack of functionality

Im running a Macbook pro with VM fusion
when running windows software the lack of a real delete key is really irittating
i know i can use back space + FN and then click to conifrm ....but agggg
As the full size macs have a full keyboard i dont see why we have this lack of funcanality
it cant just be a lack of space as they have given us 3 buttons to control the speaker.
is it possible to mapp a key for a single hit delete ? pref working on both mac os and windows?

  • Reminders app - lacking important functionality

Dear Apple (if you're listening). The Reminders app for OSX and for iOS is nice and fast and seems to sync well. I've been using Wunderlist for my to-do lists, but don't need a lot of the functionality and it sometimes has syncing problems. I'd like to replace it with "Reminders". But ...
How is is possible that there's no way to move items between lists?! How could this essential feature possibly be left out? No drag/drop or other way to move items. You can to actually delete it and add it again to another list ... come on!
Other things that should be added:
    - sub items/tasks
    - notes shown after clicking on item, not directly below the item title ... as adding long notes will disrupt an otherwise clean list
    - ability to chose type of alert for a reminder ... like playing a sound!
You'd think will all that money that Apple's making they would put a little more effort into these apps.

To answer my own question: the sorting functionality is disabled (probably by design) in the "Today" list (not in the normal lists)...

  • Aperture 3 Geotagging - Very Disappointing Lack Of Functionality

I'm very disappointed that the geotagging feature in Aperture 3 still doesn't allow me to specify a gpx file and then automatically tag photos as they are imported. I know that there are plug-ins available for geotagging, but they are overly-functional (all I want is to tag photos on import automatically from a gpx file that I specify) and they convolute the workflow, wasting time and effort to achieve something very basic that should be built-in to Aperture.
Only enabling this ability in a piece of professional image processing software for the iPhone and the very few point-and-shoot compacts with gps built-in is laughable (and yes, I am an iPhone owner)- it should be enabled for gpx files and all image files types (including RAW) in Aperture. Most pro and semi-pro photographers use dSLRs, not iPhones, to take their photos!!
It would have been more appropriate to enable "iPhone only" geotagging in iPhoto, a product more suited to the quality of images produced by the iPhone's camera.

I'd have to agree that there is something odd going on. I am currently a Lightroom 2 user, but I am checking out Aperture 3 as there are some features here that interest me. One of them was geotagging.
In Lightroom, when I geotagged a couple dozen photos I took today, the GPS coordinates for the photos end up right where I expect them. When I did it in Aperture, dropping the first photo on the track so that it indicates 0hrs and 0 minutes, the pins for the photos are not in the right place. It looks like they are up to 10 minutes off, and as such are noticeably out of place.
I cannot explain why using the same photos and the same track log produce accurate results in Lightroom 2, but inaccurate results in Aperture 3. I am using Jeffry Friedl's plug-in for Lightroom. What I would like to have is the built in map that Aperature 3 provides.

  • New Photos lacks of functionality

Just my two cents: I have uploaded 10.10.3 and imported my main photo library successfully. Means, the pictures are there. And that is the only positive thing I can say about Photos, because
    - there is no way to assign a location (place, geo-tag) a picture within Photos
    - the Map has been removed
    - the Rating has been removed, the old rating appears under keywords ( 1 Star...)
    - the way to organize pictures has been changed, suitable for selfie makers
    - the old Events are still existing under iPhoto events
There is a second positive thing, iPhoto is still there !
Overall Photos is NOT a replacement at all. It is a step backwards ! I still remember when Steve Jobs shows the functions of the first iPad and how proud he showed the Map. And how to get all pictures from a location. In IOS it is gone. Now also in Photos. Thanks , good job !

This has happened for LR4.2, 4.3, 4.4, and now LR5.  The seemingly random nature of this bug is irratating.  Last week while still on LR4.4 I published a photo, changed it, and was able to republish it without issue.  Today on LR5 I published a set and went to republish a handful of photos only for them to be added as new photos to the set.  LR5 indicated that they were photos to republish and not new ones to the set.

  • Lack of functionality in iTunes 7

Does anyone else miss the ability to see your entire Library at once in previous versions of iTunes? I used to download podcasts, import CDs, and any other sound file I wanted, then in one clean move, select DATE ADDED in the Library and copy everything at once to my iPod. Now, with this forced separation, I have to visit each category. To make matters worse, the DATE ADDED button doesn't work in most categories. I have to wade through every file to figure out which is the most current so I can copy it to my iPod. What was Apple thinking? They de-evolved my once-useful iTunes.

  • Book layout question due to lack of functionality in InDesign

I am a doctoral student (cancer cell biology) starting to write my dissertation (in Word 2007) and I'm using InDesign CS3 (5.0.4) for the layout (I refuse to layout figures and tables in Word... tried it... giant pain in the a$$).  My original plan was to create a Book in InDesign and have each chapter be a separate file.  Due to the bibliography software I need to use the Word file has to be a single file (see this thread for details).  InDesign cannot just Place a range of pages (it's seems to be all or nothing) and this creates a problem (see the previous thread).
The question I have, is it smart to break each chapter out into a separate file?  My thinking was that since I would be bringing in a fair number Photoshop and Illustrator files into each chapter it would be wise to keep the file size down (I'm not doing this on the best of computers, at least by graphic designer standards) and it would make rearranging a little easier (my mentor has a habit of changing his mind and chapter 3 could easily switch places with chapter 7).
This is my first book so any thoughts or advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Adrian.

Nah, it's just me.  My mentor wants paper output for the markup, the committee will take a PDF or paper and the university has (thankfully) instituted an electronic submission criteria.  The final product has to be a PDF to the school and I'll have some output to paper and bound for my mentor, my family (as a gift) and myself.
The two students before me did everything in Word and yeah you can make Word do it but I just don't hassle with it.  I make religious use of styles in Word (and only 4 styles at that... talked to a graphic designer who does books for a living "Keep the styles to minimum!!"... Done), so getting it into InDesign is cake.  Also, my mentor has a nasty of habit of constantly changing his mind and doing things like, "Can you move that picture about a centimeter to left, I just want a little space in there".  I have been through this with Word, it will do it but the voices in your head will start suggesting that you kill again (and nobody wants that).  I plan on doing my grants this way, manuscripts this way, everything.  Everybody (NIH, journals, other funding sources) requires a PDF now and some require rather optimized PDFs (people think I'm crazy but I swear there is a difference between the PDFs that InDesign outputs and the ones that my wife's Mac does--just using the built-in PDF renderer or some of the other PDF creators for Windows), so I just went ahead and went through a tutorial on VTC.com and then read a couple of books.  I wouldn't be able to layout a magazine but I can do grants, manuscripts, dissertations.

  • An Open Letter To Apple Regarding iTunes' Lack Of Simple Functionality

Why, when you select, "Convert Selection To AAC," does it not do what it says? It certainly does not convert anything! Instead, it COPIES the .mp3 file and redundantly places it BACK into the library creating an abundance of duplicates (along with the original .mp3 that can't be played on my iPod - thereby further cluttering my library with "duplicates."
Why isn't there a simple "prune" function that will let you automatically (think large scale - think 70 GB Library!!) delete duplicates based on user preferences (IE: if duplicate's bitrate is <128, then delete - or base it on date. Build the functionality in for us to choose)!!??
This would be VERY easy to implement and it would certainly make your customer base A LOT happier!
Why doesn't my iPod actually sync 100% with what's in my library? I've tried to trace this down but it's a flakey bug that I can't figure out with my limited intelligence/abilities. Surely you have an IV&V dept. of some kind there? Please figure this bug out. I paid for all of my music (I have a LOT of CD's...), I paid a LOT for this iPod - I'd really like to have 100% functionality. I don't think this is an unreasonable expectation.
Why, when you select, "Convert Selection To AAC," and the conversion process encounters an error during "conversion" does the conversion not SKIP to the NEXT file and document the failure on the previous file? Maybe run a log of the problematic files? Again, think BIG LIBRARY that takes a FEW DAYS to convert.
This particular lack of function takes an already cumbersome task and turns it into an insurmountable one. Picture this scenario: It's late one night, I start the process, go to bed, but find out in the morning that 2.5 hours into the AAC conversion the whole thing failed because it didn't like ONE .mp3 file.. OK, I delete the file, RESTART the process the next day [early morning] only to return home from work to see that 4 hours after I left for work it bombed out again on another .mp3 it didn't like! Can you see where this might start to be irritating????
This brings me to my next observation of lack of basic functionality:
Duplicates are PILING UP AT THIS POINT! Because it's started "converting" and keeps failing on a random file every few hundred .mp3's and just stops, I have to start ALL over again, therein producing MORE duplicates that I have to manually delete.
Also, why won't iTunes let me get song info "Advanced/Get CD Track Info" for files that I didn't purchase? It's really petty to take away that functionality just because we didn't buy the music through you. Your (whomever's...) database will (should!) still ID a song. Let us have that functionality. The goal here is to have a clean USABLE library that's properly indexed. You are intentionally sabotaging basic functionality!
I ask anyone to provide insight on what I've written. You're welcome to call me a fool but I believe I've been as un-accusatory as possible and stated literal facts.
Also, anyone that has found a work-around to any of these problems is especially encouraged to respond.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
    All the best,
    Ed Traylor ([email protected])

You need to utilize Google a bit more. Get yourself ed-u-m-cated on music Codecs, database management also even iTunes. Even browsing these Discussions would give you some of the answers you desperately require.
"Why, when you select, "Convert Selection To AAC," does it not do what it says?"
It does that exactly. It converts the song into the new format. It never indicated that it would (or would not) replace the song for you. In fact, many of us would not like that feature as we usually convert Lossless files to various other Lossy files retaining both. No way would I like my Lossless file to be deleted. Adding another option switch could be done but only makes the iTunes program more complicated and easy to misuse.
"Why isn't there a simple "prune" function that will let you automatically (think large scale - think 70 GB Library!!) delete duplicates"
Simple concept, but difficult to program in the computer world due to the varying definitions of 'duplicate'.

"Why doesn't my iPod actually sync 100% with what's in my library?"
Hard to diagnose given the lack of info provided by you. Perhaps you have some problems with your purchased music. Perhaps you have some formats that iTunes can play but the iPod cannot. You need to do more investigation into the types of songs that do not transfer. Start a new topic with your question and some detailed obsevations.
"Why, when you select, "Convert Selection To AAC," and the conversion process encounters an error during "conversion" does the conversion not SKIP to the NEXT file and document the failure on the previous file?"
Lookee here...A valid criticism. This would be a nice feature to add, but you may want to question yourself as to why you are converting all the MP3s to AAC. You're not gaining anything audio-wise, and are losing music quality. See: http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=1823513
"Also, why won't iTunes let me get song info "Advanced/Get CD Track Info" for files that I didn't purchase?"
It does - only for tracks ripped from commercial CDs. This is not an iTunes limitation, but a CDDB (Gracenote) limitation (again, Google will help you here) based on how commercial CDs and their music tracks are identified. Any music program will have the same problem. Obviously, you are not trying to identify songs ripped directly from a commercial CD.
"You're welcome to call me a fool"
You're not a fool, but you could have done more research before you launched your post.
