Lack of Mac Support Disappointments

I was very disappointed that the iPhone doesn't allow a Mac (MacBook Pro in my case) to use it's EDGE internet connection via Bluetooth. I would like to be able to use the iPhone's internet connection for my MacBook Pro when there's no WiFi available.
Also, Bluetooth dialing support and SMS Messages in MacOS X's Address Book application isn't supported as well. This is really bad when other cell phones provide more integrated support for features in MacOS X than the iPhone.

On the first point, I completely agree. Why the iPhone folks decided not to allow it to become a hotspot is beyond me - other than the low bandwidth, and resulting poor impressions from average users. I would like to be able to sign something that says "I UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM DOING THANKS" and have access to things like this that might displease "average" folks.
On the second point, I don't think I agree. The iPhone has its own screen - the address book is duplicated. I don't see any reason to use the Mac address book to deal with the phone, when the phone can display everything the machine can....

• VERY dissapointed by lack of Mac support

Hi,
well I've read a lot of posts on the web now about this and they all say the same thing: Why doesn't Creative make Mac drivers? And I've yet to see a reply! I've bought a Vista IM and of course it won't work on my iMac G5. I think this will put me off buying anything from Creative again.

Same here. I looked all over for a mac-compatible USB webcam, and found very little support out there. Macam is good, but due to Creative's lack of support (which amounts to simply giving the Macam people documentation, takes practically no effort on Creative's part) none of their recent webcams are supported. I went with a competitor for a couple of webcams instead, including the Philips SPC900NC (works well with Macam).
If Creative can't be bothered to support Macs, the least they could do is have some open dialog with the Macam people or send them a bit of documentation. But as it stands, Mac users will simply have to ignore creative.

Lack of Mac & Linux Support Hurting Javafx 2.0 Early Adoption and traction.
Oracle needs to come out with a Mac & Linux Beta built, or let developers know the real story behind Mac OS and Javafx 2.0.

I too would like to at least be able to try the Mac/Linux ports, even knowing that they are behind the Windows version. But just knowing that Oracle is committed to them is enough to ease any nervous feeling that I'm choosing the wrong tech.
I have no problems with the fact that Oracle is concentrating on Windows first. It makes sense. If you have to pick one platform to focus on while you are getting the kinks out, it makes sense for it to be the most popular platform. That's Windows. But there mustn't be too long of a wait for the others. (E.g. if they were in a public beta stage when the Windows version is at final release, that would help boost confidence in the platform.)
So long as they don't make the same mistakes that were made with Swing, where there are too many assumptions that all platforms work the same - so things like Mac's screen menu bar had to be fit in after the fact by Apple using awkward hacks. (I notice that now even popular Linux distros (Ubuntu) are using the screen menu bar concept, though they have managed to fit that into the window manager in such a way that it didn't seem to cause much problems.)

• Lack of Migration support for 6.0 & 10g users

Hi,
One of the 1st things we wanted to do with the beta as an existing customer is to validate migrating a project from our existing Production version (6.0) to 11g.
While the import appears to work, opening any imported diagram throws an XML parsing exception.
After raising an SR, it turns out that migrating from previous versions is unsupported until 11gR2.
This puts me in a tricky spot as one of the main business drivers to adopt 11g is product upgrade.
I am very surprised to see existing customers nt being catered for in the new version, as running multiple versions in Prod is not a realistic option for most.
Backwards compatability is therefore very important to the existing user base!
So, questions for Oracle:
1. Can you please reconsider the lack of migration support for R1?
2. if this feature cannot be working for R1, what is the expected release date (even if its just a quarter) for R2?
3. To save my time, is there a list of what other features are not for going to be available in the Beta / R1 release?
As a Beta tester my time is precious, and I need to know what I can expect to work, rather than report issues only to then find out that its not supported...
Thanks,
Ian
.

Hi Ian,
You are right in the sense that upgrade will be supported in BPM 11gR2. More specifically, the upgrade will support OBPM 10gR3 to BPM 11gR2. Customers in older versions of OBPM and ALBPM will need to upgrade to OBPM 10gR3 before attempting the upgrade to BPM 11gR2. To upgrade to OBPM 10gR3, there are a series of pointers in our documentation on how to do this. I can explicitly provide links if you are interested in this mandatory upgrade before moving to BPM 11g.
As per the reason for not being able to support upgrade in this first version of BPM 11g, it simply boils down to time to create the new unified BPM platform which in itself is a major undertake from an Engineering perspective. Once the foundation is complete (this is the objective for BPM 11gR1), we will start working on completing the delta to upgrade OBPM 10gR3 projects to BPM 11gR2 as best as possible. There is a document we have been sharing with customers with Best Practices for implementing OBPM 10gR3 projects with idea of an upgrade to BPM 11g. We do have significant knowledge on some pieces that we will be able to automate from a migration perspective and some others that will be hard to upgrade. If you are interested in this document, we can provide this to you.
If you have any other questions, please let me know. I would be more than happy to assist with migration questions with the most up to date knowledge I have on this front.
Regards,
eduardoc.

• Lack of Tech Support and inferior product

So tired of this lack of tech support for the G2. I'm on my second one. First one had a headphone jack issue that caused the mic to stop working, now this one is doing that, and to top it off I've had to do 3 factory resets in order to send picture messages. Fed up with this.

Headphone jack is basically shorting out the phone. This is a refurbished "like new" one and I've only had it a month maybe.  The first phone I had replaced on the warranty. If you barely moved it, it would register as you having unplugged the headphones. Eventually it got to the point where the microphone wouldn't work either. So people could talk to me, but I couldn't talk to them. I've tried multiple headphones and auxiliary cords, they all do the same thing. I've googled the problem and it's a known issue with this phone, at least know by the customers, perhaps not acknowledged by LG.
Picture messaging is working for now, after my second or 3rd factory reset, this is also a known issue, I've gather from perusing the forums. Supposedly a glitch in the new OS. Hear there is talk of a fix in September or August.....I only use the native app to text pictures. I tried sending with data turned off and wi fi on, with data on and wifi off, and with both data and wifi on, and it refuse to compress the picture.

• New Mac Mini, Not so new LCD HDTV Monitor, no mac support

I have been attempting to set up a Mac Mini with a Maxent LCD 26" HD TV I can't get either the RGB or DVI-D input to accept signal. I have purchased DisplayConfigX and SwitchResX_X. Maybe they could work, but I can't get a signal to stay on long enough to change the settings as listed in other posts. I have tried booting in safe mode as DisplayConfigX instructions suggest. But still only am able to see the screen until gear starts spinning with apple logo, resolution changes spontaneously to one that I suppose is unsupported and I get the unsupported display and a beautiful blank blue screen. I tried manually inputting the resolutions the monitor manual lists, while connected with an lcd pc monitor. But I can't get the Maxent LCD TV monitor to stay on. It appears that if I could get the Mac Mini to send this resolution signal to the Maxent I would be able to delete any unneeded settings and that would be it.
Perhaps Tom Fussy can help me.I have been at this for over two weeks now. So I have become super frustrated. Of course Maxentusa.com offers no Mac support. But state that if Mac mini is supposed to work with PC that it should work with my Mac Mini. My LCD TV is about 6 months old I could still return it for maybe a Sharp Aquos, if that $300 dollar more TV would work. I am happy with the Maxent otherwise. Keeping it, and having it work with Mac Mini Is my choice. Of course Apple offers no support for the Maxent monitor and directed me here. This is my first discussion group post. School me if I have not followed the rules completely.

I was able to get the settings for Maxent using Gregory's software to force 640x480. Here are my settings

• Non existent mac support

I have three major problems - i have to restart safari twice a day cos it slows to a crawl, i have to reboot my mac at least once a day, and snow leopard defaults to mac email but i use gmail. i have set up support calls with mac support, which i pay for, and get the callback which says calls are answered in the order received and then tell me i am on hold for ten minutes. Is Apple becoming Microsoft? And since Apple no longer provides support, how do I stop the ongoing "callbacks" which always put me on hold. I run a business. Should I go back to Microsoft and Dell for non existent support?
Safari = memory leak? not enough cache? problems with snow?

mhh.. when i phone apple care, i wait my 10 minutes and have someone on the line who will try to help me. don't see where the problem is, as i'm not the only person who calls them.
you could try to delete safari's cache, if the browser gets slower. it's an option in the safari menu. also, if safari's generally to slow for you, you can easily try other browsers like chrome, opera or firefox.
why do you have to reboot your mac once a day? does it freeze? or kernel panic?
as for SL defaulting to mac email instead of gmail... i don't get it. Sl has it's own mail client. there you can setup your gmail account as POP3 or IMAP account and the mail client will send and load mails only from this account. but the same here as for safari. if you don't like apples mail client, install another one like thunderbird.

It's the default sort order. You can choose chronological order( ascending or descending) or by Import batch or by filename. Contrary to older versions, those sort orders are available not only in thumbnail view, but also in Folders view and albums. In albums you can sort as you like 'custom order'. No difference in Mac or Win.

• .Mac support not interested - what next?

Hi, I posted a series of posts two weeks ago when experiencing problems with publishing iWeb having taken out a full year's membership of .Mac. Despite a few emails consequently from the .Mac support customer care team, no solution was found. After several days waiting for help, I got an email from Vicki on 17 October saying my problem had been 'escalated' to .Mac Support Engineering. I have heard nothing since, despite sending Support Engineering several emails politely requesting that they get in touch. I then got another email from Tony at .Mac support thanking me for my patience but saying Support Engineering will respond. It's now the best part of 10 days since Support Engineering were supposed to get in touch. Yet not a word or call. I can't call anyone because Apple dont' use 'phones. And .Mac Support Engineering steadfastedly refuse to get in contact by email. Yet I'm still paying for .Mac membership! Fully paid up, in fact!
What do I do now? And what sort of 'service' is this?
Any suggestions welcome!
Adrian, London

thanks varkgirl for your post - i read through the collection of posts you assembled re publishing, but I'm not at all confident that I'm getting closer to a solution.
I wonder if I could run my question by you and others in the forum in hopes that someone can point me in a fruitful direction.
I did following to troubleshoot, using a test group of photos:
l. Confirmed I'm using IWeb 1.1.1
2. Published to a folder
3. Uploaded to iDisk
4. Republished all Pages to .Mac
That's when I received an error message - "Error occurred while publishing NW photos to your site . . . "
5. I did not go further with Network troubleshooting.
6. My internet setup is through sbcglobal.net, DSL modem, router between 2 home computers. Haven't tried other computer in local network.
Several days agoI thought I had successfully published a photo page to my site because I was able to access from my computer, but my friends who received the link I sent reported that they could access the page. Could you try to access this link? http://web.mac.com/momorris/iWeb/MA/Hetch%20Hetchy.html
Also, how do I publish a particular photo selection to my .Mac website without having it be linked to all the other web pages I've created?
Any help you can provide would be most helpful. This is my first attempt at the discussion forum so I'm interested to see how it works since my call to Technical Support (applecare account) wasn't productive.
Thanks,
Mo

• MAC support- infinity blade 2

I paid USD150 for in app purchases for Infinity blade 2, had the game for nearly a year, 'backed it up' as per the instructions, i stopped playing the game for a bit, and an update comes along, wipes my accounts, and because of icloud sync, it wipes it on my other devices as well, I try to back it up, it fails.
I tried to restart a new game, as in app purchases would restore itself for new games- IT DOES NOT - it somehow does not recognize I bought the $150 worth of in app purchases.
So I emailed MAC support- their replies were
Thank you for the reply. I understand your frustration, but the product was delivered to you, but unfortunately it was not backed up. Since the data your purchased was stored in the save game file, the save game file must be present to maintain the content.
To prevent future data loss, I recommend making frequent backups of your data. The following article has instructions for backing up your iTunes data:
iTunes: About iOS backups
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4946
We are able to provide refunds in cases where the product was never received, but these refunds must be processed a short time after the purchase was made. Since these purchases were made almost a year ago, we are not able to refund them. Additionally, we are not able to add credit directly to your account, as it must be purchased.
i want to clarify- the game is bugged, i did not get to enjoy my purchases and asked for support to simply give me my in game cash, and all they do is tell me the above... CHAIR refuses to reply my emails, they simply ignore me and when i press further, I get a reply from the support manager saying they WILL NOT be replying my requests anymore... CAN SOMEONE IN APPLE CARE DO ME SOME JUSTICE??? THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS...

I play Inifinity Blade 2 on my 4th gen ipod touch, no issues with screen, don't think too much about it, you got another defective unit.

• Mac support phone call??

Has anyone received a phone call saying they are from Mac Support?  I said I was not interested before they could finish their sales pitch, but I am curious as to how they would know if someone owned a Mac, or if it was just a random lucky call?  Any security issues I should check into?
Thanks

It's a scam, hang up on them should they call back. Apple won't initiate contact with you via phone unless you've asked them to call for support.

Not sure what you want - you shoot the photo by doing a sweep and the camera makes a static JPEG that is long (panaromic) and you import it - on the camera and in iPhoto is is a panaromic photo

• Does Mac support Canon MP600 scanner

my Mac support the printer portion but I cant get the scanner to work.  Does anyone know
if Canon MP600 is supported for the scanner portion of the machine?

Hi, to everybody who has a problem with the scanner MP600 on Mavericks. Found a way how it works:
Uninstall and Reinstall the software according to the instruction that Candacefae gave us. Instead pick software and driver for Lion including MP Navigator. Then Restart Computer. After done click on Application folder and Canon Utilities. Then click on MP Navigator. And voila. You can scan.
A little annoyance but it works. Keep in mind - clicking on System Preferences and Open Scanner will not work!
For everybody else who does not want to deal with all the steps there is always Vuscan - just cost $79.95 for the Premiumversion. Works with all Models no matter how old.
