Laptop can't maintain wifi connection to my airport

hi, I got a 1.67Ghz G4 power book w/ airport extreme card. (firmware version 405.1) been connecting to the web via my airport extreme base station (802.11n)
recently the power book start to have problem maintaining the internet connection, it would connect, then drop off the connection after a few minutes, and the network name would also disappear as well like it does not detect the network. then reconnect again either by itself or by use internet connect, however, sometimes it does say there is an error connecting when I use internet connect.
my desktop is also connected to the airport extreme base station via ethernet, and the connection has been fine.
Is there a way to find out what is causing the problem? the base station? or the laptop?
thank you in advance for your commends and suggestions

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your PowerBook from getting a good clean signal. I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using a utility like iStumbler to determine potential areas of interference...and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them.

  • My Apple TV can't maintain WiFi connection...why?

I have a very strong WiFi signal in the room where the Apple TV is; my laptop and my iPhone both work perfectly fine on the wifi in there, but when I use the navigation on the apple TV to stream something it plays about 12 secods and then stops and says the Apple TV is not connected to any networks... if I wait 5 more seconds it reconnects and shows the entire navigation menu and I have to re-load the show... only to have this process repeated.
If I select Apple TV from the laptop or iPhone the video plays fine through the TV.  Why can't the Apple TV it's self stream without "losing connection"???

Scan the Support Community sites. Apple TV losing connection is prevalent. The many postings point out the problem occurs with Apple TV1,2and 3; with different brands of router including Airport Extreme; from current and past versions of iTunes; after varying periods of working well.....minutes, hours, days; losing connection with Home Sharing and loosing Airplay; whether the router and Apple TV are in same room or separated by distance; after trying innumerable posted 'fixes'; after exchanging for a new Apple TV.
Readers, please don't post a fix until you check it works for atleast a week.

  • I can make a WiFi connection but pages will not load. WiFi works for a laptop using windows

I can make a WiFi connection but pages will not load.  WiFi works ok on a laptop using Windows.  I have reset the WiFi settings but this makes no difference.

Thanks, Linc, but  that almost helped:
Because the retina 15 only has a wifi connection (no ethernet), that's the connection I'm stuck with for the notebook. But on the 27iMac, I did have both ethernet and wifi enabled. When I turned the wifi off on the 27, therer was a brief moment when both computers were showing their counterparts when I tried to make a network connection. BUT, after a few seconds of 'searching', the computer I was trying to connect to disappeared from the Network list.
So I tried the opposite; the retina can only connect thru wifi, so that's a given. I swithched my ethernet off and then enabed the wifi on the 27 and ....same thing: When I try a network connection, there are a few seconds of 'searching', then the ony option I'm left with is share screen, which doesn't work either.
I've read the 'dropped' network is a problem with the retina, but the odd thing is that I never lose my internet connection—that continues to work fine, as does Air Drop—but I can't seem to connect, network-wise.
Any ideas about the dropped network?

  • Devices (iPad, iPhone) no longer can maintain wifi connectivity with time capsule

My iPad and iPhone can no longer maintain wifi connectivity with time capsule.   Time capsule has connectivity to internet via Macbook, but not other devices.  This started after upgrade of devices to s/w 6.0.  Does anyone know if that could impact connectivity?

Yes, this is often reported with iOS 6.. there are definitely more wireless problems.
I recommend you reset the TC in the following ways.
    1. Change all names to SMB type.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. that includes the TC itself, wireless and hard disk. I recommend a different name for 5ghz so you can force clients to that band without auto voodoo affecting it.
    2. Use WPA2 Personal security only.. 8-12 character pure alphanumeric passkey.
    3. Lock the wireless channels.. particularly for 2.4ghz.. pick one of the channels, out of 1, 6, 11 as these are the only ones that do not overlap.. test each in turn for the best and most stable. TC should pick the best itself but that is voodoo and I am preferring to run the system without black arts.

  • I can print from my macbook pro using airport express usb connected printer, however my iPad is looking for an airprint printer.  Can I direct the iPad to the usb connected printer.  Both macbook and iPad confirm a wifi connection through the airport exp.

I can print from my macbook pro using airport express usb connected printer, however my iPad and iphone are looking for an airprint printer.  Can I direct the iPad/iphone to the usb connected printer.  Macbook iphone and iPad confirm a wifi connection through the airport express.

You will need to install an App like Print Central on the iPad to try to print to the printer. It will allow you to print to most printers. Check with their support folks if you need more info.

  • Can I use my IMac OS 10.4 (old) to set up a wifi router, such as Airport Base, so I can have a wifi connection for the iPhone I plan to buy?  My IMac is not wifi capable.

Can I use my several-years-old IMac OS 10.4 to set up a wireless router, such as Aiport Base, so I can have wifi for the iPhone I plan to buy.  My IMac is not wife capable.

Yes, Airport Express Base Station connected to your Mac by ethernet will work as a bridge. Or you can connect the AE directly to your router/modem by ethernet if it's a non-wi-fi router and it will act as a relay for that.

  • Can't find WiFi connections on my iPhone

    Hi guys,
Apologies if this has been covered in another topic, but my problem is not alone, connecting to WiFi, my iPhone doesn't even find any WiFi connections any longer all of a sudden, unless I'm sitting right beside the router at my computer so I'm guessing there might be a problem with the antenna possibly, or possibly not?? I tried resetting settings, restoring the iphone to factory settings (and losing all the apps I've purchased over the last 12 months in the process, doh) taking the sim card out and putting back in but still no joy. Anyone else experience anything simular and can offer advice, any info would be much appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Chris

As with all other iTunes content that is available on your iPhone, all 3rd party apps installed on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library and would be with Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. This should be selected for a number of reasons with this being one of them. With Sync Apps selected, after downloading/installing an app with your iPhone, the app will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so. This also allows for downloading an app with iTunes on your computer and installing the app on your iPhone via the iTunes sync process. To remove an app without deleting the app, deselect the app under the apps tab followed by a sync. To reinstall the app again later, reselect the app under the Apps tab followed by a sync. When restoring your iPhone with iTunes if wanted or needed, all apps will or can be re-installed on your iPhone when syncing since all apps are in your iTunes library where they should be.
If no change after resetting network settings on your iPhone and/or after restoring your iPhone with iTunes with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, your iPhone has a hardware problem with the wireless card or with something else.

  • Have done all the trouble shooting connection but my iPad still can not get wifi connection

i have done all the trouble shooting connection but mu iPAd still can not get wifi connection

    Hi Jo,
Each router is a little different but here are the basics: login to the router using the administrator account, should have that info from the installer, and then you should find something like security settings, or it may be advanced security.  There will be a setting to the effect of limiting access, or it may say allow Mac address authentication, or admit the Mac addresses in the table...if that is switched on, you can just switch it off and that will allow any wireless device to attach.  If you want to keep it on, then you have to enter the Mac address for the device you want to use for access.  In the case of the iPad, go to Settings > General > About > WiFi Address (another way of saying Mac address).  Enter that very long sequence in the router's Mac address acceptance table and that should take care of things.
Using the Mac address does not change any of the email settings, just limits attaching to the router in the first place.
If you are already getting email, you must be attaching already so this should not be an issue.  If you are having email issues, such as receive but not send, you may not have the outgoing server set correctly: Settings > Mail > Account > Outgoing server name (usually an SMTP server) and you may have to go to the advanced settings to enter the outgoing password (normally the same as the account/incoming password) and then check to see if SSL is ON or OFF...most common email services say to set to OFF.

  • Now Phone Forgets/Can't Make WiFi Connection?

Beyond all of my other app issues and operating system force close issues with my Droid Charge (almost paperweight) phone unit . . . Starting two days ago it is now UNABLE TO ESTABLISH A WiFi CONNECTION!!!
Nothing has changed with the router or password (all of our other WiFi equipment works just fine) and I have even 'removed' the connection from the phone and re-added it. NOPE.
I am not one who 'Cries Wolf' or takes to conspiracy theories (just a normal professional business person) - And have had cell phones since there were in a bag with battery . . . BUT THE DROID CHARGE IS AN ABSOLUTE PIECE OF JUNK.
Any VZW assistance is always appreciated.
ALL ANYONE WANTS IS A PHONE (that's still under contract) THAT WORKS.

    Jim,
Your problem sounds like it's the phone but do check these things.
Recheck to see these things:  Go to Wireless & Networks and touch WiFi settings.  It should start scanning.  Go down to Add Network and again add your SSID and Security passphrase.  I say this because it sounds like your phone is not keeping (holding) your SSID and/or security passphrase settings so entering them here may work as opposed to entering then when a network is found through scanning.
Then go down to Advanced and set the Wi-Fi sleep policy to NEVER and also make sure Use Static IP is checked. Leave IP address and Gateway unused.
If this does not work then do a more than 10 Minute battery pull.  This is NOT like a factory reset.  Remove your battery for more than 10 minutes.  Then re-install the battery and reboot your phone and again recheck or reenter your SSID and passphrase.  If that doesn't fix your problem I am fresh out of ideas.

  • How long does iTouch maintain Wifi Connection?

So, I'm sitting at home, connected to BeeJive, and I'm chatting away, and my screen goes blank in 1 min (which is what I set the lock to). I turn it back on a few mins later, and first thing I see is "checking for connection" and then connects me.
    Questions are:
When does the iTouch terminate the Wifi connection? Does it terminate when it locks at 1 min? So that means if I press the sleep button on top, it will auto-terminate the Wifi connection as well? Is there anyway to leave the Wifi connection on longer to keep receiving mesages but just sleep the screen?
I guses these questions would help when connecting to other pages that require an open connection. I assume the iPhone doesn't have this problem, since they always have some type of always on?

If it's going to drain the battery, it might as well stay connected. I guess when I need to, I'll change the autolock settings to longer time or Never. Probably not a good idea as that drains more battery, but I guess useful since there is no "ting" or sound indicator that I have a new message during chat.

  • I have a MacBookPro, an iPad and an iMac using a wifi connection with an airport extreme base station. Lately I am having trouble with connection time outs. Right now the laptop and ipad are connected okay but the iMac has timed out and I can't reconnect

Please help. Just the last week or so (maybe since Apple released a new software update for my Airport, I keep getting kicked off the net and can't reconnect - it doesn't even show my wifi network in the list of available networks. I am considering resetting the airport as detailed in the manual. If I do this will it act as a new one and can I set it up as from the beginning. My Mac is running OSX 10.6.8 and if I try to use the airport setup assistant it tells me i can't use this version of the app with the version of my OS (because I have upgraded my OS ) I assume
I get a message saying my network requires a WPA password and when I put it in it says connection timeout - meanwhile here I am on my laptop and connecting okay to the net that way - so strange.
If I connect directly to the computer I have a good connection so it is not my ISP
I am 64 and a woman and I thought I was reasonably savvy having had Macs since 1992. This has me stumped and I really would like some advice - otherwise I think I'll just go iout andf buy a new airport.
And just so you know . . . I have a smart TV and it is connecting to the net okay!

The Utility transferred all of the AE's settings, so I still have to change the password, which leaves me with only 2 other questions, I think:
    1)  I assume it's just a matter of using the Utility, entering a stronger password and checking for it to be remembered in Keychain Access.  But do I have to  change the password for each individual unit-- the TC, the Extreme and both Expresses-- or will changing it just for the TC alone work for the entire network?
Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.
    2)  Who's the treasonous SOB who spilled the beans to you about the ICBM in my back yard?!?
    N.Korean hackers.
[Edit] Whoops-- one more question:  I want to partition the TC's disk, but Disk Utility doesn't see it.  What do I need to do?
You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).
    Look at Q3 here.

Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.

  • Can I share wifi connection through iPhone tethering (instead of 3G)?

    Hi,
    when overseas, I don't have tethering (I have a US-only plan).
However, I am able to join wifi hotspots with a global login, plus my work based encrypted network. I cannot get my iPad or Macbook onto those networks directly.
Can I join a wifi network with my iPhone, then have other devices tether to that wifi internet connection?
    Thanks!
    edited for formatting.

    No.
Tethering is for sharing the iPhone's internet connection via the iPhone's cellular network only with a computer or device.

I upgraded my OSX to Lion, and ever since i am unable to pull a connection to my wifi, neither at home nor at work. I have tried almost everything... I even reinstalled all of my software and NADA..... And needless to say it took me the whole saturday to do it, since it is recommended to start with the Discs that originally came with the computer..
I´m on the verge of hating my computer!!!
