Laptop Replacement Battery

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion g6-2111us Notebook. My battery is dying quite fast so I am looking for another one. My question is this: Do I have to have a battery that says it is for my exact model of laptop? Or is it ok for me to get just another 6 cell lithium ion 47whr battery, that does not specifically say it's for my laptop?
Thanks in advance,
Tyler

  • HP G60-120CA Replacement battery not charging/discharging

I have an HP G60-120CA laptop, running Windows Vista x64. It's worked reasonably well, aside from a few issues over the years (the original charger died and I've had to clean the fan of dust and re-thermal paste the heat sink a couple of times. All in all, a pretty good track record.). However, I recently decided to replace the battery, as the old one was on its last legs (~20 minutes battery life) and I am going to university in the fall. So I got a new battery. The old battery said to replace with hp spare 498482-001, so I did. And then the weirdness started.
I put the new battery in this morning. It reported an initial charge of 60,145mWh (97,697mWh capacity) (61.6% charge.) And then it sat there. Windows reports "plugged in, charging", but the charge hasn't changed at all, and BatteryBar reports a charge rate of 0mW.
When I unplugged the laptop, it went dead exactly as if there was no battery in the laptop. I rebooted it with the power cable in again, and the charge level was exactly the same as before. However, HP Battery Check reports the battery is good.
I've tried replacing the battery / un/re/plugging the power cord in various combinations while the laptop was off, but no dice. If I try to turn on the laptop with the battery in and the power cord unplugged, it does nothing, not even flash the battery LED to report low battery.
Oh, and the old battery, with the exception of the fact that it is aging, charges and discharges just fine.
Any suggestions? (I'm going to leave it plugged in / off overnight to see if it fixes itself on its own, but I'm doubtful as to if it will work.)

Here goes we need more specs ie full model make and product number and what the adapter and battery specs are? Knowing these specification will give a clearer picture of what your asking about.  Then we can go from here....

My laptop got wet - battery icon now has a X inside and it is not holding any charge at all, anyone else dealt with this scenario?

The battery is not detected, so it means that the battery or the battery connector are not working, which is a serious problem.
Turn off your MacBook and take it to an Apple Store or reseller. It will be an expensive repair if your logic board has to be replaced. Read > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5511

  • No license when the laptop is in battery operation

    Hello
I have got a problem with the new license since LabVIEW 8.0. I activated the license when the laptop was in mains operation. When I try to start LabVIEW when the laptop is in battery operation, there is an error because of changed hardware. When I put in the power cord and restart LabVIEW, LabVIEW starts normally. Does anybody else know this problem? How can i start LabVIEW when there is no power outlet?
My laptop is from HP, the model Compaq nc8430. The processor is an Intel Centrino Duo.
    Thanks

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello
The reason you are receiving this message is that the computer ID used to
generate an activation code for LabVIEW is based, in part, on your ethernet
card's MAC address. It sounds like when you change to battery mode that Windows
is reporting a different MAC address to the license manager.
I can generate a computer ID for you based on your hard drive's disk volume
serial number which you could use to activate LabVIEW again. This would prevent
this issue happening again in the future (well at least until you changed your
hard drive but I guess you'd be reinstalling LabVIEW at that point anyway).
In order to get that computer ID to you I need to know what your Volume Serial
Number is, this is how to get that:
    1. Open a command prompt. Go to Start»Run
    2. Type "cmd" (without the quotes) and click OK
    3. At the command prompt, type "C:" (without the quotes) to change
the active directory to your C: drive
    4. Type "vol" (without the quotes) to get your Volume Serial Number.
Once I get that from you with your Labview Development System (Base, Full,
Professional). I will reply with a computer ID number you can use to activate
    LabVIEW at http://ni.com/activate/

  • I just get the new iPad air and when connecting it to my laptop, why the battery is not charging?

just get the new iPad air and when connecting it to my laptop, why the battery is not charging?

A lot of computers don't provide enough power to their USB ports to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off (if you leave it for a while and then disconnect it from your computer you may find that it's battery percentage has gone up). The wall charger is usually the most efficient way to charge the iPad.

  • HP DV9000 Laptop Instant Shutdown Battery Issue

    Hello everyone,
I'm new here and I am having some laptop issues and was hoping someone might be able to assist me with them. First I would like to list my computer specs:
    HP DV9543CL laptop
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 2GHZ
    2x 160 GB SATA HDs
    2 GB RAM
    Running: Windows 7 x64
Below is a rundown of what is happening and what I have done to try and resolve my issue:
My laptop was making some retched loud noises from the fan and it wouldn’t stop or slow down at all, it would just stay on with its highest RPMs. With my warranty expired, I decided I would open up my laptop to try and clean out the fan and heatsink. I have worked on and built my own desktops for a while and I decided that I should be able to clean the laptop fan (a decision I currently regret). I got everything open and took everything apart and cleaned out the fan and as I was putting the laptop together I had a hard time putting in the flat cable for the HP Quickplay Switch Board and slightly damaged it. After everything was put back together, I fired up the computer and everything booted up properly. I noticed that the HP Quickplay buttons lights still came on, but the volume slider lights were no longer illuminated. The Quickplay buttons no longer work (which I can deal with because they illuminate properly) but I am having a bigger issue now.
I noticed when I booted up Windows, my battery icon showed that my battery was charging but when I hovered over the icon it said my battery had 0% but was plugged in and charging, however the percentage would never increase indicating it was actually charging. I thought this was weird so I decided to unplug the laptop from the AC adapter to see what would happen. When I did this, the computer stayed on but still told me that the battery had 0%. I decided to leave it that way (since I knew the battery had an almost complete charge) and check to make sure everything else worked. After about 5 minutes or so, my computer shut down instantaneously (like if you were to pull the plug without the battery in.) Knowing this was a bad sign, I decided to try and figure out what was going on. I tried plugging in the computer with the battery in and after about 10 minutes or so the computer shut down the same way. Next I thought I would try using the laptop without the battery in and use it on just AC power. This seemed to work and since I have been using the laptop this way, it has been running alright. My wife has the same exact laptop so I thought I would check my battery in her computer and her battery in mine because her computer is running fine, and, of course, her battery does the same thing in my computer and my battery reads just fine in her computer. So I am now resorting to working on my laptop only on AC power, but I’m sure you can understand my frustration in using a laptop this way. I also thought maybe it was a software issue in my Windows OS so I loaded up a Ubuntu live boot environment and found that Ubuntu was reporting the same battery issues as Windows (saying the battery was charging at 0% but not increasing in charge and reporting that the battery was empty when off of AC power but still running for a short time.)
There is one other issue that is happening. If I leave the computer on with the battery in (with or without AC power) and leave it sitting, eventually the battery charging indicator light starts flashing as if something is wrong. This also happened when I had the computer completely off but left the AC adapter plugged in with the battery in (as if to charge the battery). This led me to believe that the issue is a hardware issue but I had to check to make sure it wasn’t an OS problem as well.
I really have no idea what I could have done to the computer to have this happen. I checked everything that I did when disassembling the computer and I didn’t tinker with the battery or anything that controls it, to my knowledge. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I really regret ever opening up my laptop but now that it’s in the past, I’m hoping I may be able to at least fix what I’ve messed up.
Sorry for such a long post and thank you, in advance, for helping me with my issue. Let me know if there is any other information you may need to assist. Thank you for your time.
    -Billy-

So I just had another shutdown but this time it was without the battery in and on AC power (which was working fine before). I decided I would load up World of Warcraft to play, since I thought it was working, and after about 5 or 10 minutes of playing the computer shut down. It doesn't restart when these shutdowns happen it just goes off and stays off. I have been monitoring temperatures to see if that could be a potential issue of overheating (although I still think there is a battery problem too) and found that just random web browsing has the computer idle around 44-45 C and when I am running World of Warcraft it was ~80 C. I don't know what normal laptop temps are but it didn't seem overly stressing but I don't know. It's working for normal web browsing and word processing but World of Warcraft is too stressing apparently. Any insight anyone has on this issue would be wonderful. Thanks for your time.

  • My MacBook Pro laptop says 'service battery' and doesn't charge very well but my Mac is 5 years old. Is it worth buying a new battery or do you think I should buy a new mac?

    Hi guys,
I can only leave my MacBook Pro unplugged for an hour maximum and it never seems to fully charge. It says on the Mac to service battery - which I guess means buy a new battery.
I have had my MacBook for over 5 years now and it does get used probably every day, if not every other. If I brought a new battery would it all work normally again or is it getting old and do I need a new one?
Also, my charger seems to be playing up a bit now as well. It's seems to be temperamental when I plug it in and takes to while to light up and charge.  I've attached an image of the battery bit on my laptop as the lead seems to be fine - is this normal?
    Thanks in advance guys.

Is there any application(s) that your current Mac cannot run that only a new can?  Calculate the cost per year of your current MBP and compare that to the cost of a new battery.  Spread the battery cost over a year or two of additional operation, how do the dollar amounts compare?  If the MBP is functioning properly, I generally find it is more cost effective to keep it.
If the retina display and the SSD storage are very desirable from your perspective, then that becomes a different matter.  You are the one to make the final decision.
    Ciao.

  • How to suspend only when Laptop is with Battery on systemd

Hi again , I was capable to make sleep hooks for systemd to lock screen when suspend/hibernate and for wicd to reconect wifi in same way, but i cant figure out is how to make systemd only suspend when is on battery. Because if I edit /etc/systemd/logind.conf to handle the Lid events always suspend wheterever is on battery or AC, before I was using acpi to handle this, to make clear here is my handler.sh

In my laptop dirty_writeback_centisecs= 60000 when is on battery if AC is 500. I read this post where one user make a udev rule to know if system is on AC or battery but I cant how to figure out to use in some way like i was using with acpi.
I was thinking in some sleep hook like this (i will use pseudo code):
    #!/bin/sh
    if [ $1 == 'pre' ] ; then
    STATE=$(cat /proc/sys/vm/dirty_writeback_centisecs)
    if [[ $STATE == 60000 ]]
    then
    systemctl suspend
    elif
break suspend (this is i dont know how to implement)
    fi
    fi
I hope I was clear enough, feel fre to ask any questions. And sorry for my bad english

lahwaacz wrote:You can't do this with systemd AFAIK. What's wrong with acpid? It works, right?
Yes it works but if systemd can handle this eventes It would be good to get rid off of acpid because following this post I was capable of getting rid pm-utils .
Guess I'll have to keep using acpi until systemd can handle these events. Thanks.

  • New laptop not charge battery

I just bought Pro book 440 g1 for 2 day, and now i can not charge the battery.
    1. when the laptop power off, the battery led is not light, and not charge ( i see the battery 97% in windows, after 30 minutes, it's still 97%).
    2. when i am in windows, the power manage said that "it's pluged in but not charging", and my laptop use AC power not battery.
    I've tried:
    1. unistall microsoft battery driver and re install the driver but it's not work.
    2. try to remove the battery then press power button in 1 minutes, and put the battery in, when i put battery in see the battery led light only once, then plugin in adapter but it's not work.
    3. The adapter is woking well.
Please help me! Why the new laptop have problem.

Certainly. Assuming you have being using this PowerBook for some time, I would recommend first backing up any important files to CD, DVD, or external drive, as you will be completely erasing the contents of the hard drive using my method.
The discs that came with your PowerBook should include one labelled something like "PowerBook G4 15-inch and 17-inch Mac OS X Install Disc 1". If you insert this disc into your PowerBook, you will see an application on the disc entitled "Install Mac OS X" (or similar). If you run this program, it will restart your PowerBook and enter the OS X installer.
During the process of going through this installer, at some stage (I can't remember exactly when) a button entitled "Customize" or "Options" will appear. If you click on this, it will give you several options for your new install of OS X - "Upgrade and Install", "Archive and Install", and "Erase and Install".
I don't personally know if the other two would have any effect on your battery issues, as I haven't tried them myself in regard to this particular program. Again, I must stress that if you follow this method you will erase all data from your hard drive during the process, and lose any of your documents etc. I would recommend backing up all of your data prior to trying this as a method. The Apple Store or AppleCare may also be able to offer more information on the Erase & Install method or backing up your data.
I hope that's of some use to you,
    Tim Whitmore

  • T42P replacement battery working fine then not recognized

I purchased a replacement battery about 10 months ago and everything was working great until October when it appeared to stop accepting a charge (blinking orange LED) and the battery gauge read nothing.  The OEM battery (4 years old) still works, accepts a charge and works fine in the laptop.
When the battery was returned under warranty to the battery vendor, they indicated that there is nothing wrong with battery, it works in their laptops and holds a charge.  They think it is a software issue caused by an update.
I installed Batt Stat and Battery Monitor to validate the charge.  Batt Stat says no battery is installed and Battery Monitor indicates a 100% charge while on AC.  When I pull the AC plug from the laptop it immediately goes into hibernation.  No time to check battery status.
    What is going on?

I am having the exact same problem with a dell 9200. After an automatic update my new replacement battery is no longer recognized. The computer was on over night, so the battery is completely drained. The same thing happened about a month or so ago, and then one day "spontaneously" fixed itself. My hibernate mode is turned off, but that doesn't change anything. Someone suggested I update the bios, but I can't because that can only be done with a working battery. In any regard I'm sure my bios is up to date (last release 2005, and updated this year). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Can not start X when the laptop boots from battery

    Hi,
I have just found out recently that X doesn't start when i boot my laptop from battery. After the daemons are run, X is started and then shows me a blank black screen. Ctrl-Alt-Del or Ctrl-Alt-Backspace don't work. And i can't change tty like Ctrl-Alt-F1 to escape to the console. It just hangs.
When power cable is plugged then the laptop works just fine. Even if i pull the cable out afterwards, it continues working on battery mode.
What can be the reason ? Has anyone the same problem ?

    Hi,
the steps provided above helps you to remove the static charge stored on your computer. it may resolve several issue caused by static charge storage. however in your case it might be an issue with the battery connectors or the damaged AC adapter which is not providing enough power to charge the battery or power on the laptop or both.
please try with another AC adapter.
