Laptop speakers work, headphone jack crackles, pops, noise but no audio

The internal switch in the audio output port is stuck. Try inserting the earphone plug a few times. If no success, try jiggling a tooth pick inside in order to trip the switch.. If still no success, have the technicians at the Apple store genius bar do it for you.

I have this same problem going on.
When I slide to turn the phone on I get the familiar click, but after that...nothing comes out the speakers. No music, no clicks, no nothing. In the Music (iPod) app, if I push the + or - volume controls, nothing shows up on the screen to indicating increasing or decreasing volume. From the home screen, pushing the + or - volume controls will cause the ringer icon to display, but without the volume bar indicating the volume level.
If i plug the headphone in then everything works fine. However sometimes, when listening to music, the sound stops. I can get it to work by unplugging the headphone jack and plugging it back in a few times.
I have DFU'd my phone but that didn't change anything.
I set up an appointment for tonight with support. I'll let you know how it goes.

Can you get into an Apple Store to have someone take a look at it? If there is something wedged into the headphone jack, I don't know if there is much you can do about it.

Thanks restoring and restarting didn't fix my problem - i have started it fresh and still it doesn't work. Basically I press ONCE on the remote, after the machine has not had any commands for 10 minutes, and the cursor skips from one end of the menu to the other - so I can't choose network or update software etc - I sometimes manage to stop it randomly in the middle of the menu if I press on a command in the middle of the cursor skipping all the menu steps...not sure what the problem is but I have basically not used my brand new apple tv since I bought it for that reason! I should call Apple support I suppose! grrrr hate wasting time with stuff like this!

HP 2000 laptop audio stopped working- internal speakers and headphone jack

FOr the past few days the audio/speakers to my laptop have been going off, and then back on after a bit.Today I was in the middle of watching amovie when it stopped again, and everything Ive tried so far hasn't worked (going to restart netxt) . I tried plugging in my earbuds but the audio jack isn't working. Im also getting the Smos 502 error, and Im not sure if they're connected. I have the HP 2000 model C2N25UA#ABA

I was wrong - I did upgrade to a 3 yr warranty (had forgotten about this) so hopefully it's covered!

Speakers/Headphones Emitting "clicking/popping" Noise

I am having a really hard time explaining this, so please bear with me while I try to explain it.
I purchased my macbook pro at the end of January. A few weeks later, I noticed that there was a "clicking" or "popping" noise coming from the laptop. Thinking it was the hard drive, I kept a close ear to the computer, only to realize when I had my headphones on that the noise was coming from the speakers.
The noise comes at random and is just a random series of clicks/pops. I cant seem to figure out what is causing this issue. This happens regardless of whether I am plugged in to a wall outlet or on battery, eliminating the possible cause of a power issue. This leads me to a possible hardware issue in the sound card.
Has anyone else ever experienced this issue? Is this something I need to take to the Genius bar to have looked at? Its gotten very annoying as I'm a bit of an audiophile and it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Ok I'm not sure if we're having the same issue now. What my problem was I would hear a ticking sound at random moments, usually twice at a time. I did some further research myself after going to the Apple Store and them not finding anything that stood out. It turned out to be the (SMS) Sudden Motion Sensor that I was hearing. Random annoying little sound that I could also hear in my headphones. I usually work on my laptop on my lap and it moves a little bit at a time and shifts largely when i get up or move around. Sudden and distinct movements activate SMS which is intended to save your HDD and its data from damage from being dropped. I was able to find instructions on how to disable it to do some testing and that confirmed it. So I'd recommend checking this link out. This might be the issue you've been having as well. Good Luck.

I don't think I have anything to offer that you haven't done. In Device Manager, Device status says "working properly" and you've reinstalled this driver.

Speakers and Headphone Jack stopped working

I own an HP Envy 17 3D (1195ea). Its running Win7 64 Pro.
Yesterday the laptop was working perfectly fine. I didnt move it and it stayed on the same desk. When I shut it down last night (12th Sept) it was working with both the speakers and headphones. This morning I turned it on and it applied some windows updates. I then tried to play some MP3s and there was no sound coming out of either the speakers or headphones.
I have done a system restore to the 31st Aug to see if that solves the issue without any luck. I have also downloaded the latest drivers for the Audio and both uninstalled the old ones and then installed the latest with no fix.
As far as windows is concerned the sound card is working as advertised. The audio is playing according to VLC, Winamp and WMP and there are no problems with the hardware in the Device Manager. I have also used the windows troubleshooter in control panel and that comes back with no problems.
If I run the beats software and plug in my headphones it detects the headphones so the socket is working correctly. Just with no sound. Equally when I unplug them it switches back to speaker mode.
Audio is still working over HDMI on my TV as well.
I am by no means a noob with computers and have built a number from scratch but I am literally stumped by this.
Any ideas?

iMac PowerPCs being over 8 years old are due for a new PRAM battery every 4 or so years. This may affect your output settings. If your PRAM battery is less than 4 years old, then you may need to modify the Audio Midi Setup application, or rest the PRAM. PowerPC Macs stopped being sold new in 2006.
If your Mac is newer, you posted in the wrong forum. If it is the same year, go to Apple menu -> About This to find if it is PPC (PowerPC, PowerMac), or Intel.

T400 speakers not working - headphone jack functional?!?

That happened some weeks ago, no software or hardware changes were made prior to speakers gone mute. The other day however speakers were back from malfunction and operative again 100% - for no apparent reason, but as soon i plugged headphone jack in and out - they were gone again!?!? Is there a catch or something that i'm doing wrong!?!? I've tried: removing and reinstalling sound card drivers (no success), different OS (no success), checked headphone jack for foreign objects (found nothing, it looks ok in comparison to other jack (microphone)). No warranty on this machine (expired). Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance.

Hello all!
I have had lots of problems installing my Audigy2 ZS Video Editor, but I have finally got it to work (at least under limited conditions).
When I start my laptop, I have to start Windows Media Player right away in order for the music to sound OK (I have the Audigy2 connected to a Pioneer receiver through a digital coax cable).
If I start any other program first (e.g., Microsoft Explorer, Outlook, Word, quicktime) sound from the soundcard is heavily contaminated with crackling, popping and just general noise. The only way to get it to work again is to reboot.
The same problem occurs if I start another media program e.g., Quicktime, winamp, (after having started Windows Media Player) that accesses the soundcard. The only way to get good sound again is to reboot and immediately start Microsoft Media Player.
I have tried lots of things including cleensweep, re-installation, driver update etc. etc...
What is the problem? Is there a cure? Can I adjust some settings to get it to work or is it a serious bug?
If anyone knows what may be the problem and how to solve it, please advise!!!

Input won't work, Headphone jack's gone mono

A little while back I was doing some home recording running direct into my Macbook.
After doing a bass track I lost all direct input signal and ever since I can only hear the left side through the headphone jack.
The bass player I was recording failed to mention we were running 4ohms out the back of his amp and I think it may have blown my input/output. The internal speakers still work so I think the sound card is fine.
Any insight on this would be wonderfully help full.

yip it sounds like you have fried a circuit..
have u tried different head phones? the input/output should be different circuits so not sure y the output is going funny?
you looked at the input/output settings on the macbook?? what about the "AUDIO MIDI SETUP"?? it may have an inbuilt cutoff that tripped??? well hopping it has for ur sake..
