LaserJet Pro P1606dn and Windows 8 problems

I recently upgraded an office of 7 computers to Windows 8. The office has a networked LaserJet P1606dn printer. I had pre-installed the driver, downloaded from the HP website, onto the new computers. I had Group Policy Preferences push out the new printer to the computers. When I went to print a test page from one of the computers, it began printing an endless amount of the same test page! So I disabled the group policy and, using Print Manager, I manually uninstalled and re-installed the printer and print driver. I tried another test page and it printed only one page but it displays an error on the computer saying that the page failed to print. I've tried switching the driver to the one from Windows Update but it gives the same results. I've tested this on all 7 of the computers with the same results. Any ideas?

  • HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn ip address change automatic

i have a HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn, there is problem with IP Address, ip address change automatic in this reason i am not able to use the printer, pls solve my problem....

    Hi @Naksain,
I see by your post that the printer's IP address changed automatically and you can't use the printer now. I can help you with this.
From the Configuration page, get the printer's IPV4 address, try and access the Embedded Web Server for the printer.
Type the IP address into your web browser's address bar. (Internet Explorer)
    Printing a Configuration Page.
If you can still access the printer's Embedded Web Server, then create a new port with the new IPV4 address.
Go to start, devices and printers, right click the printer, go to printer properties, select the ports tab.
Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
Type in the proper IP address for the printer.
Make sure the printer is online.
    Test the printer.
Setup a Static IP address for the printer, this way the printer will keep the assigned port.
Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
Disregard the title. Under Windows, go to Solution four: Assign your printer a static IP address.
Just use the IPV4 address already assigned to the printer.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Yes, you need your own copy of WinXP (I used the one that came with VPC) but I'm afraid I have some good news/bad news to report. The good news is that WinXP does run a bit faster than VPC did on my dual processor G4 - the bad news is that XPs hardware detection DOES NOT - and I could find no way t force it - to recognize any USB or Firewire devices. Because I use Windows primarily to connect to USB GPS devices, this was a real letdown (and would be to users who need to, oh, I don't know, PRINT from Windows).
I'd love to hear from anyone has Windows actually functioning under OpenOSX Wintel - the website only goes as far a getting it to install and running Explorer (which I was able to do). I also had numerous keyboard problems: sometimes Windows would accept no input from the keyboard, sometimes it would reverse the caps lock key (on produced lowercase letters, off all uppercase). It also does not recognize the Apple Mighty Mouse as a two-button mouse. A number of these problems were - somehow - fixed by VPC which I never had a problem with when it came to USB devices (at least it DOES recognize a 'network card' and I can use Internet Explorer - whoopee!).
I'm going to play with this some more before throwing in the towel but I'm not so certain that I'm going to work towards the dual boot solution until I hear that Windows and Windows apps actually function - like being able to print or recognize a USB device.
Just getting Windows to install and run is of little good if it doesn't actually provide simple functionality.

We have a HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer. We initally put this on our print server. But almost immediately it goes offline. Current settings:

Since it was so problematic - we took it off the printer server and are allowing access via IP (not going through our prit server) and it is behaving the same way.

  • HP LaserJet Pro P1606DN compatible w/ Airport Express?

I am going to be purchasing a new Mac Pro and would like to be able to print wirelessly to a laser printer. I like the HP LaserJet Pro P1606DN, but it is not a wireless printer, per se.
I understand after speaking with an Apple representative that a non-wireless printer (assuming it has the right drivers) can be plugged directly into the Airport Express via USB, which will allow a Mac Pro with an Airport card installed to print to it wirelessly.
    So, I have two questions:
    1) Does the HP printer mentioned above have the proper drivers (or is otherwise compatible) to work with the Airport Express?
    2) Will the configuration I mentioned above work, assuming the printer is compatible with Airport Express?
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

It should work just fine.  Your Mac Pro does not have to be wirelessly connected to your network for it to work, a wired connection will also work (unless the Airport Express will not be on your network but rather just stand-alone).

Hello @debadmin1, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing toner issues.  I would like to help.
I would recommend performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would then recommend this document on 'Install Black Cartridge' Message Displays on the Control Panel or Blinking Toner Light Displays on ...

    Hi kacb,
You can locate your ePrint email address in the ePrint Center, or if you haven't created an account yet, you can also locate the email address within the EWS of the printer. To access the EWS, put the printers IP address into a web browser on your PC.

  • HELP! Problem using HPSCAN.exe or TWAIN driver for HP Laserjet Pro cm1415fnw using Windows 7

I have been using the HP Laserjet Pro cm1415fnw for over a year without a problem.  At the time when I first purchased the unit, I was using a Dell desktop with Windows XP and connected the printer via USB port.  I was able to print and scan from my computer, including from within applications that use TWAIN scanning driver such as Word, Acrobat, etc.
I have since upgraded to an HP slimline s5-1160 computer using Windows 7.  I installed the Laserjet software from my installation CD's without a problem.  The printer is connected to the computer by USB port.  I can continue to print without a problem.  However, I no longer am able to scan using the HP software (HPscan.exe) nor from within applications that use TWAIN scanning driver such as Word, Acrobat, etc.  When I attempt to do so, it takes a long time before it asks me what TWAIN scan driver to select.  When I select the HP cm1410 MFP series, the program either crashes or reverts to the state it was before I attempted to scan an image into a document from within the program.
I can however scan successfully using the Windows Scan and Fax wizard or if I choose "Devices and Printers" from the Start Menu and select "Start scan" from the menu after right-clicking the HP printer icon.  However this option limits my use of the scanner -- I cannot scan to a PDF nor can I scan multiple pages into an OCR application.  I'm forced to scan to either a JPG or TIF or PNG.
As for attempting to resolve this problem I have done the following with no success:
Uninstall and reinstall the full software and drivers (and using the most recent version on the HP website)
    Change USB ports and/or cables
Run the HP scan diagnostic utility, which seems to show an error at the WIA scanning step and then recommends that I uuninstall and reinstall the full software.  When I skip that and allow it to check for TWAIN scanning, it gives me a similar error, suggesting that I use the most recent version of the drivers (the driver that I am using is v 3.0 dated 11/12/2009)  Therefore in this case the HP scan diagnostic utility does NOT provide a fix for this problem other than uninstall and reinstall, which I have done several times to no avail
Contact HP support both for the computer and the multifunction printer (which as I understand are different support staff).  The printer staff claims it's a software problem and that the computer staff should be able to resolve it (something about not having "launchpad" installed properly.  When I contact the computer staff, they claim it's a printer driver issue.  So I am at a standstill
I researched the HP support forums only to find from this link - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02661093&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4089468&tmp... - that if you cannot scan from HP software that you can use the programs that rely on WIA drivers (Windows Fax and Scan) which I already know I can do but implies that HP does NOT have a solution for how to scan using their own software!
My gut tells me that this is one of those problems that many others may have but for which there is no workable solution.  It's possible that during the course of uninstalling and reinstalling the software, remnants may remain behind that prevent proper functioning of the drivers, but without knowing how to specifically "clean" those remnants before reinstalling the software, I am at a loss.  Oh and by the way, I've also tried using CCleaner and Norton Registry Cleaner in an attempt to clean those remnants, but that effort didn't help.
My question is basically this... does anyone know of a fix around this problem or must I resign myself to using the Windows Fax and Scan wizard to scan in documents and images and forget about using TWAIN programs as HP seems to be suggesting?  I would think that given that I am using an HP printer/scanner along with an HP computer with Windows 7 that this problem should NOT be a problem!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Before attempting to install the printer on my computer (HP slimline s5-1160), I had been able to successfully install the printer previously on two other computers: a Lenovo T-410 laptop (work computer using Windows XP) and an HP Pavilion Elite HPE (wife's computer using Windows 7).
On those computers, I can use the TWAIN driver from within applications without a problem, and the HPSCAN.exe file works as well.  Both computers connect to the printer wirelessly.
It is while trying to install the printer on my home computer via USB that I am having all sorts of difficulty. I have also tried to connect my s5-1160 to the printer wirelessly from my computer. I also checked the Windows Services, and all seems fine there.  I also tried switching USB ports and cables.   Again, no luck with the scanning using TWAIN driver.
One other point: when I use the original installation CD that came with the printer to install on the s5-1160, the installation seems to stop when it says "Checking requirements for installation"  That didn't happen with the two other computers.   However, that problem doesn't happen the s5-1160 when I used the more recent version of the full software from the HP website.
Let me reiterate.  I have never had any problems with printing from any computer.  The scanner works fine from my s5-1160 if I resort to using the scanner and fax wizard using the WIA drivers.  What I am unable to do is to get the scanner to work from within an application using the TWAIN driver or if I use the native HP application (hpscan.exe).  Nothing seems to happen.   Because of that I cannot scan directly into a PDF.
And the only fix that the HP scan diagnostic utility continues to recommend is that I uninstall and reinstall the software.  It shows errors in the WIA scanning step and TWAIN step.
Is it possible that because of behind-the-scenes Windows updates that my s5-1160 is receiving that a software conflict is created that prevents the TWAIN driver from functioning properly?  Other than that I am at a loss to figure out why this is happening.

  • Quark Xpress shows err "Spooler Subsystem App needs to close" - HP Laserjet Pro P1606DN

Purchased a new HP Laserjet Pro P1606 DN network printer. Installation went smooth on all computers.
When people tried to print from Quark Xpress, the document get spooled and loaded to the print queue and then we get the error "Spooler subsystem app experienced a problem and needs to close"
The recovery has been set to "restart the service" for print spooler.
Users are able to print from other applications.
Just found a thread that stated to disable Advanced Printer settings on the Advanced tab of Properties. Checked but the issue still persists.
Users are on Windows XP and printer was using the smart install from the printer.
Kindly advise if there is something else to tweak in the printer properties or something to tweak in Quark Xpress v6.1.
thanks in advance for the support

    Hi Opp1,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand you are unable to reinstall the printer software.
I will be happy to help you.
The print spooler is part of the Windows operating system and if it doesn't stay running the printer software won't install or print.
You could try the following steps to see if this will resolve the issue.
Normally with spooler problems the first thing to do is to clear the print queue.
Open a Run window (Windows Logo key+R), type cmd and press Enter.
Now type these commands, which are in capitals for clarity:
NET STOP SPOOLER and press Enter
    DEL %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\PRINTERS\*.* and press Enter
NET START SPOOLER and press Enter
    EXIT and press Enter
If you are still having issues with the print spooler stopped then right click on the start button, left click on explore, open the windows folder, open system32 folder, open the spool folder, open the printer's folder, then delete everything on the right window.
Then go back and try and start the print spooler again.
Run a full uninstall of the printer software. Disconnect the USB cable.
    To uninstall from CD:
    Go start and select computer.
Right click on the CD for the printer and left click open in a new window.
    Double click on uninstall.
Uninstall printer from the C Drive.
Go to start, computer, c:, windows, program files or program files x86, HP, printer name. Double click uninstall. Restart the computer.
Check to make sure the print spooler is running.
Ran the installation again. Don't connect the USB cable until prompted.
If the print spooler stops again you will need to contact the computer manufacturer to resolve this issue.
    Hope this helps.

  • HP LaserJet Pro M127fn - fax sending problem - busy status all time

everytime i try to print via word or other app and choose the fax printer from the program, it opens the wizzard to enter options and number but then it gets into a busy loop, spooling etc,  and I cannot send it.
why?  the machine was working fine when i firt bought it 2 weeks ago.
from the machine itself it's working  but from the computer choosing the printer it does not.  the same with other PC from same workgroup.
i tried uninstalling and deleting the printers as well but the problem keeps on.

Thanks for providing the screen shot georgi0.
Since you can't do the system restore, check and remove any recent Windows Updates, to see if that will fix this issue.
Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
In the left pane, click View update history.
Do you have full Admin Rights on the computer?
With that error you are getting, I would restart the Print Spooler on the computer to see if it helps.
Click Start (), type services.msc in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.
Double click on Print Spooler in the list.
Click on Stop and then Start.
Close that window and restart the computer.
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it.
It might show a issue with the software installed.
Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
Check the Devices and Printers folder to see if you have a icon for the fax and the printer icon.
How does it list the printer name and fax? (LaserJet Pro M127fn/fax or Universal PCL 6)
Follow the steps in this document to get to the device manager to check for the printer entries. See if you have any conflicts for the fax driver. Also check devices and printers, to see if there is a icon for the fax.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Then go to View, Show Hidden Devices. Check through the list for the printer entries. You might have to click on all the + signs to check under the headings. Open Printers, it should list the printer name and fax there and possibly under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Look for anything with a ! mark on it. Right click and update the device.
If it isn't listed then go to Action across the top of the screen and Scan for hardware changes.
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
How was the printer entries listed?
Please let me know the results.

What i would suggest is to remove all of HP printer S/W and install it back...
Go to control panel>add or remove programs> uninstall any program related to the HP printer....
Restart the computer and reinstall the printer S/W
    Hope this works.......
