passwords are case sensitive
people who don't change the default SSID of their wifi network can easyly confuse their wifi network with others within range where the user own the same router type and also didn't change the default password -
For all those out there with Iphone5 WIFI issues,Please READ THIS
I pre-ordered my iphone 5 (Black) got that last week. Quickly backed up my Iphone 4 and Restored my iphone 5.The first thing i checked to see is connecting to my WIFI network at home. And i kept getting a message "UNABLE TO CONNECT TO THE NETWORK". I had the iphone 4 aside and i can see iphone 4 is connected just fine. So are my laptop, Ipad and other devices.
So what is different in Iphone5?
After couple of days of head banging, and phone calls with apple support. I finally gave up and went to a apple store , they said, They have not heard any WIFI issues and my case was the first , However to keep me happy they said they will replace my device, But if have the same issue ,they will NOT be able to replace it again. And they even showed me the new iphoen connects to their "Non-secured" apple WIFI network.
So i take the new phone home, and the first thing i try is connecting to WIFI.And i still get "Unable to connect to the wifi network ".And i still can see Iphone 4 working fine and connecting to the same network just fine. With the second iphone5 also not working, I realized it is not hardware, but something surely changed with WIFI in iphone 5. I have a NETGEAR router with its latest firmware installed(2.0.26). I then downgraded my firmware to 2.0.21, then gave a shot.
BINGO..Iphone 5 works fine connects to wifi.and so is my iphone4 too.
So for all those users out there, the fact is something changed in iphone 5 WIFI algorithm. And if anyone really disagrees with me on this, I am going to post a video to demonstrate on YOUTUBE. I believe it is completely UNFAIR for apple to now ask you Upgrade/change your router or its firmware. And it is not fair for router companies to Fix anything to make their firmware compatible with iphone5.
So iphone 5 Users, Please lets us all push for a fix on this issue. WE WANT FIX.I can't tell you how frustrated/disappointed I was when this exact situation happened to me. I upgraded my wife's iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5 just to find out that it wouldn't connect to my home wifi but would connect everywhere else. Guess what...
I found a fix!!
On you iPhone go to Settings, General, About, scroll to "WiFi Address". Now stay there.
Log-in to your modem thru your web browser via IP Address. (Keep in mind, I use a 2Wire modem, yours may be different) Clicked "Wireless" for wireless settings, scrolled down to "MAC Filtering" and clicked "Edit Allowed/Blocked Device List". At the bottom, there's a field to which you can manually enter a MAC address to you allow or block. If you're using a different modem with different menus/options, just browse around til you find a similar option of manually adding MAC addresses for access or blocking.
MAC Address = Wifi Address. See where i'm going with this?
Type the WiFi Address from you iPhone in the MAC address field, click "Add to List". If MAC filtering is enabled, it'll be added to the BLOCK list, simply click on the address, and click the double arrow pointing towards the ALLOW list so it'll transfer lists to where you want it, then click save.
Now go back to your iPhone and attempt to re-connect to your wifi network as you normally would & voila!
This worked for me, i hope it works for you as well. -
Connect MacBook to wifi network via Ethernet
I am looking for a way to connect my MacBook to my wifi network via my Ethernet port. I'm not having any trouble with the wifi but am looking at getting an apple tv and wish to be able to use wolan. As far as I know, wowlan is only available using the apple airport routers. Is there something I can get that plugs into my Ethernet port on my MacBook, connects to the wifi network and lets my MacBook treat it as a wired connection so I can use wolan? I assume something like this would. E cheaper than buying an apple router that supports wowlan...?
Also, how do I make sure that my current router actually supports wolan?
Thanks.We assume that you are trying to configure the AirPort Express to "join" your wireless network. In order to do so, you must enter in the wireless network name, exact type of security and password that your network is using.
Mistakes are often made with the security settings because different manufacturers use different nomenclature to mean the same thing. For example
WPA2 Personal on Apple = WPA2-PSK-AES on other wireless routers
or
WPA/WPA2 Personal on Apple = WPA-PSK-TKIP on other wireless routers
Can you dig a bit deeper into your settings on your router to find out whether you are using AES or TKIP? Once you find that info, you should be able to match up the correct setting on the AirPort Express during the configuration.
Don't be fooled by the the message that you see when you click Update during the configuration process. The message states something to the effect that the settings have been stored successfully on the AirPort Express. What it doe not tell you is whether the settings that were stored are the correct settings.
You will know that you have the correct settings when you see a green light on the AirPort Express 40-45 seconds after you click the Update button. -
Can't send emails from a btinternet address unless connected to a WiFi network
I am a UK user with an iPhone 5 and Vodafone as my ISP. After installing IOS 7 both gmail and btinternet addresses continued to work well until I upgraded to IOS 7.0.2 since when while I have been able to receive emails with a btinternet address I cannot send when not connected to a WiFi network and 3G makes no difference - gmail will still receive and send however.
Does anyone have a solution please?
Mike SearchfieldReally hard to diagnose without being there, but check with your friend that they don't have any softward filters on wireless router that block ports etc. If it's not your friends wireless, it could be something much more simple like needing to just restart your ipad to reset settings. I would like to control my MacMini (Late 2012) 2.3GHz Intel Quad Core i7 processor directly from my iOS device, either my iPhone 6 or my iPad G3. By directly I mean without having a wireless or wired network in place.
I know there are a number of iOS apps that utilize VNC technology but I believe they all require the Mac to be connected via WiFi to an Airport or similar wireless networking device. I would like to control my MacMini remotely without having it already connected to a WiFi network and wondered is it possible? The iOS device and Mac would be in close proximity to one another.
Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks.Guys, thanks but I did not mean to control it by infrared. I know only too well that iOS devices do not have that capability. However they and the Mac both can send and receive WiFi signals so is there any reason they can't talk to each other directly.
When I am in my home I have an airport but I would like to take the Mac Mini out on music gigs with my Apollo interface which serves as my mic preamp and mixer as it does in my studio but the Apollo needs to be connected to the mac via thunderbolt to download the plugin software that provides reverb and eq, etc. I would like to do this without the need of a monitor and keyboard, hence my dilemma. The only thing I basically need to do is start the mini and the rest happens automatically but I need to also shut down (which I know can be accomplished a couple of ways) but with out having a visual interface you can't make any changes or verify what setting are being used. -
HT1695 Did iOS 6.0.2 update, but still can't connect to certain WiFi networks. FIX THIS, APPLE!
Like the subject line says, I installed the 6.0.2. update with my fingers crossed, but my iPhone 5 still doesn't connect to certain networks. Of course, Apple in their "Troubleshooter" sends me to an article telling me how to connect to a WiFi network, and to reset Network settings (which I've done numerous times).
This happens in a local coffee shop, and one odd thing is that the owner thinks he has his router set to require a password, but none of my devices show it to be a secured network (though it was and did require a password when I initially joined the network).

Why can't I send e-mail when connected to some WiFi networks?
At times when I can connected to other WiFi networks, I cannot send e-mail.
I'm not sure if this is something in the settings for my e-mail, or related to the WiFi network.
I am able to receive e-mails at that time.Check that you have set up the OUTGOING server as well as the incoming server. Follow the instructions in this technical support article to get to your outgoing server configuration. If none is configured, use the instructions to add the outgoing server according to your email provider's instructions. If one is configured, verify that it is set up correctly.

my ipod 5 was just recently stolen in a waterpark (same with my best friend) and when i went on to find my ipod I pressed play sound and lost mode but it never successfully did all those things because my ipod wasn't or isn't connected to a wifi network as it says in the app. so how will I ever find my ipod if it never is going to connect to a wifi network without the thief accessing my ipod (I have a passcode). and also when I check the app once in a while it says ipod is online but cannot find location, so does that mean the thief is using my ipod or is trying to get in?
Yo are correct. It has to connect to internet for the FindMyiPhne features to be transmitted to the iPod

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up or conbtinue to show off-line.
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.

I have accidentally deleted my alternate iCloud (email) address. Are there any possibilities to retrieve it back because my iPad is connected to that email address, and now, I can't log out from it on my iPad, because it doesn't exist.
I have alternate icloud email attached to my iPad and I accidentally delete it from appleid.apple.com. And now I can't log out that iCloud account because it doesn't exist and it can't recognize my password.If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple IDand that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.
