Latency in Mobile Services REST on Load/Possible Timeout

Hi all,
I am using Mobile Services to host data accessible via REST. I have noticed that if I don't visit the REST endpoint (Or the site exposing the data) that it takes 7-10 seconds to load. After which, I don't have this load time... as long as I keep hitting
the service. Is there a timeout on the Web Service? Is there a way to keep it always on, as this is killing the user experience?
I am using the Free Mobile Tier.
Thanks,
Kelly

Hi Kelly,
The Free tier is for development testing only.  You need to move up to basic.  The Free tier is hosted on a machine with other free services and when not used is spun down to conserver resources.

  • Integrating a PHP Web App with an Existing Azure Mobile Services and Mobile App

I've got an existing mobile app that is integrated with Azure's mobile services. The mobile services are currently connected to Azure Active Directory with MFA enabled. I'd like to build a separate PHP-based web application (Azure VM) that uses this existing
    mobile service and authentication.
I reviewed the Azure PHP SDK, but didn't see any tie-ins to the Mobile Service. Additionally, Azure has some great tutorials, but for mobile services they all seem to focus on iOS, Android, and Windows phone. Any insight into how to tie a PHP-app into this
    backend would be much appreciated!

Although there isn't any client library for PHP, you can still access Mobile Service using the
    Azure Mobile Service REST API.

  • Usage Overview for Mobile Services not populating

I've tried multiple times in the past few weeks as well as on different computers, connections, and browsers. Every time the dashboard of my Mobile Service shows only "loading..." for all metrics in the Usage Overview area.
    Is this being investigated/triaged?

  • Cannot connect to Azure Mobile Services as DataSource

I've created an Azure Mobile Service which is using .NET backend.
Project Siena isn't able to connect or work against this kind of data source.
    Error message is
An error occurred connecting to Azure Mobile Service
I have also tried to create zz_config support table, and implement a custom TableController for serving the URI
tables/zz_config but I could only got few steps further, still without the possibility to read and use the model exposed by Mobile Services
This behavior has been reproduced with both Beta 2 and Beta 3
P.S. Adding the AMS as REST data source makes possible to import and use the model exposed. The operation of association in this case must be done per-table in Siena
Wheb can we expect Siena to work well together with the new version of Azure Mobile Services?

Yes, that article is indeed precise and updated. I followed all steps described properly, especially for the part about setting up the database structure, and create
zz_config table (second post of the series)
I can connect to AMS (JS Backend) with Siena, but tables' names aren't showing up correctly, but display as
undefined, and from there on doesn't work properly.
JSON object returned from GET /tables/zz_config?$filter=(Key%20eq%20'table')
    "id": "ccb9c9a8-9bae-41c8-87aa-277e2e0d1379",
    "key": "table",
    "value": "users"
I do confirm I have the same (incorrect) behavior using a .NET Backend where I set up
zz_config table and create a TableController mapped with it; with route
    tables/zz_config
I confirm also I had the same behavior this morning with Beta 2, before I installed Beta 3.
P.S. The error message reported in my first post is returned only when the table
zz_config isn't setup correctly on AMS

  • Azure Mobile Services and ASP Identity - Exception when using UserManager

    I've reviewed
this post in the AMS forum and it doesn't really answer the question. I already know how to integrate authentication, but Identity implements a lot of boilerplate user management code that I don't want to have to reproduce.  My question is: Is it possible
to use Asp Identity framework with Azure Mobile Services? Since AMS Back End has Microsoft ASP.NET Identity Core/Owin as dependencies, I would think that the answer is yes, that they are compatible?
I have been progressing as if it were possible, but yet, now when I go to try to use the Identity UserManager, I am getting the exception stated in
this asp.net identity bug. Are there references in Azure Mobile Services Back End to previous versions of Microsoft.AspNet.Identity that would result in mismatched assembly versions?
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Asp.Net Identity, even to the pre-release of 2.2.0, but I am still getting the exception that it couldn't load the CultureAwaiter. I have asked in that post if the bug has been fixed, but from the scant evidence of
the posts and lack of responses, I would think that the bug has been fixed.
    ibGib

The bug referenced in the original post shows that the required version is 2.1. I found that when I published to Azure, even though I had the correct (2.1) versions of the NuGet packages installed, the loaded dlls were not the correct versions. I do not
know if this is an Azure problem or an Azure Mobile Services problem.
I came to this conclusion by looking at the loaded Identity dlls in a new, up-to-date mvc app, and then looking at the same loaded dlls while debugging in Azure. The Azure dlls are older versions than the up-to-date MVC app versions. I figure that somewhere
along the lines, Azure Mobile Services is loading the incorrect version of the Identity dlls, even though I have the correct versions installed via NuGet. Maybe there is another explanation.
But regardless, I should be able to use the up-to-date versions of Identity in order to address bugs in the Identity framework. It would be nice if an AMS person would clarify about the dll versioning. I did come across
this SO comment by someone who seems to be an AMS guru, but it doesn't seem to make sense. It does, however, seem to corroborate my and BinLaw's observed behavior of the backend dlls.

Yes, GroupWise Mobility Service 2.0 is only supported on SLES11 SP2 &
SP3 and not SLES11 SP1 as mentioned in the original post.
I seem to recall a bug within YaST on a previous version of SLES
relating to selecting an ISO although I'm sure that's not the reason why
    SLES11 SP1 isn't supported - that's to do with SLES11 SP1 no longer
being supported by SUSE (and SLES11 SP2 also soon won't be supported).

  • SQL connection errors when stress testing mobile service: SQL failure after 3 attempts

I have created a Mobile Service (node.js), which has been running for a few months with 50-100k api calls per day with no issues.
The usage of the service will be scaled up soon, and it will receive much higher traffic, so I am running stress tests (on a staging deployment of the same service).
The api in question queries data from the sql database that is attached to the mobile service, but caches the resulting data in a redis database for 5 minutes, so each call with identical parameters will not access the SQL database, just the redis cache.
My first test never has any problems:
Run a single api calls as fast as possible using the program wrk (https://github.com/wg/wrk). This test never has a problem, and I have run it an hour continuously with a sustained rate of 200 req/s and very few timeout errors.
The second test always causes problems:
I created a list of 5 different api calls to the same service (same endpoint, but different parameters), and I run those randomly interweaved as fast as possible. I use the program locust (http://locust.io) for this, spawing 10.000 clients at a rate of 500
per second. For the first few seconds everything goes ok, but then connections start failing massively.
    I get mostly:
Error: SQL failure after 3 attempts. Error: [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]TCP Provider: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected
    host has failed to respond.
     (SqlState: 08001, Code: 10060)
And I see this in the http response:
ConnectionError(ProtocolError('Connection aborted.', gaierror(8, 'nodename nor servname provided, or not known')),)
The strange thing is that since I am running the same five calls repeatedly, only the very first of each call will actually access the sql database, every subsequent call will just return data directly from redis, and not try to access the sql database at
    all.
In the azure console for the sql database in question, I see 1860 successful connections and 11 failed connections, which does not explain the massive failure rate I am seeing.

Thanks for sharing your tips on this forum, as it will be useful for other users, that run into this issue.
Feedback like this will also help us improve error reporting in the next release, as missing class files in the packaged application is a common issue when developers are moving from the embeded oc4j instance packaged with JDewveloper to standalone instances.

  • How to upload image in windows azure mobile service from android?

I am new in android I am using windows azure mobile service and I am Inserting Text data successfully but now I want to Upload Image in windows azure mobile service. I know its is possible by Azure Storage I have seen this chrisrisner post but
its confusing can anyone tell me simple step by step process to save image in windows azure mobile service.
I will be Very Grateful for you. its very urgent

    Hello Nitesh,
Saving an image into Azure Mobile Services doesn't scale very well and it's not recommended. It's recommended to use Azure Blob Storage for blob storage. It's cheaper and can store larger files.
You can definitely use both Azure Mobile Services and Blob Storage together by saving the name of the image in your Mobile Services table and storing the actual file in the Blob storage. This way when you need to retrieve the actual image, you would retrieve
it by it's name from Blob storage.
Here's a MSDN article that explains how to use
    Azure Blob Storage.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Desktop Mgr 6 - "Music services failed to load"

    I've got a T-Mobile Curve 8520.
This afternoon I uninstalled Desktop Mgr 5.0.1 and Office 2007 (with Outlook). I then installed Office 2010 (with Outlook), and finally installed the new Desktop Manager 6.0.0.
Almost everything works, but when I try to go to the Music page in the new Desktop Manager I see this:
    Music services failed to load
    An unexpected error occurred.
I've confirmed that the media card is enabled to act as a Mass Storage Device. I've rebooted the laptop, and shut down and restarted the 8520. I've closed and opened and closed Outlook and Windows Media Player. Desktop Manager is configured to use WMP, not iTunes.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Steve
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks, I didn't even think of looking there. (Sure feel dumb now! )
An error I see in the log states "INNER EXCEPTION: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException -- MESSAGE: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values". The parameter involved relates to a path. It occurred to me that the problem may be due to my music library being stored on a NAS and not the local hard drive, so I removed that library and only used a music library on my D: drive (same physical drive as C: ), but the problem remained.
If I set the Desktop Manager software to use iTunes the music pane loads without problem.
I've attached the log to this post. Thanks for your help.

  • Difference between Mobile sales and Mobile Service

    Hi All
Can anybody help and explain me what are the major defferences between Mobile Sales and Mobile Service,What are the configuration settings required in Mobile Service,Because we have to start support project for Mobile Service.
    Regards
    Krishna

    Hi Krishna,
The difference is Mobile Service is used by field technicians who provide a service to customers. Eg: an engineer who goes out to customer site to fix machinery. They can fill out the deatils on the Mobile Service application. Time spent, parts used etc..
Sales is used by sales reps, who are selling a product.
The configuration is the same for both. In fact its possible to have bothe sales and service installed on the same machine.
    Regards,
    Gervase

  • Windows Mobile Service, getting started, doesn't work.

I have followed the instructions for creating a mobile data service (several times, under and existing and a new subscription, using an existing and a new database): create the service, download the todo app, build and run it locally (it works), change the
connection setting to Azure and get "Error loading items The request could not be completed (not found)".
    The instructions are at: http://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/documentation/articles/mobile-services-dotnet-backend-windows-store-dotnet-get-started/
Where do I go from here?

    ... cancel this.
If I ignore the instructions, I can get it to connect.

  • Setting up Azure SQL DB - Auditing w/ Mobile Services

I'm trying to set up Azure SQL DB - Auditing which requires a secure connection string to used by the client to actually do the logging. In my case that client is mobile services. I can see the current connection string that is used but I cannot modify it when
trying to configure mobile services in the azure portal. I'm using a nodejs back end.
I'm trying to follow the instructions here: azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/sql-database-auditing-get-started/
Is there some other way you change the connection string?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
As far as I am aware, when you set the webapp/cloudapp to connect to a database you will have to specify the connection string in the app. The app will hit the database which is mentioned in the  connection string you have specified. So it is not automatic
or Traffic manager. You have full control over it as you can tell your app to connect whichever database you want. The database could be located in any region, however the you have to keep latency in mind as the app in US Datacenter could be calling the Database
in EU, if that is  they way it is setup.
You can have separate databases in each region and use Azure Data Sync
to have the database synchronized, however please keep in mind that Azure Data Sync is in Preview.
    Regards,
    Mekh.
