Latency issue in Desktop Sharing

We are planning to develop a conferencing solution using LCCS. I am trying to evaluate the screen/desktop-sharing application. I am experiencing 5-10 seconds latency during the transfer of the screen data to the other end.
I am using the demo application(ScreenShareSubscriber and ScreenSharePublisher), provided in the SDK.
Some more details:
- Current OS is Windows 7 (32 bit).
- I am behind a proxy.
- I am running the applications in India.
- Using Flex builder 4.6 with Flash player 11.1.
- Using the developer account to test the application.
Questions:
- Can the delay be reduced programatically? If yes, then how?
- The final solution may be used by people distributed across the globe. Is there a possibility that, the latency is affected by your location?
- If the above is true, does Adobe provide cloud services (for commercial applications) that are distributed in different location, to reduce the latency?
- Can proxy server be an issue? We have port 443 open on the proxy server for TSL connections.
- If the above is true, then how can we avoid the issue? The final application may be used in a corporate network and we cannot ask everyone to change their network settings to connect LCCS services.
I have checked some posts on the forum, which say that, the performance is faster on Macs. We are currently not targetting the Mac platform.
Thanks,
Subrat

Hi,
Please double check the following firewall port between two subnets.
Front End Servers-Lync Server Application Sharing service 5065 TCP used for incoming SIP listening requests for application sharing.
Front End Servers-Lync Server Application Sharing service 49152-65535 TCP Media port range used for application sharing.
Clients 1024-65535* TCP Application sharing.
If the issue persists, you can use the Lync server logging tool on FE server to test the process of desktop sharing.
Here is the link of using the Lync logging tool:

  • Lync 2013 Desktop SHaring Not working from Internet

    Hi,
I am facing one issue, my Desktop Sharing is not working for Internet Clients, error message comes is "we could not connect to the presentation because of network issues" Internally it is working fine even I from Edge Server.
I am using single Public IP Configuration on Edge Server with Port 5061,444,443,3478.
Any suggestions, on I can check are welcome.
    Best Regards, Ranjit Singh

    Hello Ranjit,
Application Sharing/Desktop Sharing happens  through SRTP  through the A/V edge Server hence checking the Port Range is very important
Following Port reachability to be checked first
    Public --> Edge server:
    TCP/443
    UDP/3478
    TCP/50,000-59,999 (Outbound only)
From the Front End pool to the internal Edge:
    TCP/5062
    TCP/443
    UDP/3478
From the internal Edge to the Front End Pool:
    TCP/5065
    TCP/49152-65335 (Inbound/Outbound)

  • Lync 2013 desktop sharing is giving Black screen when using virtual machine

    Hello,
We have a user who is connecting our network through VPN and connecting to a virtual machine. He is able to login to lync but when he start desktop sharing or some one sharing the desktop to him, he is getting black screen. He is using windows 7 and Lync
    2013 client. Please advice

    Hi,
Did he receive any error message?
Please double check the ports for VPN traffic.
Please also enable logging on Lync client for further troubleshooting.
What’s more, when users connect to the corporate network using a VPN client, Lync media traffic is sent through the VPN tunnel. This configuration can create additional latency and jitter because media traffic must pass through an additional layer of encryption
and decryption. The issue is compounded when the VPN concentrator is busy.
    You can configuration like this:
Lync client connect to the Access Edge Server for all signaling connections when on the corporate VPN. However, Media sessions routed through the A/V Edge Server interface instead of establishing connectivity through the VPN tunnel.

  • Specific Application filter while desktop sharing

I need help for the specific application filter while on desktop sharing. i.e i have to share entire Desktop with current running processe except server application window (UI).http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2007/03/23/writing-a-desktop-sharing-application.aspx
I got the samples for desktop sharing using Windows Desktop Sharing References. In that I need to filter the specific application. But i didn't know How to do that.
By using following things we can try to filter the specific Application. But I want to know, how to call Viewer side share property to fire the OnApplicationUpdate Event on server side.
RDPSRAPI_APP_FLAGS & RDPSRAPI_WND_FLAGS enumeration - How to set the flag for specific application to give high level security process.
    IRDPSRAPIApplicationFilter
    _IRDPSessionEvents_OnApplicationUpdateEventHandler
Please give me some examples to do this....
    Thanks

    Hi Narmadha,
Your issue seems to be out of the scope of this forum. We only focus on issue about RDS/VDI deployment, management and operations. For development and API issue it is appropriate to ask in our MSDN Forum:

  • Dell 24" Latency Issues & Features?

I have a Quad on the way, and I'm looking at LCD displays for it. I've been reading the postings about Dell's 24" LCD, which looks like a winner in most respects, but was wondering about the "latency issue" I've read about here and there regarding LCD use for Photoshop still work vs. Final Cut video work. Does anyone know anything about this "issue?" Or if it is an "issue?" So far, the Dell spanks the Apple 23" in most aspects, especially price.
Are all of you Dell 24" owners happy with your purchase?
Can an Eye-One calibrator calibrate this Dell?
Are there any connection issues with the Dell for a Quad/Geo6600 OEM card?
    Thanks!!

I know I can still read this forum post at 90° off center...there's some brightness change around 45° off center, and ever-so-slight contrast shift at around 70° off center, but colors on my desktop seem to be 'still there'. I can litterally put my head on the 'side' of the display, so 1 eye is looking almost at the back of the display and the other at the front, and I can still define objects, colors and shapes, and read the 12-point text on this page. I just gets out of focus real easy since it's almost 2 feet 'distance' for my eyes to re-focus between the 'left' and 'right' of the screen :-D
The only complaint I do have of this monitor is that it's a 'bit' TOO bright, even set to the lowest brightness in the display's calibration. Although as LCDs get dimmer with age, I think it will work out in the long run...
(I just bought it last week).

  • Things which can break Lync desktop sharing

    Proxy URL filter
For one of my customers, Lync desktop sharing suddenly stopped working only from a particular network. All required ports were opened, telnet , tracert all fine, also sometimes we saw it working , so it was intermittent.  you can guess what security
and network team will say J.
Then captured traffic in netmon and it shows that there is reset for 443 traffic and uccplog shows error which points to 443 inspection device on the network , so shared it with network and security team, you wouldn’t guess their response this time
J they asked me to identify the device which is resetting 443 session.  Now I only had to solve this issue, I knew even PSS engineer can only tell us that there is reset.
I started off with question  How it works some times?” , answer to this is that whenever it worked someone from Local IT team has logged in to that computer, also when logged in as normal users netstat shows time wait for 443 and sometimes sharing invitation
expires.  This gave me a clue, so I asked for a new laptop which is not a member of any domain and started drilling down. ..Finally found that URL filtering rule has been applied to users in that subnet and corp application FQDNs are not bypassed. It
was URL filtering application which was stopping this traffic.
I told security team that proxy is causing this issue GUESS WHAT they asked me why they were not informed about Lync FQDN earlier
    J
    WAN optimizer.
It was another lovely day in office talking all important topics like work life balance, movies , next best weekend place etc… suddenly tickets started flowing for desktop sharing issue. Immediately P1 case was opened and all of us specialist joined P1 bridge
just to say WE DID NOT DO ANY CHANGES! Now someone is surely jealous of someone being happy or someone has not followed the change process. Who it is? And what it is has to be investigated, of course  by Lync team.
Again netmon says 443 rest and error message says 443 inspection.. Being a Microsoft application  expert you are not done yet without finding out which device is doing it, isn’t  it? . So started isolating the issue. Noticed that issue is happening
only from specific region only. So asked everyone on call what is so special about this region…there was a dead silence and there was a smart answer YOU TELL US! Well this went on for a while till someone from network team asked with low tone
will wan  optimizer has any impact on Lync traffic??
    J
It was WAN optimizer which was causing this issue.
    Regards
    Praveen R

  • Any issues with file sharing between Windows and latest Mac client?

We're running Lync 2013. My Windows client is 15.0.4551.1005. Mac client is version 14.0.8.
I open a conversation with a coworker on his Mac. I then try to share a png file. He clicks accept but then my client says the attempt timed out, and his client says that I canceled the file transfer. The coworker then boots the Mac into Windows and we try
again, and the file share works fine. When I jump on my Mac, I can send files to his Mac without issue. When he tries to send from his Mac to my PC it fails, but when he tries to send from Windows on his Mac to my PC, it works.
I can't find anything specific in the logs that would indicate a firewall issue. Is there a bug with file sharing between the Mac and PC clients?
    Thanks,
    Matt

No, There isn't a bug with file sharing between Mac and Pc client.

  • Issues with file sharing after changing password

Last night I changed my system password on my MacBook Pro and for some reason it caused some issues with my file sharing with my windows PC.
I was able to finally get the notebook to connect again to the XP PC shared documents by going through finder to go to network and then connected. But the PC would not see the notebook. Everything was communicating fine when I first got the system two weeks ago.
Tech support did what they could tonight and I finally just decided to set up a connection to my notebook by entering the notebooks ip address on the pc.
It's alte and sorry for the rambling, but does anyone know why the pc (as well as others in the house) no longer see the notebook?

  • WTR310N Latency Issues

I have the WTR310N router, and all of a sudden, I have started experiencing huge latency issues overnight.  When I connect directly to the Cable Modem, I am at ~100ms, and when I connect to the router, I am between 1200ms and 2500ms.  I have rebooted the router, rest the router, and restarted my computer several times and in various orders.  The results are the same each time.  This happened last night around 10 PM instantly and has degraded ever since.  No changes were made to the computer nor to the router configuration so I am stumped here.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions that might help me solve this issue?
Thanks and I appreciate all the help I can get.

Well first thing which you need to try is to upgrade the firmware of your Router, Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Once you Re-Configure all the settings on your Router, i think this might solve the Problem.

  • Desktop Sharing only sharing a small region of the desktop

On one users computer desktop sharing refuses to share a whole screen, instead it shares a region outlined by a rectangle..
Anyone know what is going on? We have tried to change resolution etc but nothing seems to work..

This issue due to availability of hardware resource to the operating system or Application
Please check is we have the minimum system requirements for Lync http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg412781(v=ocs.14).aspx  meet from the client end

  • External clients desktop sharing fails

After reading through various articles and forum posts I am desperate enough to contribute my first post...
    The Problem:
We have successfully implemented a Lync 2010 infrastructure.
    Internal to Internal works perfect
Internal to external (or vice versa) works perfect except for desktop sharing (Audio /Video works perfect)
(with external being an internal user in an external network)
I tried to narrow down the problem and found the following issues:
23; reason="Call failed to establish due to a media connectivity failure when one endpoint is internal and the other is remote";CallerMediaDebug="application-sharing:ICEWarn=0x800029,LocalSite=192.168.18.105:5388,LocalMR=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:3478(public
    IP Adress from AV.xxx.de) ,RemoteSite=192.168.10.73:5378,RemoteMR=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:56119
    (public IP Adress from AV.xxx.de)
    ,PortRange=5350:5389,RemoteMRTCPPort=56119,LocalLocation=1,RemoteLocation=2,FederationType=0"
So basically a client connects from behind a NAT device to the external IP of the edge av interface and the internal client tries to connect to the same external ip?
Is that meant to be that way?
Second issue (or same issue but different perspective) same scenario(but network Sniffer on the firewall):
    request reaches FW:
    50.436292 port2 in Guest IP:35962 -> external AV Edge IP:59676: syn 2844552579
request routed through FW to the internal DMZ IP:
    50.436857 Lync-extern out Guest IP:35962 -> 172.16.13.204:59676: syn 2844552579
    session gets resetted:
    50.437046 Lync-extern in 172.16.13.204:59676 -> Guest IP:35962: rst 0 ack 2844552580
This repeats very often till both clients get a notice about "Network issuses.
On the Edge Server I did an netstat -oa and found Port 59676 to be listening (TCP)
I read so much in the last days that I am totally confused by now and I think the documentation on tech net is faulty somehow.
(at least regarding port 50.000 ->59.999)
Maybe the issue is DNS related (we got split DNS in place)?
Any thoughts helping me out would be appreciated!
    Thanks Gunni
    Who needs a signature?

    Hello Gunni,
please can you tell what is the vendor, model and firmware of your firewall? Are there any kind of "deep inspection" features enabled in the configuration of the firewall.
I am asking, as we have seen similar issues with an RST that seemed to come from the Lync Edge Server, but in fact the connection reset was done by the firewall. In the mentioned case the firewall is a Juniper, model SSG-5.
Two flow related settings activated in the configuration caused the issue, leading exactly to the ms-client-diagnostic: reason="Call failed to establish due to a media connectivity failure when one endpoint is internal and the other is remote"
“flow tcp-seq-check” -                  (TCP Sequence Check)
“flow tcp-syn-check” -                  (TCP SYNCRO Check)
Please check if your firewall has some similar or identical settings activated!
A lot of time, we investigated the Edge Server for any issues, - we even replaced it with a new one built from the scratch. Nothing helped, till we start looking closer at the firewall and disabled the settings mentioned above. I remember that we thought
the RST comes from the Lync Edge on the first look in NetworkMonitor and Wireshark. But when we started watching the Juniper reports, and comparing the time-stamps we realized that the connection was closed first by the firewall, not the Lync Server.
If your firewall offers a reporting feature (via webinterface, or SNMP, etc.) I recommend you to take a close look to check if the connection is closed here first.
    Thanks and greetings from Berlin,

My client machine is connected with core switch->firewall-core router-ISP.
Please some one suggest what could be the issue.
    Thanks SIva

Have you defined any port ranges Get-CsConferencingConfiguration
is the set  ClientMediaPortRangeEnabled : False
Can you provide the Uccapi logs showing the invite sent for desktop sharing and the 200 ok response along with the BYE so that we what going wrong

  • X2go desktop sharing / desktop shadowing help

I have a 64bit Arch setup on my media center.
I'm able to get x2goserver running without any issue; I can correctly login to a new XFCE session without error;  but I cannot get x2go desktop sharing to work (connect to the running profile).
    I have:
Setup SSH/using a key on a custom port.
Installed x2goserver & x2godesktopsharing (from AUR). I've created the sqlite database (although I am unable to list users) and added myself to the appropriate group.
I also launched the x2godesktopsharing application as my user from the session I want to connect to.
When I try to login to "local desktop" on x2go client, it says "no available desktop found" and boots me off. If I run th x2godesktopsharing application as root,  I can hook into my root session (but it screws up, for obvious display reasons).  I can switch the profile to an XFCE session and it connects without issue.
Basically, what am I missing? I would love some desktop shadowing!
    Thanks

It works for me just fine. (server: x86_64, client Lubuntu arm).
I am not sure I fully understand your first post, this is how I tested it:
Let's have users foo and bar, both have user account on the server.
The server's /etc/group lists _both_ foo and bar as users of group "x2godesktopsharing".
User foo is currently logged on local console of the server (DISPLAY is :0).
User foo starts x2godesktopsharing (e.g. from xterm to see the std out) - an icon should appear in his systray. The icon has a blue frame and a green "check" mark.
User bar tries to connect to the server from client, the session type is "Local desktop" - a list of server's local desktops should be displayed (i.e. just that one run by user foo on DISPLAY :0).
User bar can choose "View Only" after highligting the single item of "foo on DISPLAY :0".
User foo is asked if he agrees with the incoming connection and can "grant" the user bar to access his desktop also in the future.
    That's it.
P.S. You may also want to test to connect to the server as the user foo for connection type "local desktop": in such a case, x2godesktopsharing does not even have to run and the desktop should be shadowed to client.

  • Web App won't allow desktop sharing

Were deploying Lync 2013 in a coexistence state with Lync 2010 but we are having issues with external users using Lync Web App. When an internal user tries to share the desktop the external web app users gets this message:
Call ended because of network connectivity issues.
Whiteboarding, IM and polling works fine
If I use Lync desktop client on the same PC that won't connect it works fine.
If we try this from a user homed on Lync2010 the desktop sharing works fine in the Web APP
Only change we made on the  reverse proxy is we published the Lync2013EXTWeb going to the 2013 front end pool.

  • Lync Desktop Sharing pausing for actions an administrator needs to accept

When using Lync desktop sharing on a user that is a local administrator on their computer, the lync desktop sharing session pauses each time I try and execute a program or go into the registry? UAC is active on the users computer and we are not going to
turn this off for security reasons. We have used other products like Cisco WebEx, Citrix Desktop Sharing, LogMeIn, etc... and they don't have a problem with the UAC prompts, only lync is having these issues. Is there a patch or a setting
somewhere to allow these evelated privilages for a lync desktop sharing session?

I'm visiting these threads because I also would like to use Lync to assist my end users within a screen sharing session.
Let's say my Sales VP has an issue, and uses Lync to contact me.. we start a screen sharing session, and I see how I can fix it... but as soon as admin permissions are needed, we're stuck... I can't see or type my admin creds, and I'm not going to tell him
to type mine in.. so I either have to switch to LogMeIn, RDSH into his machine (more disruptive) or hike over to his office, (where our offices are on a 90 Acre park...if he's even on-site)
It would be most excellent if named users could be assigned permissions within 365 so that they could perform help desk tasks, where Lync recognizes admin credentials and allows administrative tasks to be performed on the host.
Bringing this feature to Lync would be a real benefit.
I would love to ditch LogMeIn as their business model is changing, and anyway, they're not free.
So what are the technical or security challenges here?
    best regards.
