Launch editor

Hi all,
I would like to launch an external editor to edit some text. I don't know what program I will be launching as I want the OS to take care of that based on the file type. Then when the user has saved his or her changes and closed the editor, the changes will be sent back to the program.
I know I can create a temporary file and read it back in, but the tough part is telling the OS to open a given file letting it figure out what program to call. How would I do that and upon the action/event of closing the editor, the updated content will be saved by the program?

Cool,
I just did a search for java.awt.Desktop and found this great article:
http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2SE/Desktop/javase6/desktop_api/
I think I have a few ideas - I am upgrading now, hopefully it works out. Right now, I can try to monitor the process list for a specific process or maybe see what file handles are open and when it is closed, send it back up. Don't know if it's possible, but it sounds good.

  • PSE9 will not launch Editor

Hi, I bought PSE9 several days ago and installed it on a HP 64bit Pavillion. I can launch the Organizer, but each time I select the Editor, it simply closes again...no feedback, nothing, just closes. I've tried unstalling and reinstalling it again, but same thing.
Any ideas what may be causing this extremely frustrating behaviour?

It's Windows 7 - thanks for the lead, I tried those steps, but it didn't work
What I've discovered since my first post is that I can launch Editor once, but if I close it and try to relaunch it, it simply won't open again. It appears as if it thinks it is still open...

Can only launch editor once from Elements 11, then must re boot.

Please launch Editor once directly from its exe keeping Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys pressed. Delete the settings file when prompted.
    See if this helps.
The exe can be located at - C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe

  • PS8 Elements won't launch editor

On start up of the program where it gives you the option to organize or edit, edit usually launches the editor and I can work in it. It brings up the load bar but then just goes away and I'm still at the same start up. Nothing has changed on my computer that I know of, I'm the only user. Not sure what happened, just woke up one day wanting to use it and it did this. Any help would be appreciated cause I really don't have the money to go buy another program.

    Hi,
Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
    Solution 4:
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  8\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.

  • PSE 8 Editor will not launch-Please HELP!

I purchased PSE 8 and installed it to my computer, which meets all system requirements.
After everything was installed, I opened and Adobe ID account. When the welcome screen appears and I click on "Edit" the screen says "Launching Editor" for about 3 seconds, stops, and then nothing happens. I read the "Read Me" section that comes with the software and it mentions a problem with the Editor Launcher having trouble initializing. The instructions are to click "Edit" from the welcome screen, then click SHIFT+ALT+CTRL (or whatever order, I've tried everything) and then click "YES" for rebuilding editor launching preferences. Well, when I click "Edit" and SHIFT+ALT+CTRL, NOTHING happens!!!! I don't get any kind of response.
I have unistalled, reinstalled... I am so frustrated. I have used PSE 3 in the past and have never had any trouble. I have already wasted 2 hours on this program and I haven't even used it!
    Please help me,
MarieAntoinette1234  (And my screen name sucks!)

Unfortunately, there are many reasons why the PSE Editor might crash, and often it is hard to diagnose quickly the reason for the crash.   Here are some steps you can take to try to fix the problem:

Hi, I have recently downloaded Elements 13 for my windows 8 64 bit PC. I can launch the organiser ok but when I try to launch the Editor it asks me to sign in, this then comes up with the licensing window and when I accept, I get the message launching editor workspace, this stays on for a few seconds before disappearing with nothing happening. If I try again, the same thing happens. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software to no avail

  • Editor Launch issues

I can not launch editor in Photoshop elements 8.  I'm running windows 7.  I have been working on this for 4 days.  Tired everything on the support page and many suggestions from the forum.  ANYBODY have solutions.

Try making a direct desktop icon for the Editor and see if you can launch the program directly from the desktop.
Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
And find the PSE Editor application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
    C: >> Program Files >> Adobe >> Photoshop Elements 8
Within the Photoshop elements 8 folder find PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe (with the blue icon)
Select that file and click Next.
    Then click Finish.
You should now be able to launch by double clicking on the new desktop icon, bypassing the welcome screen.

  • Elements 12 organiser and Photo Editor won't launch

I had to uninstall Elements 12 and then re-install it but now I cannot open Photo Organizer or Photo Editor - PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP.  I find the support for this programme very scarce!!!!

    Hi,
Yes renaming means renaming to something like newopm.db but this solution might not work for you.
See there are two issues mentioned above:
Case 1.Sign in window keeps on appearing again and again
Case 2.Editor does not load but keeps on churning
opm.db solution solution is for Case1 and for Case 2 you need to rename SLCache folder @  <<C:\Program Files (x86)(or Program Files for 32 bit machine)\Common Files\Adobe\SLCache >> and then try to launch editor
    Thanks,

  • PSE 8.0 Editor Doesn't Open

OK, before I get started just let me say that I have spent the better part of a week moving my photos and catalog from an old XP computer to a new Windows 7 computer.  This involved migrating my PSA 2.0 catalog to PSE 5.0 then to PSE 8.0.  In the process of doing all that I was only able to convert my final catalog to 8.0 by deleting approx 500 pictures from my catalog.  I've spent the entire morning retagging those 500 pics and now I thought I was finally done.  Well guess what, Adobe has not gotten through dragging me through hell quite yet.  After I PAID them $99 for the program I have now found out that I can't open the editor portion of the program.  When I start the program and click on edit, I get the "launching editor" words that come up for a while then they disappear and I get nothing.  When I am in the organizer and try to edit a picture I get about the same response.  I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled with no success.  I renamed the editor preference file and reopened the program thinking that might help but no dice.
I am so frustrated with this piece of crap program words can't even describe it.
So, I come begging to you users of this forum to ask if you can help out a poor miserable soul like me.  I sat on hold for about 2 hours earlier in the week with Adobe thinking they could actually help fix some of my problems but that was certainly a joke.  I guess all they can do is write crappy programs, they know nothing about fixing them.

Thanks so much for that tip.  I did give it a try but it didn't work for me.
After working on this for most of today I'm finally happy to say that I have my problem solved.  It had to do with "building Twain menu items" and I was able to find the solution on the forums.
Thank goodness for user forums because Adobe doesn't have very good customer support.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 Editor not working after Registration

After installing & registering my Adobe Photoshop Elements 12, a week or so has passed since I last played with it. The Organizer still works fine, but the Editor sends me to a registration screen, which ultimately ends up telling me to ensure the Internet is working (it is) or retry. Any idea what's up? I've tried restarting the computer, uninstalling/re-installing the software, and the ever popular, waited on the phone for 45 minutes until I got so tired of the music (no one ever picked up) that I just gave up. Thank You for Your Support!

Please share a screenshot of the erro message you are seeing when launching Editor?

  • Photoshop Element Editor 12 does not start

Few days ago I installed Photoshop Elements 12. It worked fine, however today I decided to re-roll my system to the version prior to PSE installation. After reinstalling PSE12 I couldn't launch Editor - Organiser works fine.
Editor doesn't start if I try to opent it directly from .exe file, from Organiser or from Welcome screen. In Task Manager Photoshop Elements Editor program appears for a few seconds, later PDapp.exe appears and nothing happens.
I tried to reinstall the program removing all folders (also from "AppData" folder) but it hasn't helped.
Any idea how to solve the problem?

I decided to restore system because of some strange short (1-3s.) hang-ups.They started after installing last windows update.
I am using Win 7. I tried normal normal uninstaller.
Finally, I deleted some folders in CommonFiles/Adobe connected with PSE12 and with licence manager and then after reinstalling PSE I need to sign in to my Adobe account and everything works fine now.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 Editor crashing

A number of people have posted about Elements Organiser crashing but I have a problem with Photoshop Elements 12 Editor and would be grateful for any suggestions on how to resolve them.  I have a 64bit Sony Vaio running Windows 7 OS.  I have been using the software for a few months with no prior problems.  Elements Organiser functions without any issues but when I try to launch Editor it crashes every time with the following error message.
“Photoshop Elements 12 Editor stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close this program and notify you if a solution is available.”
This happens when I launch Editor from Organiser (by selecting to edit a particular picture) or when I try to launch Editor from the Welcome menu.
    Any advice gratefully received.

Since you're using a different OS, it would have been better to start a separate thread, ScoutDeb, but:
Go to your username>library>preferences folder and delete:
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Paths
    Adober Photoshop Elements 11 Settings
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
Repair permissions and try again. Here's how to find that library in 10.9:

Also, there's a conflict between coverflow view in maverick windows and PSE:

  • Elements 10, Editor runtime error

I get a runtime error when launching editor in Elements 10.  Just started happening.

If you are using Windows 7 then the preference file that needs to be renamed is at this location:
    <C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0\Editor>
In the above path, replace USERNAME with your windows profile name  which could be something like jblogetc or whatever.  Also the preference file is called: Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Prefs.psp and this needs to be renamed to Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Prefs.old
Once this done, restart PSE 10 and then see if it works.
