Launching app from image href

I am struggling to implement the following functionality:
I am aware that one can launch vlc (media player) from
windows start like:
START -> RUN -> "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe"
z:\mymovies\somemovie.avi
I want to implement the same functionality (meaning launching
the vlc and play the media file) from an IMAGE href from a web
page. How can I do it?
Basically, I am looking to launch a windows app from a web
image href.
I did try cfexecute and it does not work. Any help would be
appreciated!

The easiest way is to to make it a simple anchor tag. The
default application for that file type will launch itself.

  • Can I launch apps from safari?

    Hi
I was looking for sample code about webapps on iPhone and found this link:
    http://developer.apple.com/samplecode/iPhoneIntegration/index.html
With that sample I can access some iPhone applications, but I haven't found nothing else and I dont know if there are others apps that I can access.
So, Can I launch an arbitrary app from safari?
If so, How do I do that?
    Thank you
    Carlos Asensio

As I can see in the link about the iPhone integration sample you can do something like that:
    < a href="tel:408-555-5555" > call me < /a >
but I have not found it documented anywhere
And I thought that this would be a great place to found it:
    http://developer.apple.com/iphone/devcenter/docs/documentation/AppleApplications /Reference/SafariHTMLRef/index.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40002049
I want to know if I can do any other tasks with safari and where is documented.

  • Why can't we just launch app from cc panel

Is it just me or is it glaringly obvious that Adobe could/should allow us to actually launch an app directly from the list of installed apps ion the CC app in our tray? the installed apps are all listed nicely right there, for no other reason as to say its installed.... that's useless because if we have to go back to our desktop or start menu to find them and launch them anyway?
Seems like a lost cc marketing opportunity as well, all of my installed appps are already listed, If I click on them to open then from there as well my eyes would be on the cc app more which might even make people use the cc tray app more which leads to marketing avenues and education on existing and future products. For example i had no idea behance was attached now... except that it was part of the cc app... think of other possible crossmarketing of adobe apps, and if we could launch appps from the cc app, maybe we would keep it open longer, maybe you integarte the forums and deeper integration with available tutorials etc... just thinking out loud, i see the icon for photoshop and i double click... but it doesn;topen.... i keepdoing though to see if they turn that feature on...

@Demo:This is my first apple device, so I had no idea about those limitations, I knew I could not install Magic 2013 on an android, that's why I chose to get an ipad.
I just think that if enough people actually bother to complain instead of just letting people/governments/companies walk over them, they will actually care what their consumers want/need, that's probably just wishful thinking on my part.
@snozdop: funny you bring up the heinz reference, baked beans from heinz haven't been available in shops here for the last few years, but those are cans, need to be imported and that involves transportation etc. etc.
I am just talking about a digital app, available on the internet(world wide web) limiting regions completely destroys the point of having global internet access.
I'm a dreamer, hoping that most people are still good, probably my mistake for believing in that.

  • Re-launching apps from Application Manager

How do you launch an app again after the first launch? The Application Manager doesn't seem to work the second time around.

    Hi pamborama,
Please look into 'Start > All Programs' (on WIN) or the 'Applications' (on MAC) folder to find the application you installed and launch it from there.

  • Can I launch apps from backup hard drive?

i just started using Time Machine and an external drive. Shortly after that, PowerPoint 2004 is acting srangely. It takes a long time to load, then will only let me open from templates, etc. When I click 'Open Other', I get a HUGE window with no info. Also tried using OPEN from the file menu, and then it hangs. Only way I can open a presentation is by clicking on the presentation icon and letting that launch PowerPoint.
I'm not super technically inclined so I need some help. I'd like to know if I can launch PowerPoint from my external drive, to make sure that the Time Machine version is OK. If so, can I restore PowerPoint using Time Machine?

NO. you can't do that. what you can do is restore the application from the TM and launch it from your main drive. However, most likely the problem is not with the application itself but with some preference files in your home directory. to test that create a new user account and try running Power Point there.
If so, can I restore PowerPoint using Time Machine?

  • Finder opens when trying to launch app from dock

Hi, everyone. This is my first time posting here. I'm having a really weird set of issues here. Whenever I click on an application, any application, in the dock, finder launches and opens up the app's location in a folder instead of actually launching the app. Also, whenever I try to type something, like in Firefox or MS Word, finder acts as if I'm hitting shortcut buttons and launches file info, a search box, etc. I've tried repairing permissions, but nothing has helped. I really have no clue how to fix this one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi queens47, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, move these two files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    Reset Launch Services...

    reboot when complete.

  • Cannot Launch .app from within Acrobat/Reader

I made a software program that runs in/from Adobe. I burn it to DVD and sell it. Our PC users are fine, but our Mac users are having trouble. Within the program, there is a link/action set to "Open a File". The "file" is actually a Filemaker Runtime. When our Mac users click on the link/action, there is a message that says "FileMaker Pro.app is set to be launched by this PDF file......". Click "Open". The next message says "Could not open the file".
There are 3 types of Filemaker Runtime files ending with extensions .ACR, .ZAR, .ZAS. I've created File Associations for the Mac to read these types of files and open with FileMaker. Our Mac users CAN open the files by drilling down through the folders and opening the file directly - but we don't want them to have to do this! That defeats the whole purpose of the link/action!
My questions is: Why can't Adobe launch the FileMaker Pro.app, or open the "file" from within? Why do our customers have to go into the folder, drill down and open the file directly?

Tembowa - Thank you for trying to help me.
What do you mean by "next to" the PDF?
The link/action to "launch" the .app file is "in" the PDF document.
Please help me understand your question.

  • Banner alert stopping launching apps from home screen

Whenever a banner alert appears from my home screen, it prevents me from going to open a different app. This is happened when using WhatsApp so I don't know if it's a third-party issue.
For example the banner alert is from WhatsApp, but I can't tap on the app itself, I have to tap on the banner alert. I try tapping on different apps and it won't let me.

You should tap on the banner and it will open the app. If you wait a moment, the banner will disappear, unless you have it set to Alert, which will require you to tap on the alert before you can do anything else. • WAIK - Install apps from image or through answer file?

    Hello everyone =)
So I'm new to Windows 7 deployment, and my first project is a standard image for ~25 computers, with some settings and standard software such as MS Office 2010, antivirus/anti-malware software, standard file viewers, etc...
In the absence of network infrastructure, I'm relying solely on WAIK to automate, excluding tools like MDT and WDS. According to the doc, I'm setting up a "High Touch Deployment with Standard Image".
I've been reading a lot of documentation and so far, I understand that there are basically two ways to deploy applications on top of Windows:
Install them on the reference computer, in audit mode, before making the image
Use an Answer File inside a Configuration Set with an $OEM$ folder to run silent installs
I'm not sure what the differences or advantages/disadvantages are for either method. Is there one that's recommended over the other?
    Thank you for reading!

If you have single model computer set, then install one computer including applications, tune it and adapt interface. Sysprep.xml file does need to be complicated. Do not forget to include
copyprofile parameter. Run sysprep and shutdown.
Copy image (with tool that you consider the most simple) to all computers. Start computers and include parameters that you have not included in unattended file.
In summary: If you are new and need to do the task in relatively short time, do not optimize your procedures. You will do it next time when you face second similar task.

  • Possible to launch apps from Notes?

Previously I had posted this question:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17407788#17407788
I was wondering why VooDooPad could launch applications via links and TextEdit couldn't. It was explained that because TextEdit is the default system editor it wasn't secure to allow it to do this.
Now I've begun using the Notes application quite a bit and I have the same question again. When I drag a file into Notes I get an icon that links to the file and will open it. I would like to be able to do the same with applications, or at least be able to make a link that will reveal the application in Finder.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks.

You want Open Office to launch a command entry screen? Or you want Microsoft Excel to do that? As far as I can tell that's what you're asking. But then you're asking this in the Java Programming forum, so there must be some Java angle to the question. Damn if I can figure out what it is.
Here's a suggestion: if you're trying to explain something to people, and that something is pretty simple, and nobody gets it, you need to try explaining in some other way. That's what seems to be happening here.

  • How do I stop iTunes (10.7) from automatically launching upon restart?  "Open at Login" is NOT checked in the dock and I have removed the app from Login Items under Users/Groups.  I am using a MacBook version 10.7.5.  Thank you!

How do I stop iTunes (10.7) from automatically launching upon restart?  "Open at Login" is NOT checked in the dock and I have removed the app from Login Items under Users/Groups.  I am using a MacBook version 10.7.5.  Thank you!

Thanks for the response gakker, but I've double-checked the camera / iPhoto / Image Capture scenario, and I'm 100% positive it's got nothing to do with that.
Plugging in my iPhone has no effect on anything related to this.
The other thing I should have mentioned is that when iTunes on my Mac is NOT running, then nothing happens on my iPhone screen when I plug it in to my Mac. I only get the "Sync in progress" message when iTunes IS running.
It's interesting though that you say you also get this "Sync in progress" message, albeit only for a second or two though.
Can I just double-check something with you however... When you say:
+"at no time was my iTunes playback interrupted"+
do you mean the iTunes on your Mac? Because the problem I have is that the iPod-playback on my iPhone is interrupted.
So can you clarify that for me, please? If you have music playing on your iPhone, and you then plug your iPhone into your Mac when iTunes is running on your Mac, does the music playback on the iPhone get interrupted?

  • Corrupt Apps/Disk Images Wrong file creator wont launch

I have a strange problem.  Ive just upgraded to os 10.8 with a clean instal. I was in the process of reinstalling my applications. I keep them on a disk image on a external drive. The drive came unplugged by accident. when I re opened the disk image I got a message that the image could possibly damage my computer do I want to mount it. I did and copied all my installers off it.
Now when I open any of them for example skype, I click on the dmg, the disk image mounts and I can copy the app from it. When I click on the app  to launch it I get the gatekeeper message,  it says it was created by Preview. [see screencap] and when I click open nothing happes.
I can download a new copy of skype and it works. I have limited bandwith with my isp so Id like to avoid redownloading all my installers if possible. Any ideas ?

Thanks.  It starts to launch, gets to the point where you can see the doasboard then errors out.

  • How can I launch an external app from a keynote presentation?

I'm trying to launch a Prezi presentation ("Prezi.app") from a keynote presentation, but don't know how to do it.
Links in keynote can only refer to websites or slides within the presentation, but not to start another App, like in - I hate to say it - Powerpoint.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Juergen

Keynote is specifically prevented from opening applications.
In Keynote 09 (the previous version), hyperlinks can:
Jump to a slide in the same presentation
Open a webpage in the computer’s default web browser
    Open another Keynote document
    Open an email message
    Exit the slideshow
in Keynote 6 (the latest version) hyperlinks can:
Jump to a Slide in the same presentation
    Web page
Mail opens a pre-addressed email message
    Exit the presentation
