Launching/executing files from within AIR

Hi.
Just wanted to know if I can launch files from within my AIR
app...for instance I would like the user to click a button which
then opens a Microsoft Word doc...the Word doc doesn't have to open
in the AIR app, it can open on the desktop (Windows XP).

I wondered if any of you guys could help me...
I am using Captivate 3 and I have created a project in this and exported it as a standalone executable file.
Ideally I would like to link this to another standalone executable file exported from Captivate, so is it possible
to create a button in the first file so when it has been exported, if I click on this it opens up the second standalone file?

I'm pretty sure that, for security reasons, the projector app that Captivate uses for stand-alone EXEs is sandboxed: you won't be able to access the API of the host operating system, so you won't be able to launch any apps.

Launching an installer from within Air on MAC

Hi,
We have an AIR application and from within it we want to download a dmg, mount it and then launch the installer. Is this possible?

You will need to use the native installer to run your app in extended desktop mode. Normal AIR apps don't allow you to launch another process.

I am having 1 ipa file created using Xcode, Now i need to include that file in my ipa Package which is created using Flash CS 5.5 and Air for iOS. Also i need to know how to open my 1st ipa file from AS3 ?

But in that case user need to download 2 applications right. I need user to download my parent application created using Flash and that package contain one more ipa created using Xcode, so from my parent app only user should able to open my 2nd app. Is there any way to do that?
Ps: I am not talking about in-app but 2 individual apps inside one package.

How to run a batch file from within an Oracle 9i Form?

Hi, I would like to execute a batch file from within an oracle form - I'm assuming there's some PLSQL command I can use? I am not allowed to use any third party libraries, and I'm hoping I can get away without having to progam any C or Java to do it. I don't want to run my java program from my form, but my lecturer is insisting on it.

Calling a created Java file from an AIR application

I've got a guy helping me out who is creating a Java file that outputs an F1 keypress to the operating system/desktop (which Flex alone can't do.
My problem is I need to know how I can call/activate this file from within an AIR application. I want my app to be ready for when he has created it for me but I've never used Flex to call an application so I would not know what classes need to be called or if any script would be required.
In the following simple code lets say if the Java file itself was called keypress.java (or whatever file extension a java file has) what code would need to be added in, including imported classes, to make the click of the button activate this java file?

I think one solution is to use a Java proxy to call the Web services.
In the Java proxy you can have a method that accepts the user/pass and sets them correctly for the Web service.
Then you expose that Java proxy as a data control (right click, create data control) - and then create a page that invokes that method.

Strange! Finder launches wrong files from Firewire-Drive

Hi,
I've just transferred my image library (+100GBytes) from an internal HDD to a 500GByte Firewire HDD (Chipset Oxford 924 DSB) and now the strangest thing happens: when double-clicking on a jpg-file in Finder, it launches Photoshop but opens a completely different image (different filname from a different subfolder) than the one I double-clicked on!
Reversely, when navigating to the same .jpg-file from within Photoshop's "Open File"-Dialog, everything works fine.
I'm running Mac OSX 10.4.8, the Firewire-drive is formatted in HFS+ and the thumbnail-previews in Finder are displayed correctly.
The same problem that occurs in Finder also occurs when browsing the images in Adobe Bridge (images display correct but launching by double-clicking on them leads to different images from different folders being loaded)
Can anyone please help me with this?

Try this, quit any open apps, then navigate to /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-xxxxx.csstore. You may have more than one with different negative numbers. Delete all of these.
Then navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist and delete this also.
Then log out and back in. Or restart. Let us know.

Get a third drive if needed, open the Time Machine pane of System Preferences, set it not to exclude that drive, and drag the files to it. If you're moving an iTunes or iPhoto library, launch the application with the Option key held down and choose the moved library.

Unable to open CS3 Files from within the application

Good Afternoon
I work as IT Support for company looking after 10 ADOBE Creative Suite 3 end-users.
One of my colleagues is unable to open Illustrator or Photoshop files from within their respective applications, but she is able to open them from outside ok.
I have reinstalled ADOBE CS3 and this appeared to resolve the issue, only for it to return again a day later.
She has no other applications or processes running during her attempt to open a file from within CS3.
She will click on Open and the 'Open File' window will flash up for a split second, then the whole application will be frozen. It is as if the 'Open File' window is there, but isnt there because we cant click on it, but the application thinks it is displaying and so she can not click on anything else. The only way to close the application is to end the process under Task Manager.
While I am sitting here tearing what little amount of hair I have on my head, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Is this a Windows problem or an ADOBE problem do you think?

Ok...
Opened illustrator but was unable to open the 'Open File' window.
Changed the screen resolution, it suddenly worked!
Changed the screen resolution back to as it was before, it also worked.
What could cause this do you think?
By simply changing the screen resolution and back again, the 'Open File' window displayed itself.
Very bizarre!

the problem is that Android give me only Adobe Reader to open "myFile"
how Android proposes to all applications succeptibles to open "myFile" ?
openWithDefaultApplication() doesn't work on Android.

I want to run local PC executable files from inside the portal. To be more specific I want to be able to open the Outlook and some powerbuilder executable applications.
How can I do it?

If you absolutely want to do it, you can use vbscript for it (though there are a lot of security contstraints)

Timecapsule - opening files from within an application!!

I have a time capsule... 500Mb
I have an airport extreme with external hard drive - 250 Mb.
Through Finder, I can place files on either of these drives and open them from Finder.
If I open Numbers, or Pages, then try to open any file on Timecapsule, it appears that there are no files
If I open Number, or Pages, then try to open any file on the Airport Extreme external disk - it works!
Simple question really.... why cannot I see or open any file from within an application that resides on Timecapsule?? It's driving me crazy!!!

File dialogs have the ability to "group" items, which prohibits you from changing sort options. The group icon looks like six little squares. Click on it and instead of grouping by date, group by "none" and then you can change sort orders.

Unable to open files from within Photoshop

Hi, I've updated to CC 2014.2.1 and I'm continuing to get this message when I attempt to open a file from within Photoshop (it started when I installed a beta versionYosemite, so I switched back to Mavericks, but it didn't help, [so many updates with Cloud, I lose track..]). I noticed someone else with a similar problem, but from 2013. Anyway, I get this message: 'Could not complete your request because of a program error.' I restart Photoshop, then I can open a few files, but then the errors start over.
Also, I'm not really familiar with the 'forum' means of support, but if anyone knows a solution to this beyond 'google it', which I've done, I'd appreciate it.

Use of COVERFLOW if EXTREMELY IMPORTANT (in Photoshop) when working fast with hundreds of images. Who the heck labels every single image asset file—and knows what that is without a visual cue? WHEN IS THIS ON THE ROADMAP TO BE FIXED?????????? UGH! MAVERICKS has been coming for MONTHS. Why was this not vetted on Adobe's end as a valuable roadmap item for its users? I would have ranked this a high item from a user experience end and fought for inclusion on the developers roadmap. What is the ETA on a real fix concerning Mavericks & Coverflow use with Photoshop?

How can I transfer a 8GB .MOV file from MacBook Air (mid 2013) via external HD (Samsung S2 Portable) to a Dell laptop ? The mentioned file currently will not let me transfer it to my ext HD. I want to upload it afterwards to a Dell laptop with Windows software installed.
Reformatting the drive doesn't seem to be the sollution, since this will erase all the data stored on the ext HD, and it will only allow me to use the drive with either Apple or Microsoft equipment.
