Launching Java Application From A Java Application

Hello,
I am building a compiler and would like to have run feature. The problem is I can not seem to figure out the righ syntax to run and application from my java application.
Here is the code I am using to run an application:
public void RunClass()
try
Runtime rtr=Runtime.getRuntime();
Process pr = rtr.exec("java " + CurrentDirectory + FileNoExt);
String line;
BufferedReader rerr = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(pr.getErrorStream()));
if((line = rerr.readLine()) == null) { CompileMessageArea.setText("Program Running\n"); }
while ((line = rerr.readLine()) != null) { CompileMessageArea.append(line +"\n"); }
rerr.close();
catch(Exception re) { re.printStackTrace(); }
The following is an example of what the above would send to the:
java c:\MyJava\Programs\test
If you try to type something like that in a DOS prompt it will not work. You must first change to that directory, but I am hoping there is an easy way to change the syntax. On the other hand if you want to compile a program you can type:
javac c:\MyJava\Programs\test.java
and it will work just fine. This is kind of funny and I use this syntax for my compiler in my program. You would think that the same syntax would work the same for both compiling and running but it does not. So, I know that if I just know what the correct syntax that dos would except for running an application it would work.
So, if you have the answer for me PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
It is easily testable by keying it into the dos prompt.
Sincerely,
Eric Kohr

If you want to do it that way you need to use the environment parameter of the exec() method. Use it to set your classpath to the directory that's need for the java application you are about to run... for instance.
String[] env = new String[] {"CLASSPATH=c:\classes"}
String command = "java somePackage.someProgram";
Runtime.getRuntime().exec( env, command);Where your program is in the file "c:\classes\somePackage\someProgram"
your mileage may vary :)
You can also reflectively load classes into the running VM and invoke their main methods. This give you the ablility to control them a bit more.

    hi,
    is there a way to prevent java class files from being interpreted back into java source files (jad.exe does exactly that) ?
    i have a batch file to compile my java application and another to run the application. the application is run by invoking the batch file from dos window.
    i'd like to be able to double-click on some icon to launch the application.
    how do i accomplish this?
    thank you.

    s there a way to prevent java class
    files from being interpreted back into
    java source files (jad.exe does exactly that) ?There are two ways to prevent that:
    1. Use an obfuscator. Look at this page for
    explanation of what is that, and then search google
    "java obfuscator" for products.
    http://www.devx.com/tips/Tip/13580
    2. Compile your application to native code (google
    for "excelsior jet" or "gcj"). Look at this page for
    more details:

    i'd like to be able to double-click on some
    icon to launch the application.
    how do i accomplish this?Do you want to do that on your computer only, or you
    need a solution to make the clickable icon on
    computers of your end-users?
    Denis.thanks to all,
    i'll see suggest sites for more details on obfuscator.
    I'd like to have the application doulbe-clickable on end-users' computers.

    hi,
    usually it is the web dynpro launch system that is causing the issue, OR there is a misconfiguration in the backend like the tasks are set up with com.sap/esslea in the backend and the xml file is referencing sap.com <SWITCH>/esslea and the dynpro is showing this as not deployed.

  • How to exit batch file after launching java application

    hello, I have created a simple java application and a batch file to launch the application. but when execute the batch file the application execute but the batch file still
    appear. I want to launch the application and immediately close the batch file after the application appears.
    Best Regards,
    Boulebtina

    In the batch script use the "START" command to start the program. To use it you need to have the script browse to the application directory first as shown below:
    c:
    cd MyApplication\ApplicationFolder
    START myApp.exe
    exitThis will start an application that is stored in C:\MyApplication\ApplicationFolder\myApp.exe. I use this quite a bit and works well for me.

  • When trying to launch a Java preferences get this message:  Cannot launch Java application A static initializer of the main class threw an exception: java.lang.NullPointerException"

    I have an IMac 10.5.8 and I am having problems with Java. I have tried todownload Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4 and it looks as if it is doingsuccessfully, but I cannot see where it has put it and get this message when trying to launch Java preferences:
    Cannotlaunch Java application
    A static initializer of the main class threw an exception:java.lang.NullPointerException"
    Couldyou please help?

    Hmm, only way I know would be a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
    Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

  • Cannot Launch Java Application

    I have installed Leopard on my PowerBook and everything seems to be working ok - except I receive an error message box on my screen - Titled Cannot Launch Java Application and in the box it says
    "Uncaught exception in main
    method:java.lang.NoSuchMethodError:javax.security.sasl.Sasl.setSasIServerFactory (Ljavax/security/sasl/SasIServerFactor;)V" I click the quit button and the message goes away for a minute and pops back up.
    I am not aware of any Java Application that is running. In fact it is always on the screen - even when no application is running. I have repaired permissions and restarted several times. It won't go away. It doesn't seem to interfere with anything - it's just annoying to have it always on my desk top. Anyone have any suggestions or experience this problem.
    Jane

    After seeing everyone's responses here, it's pretty clear that there's little rhyme or reason to our fixes.
    If mine worked, it wouldn't have come back.
    If the font thing worked, it would've worked for me (it didn't).
    If any of these worked, Jane's would be fixed (I'm assuming it isn't, yet...).
    Sounds like a Leopard glitch. Or, we're all running a certain program, my guess is most likely that start at startup, and that's triggering the thing.
    My computer starts up with Butler, Quicksilver, and Yojimbo this whole time. Anyone else?
    In the meantime, I'm going to shut these off and see if it still happens.

  • How to launch an app from Java in Mac OSX?

    I would like to launch another application from my Java code which will run on OS X. Doesn anyone know how to do this? I think it involves the "Runtime.getRuntime.exec()" method, but I'm not sure how to tell it which application to launch.
    Thanks

    I dont know about OSX but i can give you a generalized
    solution. In all OS's there will be a way to get to
    command prompt. It is not really true: MacOS is one noticeable exception! Version 9, like every previous one, was completely extraneous to the notion of "command prompt", because the Macintosh, since its origin to nowadays, has been a "fanatically" User-Centric system: everything is iconic. A side effect of this approach is that MacOS was a pretty hard platform for low-level developers...
    In MacOSX things have dramatically changed: this OS is a powerful Unix-like one, with the beautiful dress that only a Mac can wear: and finally, all you Mac users, here it is: the shell!
    Of course, in MacOSX (and in MacOS "classic" too) there are paths and executable files.
    MacOS1-9 file-system was a very peculiar one: resource fork and data fork for every file, ":" as path components separator (but what "common" user has ever seen a Macintosh path?) and so on.
    MacOSX will use an Unix-like filesystem, I guess (I'm not a Mac user, I like every OS for its beauties - and therefore dislike Microsoft products even if often they give me bread).
    But the key question is: how do I tell the runtime which file it has to execute?
    Fortunately, every modern SO I know adopts a hyerarchical organization of its files. So, indipendently of what is considered the "root" ("C:\", "/" or whatever else), you can "trace" a relative path from your current path (if you use an Unix or URL idiom, "./") and the file you want to reach.
    So, if your java app ("JavaApp.class") is placed in a folder called "MyJavaApp", nested in another folder called "Programs" that you see when you click on the "MacHD" icon, and you can manually launch the Mac app you're interested in clicking on an icon called "MyMacApp Program", placed in a folder called "MyMacApp", nested in another folder called "Programs" that you see when you click on the "MacHD" icon (it's the same folder we said before :-) ), using Unix or URL sintax we have that:
    your java application is at: [...]/MacHD/Programs/MyJavaApp/JavaApp.class
    the Mac application is at:
    [...]/MacHD/Programs/MyMacApp/MyMacApp Program
    The relative path from the former to the latter is, therefore:
    ../MyMacApp/MyMacApp
    where two dots ("..") are the symbol for "parent folder".
    If the situation is similar to above, the code to launch MyMacApp should be something like this:
    import java.io.File;
    File currentDir=new File("");
    //supposing that double dot (..) is the symbol for "parent folder"
    Runtime.getRuntime(
         new File(currentDir,".."
         +File.separator
         +"MyMacApp"
         +File.separator
         +"MyMacApp Program"
         ).getAbsolutePath()
    in a more portable fashion - if you're not sure ".." works
    (? who cares? we're launching a native app :-)) )
    Runtime.getRuntime(
         new File(currentDir.getParent(),
         "MyMacApp"
         +File.separator
         +"MyMacApp Program"
         ).getAbsolutePath()
    );Hope it works... good work!

  • Launching external applications from web start

    Hi!
    I am currently working on a management system and I need to launch other management systems from my Java Web Start application. The other systems are either based on web applications (URLs), telnet - needs to set up a telnet session, or running shell scripts or batch files.
    URLs are ok. I am using Desktop.browse in Java 1.6 or I can use BasicService.showDocument in javax.jnlp API.
    My application may run on both windows and linux (ie its launched from the browser). It interacts with a java app on a linux server over RMI.
    How can I lauch a telnet session from my client app?
    Do I have to include apache commons.net and create a telnet module in my app or can i lauch c:\windows\system32\telnet.exe in windows (if my app is lauched on win) and /usr/kerberos/bin/telnet (if my app is lauched in Linux)?
    How can I launch an external .exe application in window and how can I launch any shell script or program in Linux?
    (same as how do i lauch telnet)
    As long as the user is prompted I can see no risk of denying these kind of things so I hope and think that this should be possible!
    PS. I have managed to do it by using Runtime.exec() when running as a non JWS application, but I cannot do it when running as JWS:
    java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission <<ALL FILES>> execute)I dont want to sign the application either. The reason for choosing webstart was to not have to renew certificates at our customers.
    Please help.
    Thanks for taking interest and reading this.. and I hope that someone has some helpful answers for me :)

    Can anyone help me on this?

    You code is not dealing with the DACL access to Winsta0\Default.  Only the LocalSystem account will have full access and the interactively logged on user which is why regedit is not displaying properly.  You'll need to grant access to your user.
    You also need to deal with UAC since that code is going to give you a non-elevated token via LogonUser().  You need to get the full token via a call to GetTokenInformation() + TokenLinkedToken.
    thanks

  • Launching a page from Oracle Applications (E-Business Suite) 11i

    I have been trying to get a page in an APEX application to authenticate automatically from a menu function in Apps. I have been working from these instructions:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/pdf/Extend_Oracle_Applications_11i.pdf
    I have created the procedures, functions etc as required and have set up the menu entry in apps. However, whenever I try to launch the application, the e-business suite login page is shown. The page doesn't display an error however the URL has the following:
    http://MYHOST:MYPORT/OA_HTML/AppsLocalLogin.jsp?requestUrl=APPSHOMEPAGE&cancelUrl=http%3A%2F%MYHOST%3AMYPORT%2Foa_servlets%2Foracle.apps.fnd.sso.AppsLogin&langCode=US&errText=Invalid+Function.++Please+contact+the+System+Administrator.+Please+login+again.&username=MYUSERNAME&s1=DqwnJQDrCfPsNs0fP7nn-g..I have ommitted some info such as the host and port for security reasons.
    I have tried several things such as editing out parts of the authentication procedure and passwing with no parameters but none work. Has anyone else successfully done this and if so, do youhave any pointers?
    Any help would be much appreciated!
    Cheers,

    I've searched metalink for info on this however everything seems to point to simply having the user type in their username and password. I need to be able to seamlessly pass the credentials across from apps to apex.
    Anyone an ideas!? :)

  • Launch Discoverer 10g from Oracle Applications Menu

    Please provide steps to launch Discoverer 10g from Oracle applications menu.
    Thanks in advance.
    suresh

    Hi,
    Follow these steps....
    The process is in 3 stages _(stage 1 will be done only once for all the reports)._
    Stage 1:
    Set the application discoverer relevant parameters.
    Perform this stage only once.
    1.1 Enter the application in System Administrator responsibility.
    1.2 Choose menu 'Profile' and then submenu 'System'.
    1.3 Find the desired profile by filling 'Icx%Discoverer%' and press Find button.
    1.4 Fill the fields (only the values) as described in the table of values bellow.
    Parameter Value
    ICX: Discoverer Default End User Layer Schema Prefix your eul name without the suffix (_US).
    note that if you have several invs it can be diffrent between them.
    ICX: Discoverer End User Layer Language Override American English
    ICX: Discoverer Launcher http://your_server_name:7777/discoverer/viewer?Connect=[APPS_SECURE]
    ICX: Discoverer Release 10 or any other that you are using
    ICX: Discoverer Viewer Launcher http://your_server_name:7777/discoverer/viewer?Connect=[APPS_SECURE]
    ICX: Discoverer use Viewer Yes (or not if you want plus to open - but change the viewer to plus in the link as well - the previos parameter)
    Don't forget to press save button.
    Stage 1 Ends.
    Stage 2:
    Build an oracle application function for each discoverer report.
    Perform this stage for each report.
    2.1 Enter the application in System Administrator responsibility.
    2.2 Choose menu 'Application' and then submenu 'Function'.
    2.3 Fill needed values in each tab by the next instructions (function values)
    2.3.1 Description tab – fill the function, function user name and the description. Notice that the function value should be without spaces.
    2.3.2 Properties tab – fill the:
    Function with the same name you have choose in the previous tab,
    Type with 'SSWA plsql function',
    Maintenance Mode Support with 'None' (Default value),
    Context Dependence with 'Responsibility' (Default value).
    2.3.3 Form tab- fill the:
    Function with the same name you have choose in the previous tab,
    Form & Application fields leave empty,
    Parameters – there are two options available:
    1st Leave it empty – will cause the function to open the discoverer all reports web page and user will have to choose a specific report from the list .
    2nd Fill it with value '=workbook=name of the workbook' but without spaces, convert the spaces (if there are any) from the workbook name to + (plus) sign.
    For example '=workbook=BI+SERVICE+Performance' represents the string for the 'BI SERVICE Performance' report.
    Note: you can also send parameters to the report but since almost all the parameters have a default value (accept from dates) it's not necessary.
    2.3.4 Web HTML tab – fill the HTML call with ' OracleOASIS.RunDiscoverer'.
    Don't forget to press save button.
    Stage 2 Ends.
    Stage 3:
    Build an oracle application menu or submenu for each discoverer report that represented by the function you has created in stage 2.
    Perform this stage for each pair - responsibility + report/function.
    3.1 Enter the application in System Administrator responsibility.
    3.2 Choose menu 'Security' and then submenu 'Responsibility' and then submenu 'Define'.
    3.3 Locate the needed menu by the responsibility that you want to enable her to use the report – of course that the report should be granted for the responsibility via discoverer mechanism as well.
    Do it by clicking on the flashlight that located in the left upper corner and find the needed responsibility.
    3.4 Find the needed responsibility and select her via next screen (Don't forget to use % as wildcards)-choose by double click on her
    3.5 Copy the menu name that related to the responsibility you have choose from the menu field located in the next screen and close the window.
    3.6 From the navigator screen choose menu 'Application' and then submenu 'Menu'.
    3.7 Locate the menu that you've copied in 3.5 (with the flashlight and the find screen, double click on the menu name – similar to 3.3 and 3.4) via next screen.
    3.8 Press on the 'add record' sign (+) that located in the right upper corner of the screen (Do it after the mouse sign and focus is in the rows as you can see the oval mark).
    3.9 Fill the prompt with what you want the user to see in the menu that will activate the report link and after fill the user function name as you have build her in stage 2 (Don't forget to save it).
    Don't forget to press save button.
    Stage 3 Ends.

  • Launch Adobe Connect from Application

    I have a custom C#/WPF application that allows a user to interact with a remote traveler.  The application will do the following things:
    Launch Adobe Connect
    Login to  an Adobe Connect account
    Send the remote traveler a link to that  Adobe Connect session
    Interact with the remote user with video/audio via Adobe Connect.
      For steps 1&2 I show an embedded html window with the link to login to the account.  This works fine.  After the login succeeds, Adobe Connect takes over the entire screen, which then hides my custom application.
      Is there a way to do this type of launch without Adobe Connect taking over the screen?  I would like to keep it in a browser window of my choosing so I can organize my user's screen.
      Or - is there a better way to launch Adobe Connect from a custom application?
