Layer 2 trunk ports went down due to cisco 4500 core switch !!!

Hi Everyone,
My 2 Layer 2 2960 switchTrunk Ports went down due to cisco 4500 switch. It happening everytime . I rebbot the switch 4500 . then problem disappears but after sometime facing same issue.
Please help.

Hmmmm ... You won't be able to determine anything if you won't provide any addition information.  I mean what do you mean by "went down"?  Did the port go into "error disable"? 
If it went into error disable, console in both switches and post the output to the command "sh interface status err".

    I have an oracle testing instance on Windows NT. It went down every several months due to the same errors. The only difference is the control file number in the error message for every time. I fixed it by restarting the oracle service each time. Below is the error session in the alert log:

    due to this, our database goes down, and it was currepted my Redo file as well. We have taken a Third party backup using named "Symentic". nybody have the idea, how can I avoid this error in future.

  • How to keep a Fabric port always enable in a Cisco MDS 9000 Switch?

    Dear members:
    I work in Datacenter automation solutions using most part of time Virtualization softwares.
    I'm having an interst problem with a server while it is booting thru SAN using a logical volume stored in a EMC DMX4 array.
    We are trying to boot a VMWare ESX 4.1 OS, but when OS tries to change HBA BIOS driver to ESX device driver during boot process, the Server's HBA logged off from MDS Fabric that it is connected, ESX can't boot and I got a ESX standard prompt.
    I think that problem is becuase ESX 4.1 is taking too long to load Storage Drivers during boot process and the consequences is HBA logged off from Fabric.
    I already tried to change FLOGI parameters in HBA and Topology architecture, but I didn't have success.
    If a try to boot a Microsoft OS like Windows 2008, I don't have this behavior, and OS can boot from SAN without any problem.
    Please, if anyone have any idea about how to keep fabric port always enabled, let me know. Any idea or help is very welcome.

  • Spanning Tree Reconfiguration - If Root Port is down.

    Hello All,
    I have some doubt on STP reconfiguration if Root port is down ...Can any one help...?
    As per my understanding, if any port is down due to any reason, the corresponding bridge shall sends a TCN to the root bridge through the root port.
    Lets say if a root port is down on a bridge, and so, the topology has to be re-established. As the root port itself is down, how does the Bridge convey the TCN to the root bridge ?

    Hi Raja, if the root port is down, the TCN notification can't make it to the root bridge since the link is down. The affected device will rely on the last known good bpdu. When the affected device has it's designated port down, it will remove the alternate port from discard once it hits the max age table then progress through the listening, learning, forwarding, at this time the new tcn is sent through the spanning tree topology. Once the TCN reached the root bridge, the root bridge will send a configuration bpdu then the whole spanning tree topology will update.
    It can take up to 52 seconds to have the topology update in the entirety depending on spanning tree mode and size of topology.

  • TRUNK PORTS (HELP URGENT)

    Dear all
    Last night I configured the trunk ports between all my switches, Its a redundant circuit. I did the last one that plugs back into the core switch and it took all of my building out, I could not get to any other switch, For some reason spanning tree blocked the trunk ports that I set up on the last switch !!!!
    When setting up trunks between switches I presume you have to set 2 trunks per switch ? i.e 1 trunk to previous switch and another to the next switch !!!!
    I have never been so scared !!!!

  • Private VLAN Promiscuous Trunk Port - Switches which support this function

    Can anyone confirm if the "Private VLAN Promiscuous Trunk Port" feature is supported in any lower end switches such as Nexus 5548/5672 or 4500X? According to the feature navigator support seems to be restricted to the Catalyst 4500 range (excluding the 4500X) as shown below. If the feature is going to be supported in the Cat 3850 this would be good to know, thanks

    Restrictions for VLANs

    Configuring an interface VLAN router's MAC address is not supported. The interface VLAN already has an MAC address assigned by default.
    Private VLANs are not supported on the switch.

  • Port channel from 2960 to Cisco Core 6513

    I have a Cisco 6513 Core Switch, which is in a vtp domain and the core is the Server.  There are a number of other port channels going from the 6513 to other 2960 switch stacks.  The other switch stacks are in vtp client mode and are getting all vlans form the Server 6513 within this vtp domain.
    I am trying to connect 2 - 2960S FPD L switches, which are connected together via flex module/flex cable.  I have 2 sfp's in the sfp ports on one of these switches and am creating one port channel of 20G(2 10G ports Te1/0/1 and Te1/0/2) going to two 10Gig ports on the Cisco 6513(Te9/7 and Te9/8) as a port channel created on the 6513 end. 
    I want to know first of all if it is possible to keep the 2960's in transparent mode and only allow 2 vlans to go to these 2 2960's.  I don't need all vlans on these switches, and the other 2960 stacks going to the 6513 do have all vlans and are in the vtp domain.  This one would only all vlans 4, and 20.
    Can someone give me an example of the setup on each end to make this work?  I have tried and get a subnet mask error, so I must be going something wrong.  The vlans:  vlan 4: 10.35.3.0/22 and vlan 20 :  10.35.20.0/24 would be the only ones I would want to tag ports for on these 2 2960 switches in transparent mode.
    Wanted to also setup a management interface for vlan 20 so I can remotely connect to 2960 stack.  It would be 10.35.20.30 for the int management IP.

    Many Cisco switches support two methods of trunking - dot1q and ISL.  ISL is a Cisco-proprietary method of trunking.  The 2960's do not support ISL, so dot1q is on by default.  There's no need for the trunk encapsulation command.
    When a frame is transferred over a trunk, dot1q trunking adds a tag to the frame so that the receiving switch knows which vlan the frame belongs to.  Your native vlan is a special vlan which does not have a tag applied.  Among other things, it's used for administrative traffic between the switches such as the messages the switches exchange to negotiate a port channel.  You can use one of your two vlans - vlan 4 or 20 - as your native vlan but it's recommended that you use a different vlan to segregate the traffic.  If you do not specify a native vlan, the switch will use vlan 1 as the native.  It's considered more secure to not use vlan 1 on your network, so it's recommend to have a different vlan explicitly configured as native.  If you're using vlan 1 as native through the rest of the network - if none of your other trunks have a native vlan explicitly configured - it doesn't do much good to change it on this one trunk.  You do not have to explicitly allow the native vlan on the trunk.  If you leave your native vlan as 1 and allow vlans 4 and 20 it will work fine.  You might want to do some research on the security implications and consider changing it through the whole network but that's a separate issue from getting this to work.
    Port channel numbers are locally significant.  They don't have to match on opposite ends of the channel, they just have to be the same on each interface of a particular switch.  You can use either mode desirable or mode on.  It changes the way the switches set up the port channel a little bit but it doesn't change the way the channel operates.

  • Why the Fibre uplink ports are down state even after giving no shutdown command at the interface

    My Predecessors brought 2 CISCO 3750 switches and implemented LACP on these core switches. Due to looping in the network the Fibre uplink ports GigabitEthernet1/1/3 and GigabitEthernet2/1/3 are down (I think these uplink ports are mirrored in the LACP concept)
    Please see below from the configuration.
    I logged into the core switch and went to this particular interface GigabitEthernet1/1/3 and I gave the following command and still the port is in the down state after I gave no shutdown command. Do I need to give the same no shutdown command at interface GigabitEthernet2/1/3 as well ?

    It is possible you are overloading that little 4215. If that is the case you should also be seeing "missed packet percentage" messages in your events.
    How much traffic is your 4215 getting? Those sensors will start to drop packets for inspection at about 30 Mb/s.

  • Port protected on trunk ports

    I have a router to a 3550 switch feeding in a star toplogy one 2950 off each port.  I have port protprected on the ports of each of the 2950s.  The question is can I do port protected on all my trunk ports except the uplink port on the 3550?  I am wanting to stop any user on the network from seeing another.  My other option is to do a vlan per switch but would perfer not to bring down the network as it is already live and in heavy usage.

    Configuring Protected Ports
    Some applications require that no traffic be forwarded between ports on the same switch so that one neighbor does not see the traffic generated by another neighbor. In such an environment, the use of protected ports ensures that there is no exchange of unicast, broadcast, or multicast traffic between these ports on the switch.
    Protected ports have these features:
    •A protected port does not forward any traffic (unicast, multicast, or broadcast) to any other port that is also a protected port. Data traffic cannot be forwarded between protected ports at Layer 2; only control traffic, such as PIM packets, is forwarded because these packets are processed by the CPU and forwarded in software. All data traffic passing between protected ports must be forwarded through a Layer 3 device.
    •Forwarding behavior between a protected port and a nonprotected port proceeds as usual.
    •Protected ports are supported on 802.1Q trunks.

  • Enable BPDUGuard on Spanning-tree Portfast Trunk Port: Yes or No?

    Hello to all the Cisco Experts,
    I have been searching around to get a confirmed answer as per my subject, but yet unable to come into any conclusion that could help me.
    This is all started when I configured the switchport configuration for my ESXi Server which is a dot1q trunk port. The reference will be as below URL:

    The configuration of the switchport will be as below:

    The catch is, I had the bpduguard enabled on the global level in my switch = spanning-tree portfast bpduguard default.
    This will enable the bpduguard on the trunk port above due to the switchport is in portfast (the command: spanning-tree portfast trunk).
    Some of the guys in this forum mentioned that it is not recommended to have bpduguard on trunk port and some mentioned it is okay to have this.
    So, what do you all think on this? Any real life experience dealing with this kind of situtation that can be shared to us over here?

    First of all, I would never, ever, consider any comment of yours as being offensive so don't worry, none taken. :)
    Enabling portfast on a trunk is so "yesterday", in my opinion.  If a trunk port(s) or an etherchannel is configured correctly, there's a significant chance portfast is irrelevant.  The speed to get the ports to go from down to passing traffic is really boils down to one or two seconds.
    Perhaps this is at the core of our different views. To my best knowledge, without the PortFast, a trunk - be it a single port or an EtherChannel - will become forwarding 30 seconds after entering the up/up state, not less. This is valid for STP, RSTP, and MSTP. In addition, if a new VLAN is created or added to the list of enabled VLANs on the trunk, it may take additional 30 seconds for that VLAN to become operational (forwarding) on that trunk. There is nothing besides PortFast and Proposal/Agreement that can cut down this time: the STP must go over the Listening-Learning-Forwarding sequence, and RSTP/MSTP must go through the Discarding-Learning-Forwarding sequence. The "one or two seconds" you have mentioned is perhaps the combined delay incurred by autonegotiation, LACP/PAgP, and DTP, but STP will take its own time and will not be deterred by any of these mechanisms.
    I see no benefit but mischief when you enable BPDU Guard on an inter-switch link.   
    Absolutely agree. That is why it doesn't make any sense to put a BPDU Guard on an inter-switch link, and I have never suggested doing that. The original post, however, deals with enabling PortFast on a trunk link that does not go to another switch but rather connects to an ESXi server on which, obviously, different virtual machines are bridged onto different VLANs.
    So what is the reaction of the port if you do happen to enable portfast and BPDU guard on an inter-switch link?  Wouldn't the two be a "Jekyll & Hyde", wouldn't it?
    It would be just the same as enabling PortFast and BPDU Guard on an access port that happens to be connected to another switch. Upon link-up, the port would become forwarding immediately, and after receiving a BPDU, it would be shot down to err-disabled. The fact the port is an access port or a trunk port makes no difference here. Just as before, I stress that this kind of configuration simply isn't meant to be used on inter-switch links. However, on trunks connected directly to routers, servers, autonomous APs supporting several SSIDs mapped to different VLANs, even to IP phones (remember the mini-trunk config used on old switches on which the switchport voice vlan command only instructed CDP to advertise the voice VLAN but did not cause the port to accept tagged frames in the voice VLAN so it had to be configured as a trunk?) - in all these situations, the PortFast can be beneficial. The BPDU Guard is a natural protective companion to the PortFast - wherever PortFast is eligible to be configured, the BPDU Guard is a natural additional protection to be activated as well.
    But given the complexity of interconnection of different switches to various stuff going around, we're happy with leaving portfast on a trunk port disabled.
    No argument here - but again, this is about trunks between switches on which I would never suggest using the PortFast or the BPDU Guard. The original post is talking about trunks to end hosts (i.e. edge trunk ports if we extend the terminology a little).

    Hello how are you doing? I recently bought an item from you guys, my order number is {removed per forum guidelines}. Specifically I am referring to sku:6731019. Within a few days after I purchased the item and most certainly within the return/exchange period the price was reduced by $50.00. Today December 26th 2014 I called customer service regarding price matching this so that I could be given the $50.00 difference but instead I was told that due to that fact that the best buy website is showing that it is not available as per the price match policy I won't be able to get the priced matched. Please keep in mind I am not asking you guys to honor a competitor's price on an out of stock item, I am just asking that you guys honor your OWN price which changed less than a week after my purchase. Although your policy may be written in black and white, life isn't and I am asking that you guys to review my case in isolation and honor the price. I can't help but wonder if you guys purposely altered the page so that it won't even show a price and just show that it is no longer available. Actually what does that mean? Will it be available again in the near future or you no longer carry the item?  And if it will become available again why wouldn't a simple out of stock label suffice until stock is replenished? I am in no way saying that I know anything about your Web design practices but I think my question is a fair one. Today I spent over an hour on the phone with customer service reps who told me that they can't do anything to resolve my issue as a customer and i also spoke with a supervisor named Kyle who insisted that that was the bottom line and he just can't help me and there was absolutely no one above him I could speak to regarding my case. Apparently he is the CEO.     Hi, My network went down earlier in the week.  Now the network is fine, I can connect through the ethernet cable, but my macbook airport no longer detects it, when prompted, macbook will find it, but I get asked for the WAP.  When I put the password in, it 'times out'.  Prior to the network problem my macbook worked fine everytime. Anyone know the answer?

    My guess is all the issues are probably related and fall back to malware.
    AVG is probably correct in identifying malware. So I suggest you try some cleaning tools other than Emsisoft .
    ones I use (all of them one after the other until I find one that can cope) are;
    Roguekiller http://www.adlice.com/softwares/roguekiller/
    Malwarebytes anti malware Free http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/var2/confirm/
    ESET online scanner http://www.eset.com/int/home/products/online-scanner/
    So first create a clean boot in Windows using Microsoft's instructions https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135?wa=wsignin1.0 and then run the anti malware applications.
    My outside looking in guess is that malware has set itself up as an internet proxy and is is downloading copies of itself and other malware, blocking some mail port as times as downloading more malware is more important, and probably breaking your tivo as well..
    Try the malware programs first. If that does not work I will try and talk you through some logging to see what is happening.

  • Access to trunk port clarification

    I am looking to clarify a point of confusion for myself regrading connecting an access port to a trunk port. Consider the following switchport config on switch1:
    Switch#1
    interface GigabitEthernet0/5
     switchport
     switchport access vlan 6
    ....and the corresponding config on it's neighbor:
    Switch#2
    Interface GigabitEthernet10/8
    switchport
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,6,100
    My first question is- Is this a valid configuration? Secondly, what would the expected results be? I am curious about what vlans would be allowed to pass through..

    This would work fine but not recommended.
    Also the traffic between the switches would be only Native Vlan and vlan 6 will pass through.

    i created all the vlans above on sw2 but you can see only 3 vlans are allowd as you have explicitly defined it.

    I made some changes in rz10 for client copy like:

    PROT=HTTPS,PORT=443$$,PROCTIMEOUT=600,TIMEOUT=600
    icm/server_port_0
    PROT=HTTP,PORT=80$$,PROCTIMEOUT=600,TIMEOUT=600
    login/no_automatic_user_sapstar 0
    After to make changes effective, i stopsap & startsap.
    But unfortunately db is not coming up. I checked startdb.log it showing
    error as " ASE instance not available
    *** ERROR:ASE instance possibly left running when system
    went down(system crash?).
    Notify Database Administrator."
    Please help us to resolve this issue, i have also added startdb.log for
    your reference.
