Ld relocation warning

I'm using Studio 11 on Solaris 10 (sparc) and have come accross a linker warning.
ztty.o is C code, compiled like this
/opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc -Xt -KPIC -g -DSunOS -DZERROR_H  -I/vobs/zplus/src/include/zcl -I/usr/dt/include -I/usr/openwin/include  -c -o obj/SunOS/ztty.o ztty.cWhen I try to link some executables against both libzgb.a and a shared lib from another product (built on the same OS and compiler rev), I get this warning (the executable links successfully in spite of the warning)
file /export/views/rdx1030/rdx1030_view/vobs/zplus/src/localObj/SunOS/lib/libzgb.a(ztty.o): symbol fp:
external symbolic relocation against non-allocatable section .debug_info;
cannot be processed at runtime: relocation ignoredztty.c doesn't include any headers from the .so. But nm shows that there is a symbol fp defined in the .so
[59124] |   7475516|       4|OBJT |GLOB |0    |21     |fpSo I'm guessing that name clash is part of the problem. Is there a simple compiler/linker flag I can turn on to resolve this?

  • Ld relocation warning for polymorphic class declared __symbolic

    The SDN article [Reducing Symbol Scope with Sun Studio C/C++|http://developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/symbol_scope.html|By Giri Mandalika, May, 2005 (revised March 22, 2006) ] says that:
    The mixed use of -xldscope=hidden and __symbolic will yield the same effect as __declspec(dllexport) in DLLs on Windows (explained in the later part of the article).
    However, the Solaris 10 linker (version 5.10-1.482) issues a relocation warning for polymorphic classes declared with the __symbolic specifier, a common practice in DLLs on Windows. The same happens when using the new Sun C++ 5.9 specifier __declspec(dllexport) when building the .so and dllimport when using it as discussed later in the referenced SDN article.
    Is the comment in the article incorrect or is the linker buggy?
    $    cat t.cpp \
      && CC -PIC -DEXPORT=__symbolic -xldscope=hidden -c t.cpp \
      && CC -G -o libt.so t.o \
      && CC -DEXPORT=__global -DMAIN -c t.cpp \
      && CC -o t t.o -L. -lt
    struct EXPORT B { virtual ~B (); };
    #ifdef MAIN
    int main () { B b; }
    #else
    B::~B () { }
    #endif
    ld: warning: relocation warning: R_SPARC_COPY: file ./libt.so: symbol B::__vtbl: relocation bound to a symbol with STV_PROTECTED visibility

    The __global on the declaration is needed in order for the linker to resolve references to the symbol when using it (i.e., in the executable or another .so). Replacing __global with __symbolic on the declaration prevents the executable from linking. Dropping the __global altogether cause the same warning as with __global.
    Btw., the same warning is issued for global data (see below). In the Suggestions on establishing an object interface, the article says:
    >
    2. Define all interface symbols using the __symbolic directive, data objects using the __global directive and reduce all other symbols to local using the -xldscope=hidden compiler option.
    >
    which is again different from the Windows approach, just like in the case of polymorphic classes. Since virtual tables are essentially global objects, the warning seems consistent and suggests that the article is wrong in claiming that:
    >
    The mixed use of -xldscope=hidden and __symbolic will yield the same effect as __declspec(dllexport) in DLLs on Windows...

  • InDesign CS5 won't install Mac OSX Mavericks

    I am currently trying to re-install InDesign CS5 (part of CS5 Design Standard) on an iMac at work because of a problem it was having. I now can't get it to install at all on the mac. I have tried from both the original DVD and from the download from the adobe website.
    I have updated the Java but no success with that.
    I have uninstalled the whole suite and re-installed but Indesign is the only application that fails.
    This is the error I am getting:

    The warning seem to be related to the fact that I use virtual members in classes that are derived and the member overriden. (I'm saying that because I have a similar library with no virual members and I don't get the warnings even if I use the same options).

  • My Mac booted in Apple or Windows crashes without warning.  I do have some logs captured from the Console I would like to share, as I don't know how to interpret them.

    As you can see, the crash happened shortly after 10:00am.  can anyone see what may be wrong here.  The same happens on the Windows side of the MAC.

    As you can guess your harddrive goes bad.
    Boot from CD-ROM into single-user mode
    boot cdrom -s
    Start the format program, select the disk.
    Try to analyze the surface (select a non-destructive test !!!)
    Probably the bad spot can be relocated. If not replace the disk after doing a backup.
    Use format to get the information on the disk-layout
    Try to fsck the slices one by one
    Backup the valuable data to tape

  • Relocating to the US: Wat do I need for HDTV?

    Hi,
    I am relocating from Europe to the US in November. I found an apartment in NYC and the landlord send me different utility applications including cable TV. I will have to buy a new TV in the US (probably Flat-Screen TV with HDTV), but I don't know what to do with the Time Warner Cable application forms.
    They offering me cable television converters, but which one should I choose? These are the possibilities:
    Digital Standard Cable Converters
    Digital Standard Cable DVR Converters
    High Definition Converters
    High Definition DVR Converters
    And what about DVR request? They are offering HDXtra package and/or DVR/HD-DVR.
    I am totally confused!!
    Thank you
    Chris

    Hey Chris,
      Basically, what you are looking at appears to be two different types of service: digital standard and high-definition cable.  Both choices should include the option of an additional DVR, which may come at a slightly higher monthly service fee.
      If all that you’re interested in is basic cable service, you probably will want to choose either the “Digital Standard Cable Converter” or “High Definition Converter” option.  If you want to be able to record your favorite shows as well, you would need to select the “Digital Standard Cable DVR Converter” or “High Definition DVR Converter” option instead.  Remember though that in order to receive the highest resolution broadcasts available (1080i and 1080p), you would need to choose one of the two HD packages.
      Hope this helps you out.

  • NAC SSL CERTIFICATE WARNING

    Hello there,
    I have implemented NAC on my network. I've deployed OOB Virtual Gateway. It used to work fine when i had ver 4.6. My office relocated where everything change including the IP addreses we used on LAN. During the relocation the SSL certificated also expired. Before activating NAC on the new site i decided to upgrade to the current version (4.8) and also installed new certificates (Obtained from internal Microsoft CA Server). The problem is that i'm getting the security Warning 'The certificate you are viewing does not match the name of the site you are trying to view'. I used the ETH0 IP of the CAS in the certificate request. Both ETH1 and ETH0 are having the same IP. Any assistance please. I've tried to request the certificate again, import it and reboot the CAS but the warning keeps on appearing to users.
    regards,
    Stanslaus.

    Ok, it looks like your IE security settings are very tight.
    When the agent starts it will try discover the CAS using the discovery host sending HTTP to the discovery host IP address.
    What happens is that the CAS will spoof this communication and reply to the agent itself. It seems that this action is making your PC to trigger this alarm.
    I guess this is anoying...
    These was see first internally in 4.6 version and was supposed to be fixed in 4.7 and later versions.
    I would advise you to open a TAC case and we can follow up on you to check if there is anything to be done on the agent or PC to get rid of this.
    HTH,
    Tiago

  • Error regarding share relocation object or Position Independent Code.

    Problem related to Shared Object relocation or Position Independent code.
    For reference:
    Specification for -b option with ld (link editor/Runtime linker)
    ========================================================================
    In dynamic mode only, does no special processing for relocations that reference symbols in
    shared objects. Without the -b option, the link-editor creates special position-independent
    relocations for references to functions defined in shared objects. In addition, the
    link-editor arranges for data objects that are defined in shared objects to be copied into the
    memory image of an executable at runtime.
    The -b option is intended for specialized dynamic objects and is not recommended for
    general use. Its use suppresses all specialized processing required to insure an object's
    shareability, and can even prevent the relocation of 64-bit executables.
    ========================================================================
    I want -b option, and also I want working application.
    Please help.

    Please tell how may I prepare a working shared object along with the program (with -b option).
    Thank you.

    The problem seems to be due to the use of -b. The manual warns you that it can prevent proper relocation in a shared library.
    You don't say what compiler you are using, so I tried your example without -b, using Sun Studio 12, with -m64 instead of the deprecated -xarch=v9: (I also added the missing #include <stdio.h> to aux.c)
    % cc -o libaux_64.so -G -m64 aux.c -Kpic
    % cc  -o main_64 -L . -laux_64 -m64  main.c -R .
    % ./main_64

    Hello,

    Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello all
    I am new to JNI and while trying to run my
    to run my first program I am receiving an error in
    compilation of the 'C' file. For ur clarity my taken
    steps are given as follows:
    a. First I created 'HelloNative.java'
    Then I compiled it and after running created the
    the HelloNative.h
    b. Then I wrote the HelloNative.c file and when I
    compile it using MS VC++ then it gives the
    following error:
    --------------------Configuration: helloNative -
    - Win32 Debug--------------------
    Compiling...
    helloNative.c
    f:\bin\hellonative.c(3) : fatal error C1083: Cannot
    open include file: 'jni.h': No such file or directory
    Error executing cl.exe.
    helloNative.obj - 1 error(s), 0 warning(s)
    PLZ HELP ME ON THIS.
    So for a quick patch, copy the jni.h file from the include
    directory of your java installation files to the include
    files that your c complirer has and uses.

    I've determined that this script compiles just fine on my iMac running 10.5.8. My other iMac, which I just installed Snow Leopard on, is the one that is giving me the errors. Any thoughts?
    Fraction.m compiled and ran under Xcode without any problems on my OS X 10.5.5 system. I don't have a Snow Leopard system, so can't reproduce the errors you reported.
    My first guess would be that the difference in your two systems is a difference in the included Object.h file. On my system the included file lives in /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.5.sdk/usr/include/objc. That @interface does indeed declare alloc, init, free, etc.
    From the compiler warnings you posted (which don't include "Can't find Object.h"), I would assume that either the Object.h file at the above path has changed, or that the wrong Object.h file is being included. The latter needs to be ruled out because (at least on my system) there are several Object.h files intended for different purposes. So for example, if your Snow Leopard Xcode isn't searching in the same folders, or if the correct Object.h has been relocated, it's entirely possible the wrong file is being included during the build.
    Determining which possibility applies in your case may require some familiarity with OS X and Xcode, and I don't know if +just getting started with Objective C+ means just that, or whether OS X and all of the developer tools are also new for you. If the code you posted is part of an isolated exercise and you won't be using Object.h much in the future (since it's not used in Cocoa), my advice would be to stay on the system that works until you're done with the current exercise.
    If you have a requirement to program in Obj-C without using Cocoa for an extended period of time, I'm sure someone here can help you find out what happened to Object.h on your Snow Leopard system. Of course things will be a lot easier if that help comes from someone who already has Snow Leopard.
    You can get started by looking at the Object.h file Xcode is including. You can do this by selecting Object.h in a text editor window, then selecting File->Open Quickly from the top menu (see Opening Files by Filename or Symbol Name in the Xcode Workspace Guide). Is your Active SDK set to 10.6? If your Snow Leopard Xcode has the option to set the Active SDK to 10.5, see which Object.h file gets included in that case.
    Hope that helps!

  • Removing Resolution Warning?

    So I've bought an Apple mini-DVI to video adapter so I can use front row on my TV. One caveat - when I try to use any photos in front row, it will hang indefinately because iPhoto will open and display a warning that my output resolution is too low. No kidding... it's connected to a 10 year old TV. So I was wondering if there was any possible way to disable this warning permanently so I can use front row without having to get up and close the warning every time.
    Thanks!
    -Chris

    Output resolution too low...of the decade old boob-tube, huh? It's a shot in the dark, but apparently the resolution of the TV isn't compatible with the hardware/software mix.
    I've never tried it, but perhaps resizing the images to a lower resolution might help? Maybe make a smart album of a test set of images. Dupe them and resize them to, what? 36ppi or something. Give that a shot?
    Hope that helps!

  • I am getting a warning message when i am trying to create a host-named sitecollection.

    Hi guys,
          I am trying to create a host-named site collection. I have created the root site collection. After that i have tried to create customer root site. I have doing this process with the guidance of this link.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc424952.aspx#section2a
    When i tried to create a customer root site. I am getting a warning message
    " WARNING: The port specified for the new host header site does not match any known bindings in the specified Web
    Application.  The new site will not be accessible if the Web Application is not extended to an IIS Web Site serving
    this port."
    I couldn't when this warning message comes. I tried to bind the server with webapplication which is created for host-named site collection. No use.
    Can anyone help me to solve. And i wanna know why this error message comes!!!
    Thanks in advance
    Rajendran.

    First, you shouldn't create a host named site collection on a Web app that has host header named.  Doing that implements host names at two different levels and will not work reliably.  Second I'm not sure what you mean when you say you didn't
    use the FQDN but used just the domain name.  A Full url will always be either an FQDN or a shorter Netbios name.  If you use a Netbios name it simply assumes the local AD domain of the workstation to create an FQDN as the url  There is no way
    to use just the domain name.  For example, Contoso.com is the domain name.  Server.contoso.com or WEbsite.contoso.com are FQDNs.  YOu can also use a shorter version that is just server or website, but when those resolve in TCP/IP they would
    still resolve using server.contoso.com or website.contoso.com if the workstation where your browser is was in the contoso.com domain.  What is the URL for your root site and your host named site?

  • Warning message in ALV report

    Hi Experts,
    In ALV report i am getting warning like
    " Field string LS_HEADER is not referenced statically"
    Actually i declared this field as "DATA: ls_header TYPE slis_listheader.".
    How to correct this warning message.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,
    Madhu.

    Dear Madhu,
    You are not using LS_HEADER statically that you have defined in the program. You will get a warning message since you have defined a field that you have not referenced statically.
    Are you using this field dynamically? You can delete/comment the code if you are not using it statically and dynamically.

  • Warning message in BW Report  through Portal

    Friends,
    I really need your help to remove the waring message.
    For the purpose of changing the description on the Selection screen from “Cost Cetnters (Authorised Values)” to “Funds Centers” I had changed the ZCCTRATI variable description to Funds Centers
    Issue:
    When we open the old report we see the following information message.
    " Value if variable ZCCTRAT1 is automatically converted
    I did go to TC RSRT as of Dinesh,Vijay advice ,Just want to know that what message i need to Click .because i could nt find the relevant message
    Can u help me how to remove this ?

    Hi Manohar,
    Edit to add: Here I assume you have a Web Application Designer (WAD) report.
    You can suppress system and warning messages in WAD. Try this and see if it helps.
    - Go to your WAD report
    - In the top part of the properties window there is a drop down box. Open this box and select the top level entry there. This should be the name of your report.
    - Click Web Item
    - Check the following two checkboxes: "Do not Display System Messages" and "Do not Display Warnings".
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Petter
