Leopard Server beta testers:  Anyone have it actually working?

I am beta testing Leopard Server 10 client version for only $499.
Anyone have Leopard Server running without problems?
Just want to know if anyone out there has gotten server to work for them?
Thanks

I gave Leopard server a try today. Here's my experience:
I use SoftRaid 3.6.4 as the raid driver on my G4 XServe with 4 ATA drives in the server and two external FireWire drives. Two of the internal drives are one Raid 0 volume and the 10.4 boot drive.
I used SuperDuper to make a backup image of my OS X Server boot drive, which is one logical volume on two physical disks.... in a RAID 0 configuration internal drives on the XServe. The backup is a single disk in a firewire external Granite enclosure. I booted from the cloned copy and ran for a while just to make sure the clone was good. No problems yet.
I then booted the Leopard Server CD and was able to do an UPGRADE install on the external firewire drive image. This process went smoothly with no problems.
Unfortunately, Leopard server is another story. The upgraded system isn't doing well: I couldn't get Apple Remote desktop from my laptop to connect to Leopard nor was I able to get the IMAP email server to work. Client machines just sat and "spinned" trying to make a connection. Had to monkey around with permissions to get 10.5 web pages working using Safari running on the Server. These pages worked perfectly on 10.4 with the same permissions. When trying to access the web pages from a client on the same subnet, was unable to connect. Web services were running fine and the firewall settings seemed OK so I'm not sure what is going on. So I powered down the external drive and will wait a and think about trying the upgrade again. Kind of wasted 4 or 5 hours today hoping this upgrade would be smoother.
I'll probably start over and do a clean install and export and import settings to 10.5. Not a particularly fun prospect.....
Leopard client was a simple process to move from 10.4 to 10.5. Leopard Server looks like a lot of work and hassle to me at this time.

Try charging the ipod touch on a wall charger and make sure the outlet is working. And leave it there for 10 minutes.
Or try holding the power and home until apple logo appears.

  • Does anyone have URL replacement working for catalog generated from wiki pages library

    Hi everyone,
I have created a catalog from a wiki library which surfaces news/event/announcement articles to a publishing site (with make URLs relative to this site selected).  This works well after modifying the item page and specifying the content as HTML regarding
    the functioning of category/item pages.
The only issue which remains is that hyperlinks between wiki pages are not replaced in the target site (they always point to the wiki pages within the authoring site collection rather than to their catalog counterparts in the publishing site).  It is
my understanding that with publishing pages from a pages library these links are replaced to point to other items in the catalog connected site rather than the source.
Is this just by design (only working for publishing pages rather than wiki pages), or does anyone have this replacement working?
If this does not work it kind of defeats the purpose of the catalog here and I might as well give everyone access to the authoring library and just use a CSWP in the publishing site to redirect to the authoring wikis.  Not terribly nice from a layout,
    navigational or conceptual standpoint though.

Just to add a bit more info to this... looking at the coreclient.log file you can plainly see that the page view took 50367ms to complete.... if anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Firefox will not play .ogv video files when loaded from a server. Does anyone have any answers that will fix this?

I've read the suggestions for fixing this, and none of them work. I've updated my .htaccess to match MIME types for .ogv, I've uploaded the files as both Binary and ASCII, neither method works. The .ogv file plays fine when you load it from a local file, but it will not play when viewed from a remote server. I've confirmed with my hosting company that the .htaccess and all other issues for HTML5 are up-to-date. Safari and Chrome play the HTML5 videos just fine, but Firefox will not. Does anyone have any concrete answers as to what the problem is. I'm also serving up the video files as .webm and .mp4, but neither of these formats works in Firefox either.

That can happen if the server isn't configured properly to send the files with a by Firefox supported MIME type.
Did you check via the Web Console which headers Firefox receives when requesting the .ogv file?
If that is OK then it is possible that the file is using an unsupported coding method.

  • Leopard Server VPN L2TP Not receiving connections, PPTP works fine??

    All,
Setting up a new OSX Snow Leopard server. The server is NOT running the firewall service. I created an L2TP VPN, with PPTP. PPTP works fine... however I am unable to connect to the L2TP.
I receive the error: The L2TP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting, if the problem continues, verify your settings.
The server is behind an apple airport N router. I've tried connecting from both inside and outside (outside I mapped ports UDP 1701, 4500, and 500) with no luck. I even tried creating a VPN connection from the actual server to itself, and get the same error.
The logs show nothing - The extension is loaded, listening for connections, and nothing at all after that even after a connection try is made. PPTP works fine, and lots of logs there.
    Appreciate any help!!

I too since yesterday am having the same issue. It's as if the L2TP tunnel is not making it thru the Airport N DualWireless to the MacMini server. It was running just fine up until yesterday when I installed Security Update 2010-001 v1.0. I can use PPTP outside my network all day long and I can even use L2TP from inside my network just fine so I know the server is responding to local requests. I have tried from cell modem, client T1, client cable internet with no joy. I have rebooted AEBS & Server with no results. When trying L2TP from outside LAN and watching log in realtime it does not even show it's trying. I had this issue once before when I had mobileme "back to my mac" turned on and it was causing an issue but it's off and hasn't been on in some time. I suspect the update. Did you install that update?

  • Does anyone have stateful plsql working in 8.1.7 (solaris) ?

I've been trying to get stateful plsql working in 8.1.7 on a sun server (2.6). I've been through the OSE User's Guide and various other documents on Metalink regarding the setup of OSE. I appear to have OSE processing java servlets in a stateful manner but I can't seem to get PLSQL to do that. I have a trivial plsql package that just adds 1 to a package variable then prints it in a one line web page output. The first few http request cause the variable to increment then suddenly it goes back to 1 on another request from the same browser session. I see multiple database dedicated sessions for the user running the http session (scott/tiger). Whenever the counter goes back to one I see that another session has been created and apparently that is the "new" one that causes a "new" version of the package to be instantiated.
I'm thinking i should see these sessions using MTS rather than dedicated.
MY guessing that I have some problem with configuration of either the init file mts stuff, tnsnames.ora, listener.ora, or maybe the config of the simple testService stuff in JDNI.
So, is there anyone who has this working that could send me a consistent set of config information for the above collection of files, etc??
    Thanks in advance.

oops, sorry, just noticed that I posted this in the wrong forum.

The site files are on our server and I can still access them.  I was not the one who installed and set up Dreamweaver initially and don't know very much about the program  Just enough to manage our simple site and keep it updated.  Just need help setting it up so that it's back to managing our website.

Go to Site > New Site and define your site.  See screenshots:

  • Does anyones macbook pro ACTUALLY WORK w/o having to be repaired?

Did anyone in the whole forum get a macbook that never had to be repaired/called in for to fix?
Sounds like their quality control went out the window with this one.. im waiting on my second unit today and reading the forums is just depressing because its probably going to be screwed up too..

My guess is that the majority of MBPROs have some issue or other right off the bat. Maybe this isn't true of the latest models coming off the production line - say in the last few weeks - but I'd bet money that it's true of 80%+ of the older machines. And I'm also restricting my claim to the 15-inch models, as I have been paying much less attention to the 17-inch model.
The reason I say this is not merely because of all the complaints on the forum. Nor am I claiming this based on the repair history of my own personal machine. Rather, I say this because it's possible to take some particular MBPRO issue that is discussed here on the forum, and to go into your local Apple Store and duplicate this issue on every single machine!
Two examples of this are the notorious 'whine', and the right speaker distortion issue. Since early June I've been into the local Apple store every 2-3 weeks, and until very recently (roughly 2 weeks ago) I hadn't found a single MBPRO that didn't exhibit the whine. Ditto for the right speaker distortion issue.
Now maybe I am being overly picky, and we should really consider these machines as 'working just fine'. But the fact is that there are widespread manufacturing defects/design flaws, as these issues are reproducible on the majority of the older systems. People who are less picky than I am are obviously not going to complain, as they don't consider their machines to be flawed.
I'd like to say that the majority of recently-built MBPROs are free of these issues, but I haven't had much experience with the newer machines... If I keep going into the store and failing to find the issues, then I'll change my tune about the build quality. But it would be nice if I weren't going into the store every 2-3 weeks in the first place!

  • Does anyone have a Portal working with 50 or more Users concurrently ?

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYBODY HAS A PRODUCTION PORTAL WITH 50 OR MORE USERS WORKING CONCURRENTLY.
I AM INTERESTED TO KNOW HOW PORTAL PERFORMS WITH MANY USERS.
ANY ADVICE OR SUGGESTIONS WILL BE VERY WELLCOME.
    TKS!

Without knowing your hardware setup, your functional requirements, and the user base, and can't answer that question with 100% certainty. But, I can tell you that a multiple server configuration will definitely provide you with more performance and scalability (assuming proper configuration).
As far as using Standard Edition vs Enterprise Edition, there will be no differences from a performance/scalability perspective. With Enterprise edition you get some tools you don't get with Standard Edition such as WebCache, Forms, Reports, Discoverer, 8i Cache (database cache), and iFS. I'm not certain if you get OID with both editions, but I think you might. If you dont have OID you wont be able to use the LDAP authentication features of Portal (unless you already have your own LDAP directory service set up).
The product lists are from my memory (not always dependable), so you should verify those through your sales representative before making any decisions.
    Hope this helps...

  • Does anyone have personal hotspot working w/ iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.2, & T-Mobile (USA)?

I currently can't get my personal hotspot feature working on my iPhone 5 with T-Mobile USA. I'm trying to figure out where my issue lies, whether it's bad hardware, a bug in iOS, or an issue with my T-Mobile account. I have the latest iOS update (6.0.2).
It doesn't work no matter how I try to connect to it (wi-fi, bluetooth, USB).
When I try via wi-fi, the wireless icon in the top right (in Mac OS X) does its little connecting animation, and then shows an exclamation point "!".
When I try via Bluetooth, the Bluetooth PAN status in Network settings reads "Not Connected", even though I have it paired.
When I try via USB, the iPhone USB status in Network settings reads "Not Connected", even though I have my iPhone plugged into my MacBook Pro.
And yes, I have the hotspot option on my wireless plan with T-Mobile.

I can happily say that whatever the issue was, the iOS 6.1 update has fixed it. So it must have been an iOS issue.

  • Does anyone have three monitors working?

A friend of mine who enjoys the piece of mind of using Linux, but not the poking and prodding recently "inherited" a good monitor in addition to the two he already had.
He has two Nvidia cards. One came with the computer and has one out while the other card is much nicer and has dual outputs.
Has anyone gotten three monitors to work in Linux? I googled, but it seems that most of the things I read are from 2004-ish, and it wasn't so good back then.

    AFAIK
one screen on the old card, one screen with 2 monitors on the new one and in the ServerLayout section you declare both screens ala

    Identifier "MEGAMONITORZ"
    Screen "OldScreen"
    Screen "NewScreen" LeftOf "OldScreen"

  • Snow Leopard Server AFP Performance

We have a number of xserves in our school district running 10.5 Leopard Server for Network Home Directories. Performance in the past has often been a major issue. CPU spikes on the servers often slowed things down dramatically.
Recently we upgraded 2 of our servers that had been running poorly to Snow Leopard Server.
    What a difference.
CPU average is now BELOW 20%... and I have only seen a handful of spikes... but none of them over say 60% Total CPU utilization.
Anyone else see this dramatic of a difference? Since this played out in 2 of our buildings the same way... we are thinking that something on Snow Leopard Server is dramatically better.
I have since actually loaded even more of our users from 10.5 Servers to a Snow Leopard server and still have not seen a performance issue. Are we crazy lucky.. or are others seeing this as well?

    Hi
Everywhere I have installed 10.5 server, they performed bad. Actually the CPU was working overtime.
This has happend on 2 intel Xservers and an old Dual G4 1.25Ghz server. The G4 performed much much better with 10.4 server.
So if you have an old powerPC server, use 10.4 server instead of 10.5

  • SCOM 2012 SNMP Trap - Does anyone have it working?

I am wondering if anyone out there has had any luck with getting SNMP Traps to be captured by SCOM 2012?  Probes work fine.
We have been unable to get SCOM 2012 to receive a SNMP Trap from network devices.  We currently have a case open with Microsoft, but they dont have any answers as of yet.
Here are the cliff notes version of what we have done so far.
    Discovery - OK
The nodes discover without issue.  I made sure they were set to SNMP only.  I did this to verify we were talking SNMP and not just ICMP.
    Open Ports/Firewall Issues
No firewalls are in place on the SCOM server and none exist between devices we are trying to get traps from.  Using a port tool, I can see that UDP 162 is listening as expected and its the System Center Management Host Process that is running the
process.  We have tried having SNMP installed, but disabled, installed and running, and uninstalled.  Currently we have the SNMP service installed and running.  The SNMP Trap Service is NOT installed.
    Data Validation
Using Wireshark running on the SCOM box I have been able to validate the OIDs we are searching for are hitting the SCOM server.  I installed an SNMP Trap generator and Receiver on my local machine as well as Jalasoft SNMP Simulator.  I was able
to discover my local machine as a network device and if I send a TRAP from the TRAP generator on my local machine to the receiver on my local machine I can validate the data is coming through ok.
What has been done on SCOM side
The simplest place to look for data is with an Event Collection Rule and then an Event View Monitor.  We have set up an Event Based Monitor to search for an OID that I know to be accurate and then I set up an Event monitor to look for
anything hitting that Collection Rule.  The Event monitor showed nothing so we changed the EVent Monitor to look for anything that hit Node which should show any SNMP traps that have hit from network devices.  No results.
We tried to run WFAnalyzer from the 2007R2 Authoring Console, but it wont run against 2012 and from what I have found the 2012 edition doesnt exist anywhere yet.
So has anyone succesfully received a SNMP TRAP into SCOM 2012?

    Hi,
As this thread has been quiet for a while, we assume that the issue has been resolved. At this time, we will mark it as "Answered" as the previous steps should be helpful for many similar scenarios.
In addition, we’d love to hear your feedback about the solution. By sharing your experience you can help other community members facing similar problems.

How could you possibly mark this as answered? No answer was given, it was quiet for a couple of days including one of which was a holiday in the US. The previous steps are NOT helpful.  The question remains, Does anyone have it working?
People have given troubleshooting advice, but nobody has actually answered the simple question.  Do they have it actually WORKING?

  • Windows VNC clients cannot connect to Snow Leopard Server native VNC server

I am resurfacing the following related comment made in another post that discusses the same issue I am having with VNC on Snow Leopard. This is still an issue and I cannot connect to our Xserve's Snow Leopard Server with a VNC client on Windows.

Re: Newbie: Connect Windows -> OSX Server
Posted: Nov 4, 2009 9:26 AM in response to: Antonio Rocco
I would politely disagree. Yes, definitely, the Mac 'Screen Sharing' app works a treat, and Apple Remote Desktop.app works as well, but I am coming from a Window's PeeCee.
For me, connecting to my 10.5(.8) Server via tightvnc gives 'Server did not offer supported security type!". Using RealVNC to this machine states "No matching security types Do you wish to reconnect to ... ?" a telnet to this AppleVNCServer service (port 5900), shows RFB 003.889 *, or Remote Frame Buffer Major 3, minor 889.
Also, connecting to multiple 10.6(.1) Clients with Tightvnc correctly asks for a password but then hangs at "Status: Security type requested". Using RealVNC opens, connects, asks for authentication, and exits. Telneting to this AppleVNCServer service (port 5900), also shows RFB 003.889 *.
The Current Version of the protocol is supposed to be 3.8, that is Major version 3, minor version 8. Not 80 or 800 but Eight). http://www.realvnc.com/docs/rfbproto.pdf and I believe that tightvnc only supports up to version 3.7.
On each station I have installed the 'old' OSXVnc.app as a service (to a unique port). OSXVnc utilizes protocol 3.3 and I can control them successfully, but that is of my own doing because of this issue.
Now JollysFastVNC works a treat to any machine I have EVER tried to connect to. I have not tried COTVNC or any of the others (too slow for me, when they wer e around)
Also, I just noticed that RealVNC states that their free and personal version will not connect to Mac OSX (x86 and PPC) but the Enterprise one will. I just Dl'ed the Enterprise Viewer and it gave essentially the same thing ('protocol is not valid' message, even after it asks for a password). Anyway, I am not here to hijack this thread, just trying to keep the info flowing and open.
Maybe I am the only one with these problems but the bottom line is I cannot use Real or Tight, or UltraVNC to administer my server or clients as long as AppleVNCServer gives out the 003.889 protocol version.

Searching on the net brought me to the same solution that Mr. Hoffman found as well, I was a bit skeptical at first but since he recommended it, and all my other attempts failed, it was a last resort and I have some additional notes of my own for a successful solution. Read the two links below first before doing anything, as they contribute to the solution in tandem.
