Library order?!?!

I opened itunes today and discovered my long-time library order was in disarray. Normally it's ordered by album, with '(What's the Story) Morning Glory' first, now my 'Album' order has changed to 'Album by artist' and the first album belongs to '3 Doors Down'.
What the heck is going on?!?! I have no abum order any more?!?!?
I have tried view options but album appears to be album by artist now....
any ideas how to get album order back?
BY the way, album order is still available in playlists.

Panic not. Click on the bar where it says Album by artist - you may need to click twice.

• Sharing iPhoto Library - Order in which albums appear

A friend is sharing her iPhoto library on her iMac over her home wireless network to a MacBook Air. This works well except that the list of albums on the MacBook Air doesn't seem to bear any resemblance to the order in which they appear on the iMac. As she has a lot of albums it can be difficult to find the one she wants on the MacBook Air.
Is there a logic to the order in which albums are listed on the Mac which is accessing the shared albums?
Thanks for any advice!
Andrew Spackman

Just ran a test and was able to rearrange the albums in my iPhoto library and got the same order in Front Row. So it's doable.
Have you rebuild the library? Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.
If that doesn't help open the library package and move the AblumData.xml and AlbumData2.xml files to the Desktop. Launch iPhoto and then Front Row.
Next, delete the Front Row preference file, com.apple.frontrow.plist, and try again.

• Changing Library Order

How do I get iTunes to play a favorite radio station whenever I start it? Now, it automatically starts by playing the first item in my library. Like most people, my library is populated with ripped songs and radio stations, and the program won't allow me to put my radio stations at the top of the list. Apple: why can't I hit play and listen to what I want (or even what I was last listening to before I exited,) without expanding the window, navigating to the bottom of the library list, and selecting the radio station? Every morning?!?

You can't reorder tracks in the library by dragging into position like you can in a playlist, in the library you can only choose sort orders by clicking at the top of columns. However try this, I found that it works for me when CDs get out of order. Right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose **Track Number** from the list. Click at the top of this new column to sort it and after that click on the Album column. If you like you can then click on Artist which is how I prefer mine ordered, it will continue to hold the track order as well. Afterwards anything you import should follow this arrangement Artist>Album>Track Number within Album (you can hide the track number column when you've done if you don't want it cluttering up the view)

• Library order messed up since Version 6

Hello forum users!
Quite a while I downloaded iTunes 6.x, just to get the latest version. Just since this version the alphabetical order in the Library seems somehow strange. Bands who start with "The" (for example "The Beatles", "The Beastie Boys") used to be found under their names first letter (in this case "B"), but now, all of them are under "T" like "The". I think this is totaly unprofessional and I like to change it back if possible - does somebody have a solution for this problem?
Thanks a lot for your answers!
+Alex

You may have a non-English version (German?) that is sorting 'The' in the title. The complete English running version skips this.
If you're running a language different than English, iTunes will ignore the local article equivalents of "The". Like in German, it would be "Die", sort of thing.
See this post for a start: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=802663#802663
Also search on "iTunes" and "English" to find other threads like it. I have seen the solution out there for your issue. I just do not have it handy.

• MY LIBRARY BACK-UP...MY WAY

I know Apple wants me to build a library their way, with artist first names first...I don't! I want it MY way, and that is fine until you need to reestablish that library.
I now wish (need) to put my music (separate drive) and my library on a new Mac. Does anyone know a simple way to do this without using the "let iTunes scramble it our way" check box?
I just need to move it to another Mac and keep the library order the way I wish; like artist last names first - comma - first name. Seems iTunes could use a compiler, but until they delight us with one, I need this workaround.
I added the new library sort on my old iPod and it synced and wrote what it needed--no fuss, why can't a library "sync compile" the same way on a Mac?
Anybody out there make this easy for me or do I need to work the weekend with this? PLEASE?

No.

• I can't install any dmg files

I can't install any dmg files and I can't find CoreService nor DiskImageMounter under Library order neither. I think they're missing.
Please Help.

They should come up when you double click on the DMG file.
If you are getting a terminal windows when you double click on a DMG file then something has switched the Default program from Installer.app and or DiskImageMounter.app to terminal.
Right click on the DMG and select Get Info. In the windows that comes up find the Open with section then select DiskImageMounter.app and click Change All.
Both DiskImageMounter.app and Installer.app are in /System/Library/CoreServices. But that folder may be hidden. So you will need to use the Go Menu item "Go to Folder" and type in what I posted above to find it.

• 1.1: Date/time confusion after edit in CS3

My apologies if this has been discussed already; I could not find a relevant thread in the forum.
About a month ago I shot a number of images in a timezone three hours west of where I live, without adjusting the camera's clock. Imported the raw images into LR 1.0 and adjusted the capture time back three hours to reflect the local time of capture. Edited some of those images directly in LR 1.0, some by launching PSCS3 from LR 1.0. Any image edited in PSCS3 would appear right next to its original in LR library (sorted by capture time).
Installed LR 1.1. The library order for images edited (direct or externally) in LR 1.0 has not changed. So far so good. HOWEVER, now when I edit an image in PSCS3, the result no longer appears next to its original. Instead, it appears to be ordered as if the capture time had not been adjusted, even though my grid view shows the adjusted capture time.
Has anyone else see this?
Thanks,
Rich

I had the same "is not a known entity type" error when running under a development environment Eclipse/Tomcat using Toplink. But the almost same code and configuration worked when running under Eclipse as a stand-alone Java app.
Eventually I figured out (actually trial and error), that I had checked the toplink-essentials.jar libraries to be exported under: Eclipse Project/Java Build Path/Order and Export. I was messing around with libraries. Unchecking the export option there fixed the problem.
While its unlikely that this could have been your exact problem, I would check the library order and export configurations. Looking at other message boards about this problem, many seemed to have been caused or fixed by playing with their libraries.

• Help with iTunes playlist sync

Hi,
It seems that newer versions of iTunes (9) do not sync my playlist in the right order. My playlist is a 'smart' playlist and has a ruleset designed to filter for additions to my library that have been recently added within the last couple of months. The problem is that the library order (sorted by 'Date Added' in iTunes) does not sync in said order on my iPod touch 1st or 3rd generation. I am not sure how it is syncing but it's not alphabetical either, it appears to be random as I have looked at all the metadata fields and none sort the playlist how it is showing up on the iPod. If I remember correctly, I had no issues with this with earlier versions of iTunes before 9. So far i've tried, re-installing iTunes and wiping my iPod and resyncing everything which hasn't worked. Just want my playlist to sort the same way on the iPod as it is in iTunes.
Details of the smart playlist i'm working with:
Match All = checked
Date Added - is after - ##/##/####
Genre - does not contain - Podcast
Genre - does not contain - Audiobook
Genre - does not contain - TV Shows
Kind - does not contain - Movie
Grouping - does not contain - book
Kind - does not contain - video
Time - is less than - 30:00
Limit to = unchecked
Match only unchecked items = unchecked
Live updating = checked

Smart playlists are not working correctly in iTunes 9.
Also, your playlist is kinda messed up.
Try this...
Match all;
Playlist is Music
Date added is after ##/##/####
Time - is less than - 30:00 (do you have any songs longer than 30 minutes? If not, delete this)
Live updating enabled
++++
I would not use these...
Genre - does not contain - Podcast
Genre - does not contain - Audiobook
Genre - does not contain - TV Shows
Use *Kind does not contain* instead of *Genre does not contain* because the Genre may not be a podcast or TV Show or Audiobook.

• The music I sync into my iPod touch is all literally out of order and in the library it's not. Why is this?

I checked the starting time for songs in the library and on my iPod and they all say 0:00. What I mean when I say it's out of order is for example, the first ten seconds are skipped and placed somewhere in the middle of the song and some other parts are skipped then played later. I didn't have this problem before I updated iTunes for my new iPod, now when I tried syncing onto my old iPod as well, the same thing happens. So there's nothing wrong with my iPod. I want to know how I can fix this on iTunes or if it's just a glitch on my iTunes?

Something you can try is resetting it all Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings. Or go to Settings > Store & sign out & log back in. Another thing you can do is restore your ipod. This has happened to me but the only thing i did was that i created a new account but try doing the things above i just told you. :)

• I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library. When I tried to transfer it to my iPod shuffle it rearranged the tracks so that they are in the wrong order. How can I put them in the order they appear in the book?

I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library. When I tried to transfer it to my iPod Shuffle it put the chapters in the wrong order i.e. Chap 1, Chap 10, Chap 11 etc. rather than Chap 1, Chap 2, Chap 3 ... How can I get it to put them in the order they appear in the book?

First, we need to know if the audiobook chapters are being treated by iTunes as music files or as audiobooks. If they are not audiobooks purchased from the iTunes store, they might be getting "shuffled". You will need to look at "File" - "Properties" (I think - I don't use iTunes under Windows - or right-click on the file and choose "properties") and look at the media type. If it is "Music", change it to "Audiobook". If this is not the problem, or does not fix anything, please post back.
Actually, looking at your post again, a second thought occurs to me - assuming there are less than 100 chapters in the book, just renaming them with a leading zero on the first nine chapters might do it. A computer will alphabetically sort filenames in the order you quote (1, 10, 11, 12, 13, ... 2, 21, etc.) but a leading zero will fix that (01, 02, 03 ... 10, 11, 12)

• My library is a mess, how can I put it in good order?

I have been backing up my library on different hard drives and over time have added songs from different sources. Subsequently I have several libraries on several hard drives one with 130 gigs of songs one with 190 gigs of songs other with varying amounts of songs. None is the same and each has songs inside of folders that are inside of folders and so on so I can not tell what is duplicate or not. There are so many duplicates of each song on any given hard drive and even on an individual hard drive that I am wasting many gigs of space on just dupes or near dupes.
Is there a way of consolidating all my songs and videos on one hard drive into one library with only one copy of each song and video without manually going through each file and subfile and so on.
I guess I could drag every song out of every folder and subfolder into one long list of songs in alphabetical order and then just edit out dupes, but that would take many hours of manual drag and drop work and would probably (I think) make my songs not be recognized in iTunes.
What can I do?
Thanks for your assistance.

• Can I use icloud to store my iTunes library music in order to free up storage/usage space on my iPhone?

Can I use icloud to store my iTunes music library in order to free up usage space on my iPhone and iPad?

iTunes match is a true streaming service when it comes to playback from your PC. That means, you can load everything into the cloud and stream from the cloud to your PC.
To an iPhone or iPad, it's stream-and-save, meaning it will download and play immediately, but it will be saved to the device.
So yes, you can load everything up (assuming it all loads properly without problems) and stream to your PC.
