Libthai-0..1.13.i686.pkg.ta.gz not found what next

on
# pacman -S xfce4
I get the errror failed retrieiving file 'libthai-0.1.13-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz'
did someone at the mirror screw up? I'm not really interested in thai so I'm not sure why arch should install this but it is a show stopper now. What next? Compile it myself?

see this news item: http://www.archlinux.org/news/482/
i would just wait for a day or two.
also libthai seems to be required for other packages. that might explain why you have it on your system.

    ran pacman -S mpd
    Targets: libmikmod-3.1.12-1  libsamplerate-0.1.2-4  mpd-0.13.1-2
I was able to get the first and third fine when Synching the package, but all the mirrors failed to retrieve libsamplerate-0.1.2-4. Do I need to download and compile the newest version of libsamplerate myself or will the pacman repositories obtain it?
edit: I compiled -0.1.3 myself. hopefully that will do it.
Last edited by elephantos (2008-05-14 00:43:00)

In such situations one would do:
    pacman -Syy
Current libsamplerate version is 0.1.3, the database information is not in sync, so it's refreshed. Compilation is not a solution. If after running the above you still can't get it to install, it's possibly a bug or a fault somewhere which you shouldn't ignore.

  • Sudo-1.8.4-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz causes sudo/gksudo to fail

Sudo and gksudo from the sudo-1.8.4-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz package fail with me, often producing a 'cannot open display' error, despite having 'Defaults env_keep += "HOME"' in /etc/sudoers. Happens with any program I'm trying to run. Downgrading to sudo-1.8.3.p2-2-i686.pkg.tar.xz makes everything work again as expected.
Has something in the sudo logic or configuration changed, or is this a bug or whatever?

Yes, I have experienced the same problem. After playing around with visudo, I commented the "Defaults env_keep += "HOME" option that I added in /etc/sudoers (therefore disabling it) and sudo/gksudo started functioning again for graphical applications. Something definitely changed, but I have no idea what..
    From the Arch Wiki this variable does the following;
    "Run X11 apps using sudo
To allow sudo to start graphical application in X11, you need to add
Defaults env_keep += "HOME" to visudo."
But now it seems with the new sudo package that adding "Defaults env_keep += "HOME" disables the functionality of sudo/gksudo for X11 apps on my end?

I tried to change servers in /etc/pacman.d/testing but it never helps.
I tried to remove db, but too many other system packages use it.
What's the reason and what's the solution?

OK, looks like it was my problem with wget settings. I wonder why it happens only on testing. Probably all other repositories were downloaded via http.
    Sorry for false alarm.

Its a good work, but can you add default dictionary to this too? I mean just add a dictionaries folder inside installation folder and copy to en-US.dic and en-US.aff from mozilla-1.9.2/extensions/spellcheck/locales/en-US/hunspell folder?
    Thanks for your great work.

Yes, you should always keep wine packages somewhere OUTSIDE /var/cache/pacman/pkg.
I've started doing this. I can also upload the wine version you are interested in, but my upload speed is also very very very low.
Just trust Anarconda and wait for it

That might be your best bet.  I thought I had an even older version in my cache, but unfortunately I must have deleted it a few days ago.  Sorry.
Edit: Did you by chance upgrade your kernel, too?  A few times I've had trouble when upgrading the kernel.  Try reinstalling (perhaps uninstalling and reinstalling) the nvidia drivers, or try "modprobe nvidia" as root.  Hopefully one of them will do it for you.  But then again, if you're not getting errors from X and you just have a black screen, I doubt either of those will do it.
    Good luck.

Double-click on a pkg or mpkg file and elect the Installer.app in /Applications/Utilities.

    PROMPT-> Grant role1,role2 to TESTUSER
However, when I create a package and procedure (owned by Jack); I receive an ORA-01919 error saying that role2 does not exist.
There is no question the role exists and I am able to grant it to the TESTUSER on the command line as Jack.
Any ideas what is going on?

I can't post it as the database is on another system. However, I found my the fix. My Jack user had grant any role; therefore, I thought it should work both from command line and package.proc; however I granted role2 to Jack with admin privs and it works now both from the command line and the pkg.proc.

Open Source installers DO NOT mess with individual user shell initialization scripts.  Open Source project may be installed on single user systems, or multi-user systems so to update every possible user's shell initialization files becomes a nightmare.   For example which accounts should be updated, and which are daemon accounts that should be left along.  Which shell does the user of each account prefer to use?  And for some shells, there are multiple different shell initialzation files, so which one does the shell initialzation file select.  And if the user already has a PATH environment variable in a shell initializaton file that gets executed AFTER the file the installer choose (.bash_profile vs .bashrc), then all the installers work would be for nothing, and worse confuse the user. And the user already has the directory in PATH, but they are not logged in, does the installer parse all the other user's shell initialzation files to figure out if that user does not need an update PATH, or does it blindly add yet another export PATH to one of the shell initialization files?
Open Source installers worry about the getting the app built and installed.  It leaves the user's personal files alone, for very good reasons :-)
