Licensing question Project server

Hello guys !
I have a 16 blade center with 4 virtual machines dedicated to a SharePoint 2013 Enterprise farm and 2 virtual machine for an SQL 2012 active/passive cluster.
I installed Project Server 2013 on all sharepoint servers for redudancy.
How many Project Server 2013 licenses do i need ?
Thanks for the help.

Hello,
Typically you need a Project Server 2013 license for each server Project Server is installed on. You have to install Project Server on all the SharePoint servers in the farm.

  • Oracle licensing question- per server or instance?

We have 2 vendor/3rdparty applications that uses oracle database and purchased oracle licenses for both. They used to run on separate servers. Last year we consolidated these two oracle instances on a single server. Now we are looking to add a 3rd and 4th vendor/3rdparty application using oracle database. All require Oracle 9i Standard.
Is the oracle licence valid for the server and all instances running on it ?
    or
Is the oracle license valid per instance? In other words, are we required to purchase a 3rd and 4th license for the new application instances being added?

Oracle Database licensing is based on named user OR on number of processors. See http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/databaselicensing.pdf

  • Project Server Licensing

I am in the planning process for a project to upgrade Project Server 2003 to Project Server 2013. I understand that publishers/writers need a Project Pro license or Project Server CAL, and SharePoint Standard and Enterprise CALs, along with the requisite
Windows Server and SQL Server CALs.
My question is this. Does a user who will only be viewing and not writing to the server require a Project Pro CAL or Project Server 2010 CAL, or do they just need SharePoint Standard and Enterprise CALs along with Windows Server and SQL Server CALs?

    Hey Paul,
We are looking at a MS Project-based PRoject management solution for our organisation and I have some queries.
Suppose the server infrastructure comprises of Project Server 2013 Enterprise Ed, Sharepoint Enterprise Server and MS SQL Server running on a Windows Server, how does one calculate the licences in the following
    scenarios?
S1) User connects to PWA using a general standards compliant web browser from a PC running a non-windows OS.
S2) User connects to PWA using a general standards compliant web browser from a PC running a windows OS
S3) User connects to Project Server using Project Pro running off a PC on the LAN
S4) User connects to PWA using Project for Office 365
I suppose that all the users who will be using Project will have to be present on the Active Directory (on the Windows Server) before they can have an identity on PWA. Pl correct me if this is a wrong supposition.
Additionally, what are the server-side licences, the very minimum that will be required.
    Thank you.

  • Project Server 2010 Licensing

My company is considering installing Project Server 2010 and we have a question concerning CALs. According to a document we have, the following CALs are required:
    Project Server CAL
    SharePoint Standard CAL
    SharePoint Enterprise CAL
    SQL Server CAL
    Windows Server CAL
Our question is, is it necessary for every user in the company who needs to access PWA to have all 5 of these CALs? I know that if I have Project Pro 2010, I already have the Project Server CAL. Do I need the other 4?
If the answer is yes, it seems excessive to require so many CALs for a single application.
    Thx - Shane

Well, while the list of CALs is correct, epending upon your licensing model for Windows and SQL Server, your users might already have those CALs already. In addition, if your users have a SharePoint CAL anywhere else in the orifganiation, it still applies.
All in all, it might be useful fro you to talk to a Microsoft licensing representative, as the model depends upon each organization.
And finally, If you are just starting out with Project Server, I suggest you look at the latest version, especially Project Online +project Lite, which makes the whole licensing model super easy.

  • Is there a way in install a trial version of Project server on a Licensed edition server of sharepoint 2013?

Is there a way in install a trial version of Project server on a Licensed edition server of sharepoint 2013? Is there anyway around this or do I need to make a new box all trial versions to test this out?
    Thanks
    James T.F

    James,
Yes, it is possible , however I wont recommend to do it. Since, once Project trial period expires  you need to uninstall project server which can not be done without uninstalling SharePoint. Unless you are willing to rebuild the farm once your
    testing is completed

  • Project Server 2010 Resource Assigments - Need a license for every Resource?

I am trying to determine the requirements for Project Server 2010 licenses.
In Project Server 2010, I need to add resources to the pool, then assign a resource to a project task.  The task will be maintained/statused through a manager, not the resource.
Does that resource need to have a Project Server license even if the resource never accesses Project Server even through PWA?

    Hi JenKranich,
You need licences only for users that will access
Project Server data by any means :
MS Project Pro, Sharepoint sites and/or
    PWA.
But resources not associated with users are not "real person" accessing data but just informal entity, thus no need for licences for those resources.
It is important to note that if those resources can access the SharePoint site, since it contains Project Server data (risks, issues, deliverables), then they DO need a licence.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lumira Server for BI Platform and Team/Edge consumption & licensing question

Hi.  I have a few questions.
    Question 1:
From my reading, I've heard that Lumira Edge/Team server may not be a part of BI-Suite License.  I read a Lumira Server ASUG Webcast recap by Tammy Powlas here (SAP Lumira Server for Teams Roadmap ASUG Webcast) over the weekend and one of the Q&A questions struck me:
Q: Is this included with the BI Suite license from SAP?
A: Lumira Server for Teams (Edge Edition) is not covered under BI Suite License. However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
In a separate conversation late 2014, I thought I'd heard that Lumira Team/Edge server was supposed to be usable by BI Suite licensed customers, but it sounds like I'm mistaken?
    Question 2:
Next, the second part of the statement gave me hope:
However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
I then looked at the Lumira Deployment Options for Departments Part 1 – ASUG Webcast by Tammy Powlas to get some more information on Lumira Server for BI Platform.  This slide gave me some hope (emphasis mine in green):
But then I see some more information a little later:
Is this slide to imply that the version without HANA (or HANA XS) for BI Platform will only really just serve as a user rights management and Lumira document repository?  And that if I want to view a Lumira document, I must still open from the Lumira Desktop client?
It was suggested I start a new discussion thread to ask this licensing question about a product that's not out yet (but the slide says it's GA so I'm still confused) so here I am with my discussion thread!
Hopefully someone can make me less confused.  I'm hoping the answer is as a BI-Suite customer that we do not have to make a decision to either invest in new Edge/Team licenses or buy HANA XS hardware to establish a beachhead of Lumira usage in our organization.  We've been struggling with promoting Lumira and the sharing piece has been the sore spot.

You are right, it is confusing...

  • Project Server 2013 licensing

I was reviewing the Microsoft Project Server 2013 licensing terms and noticed the following:
PPM solutions require a Project Server 2013 license for each running
    instance of the software
    (source: http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/project/microsoft-project-licensing-project-for-multiple-users-online-and-on-premises-project-management-software-FX103802201.aspx)
    The PUR mentions something similar:
For each license, you may use one Running Instance of server software
    (source: http://www.microsoftvolumelicensing.com/ProductPage.aspx?pid=443)
You have to install Project Server on each SharePoint server in your farm. In the past it has always been said that you need one Project Server License for each installed copy (so for every SharePoint server in the farm).
Has anything changed for Project Server 2013?
Is a Project Server License only required for the SharePoint Server where you activate the Project Server Application Service?
Or does running equals installed when it comes to licensing?
Anyone can shed some light on this? Thank you!

I agree with Bernhard on this one....there's been no real change for on-prem licensing....you still need a Project Server license for each server in the farm.
That being said, there was a significant change (and confirm with your local MSFT rep), but in some cases, the online subscription pricing may be used for on-prem installations, i.e. I can pay by user by month instead of buying the CAL.  I don't think
this impacts the server licensing, but worth noting.
The "Running Instance" terminology is maybe meant to capture the VM scenario where I have one physical server running multiple VMs, each one running Project Server?

  • Project Server 2013 licenses in use

Is there any way to retrieve the exact number of PWA and Project Pro licenses in use for a Project Server 2013 instance?
In older versions you had the 'About Project Server' page and for 2010 there was a SQL script. But this script does not work for Project Server 2013.

Thank you Paul! That query works just fine.
I reworked it a bit to suit my needs: take into account DENY and the fact that a PWA CAL is included in the Project Pro license.
My query to list the licenses in use is below:
    SELECT
    PERM.Username,
    CASE WHEN PERM.LogonProDeny = 1 THEN 0 ELSE PERM.LogonProAllow END AS [ProLicense],
    CASE WHEN PERM.LogonPwaDeny = 1 THEN 0 ELSE
    CASE WHEN PERM.LogonProDeny = 0 AND PERM.LogonProAllow = 1 THEN 0 ELSE PERM.LogonPwaAllow
    END
    END AS [PwaCal]

    RES.RES_NAME as Username,
    MAX(LOGON_PRO.WSEC_ALLOW+0) AS LogonProAllow,

  • Project Server 2010 how many CAL licenses do I need?

    Hey Guys,
We have Project Server 2010 running for two years now.
We are preparing for the true-up yearly exercise with Microsoft to count the nbr of CAL licenses we need.
As Project Server admin I have been asked to provide an access log of the users accesing Project Server.
Is there a way to know how many users are accessing Project Server so we know how many CAL we need?
I alreayd read the project server 2010 licensing guide (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/8/8/F88B3241-3E27-4BDD-8A01-ABF2422FB31C/Project%202010%20Licensing%20-%20Licensing%20Guide.pdf)
but it does not help me in this case.
    Thanks in advance

From there you can filter out the Active vs. Inactive Resources, and get your counts"

  • Project Server (SharePoint) - Database Collation question.

    Hi,
I have been looking at the performance of our SharePoint database server and one of its uses is Project Server.
Our databases are set as follows
    Project Server Databases (Latin1_General_CI_AS)
    SharePoint Server Content Databases (Latin1_General_CI_AS_KS_WS)
    TempDB (Latin1_General_CI_AS)
It seems that the Project Server databases should be (SQL_Latin1General_CP1_CI_AS):
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff800813(v=office.14).aspx
    e.g.
    Database
    Collation
    Project Server Archive
    SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
    Project Server Draft
    SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
    Project Server Published
    SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
    Project Server Reporting
    SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
    SharePoint Server Content
    Latin1_General_CI_AS_KS_WS
I may be worrying unnecessarily but my understanding was that the tempdb should be the same collation as the user databases (where possible). With the SharePoint content and the Project Server databases on the same instance this is not possible.
    Should I...
    1. Not worry about it (the performance impact is negligable).
    2. Create seperate instances so that the TempDB can match the user databases (I am worried that the overhead of an extra instance will be more than the overhead of different collations).
    3. Implement Contained/Partially contained databases (new possible option)
    4. Something else?
Also how bad is it that the Project server databases are Latin1_General_CI_AS rather than SQL_Latin1General_CP1_CI_AS.
    Thanks in advance
    Shaun

    Hi Prasanna,
thank you for taking the time to respond.
From the link - I read this as Microsoft insisting that you use Latin1_General_CI_AS_KS_WS for the SharePoint content databases and recommending it for the system databases including TempDB?
Our TempDB is not the same collation as the SharePoint content databases but the same as the Project Server databases. Which brings me back to my original questions.
    From the Technet article:
The following TechNet Article talks about the SQL Server collation for the SharePoint databases
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288970.aspx#section1
“The SQL Server collation must be configured for case-insensitive. The SQL Server database collation must be configured for case-insensitive, accent-sensitive, Kana-sensitive, and width-sensitive. This is to
ensure file name uniqueness consistent with the Windows operating system.”
However, we do not support changing the default collation (Latin1_General_CI_AS_KS_WS) for SharePoint databases to any other collations (CI, AS, KS, WS).
We support any CI collation for the SQL instance (for master, tempdb databases). However we
recommend using Latin1_General_CI_AS_KS_WS as the instance default collation (master, tempdb databases).

  • Assign 2 of Windows Server 2012 Standard edition licensing question

I'm new at this and I have bought Windows 2012 Standard with 5 CALs back in January from Microsoft store on the Internet using as the host. There is Windows 2008 R2 installed as the virtual machine on the host. Few hours ago I have decided to buy another
license with 5 CALs to upgrade those even that I did need two license of Windows 2012 Standard anyway to support 4 physical processor as my server have quad core processor.
The question here that I need to ask is how do I assign 2 license of Windows Server 2012 Standard edition on the host to lift the limit and that up to 4 VMs will be allowed or does it automatically do that after upgrading to Windows 2012 Standard in
the virtual machine even that 5 CALs plus 5 CALs equal 10 CALs are done automatically?

    Hello,
    You have 2 questions here:
    1. How can I stack multiple OS licence in order to have more virtualization rights (more VMs) running on that host?
    2. How can I stack Windows CAL licence from OEM.
    Answers are:
    1. You only have to licence the original licence on the physical host. You can use the same license key for all 4 VMs or use 2 VM key from the first package and 2 VM keys from the second licence package you just bought.
There is nowhere to register those licence, except one by one inside the VM themselves.
You have to keep all licence document in case of control by Microsoft.
    2. Windows CAL allows a user (or a computer) to connect to an unlimited number of Windows Server within your company network. You have 10 CAL so you can have up to 10 users or computers in your company that will connect to your servers (even if you have 1.000
    servers)
There is nowhere to register those licence, except one by one inside the VM themselves.
You have to keep all licence document in case of control by Microsoft.
    Regards
PS: The only licence that require maintenance and central registration are Remote Desktop Licences.
MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2010 MCTS: Lync Server 2010, Configuring MCSE
That is what I thought as I was told before even seen licensing details except a direction of how to attach the second license and I had to make sure. Thank you

  • Licensing question for AD enterprise with new SQL Server

    Hi!
We have Server 2008 R2 STD where our AD is located and it has enough User CAL's. Additionally we have Terminal server with TS licenses.
Now we're purchasing a Server 2012 where we plan to install SQL Server 2012 STD where we will install our third party program and this program is going to be used through Terminal server.
Now the question is do I only need SQL CAL's or will I have to get both SQL CAL's AND User CAL's for the new server? I'm thinking AD servers User CAL's is enough for the whole enterprise, but I'm not 100% sure and need help with this!
    Thanks!

Licensing questions should be directed to trained Microsoft licensing specialists instead of a technical forum.
    www.microsoft.com/licensing.
That said, SQL CALs and operating system CALs are sold separately.  Talk with the vendor from whom you are purchasing your licenses.  They should be able to help you sort out the CAL questions.

  • Licensing question about OS X Server

I get a little confused about Apple's licensing of OS X Server.
If we buy a license for OS X Server, let's say it's a 10 client license, does that mean that I can create a bootable OS X image and install it onto 10 OS X clients without buying a license for each system individually, or does it mean that I have a license for one server that allows up to 10 clients to connect to it but each of the clients must have it's own, unique copy of OS X installed on it?
The reason I get confused is probably because of netboot images. To me, the presence of a netboot image that can be downloaded and used by a system on a network essentially says "Yes, you can generate an OS X image and distribute it to client systems" because clearly, I assume, every time someone starts a netboot client they cannot realistically download the entire OS. I have to assume that the client isn't created to be totally useless without a server present, after all, what if the server goes down? Does everyone just twiddle their thumbs waiting for it to come back up?
I'm not terribly familiar with any of this, although our (small) company has recently acquired a copy of OS X Tiger Server with a 10 client license. If we add more systems, do we need to get an OS X license for each of them OUTSIDE of the Server, or does the server license provide a provision for us to install a copy of OS X on each of them.
I hope I'm clear on this question, as "legal" documentation and its implications leave me very frequently dazed and confused.
    Thanks to all/anyone that responds.

...does it mean that I have a license for one server that allows up to 10 clients to connect to it but each of the clients must have it's own, unique copy of OS X installed on it?
The 10 client connection is for concurrent client connections over AFP. However, this should not be an issue if you are deploying Snow Leopard. Apple removed the 10 user product and only the unlimited server is available.
NetBoot can get a little fuzzy. But the assumption is that all of the systems that you are NetBooting came with an original client license, so centralizing the OS to the server and then sharing it out does not exceed your licensing. OS X Server is a different product than OS X. You are running OS X Server on a server device, one server hardware per one copy of OS X Server. Server then shares out the client.
No. But if you get new machines, they are coming with Snow. Snow and Tiger will not interoperate easily. For example, Tiger server can not server Snow netboot images. Plus Tiger is a bit long in the tooth so finding hardware to boot it might be more trouble than it is worth.
Let's assume you have 20 machines running Tiger and they originally came with Tiger. If you deploy the Tiger server, you are fine with everything except the concurrent client connection limitation of the 10 user license. However, if your clients are running newer versions of OS X and you need to upgrade the Server OS, then you may need to upgrade everything. For example, if your clients are Leopard but you buy Snow Server, then you need to upgrade your client licenses to Snow as well.
I hope I'm clear on this question, as "legal" documentation and its implications leave me very frequently dazed and confused.
    Thanks to all/anyone that responds.
    Hope this helps

  • Project Server 2013: Empty issues, questions and documents list in the PWA task details pane

    Project Server 2012, SharePoint 2013
I have a task with a few attached issues, risks and documents. And I see links to that in the PWA project plan (as icons).
But when resource open his PWA task pane attachment lists (issues, risks and documents) are empty.
Why? How to add documents in that lists?

    Hi,
I have a solution that might work for you, please follow steps below:
    1) Go to your project schedule, make a small modification to any task on schedule and 'Publish' the project.
    2) While your project is being published and saved, open another window
Server Settings -> Manage Queue Jobs
    3) Here you can view the progress of your current Project Publishing update, check if all goes smooth and your project is published successfully without indicating any errors of issues like :
Reporting transfer WSS links failed ( to view any error look at the last column of table on Manage Queue Job page)
    4) Also in your Project window see if the project is published and not saved as Draft.
Basically this will give you a fair idea of your project being published or not, if not that there is some problem with your Lists ( Risks, Issues and Documents).
    Regards
