Light Grey-Blue highlighting significance in SQL Worksheet - turn it off?

Hi
I've been working with SQLDeveloper for a while, and I'm now intrigued what the significance of the light context sensitive highlighting in the SQL worksheet window might be.
If I have one SQL statement in the window and I execute it with a ctrl-enter then the statement gets a blue-grey highlight.
If there are two statements and you ececute the second then the second one gets the goulish highlight.
I'm sure that this makes good sense to someone.
Is there any way to turn this quirkish thing off?
Thanks
Mike

Hi Tim
Thanks for the reply.
Apart from turning it off - I can't figure out why you would want it in the first place??
Usually someone spends time coding something they think will add value.
For me it's just clutter especially when I'm editing a long(ish) script of 100+lines - I just prefer a clean interface.
I have enough difficulty working out what I should be coding - let alone having my script switching colours on and off ;(
Anyone else?
Thanks
Mike

how to connect my apple tv

It's possible the TV doesn;t support the same rersolution as before.
Does the LED flicker when you press remote keys?
If so try holding menu and up arrow together for 6 seconds to cycle display resolutions.
If possible try a different HDMI cable/HDMI port.
If all fails you may need to do a restore as described here:

  • Formatting characters shown in SQL worksheet in version 2.1.1.64

    Hi,
    Using version 2.1.1.64
When I type SQL in the SQL worksheet is it showing formatting characters - for example all spaces display as a light grey dot and a carriage return character appears at the end of every line.
The formatting characters were not displayed initially when I started to use this version. Ì don't know how this setting got turned on but there does not appear to be a Preferences setting to turn it off. Any ideas?

Tools -> Preferences -> Code Editor -> Display -> Show Whitespace Characters
should take care of your problem.

my mac book pro mountion lion system  login screen background wont show and only shows a light white/blue as the background how can i fix it ? i tried everything from loginox to onyx and it still wont solve the problem. instead of the default dark grey startup screen  the background is white with a blue tint to it. the only time that the default background shows is when i log off and relog in

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
I think that your Mac detects your hard disk, but the problem is that your new hard disk doesn't contain any operating system, so your Mac doesn't find any bootable partition and you see a question mark.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, just install Mac OS X. If the hard disk isn't prepared to install Mac OS X, you will have to erase it using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

  • 4.1EA2 Text cursor goes missing in SQL Worksheet

In EA1 and EA2, my cursor seems to intermittently go missing in SQL Worksheet

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.25-b02, mixed mode)
(edit: Just tested in Windows - cursor does not go missing)
One such pattern that I noticed it seems to go missing on is when running a script.
Another pattern, if I hit enter a few times before the cursor has a chance to blink in between (not always), or hit the up or down arrow to go to the top or bottom of the page respectively, it also disappears.
I'm able to get the mouse back by dragging the window out of maximize position.
Couldn't reproduce in a procedure editor - assume will be same for package/function editor. So it's most prominent in SQL Worksheet.

I'm having this same issue that started happening with EA1 and persisted into EA2. It was not occurring prior to my upgrade. My input cursor disappears when scrolling up or down in code using the mouse wheel or scroll bar when the code extends beyond the display area. Moving the window does not help, but resizing the window appears to cause it to redraw and the cursor appears again. I can see what line I am on due to current line highlighting, and I can also select text or start typing to get an idea of where I am.

  • What is the gray hilight in SQL Worksheet?

I write various SQL Statements on the worksheet, hilight the portion I want to execute and either run it by hitting F5 ot F9.
After execution, SQL Developer hilight a portion of text in gray. What is the criteria to hilight something in gray? So far I don't see any logic, sometimes, the gray hilight disappears, sometime it hilight half of a SQL statement, sometimes the hilight is placed on a section of code which has nothing to do with the real section being executed.
I have trouble understanding the idea behind this gray hilight and I would like to turn it off. Can you please show me how to do this?
    Thanks in advance.

This is the 'Current SQL' highlight and it should cover the statement you just executed (with f9). With f5 it moves within the script as the execution point moves.
It always misses out the last line, but I've never seen it covering random parts of a statement.
I don't think you can get rid of it entirely, but you can make it more transparent by setting its background to white (or whatever your worksheet background is, and the foreground to transparent.
Go to Tools | Preferences | Code Editor | Syntax Colors and select Current Sql in the Available Styles box and experiment with the colours.

  • SQL Developer 31EA1 SQL Worksheet not allowing entry

When select to open a new SQL worksheet or having open a worksheet on connection, the system will bring up a new tab with the blue shading. It stops at that point. I can not enter anything and if I try and do other tasks, even exit Developer, I get a connection busy error message. If I try and click the try again button it just keeps reappearing. If I click the abort and try and do anything els I get the error again. I have to go to task manager and kill the task to get out of SQL developer. I am using Windows XP, JAVA 1.6.0_26 32 bit versions. Everything was working when I was using 3.0.

  • Buggy(?) sql worksheet parsing

When I have more statements in SQL worksheet I can run one of them by [F9] - run current one. But when I try it with these 2 statements it will fail with ORA-911 Invalid character.
When I select 1st or 2nd one with 'text editor selection', [F9] works fine.
    select product_code, decode(active_to, null, '-', 'Y') active, count(1)
    from product_instances
    where product_code like '%MySMS%'
    group by product_code, decode(active_to, null, '-', 'Y') order by 1;
    select count(1) from PRODUCT_INSTANCES;
    any thoughts?

The problem seems to be related to identifying the
start and finish of the statement.
A work around is to manually select the statement
that you want to run (without the ;) and then use F9
    - I tried this with the first query in the example
here and I got past the ORA-911 (got an ORA-942 as I
don't have the right tables:)).Yes, thats another way to run a statement, in fact its also used for running sub selects in the middle of larger statements.
Some things from the Raptor perspective that would
    help are:
    - highlighting the "current" statement it is
s attempting to be runWhy would we do this? Clarity perhaps, The caret is on the line of the statement.
    - jumping to the syntax error location (this has
s been discussed in a number of other threads,
including several workarounds for the fact that JDBC
does not support this natively)We have added a partial solution for scripts that will tell us where the error is and what it was, but we can only get the line number of the start of the statement. Only with anonymous blocks, can we figure out the relative line no and column number of the error.
It is just my impression (I am being lazy and not
going back and checking), but most cases where I have
had the problem or that have been given as examples
in the posts here seem to have either comments
(prefixed by --) or %s in strings.

I'm using a MacbookPro so can't right click to highlight (as was suggested in this forum for the same problem) and can't seem to highlight that area. What do I do?

When using the Clip Trimmer, you click DONE to indocate that you are finished.
The Trim To Selection is a great tool and I use it all the time, but you use it in the main project timeline, not the clip trimmer. Just select the frames you want so that the yellow border is around them. Then right-click and select Trim to Selection.

  • How get a light grey into the forground color?

When I click on foreground, even if black is selected, I click around that box, and I inevitable get blues and greens. I'm lost. How can I get an easy variety of greys to choose from to click on to make the forgound color a light grey to taste?
PS, I'm almost lost with eyedropper, I remember being able to click that on documents, even outside PS, but it's not working for me at all now in that respect. thanks.

thanks Noel. Here is screenshot. Notice go to right edge, just blue.
Eyedropper is ok now, but why did I think you could sample outside of an image? Does not move outside images.

    Hi
Thanks for the response, however even after loading the Default Accelorator preset & then restarting SQLDeveloper, I can't enter anything into the SQL worksheet. Is there anything further I can try (i.e. trashing the prefs etc)?
Thanks for any assistance on this

  • A few emails in my inbox won't go away even when I delete them. They turn light grey and if I click on them again, it can only undelete. Will not move to trash in any way.

How do I permanently delete some emails which just turn light grey instead of going away from my inbox?

Choose the mailbox on the left, on the menu bar click mailbox, then click rebuild. That will usually get rid of emails that turn gray and stay in your mailbox.

  • How to execute procedure in SQL Worksheet ?

Hi, anybody know, how I can execute procedure here?
I try EXEC sec_roles, EXEC security_admin.sec_roles, EXECUTE - there is a SQL statement error. When I use CALL - there is no such procedure (I have execute previleges).
Although in SQLPlus EXEC works, but there are problems with standard SQL commands (all of them returns "2" no matter what content is).
    Any ideas?
    Regards
    Krzysztof

exec procedure(parameters) is a sql plus (and a few others) shortcut for
    BEGIN
       procedure(parameters);
END;So try that then pressing/clicking whatever it is in sql worksheet that makes a statement run.
Note that if your procedure has parameters defined as OUT or IN OUT, you will need to supply a variable to accept the returned value(s).
