Light in right hand corner when putting MacBook Pro to sleep

Can someone explain the purpose of the light in the bottom right corner of the Macbook Pro (late 2009 model) that comes on when you put it to sleep? First it becomes a solid light and after a couple of minutes it starts to blink. Is there anything specific I should know about those indicators?

When you first put the computer to sleep, the light should be on. You should not physically move the computer until the on light begins to pulsate. Once the light begins to pulsate, your hard drive has stopped spinning. If you move the computer when the light is on, you could lose data, because the drive is still spinning even thought the computer is asleep.
This is described in a notice in the manual. See page 15.

  • External screen doesn't go into standby when putting MacBook Pro into sleep

I'm using a new MacBook Pro with an external monitor (DELL P2411H) through a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter.
When putting the Macbook into sleepmode, the external screen goes into standby but immediately wakes up, then goes back into standby and wakes up ... this cycle doesn't stop. The only option is to manually push the powerbutton on the display.
I'm having this issue too when using a MacBook Pro 13", so it's not a single issue.

I got similar Problem, my external monitor will go to standby mode and then switch on immediately, and the go to sleep , and the monitor will show no signal detect

  • Problems putting macbook pro to sleep and waking up

Having trouble putting my macbook pro (early 2011)  to sleep. Whether I close the lid, hit the sleep tab from the apple menu or just keep the computer idle long enough to allow it to fall asleep, the computer screen goes black and the green indicator light comes on, but never pulsates. When I try to "wake" it up, nothing happens. I have to manually turn off then restart the computer.

I do not know how to check disk fragmentation wihout 3rd party tools. I use http://www.prosofteng.com/products/drive_genius.php, however there are more programs to check disks and fix errors or defragment ones.
Having 15GB left I would be worried of possibility to start loosing files not talking about general computer performance.
if I were in this kind of situation, I would avoid installing any applications being that much limited in disk space. I hope that you have your data backed up. I would use external disk to move important data along with big files (not an applications) to that disk. As well, most probably there are many files that might live on external disks only and be accessed whenever you want by connecting an external storage. In another words, provide more free space on your disk for computer to breath easier. Then install 3rd party disk utility i.e. one I mentioned above and run disk health tests, fragmentation tests and defragment it.
I believe that this not only makes you Mac going to sleep faster but it will improve its general performance as well.
P.S here it seams there is a possibility to get demo version http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/drivegenius.html
it might be that demo still has a possibility to be 100% functional for limited time.

  • Putting Macbook Pro to Sleep

Recently, I have noticed that when I put my mac to sleep there is an extreme latency in terms of the time it takes for the computer's screen to go blank and for the actual unit to go into sleep mode. I do not seem to be able to account for the occurrence, and was wondering if anyone had suggestions as to why it may be taking so long. Hopefully, this is not too ambiguous, but I cannot pinpoint as to what may be causing it.
    Thanks!

  • I lose connection with network whenever put MacBook Pro to sleep or reboot. Lost network configuration. Have to use diagnostics to relocate and reconnect. What is the fix?

I lose connection with network (router: Airport Extreme, latest firmware) whenever MacBook Pro put to sleep. Have to use diagnostics to reconnect. Tells me network configurations have changed, then reconnects me to network. What is the fix?

Try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

    Download and install
Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Windows : Adobe Application Manager
Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Macintosh : Adobe Application Manager
    After the installation
Try to Open Adobe Application Manager / Creative Cloud App.
Log in that with Adobe ID and Password.
If it does not work first try couple of times more.
Let me know if this resolves the issue.

  • Hello - I used a Sony DVD to burn 350 songs. When I put the DVD into another computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. What's preventing songs from being ripped?

Hello - I used a Sony DVD to burn 350 songs from my iTunes library to share with a friend. When I put the DVD into my friend's computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. Anybody know what's preventing me from ripping what's on the DVD?

When I put the DVD into my friend's computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes.
The import command only works with audio CDs. So if you burned the files in mp3 format, try instead using the "File > Add file to library" or "File > Add folder to library" commands.

  • HT201335 I have a UK apple mac and im trying to use mirroring so when searching google, ebay, writting document it shows up on my tv but i dont have the option when i click on the rectangular box in lower right hand corner. ANy one have advice?

I have a UK apple mac and im trying to use mirroring so when searching google, ebay, writting document it shows up on my tv but i dont have the option of 'Mirroring' when i click on the rectangular box in lower right hand corner. Anyone have advice on how I can do this?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.
    Do you meet these requirements.

  • Just got a new macbook air I added 2 google email accounts to the mail program.  The mail downloaded thousands of emails and now on the top right hand corner I get bombarded by notification of these emails from 3-4 years ago and it is non stop.

When I added 2 gmail accounts to my new macbook air.  The email program download thousands of emails and now I am getting notifications non stop on the top right hand corner from years ago it is non stop notification for the emails from like 2007 really old emails.  I am not sure why it is notifying me of old emails I know it is new just downloaded in the program but it should only notify me of recent emails shouldn't it?

If your email client (Mail) it set to never delete emails from the server,  they stay there waiting. The server doesn't track what you've already downloaded, so a new setup of Mail just grabs whatever it finds on the server. You can change this in Settings, but for now, you have all your old emails to sort.

  • When I open an email, my computer won't go to the link listed, or when I am doing research the same thing, then I see a ALLOW in the upper right hand corner of the screen and I have to click on that. What happened and how do I fix this?

Somehow my settings have changed. When I open an email and there is a link, my computer won't allow it, also when I am doing a search, my computer won't allow certain links to open.
What I see is "ALLOW" in the upper right hand corner of the screen, and I have to click on that in order to continue my email or do a search. How did this suddenly happen and how do I change it back to being able to roam the Internet without having to click on ALLOW all the time?
Also, I set up Google as my home page, but it won't list Email or any other options. I have to type in Google in the Google box, then Email appears. How do I get the right Google set up as my home page so I can access Email without jumping through hoops.
Thanking you so much for your time and consideration.
    Sincerely,

  • Window Goes Off-Screen When Mouse arrow Is Moved To Upper Right Hand Corner

It seems like this happened recently. When the mouse is moved and pointed to the upper right hand corner of the screen everything displayed goes off-screen to the right and left sides. The edge of the window is shown on the right side and a shadow on the left side- when I click on those everything pops back on-screen. I have a bad habit of moving my mouse quickly and this has become annoying.
I thought it may have been a "Hot Corner" but I checked and this feature is not enabled(in Expose/Dashboard)
How do I disable this feature?
    Thank you in advance.
    Steve

    Hello Steve:
It definitely sounds like the hot corner "all windows" is enabled. There is a preference file that needs to be trashed, but I cannot figure out which one (no help to you).
Be sure that none of the hot corners are enabled and then restart.
You might also try resetting PRAM (although I do not think that will do anything).

  • Help! My outgoing mail has the image of pink lips in the upper right-hand corner.  I did not put it there; it is fun but not exactly professional!  How do I get rid of it?

Please help!  My outgoing mail messages arrive with an icon of pink lips in the upper right-hand corner.  I have no idea how it got there.  This is cute but not really professional. Does anyone know how I can get rid of it?  Thanks!

It's been almost three years since I bought and set up my most recent Mac but if I recall correctly .....
When you initially set up your Mac, you were offered the opportunity to snap a photo of yourself in order to associate your photo with your user account on the computer. If you declined the photo I think the Mac will pick or suggest a picture from the preinstalled selections in the accounts pane of the system preferences. You can change the picture but you cannot delete it totally. That picture is part of your ID for that user account on the Mac.
If you want to change it, Open System Preferences and click on accounts. Click on your account to change the picture. You will have to unlock the preference in the bottom left corner - and to do that - you need to enter your password. Click on the picture of the Eagle and then all of the preinstalled photo choices pop up in another window. Select another photo and then clcik the lock icon again when you are done.
