Lightroom 2 - Upgrade Computer OS from Windows XP to 7 - Licensing Issues?

I have a laptop running Win XP and Lightroom 2 -- I've saved the many sequential updates somewhwere -- that needs its OS upgraded to Win7. I had purchased Lightroom 2 retail and have the original installation CD with serial number on the back. So after I wipe the HD and insall a new OEM version of Win7 SP1, can I simply install Lighrtroom from the old CD using the serial number and apply the updates, or will I have licensing issues from the re-installation?
If there was an activation step, I'm sure I did it to get the updates. If so, do I have to de-activate before the OS upgrade? If so, how do I do that? -- JClarkW

Hi candy, glad that you found that Shockwave Flash Object, it works with the Flash files and is very important
The NPSWF files that you said are not there, those are for the Firefox browser or Chrome or some other browser. If you use Firefox and want the Flash Player for that, then close all of your browsers so you are only looking at your Desktop.
Click on this Flash Player Installer for Firefox and SAVE it to your Desktop. Then RUN it from your Desktop, and after it is finished Installing, Restart your computer.
Then Using Firefox go to the plug-ins and find a SWF vs 10.0.45.2 and make sure it is Enabled. This is just like the Shockwave Flash Object for Internet Explorer, but it is the one that works with Firefox.
Let me know if that is what you wanted to do. If you don't use Firefox, but Chrome or another browser, then this will work for that one also.
If you don't use another browser, then don't do any of this. I just thot maybe you did and that is why you were concerned that the NPSWF files were not there.

Upgrade E31 Thinkstation from Windows 8 pro to 8.1 Pro

Hello,
Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade the E31 from windows 8 to windows 8.1. I just got one with windows 8 pro preloaded and hate the metro functionality. I read 8.1 gets rid of that but I don't see the E31 on lenovos list of supported desktops to upgrade to windows 8.1 Has anyone tried this?
Also if not possible, would anyone reccomend downgrading back to windows 7 pro. I'm looking into this as an option but there is no COA sticker on my computer, it was a Lenovo Manufactured Refurb, so i don't know how to do this although I know a downgrade is supported.

My suggestion would be to maybe swing by a best buy or something like that and get some hands-on time with a system that has windows 8.1 on it before you dive into a decision. My experience with windows 8.1 (though admittedly rather limited) is that the metro screen is still very much alive in it. You might not get the look and feel of win7 that it appears you are looking for.
I think in order to get a win7 downgrade license from Lenovo, it would have had to have been purchased that way with the machine when you bought it. You should certainly be able to install a licensed version of win7 retail on it if you so choose.

ok, I followed this: iTunes > Preferences > 'Device' section > Device Backups and it was blank, except for the back up I did on my iPad today, but nothing pre-windows 7 unfortunately
On another note, incase its useful, I do have several partitioned drives but the windows 7 upgrade was done at a computer shop. The guy used an external hard drive to copy everything over, and then did the upgrade and put all the back ups onto my partitioned hard drive.
All my word docs, photos and other software/programs are still on the comp and am able to access them with no problem (after installing latest microsoft office of course)
Is it possoble my old iphone and ipad back ups are somewhere among the partitioned drive that is storing my back up from windows xp? and ps. I'm a girl :-)

I recently received a box unit of Lightroom 4 from US, is there a license issue if I install it in Singapore as I recide in Singapore. Are there any restrictions?

A LR licience allows install on 2 systems as long as the software is only used one at a time.
Adobe has NO restrictions on where the systems are upon which it's software is installed.

Upgrade Multiple servers from windows 2003 to 2008

How could i upgrade all my servers (1000 around) from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2 without loosing system settings, profiles and applications.

Since Windows Server 2008 R2 only supports 64-bit the first thing to check is that all of your 2003 boxes are running 64-bit Windows. If they are then an in-place upgrade is possible, but if they're running 32-bit Windows then there is no way to directly
upgrade them. Your only option with 32-bit Windows 2003 is to either upgrade to 2008 (which does support 32-bit), or migrate everything to a new server.
Other than that, the question then becomes what are those servers running. If they're running Microsoft services then it should be fairly straight forward, but if they're running 3rd party services then you need to check with the 3rd party company whether
their software (or more specifically the version of their software you currently have installed) supports 2008 R2.
For the Windows services there are some differences, but I believe the upgrade process handles the transition for you for the most part. Have a look at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff972408(v=ws.10).aspx which details the process, and goes into the changes for each of the main Windows Server roles, and those things
you need to be aware of. As mentioned in that article, when you start the upgrade process you're offered a link to a compatibility report which will tell you if there's anything on the server which will break or cause issues with the upgrade. View that report
and review what it tells you before you start the upgrade. You may find that some tools, addons etc need to be uninstalled or upgraded before you can start the actual upgrade, but if the report gives you the green light you should be fine to continue without
any issues.
Finally, from the wording of your question I'm guessing you're wondering about getting the servers upgraded at the same time? Personally I'm not aware of any way to do that, but even if one did exist I wouldn't do it. There's too much of a chance that something
will go wrong, probably in some small minor way, but if you've just tried to upgrade all the servers at the same time, when you get reports telling you that something is no longer working you'll have a much harder time working out what caused it than if you
know that only servers a, b and c have been upgraded today, so the issue is likely to be with one of those.

All I had to do was complain. I synced my iPhone to the Windows machine, checked the other account at iTunes prompting (where no apps had shown up previously), reconnected the iPad, and 140 apps downloaded including the App Store. I have no idea why.

Moving LR2 from Windows to Mac; drive formatting issue...

Over the past year I have gradually switched from Windows OS to Mac OS and Lightroom is one of the last to migrate.
I have a 22+K image library (both images and movies) with a deep directory structure accumulated over many years, currently on a Windows NTFS formated drive. I moved the LR catalog to the Mac without problems and it now has no problem "seeing" the images on the Windows drive, HOWEVR, since this is a NTFS formatted drive I can only read and not write to the drive and thus I need to move the library to either a FAT32 Windows drive or (better) to a native Mac OS drive.
The problem I am running into is that if I move/copy the images outside of LR, the software cannot "see" the images on the new Mac OS formatted drive. Moving the library from within LR does not work because when LR tries to erase the images from the Widows drive it returns an error and stops the process. Exporting the image catalog seems to export the images and not the movies that are scattered through the folders and thus creates a file managing headache. I have read extensively through tutorials, support pages and discussion forums and cannot find a discussion of my specific problem. Am I missing something? Any suggestions?

Thank you for both suggestions! I am not quite sure what to make of this... I had tried what Jao vdL suggested before and it didn't work. Upon trying to find the files on the Mac-formated drive I usually get the message:"Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo. You will not be able to make adjustments to the photo" At the time my understanding was that the problem arises from the different ways that both formats handle individual files.
Just in case, I tried the whole process again last night and got the same error message but then I left the computer running overnight and this morning everything seems to be fine. As far as I can tell the library and catalog are intact and LR is behaving normallly. Strange! Regardless what the reasons behind all this are, it worked so... thank you!

Windows 2008 R2 RDS Licensing Issue

I have Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 farm (with all of the application servers running Windows 2003) and I have just migrated from using a Windows 2003 server for the terminal services licensing to a Windows 2008 R2 RDS server for the licensing. We have
a number of thin-clients that connect to the Citrix farm and provide a kiosk for users. We have 85 per device licenses however we are only using 15 of those licenses (plans were made but never implemented to use the rest), so we have 70 available licenses.
The licenses are configured per device and as Windows Server 2003 licenses.
After the migration to 2008 R2, the thin-clients connected to the new licensing server without any trouble at all. As I monitored the licenses on the new server, each thin-client was given a temporary license first and then at the
next connection they got a permanent license. All of this I have been able to confirm through the event logs on the server.
However, what I get in the event logs of the new 2008 R2 licensing server an event with event ID 21 that says:
The Remote Desktop license server "ServerName" does not have any remaining permanent Remote Desktop Services client access licenses (RDS CALs) of the type "Windows Server 2003 - TS Per Device CAL". As a result, the Remote Desktop license server cannot issue
RDS CALs of the type "Windows Server 2003 - TS Per Device CAL" to the Remote Desktop Session Host server "vvv.xxx.yyy.zzz". To resolve this problem, verify that the Remote Desktop licensing mode configured on the RD Session Host server matches the type of
RDS CALs installed on the Remote Desktop license server. If required, purchase and install additional RDS CALs as needed for this Remote Desktop license server.
(Note I have removed the server name and IP address due to company policy.) I have confirmed that every server in my Citrix farm has its terminal services configuration set for "per device" licensing and I have also specified the name of the 2008
R2 server rather than allow the servers to automatically find the licensing server. I have confirmed that my 2008 R2 server is configured for "per device" licensing.
The IP addresses I have seen in the event log messages are the IP addresses of a Citrix server rather than one of the thin-clients, and so far every Citrix server we have has appeared in one of these event log messages. I have been able
to determine that this event does not occur when a thin-client is connecting up nor does this event occur when I remotely log into the server.
As I noted above we only have 15 thin-clients using the 85 licenses so we have 70 available licenses for the Citrix servers so why are we out of licenses? What is this message trying to tell me?

Hi Bent,
According the Event ID 21, I think you might have the license connection issues with RDS CALs. I suggest you analyze some relative services and
make sure your network without any misconfiguration.
Hopefully, there is an article describes how to troubleshoot this license issue on the terminal server.

By the way, the license of Windows Server 2003 does not support to assign CAL to allow user to access the Windows Server 2008. You should buy a
new Windows Server 2008 license to meet the requirement above if necessary.

Windows 2012 R2 RDS Licensing Issue

I setup RDS License Server role in our domain controller server and installed open license RDS User CAL. From the connection broker server, I setup RDS Deployment's RD Licensing to per user and added the domain controller from the license server
list. RD Licensing Diagnoser output is ok and able to detect the license server. All servers are windows 2012 R2.
Now the issue is, when using RD Web access and launching the application, the license manager is still showing 0 issued license. Tried opening several sessions, more than the number of license seats available and still RDS still works fine. Wondering
whether license server is functioning properly. Let me know if someone experienced the same thing.

Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Have you find any specific error\event id for this case?
As you have Per User CAL and to see your Per User RDS CAL usage you need to create a report, save it to a .csv file, and then view the csv file in Notepad/Excel. We can do this in RD Licensing Manager by right-clicking on the server name, choosing Create
Report - Per User CAL Usage, and then after you have the report right-click on it and choose to save it as csv.

Upgraded from Elements 9 to 12 since upgrading from Windows 7 to 8.1 - Issues with my old psd's.

Hi - in regards to moving up to the newer version of Elements, I find that all the psd files I was in the middle of working with (all of them multi-layered) don't seem to be associated with photoshop anymore. When I double-click them, windows asks me what app I'd like to open them with. If I open photoshop I can open the psd files from there, however.
I made the change from Elements 9 to 12 because after installing Windows 8.1 the older Elements got weird and "buggy." I actually would've preferred to keep 9 (so if anyone's aware of "fixes" or "upgrades" for 9 that help it to work better with Windows 8.1, please let me know)!
Also, I see that the old layers panel, where I can see all my different layers and move them around to front or back, isn't there. I did see that it's possible to select "Layers" from the menu, but it's greyed out.
I'm wondering if I somehow "lost" something switching over, and I wonder if there's something I can do to get my psd's to open in Elements more-or-less like they used to.
I should say that I jumped from Elements 9 up to 11, so I do realize there have of course been many many changes in the interim (I'd previously made the jump from 5 up to 9) and it'll take time for me to relearn, but this particular issue seems like it might be more of a glitch than me not knowing the new version yet.
I should also mention that the psd files don't have an Elements icon anymore - just a white square.

If Layers is greyed out it possibly means that you are in Quick Mode. Select 'Expert' and all the options should become available.
Try permanently associating psd files with C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 12\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe and see if that fixes the issue. Instructions here - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/choose-programs-windows-uses-default.

How to upgrade to Vista from Windows XP Pro on system preloaded with Vista Business?

I have a new T61p preloaded with "Genuine Windows Vista Business downgrade to Windows XP Professional" and had it shipped with the Windows XP Pro downgrade.
Where can I can find the procedure to "upgrade" back to Vista if/when I decide to do so? I would also like to know the pro's and con's of doing so. For example: will I need to reload my applications, etc?

Firstly you should create recovery discs for Vista and backup your files before downgrading to XP. When you are ready to revert back to Vista you can use these to install it.
The discs will return your T61p to it's factory state. Beforehand you will need to backup files and yes you will have to reload all your applications.

Can I upgrade My elements from windows to a mac version

I've a Photoshop Elements 7. But recently I've bought a MacBook. Is it possible to buy an upgrade so I can use my elements for windows on my mac?

The iPhone 3G can not be upgraded beyond iOS 4.2.1. If WhatsApp requires a higher version of the iOS, you can not download it.
