Lightroom 3.x won't start for one user on my computer.  Works fine for all others.  Help?

I'm running Vista and LR 3.2.  I have multiple users accounts on the same computer (my family members).  Everyone is able to use LR except one user.  Whenever he trys to launch LR, he gets an error message that says:
"Lightroom - Opening Catalog: IMG_0154.JPG.lrcat"
Directly under that is the MS Windows dialog box that says "LR 64-bit has stopped working" and to look for an online solution and close the program.
I really don't want to reinstall LR again unless I can do so without losing the catalogs from all the other users.  It would be best if we didn't lose the catalog from the user that can't start LR, too.  It's lotsa work to redo...  Help on what to do?

Don't have a clue what's happening, but workaround
should eb possible bu creating a ne catalog then importing original into
new. Steps required:
1. User opens their accoun on PC
2. Hold down Alt key when launching Lightroom. A dialog should open that will allow you to switch catlogs or create a new one
3. Choose Create New Catlog. Give it a name (e..g the Users name). and make sure that it is located within the Users account area on hard disk (same location as original is probably best).
4. When Lr opens go to File menu and choose Import from Catalog
5. A dialog will open. Locate the old catlog (i.e. the lrcat file) and select.
6. Hit Choose button
7. Lightroom will check integretity and contents of old catalog. A dialog will open. Make sure all folders are checked.
8. Hit Import button.
9. Close Lr when catlog import is complete.
10 Reopen Lightroom. The new catalog should open by default

  • InDesign C3 won't start as one user

    Hi there,
    I have just brought the new MacBook Pro 15 inch 2 GHz Intel Core i7.
    I did the normal migration from my old MacBook Pro 15 inch. Both old an new have are running on OS 10.6.7.
    When I wanted to start, on the new Mac, InDesign C3 it gets blocked and doesn't start. I have to forse quit it. All other Adobe applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc work perfectly.
    The funny thing is that I have, as a test, created a new user and when I switch to that one it starts! I have tried to compare the preferences settings and don't see any differences. It also seems strange to me that since it was migrated everything should be the same on the old, new and the new test user. Why wouldn't it?!!
    Please help since I really need InDesign to work and cannot switch user every time!
    Does anyone know of any solution?

    Thanks for your answers. So the first steps that you suggested didn't work. I deleted all the Defaults and Saved data.
    By normal migration I mean that when I first started the new MacBook Pro I migrated all data and applications with the migration assistance from apple. Everything worked perfectly there is only the one problem with InDesign.
    Since both macs (the old and the new) are running on OS 10.6.7 there shouldn't have been any conflict. 
    The really strange thing is that InDesign IS running on this machine, just not on the user account that I want to use, but on the user account that I set up as a test.

  • In DCOMCnfg "Run application on this computer" is grayed out for my application on two Windows 7 machines, but it works fine on all other machines

    We have a COM application that is installed on hundreds of machines around the country.  We have instructions included in our install doc of how to set up DCOMCnfg.  On one machine in the field and one machine in our lab (both happen to be Windows 7 machines) the checkbox "Run application on this computer" on the location tab in DCOMCnfg is grayed out and therefore we cannot access our engine remotely.
    I turned off UAC before installing  (we found that the install works much better than way)  and it is actually still off.  I do not get any DCOM errors in the Windows Event logs when I try to access via DCOM, I just get the standard -2147023174 Server Error.  I have added CallFailureLoggingLevel to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OLE and set it to 1 to enable logging, but still no errors in the event logs.
    I pulled a DCOMTest utility off of the Microsoft site.  Initially it failed, but there were entries in the event logs indicating that it did not have the permissions it needed.  I opened up those permissions and now that test utility works fine.  So, DCOM is functioning between the two computers.
    This application is used with DCOM by hundreds of people, so I know the application should be working properly.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled to verify that everything is registered properly.  I have tried turning off the firewall and the anti-virus.  I am logged in as an administrator
    I am at a loss.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
    This issue can occur if the current user profile does not have enough permission or related system file is corrupted. Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
    1. Assure the current user account has administrator permission. If not, please add it to Administrators Group and then test the issue again.
    2. Restart the machine in Safe Mode and logon to the machine with the account: administrator. Then, please check whether the option is grayed out.
    3. If the option is still grayed out, please try this step.
    a. Open C:\Windows\System32 folder and change the ownership of the ComUID.dll file from "trusted installer" to administrators group.
    b. Rename that file as ComUID.dll.org
    c. Copy the attached ComUID.dl_ file from the Windows 7 installation disk to C:\Windows\System32 folder and rename it to ComUID.dll

  • Uploading files containing swedish letter åäö gets ecoding corrupted in firefox for mac. Same features works fine in all other browsers. Is this a bug in firefox for mac?

    When uploading a file containing swedish letter å, ä or ö the file name is gets corupted in the filename. There are som encoding issues just for the mac version, since the file name is uploaded correctly in all other browsers on mac and all browsers in windows.

    What form does this corruption take? According to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695995 the difference is decomposed vs precomposed Unicode forms, but that should not actually affect any Unicode-complian software. If there's a site that shows a problem here, can you point me to it?

  • Swalife websight doesn't operate correctly on one of our computers and works fine on the other

    We have two Dell laptops. For explanation of this problem, I will refer to them as #1 and #2. I have used Firefox on #1 for 3 years now. Our other computer, #2 has been using IE, but because of IE issues, we decided to switch it to FF also. It is necessary for us to use swalife.com website for work. When I log in to swa life on #1 it works fine as it always has. We downloaded FF 18.0 on #2 and the swalife site only has partial functionality. We can log in to the site on #2 and it recognizes the names and passwords, but will not open the default opening page. The default page has 4 tabs, news, need to know, swa pics, and profiles. The only tab out of the three that works correctly is the need to know tab. The other three have a window that opens that displays the following message:
    This Connection is Untrusted
    You have asked Firefox to connect
    securely to blog.swalife.com, but we can't confirm that your
    connection is secure.
    Normally, when you try to connect securely,
    sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are
    going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.
    What Should I Do?
    If you usually connect to
    this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is
    trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.
    blog.swalife.com uses an invalid security certificate.
    The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided.

    Yesterday I contacted Norton security. They took control of #2 and said that it wasn't a security problem and that they couldn't fix it. He suggested using Chrome, since swalife.com operated fine with chrome on #2. That is not the solution I wanted. We also contacted Tech Support at swalife and they had no idea what the problem could be. My question to you is...if swalife.com operates correctly on#1 with FF18.0, why can't #2 operate on FF18.0? Both computers are in the same room, using the same router, and are on the same Insight cable connection. I have checked and compared security settings on both computers and both appear to be identical. Please note, that in the Untrusted window it says that "You have asked FF to connect securely to blog.swalife.com but we can't confirm that your connection is secure." We are not asking to connect to blog.swalife. We never use it. The site sends us to this window directly from the log on page.

    The blog.swalife.com server doesn't send a required intermediate certificate.
    You can inspect the certificate chain via a site like this:
    *http://www.networking4all.com/en/support/tools/site+check/
    You can Copy and Paste the certificate text of the intermediate certificate (COMODO High-Assurance Secure Server CA) to a .cer text file and import the certificate in the Certificate Manager or use Firefox > New Tab > Open File.
    DO NOT set any trust bits, those are only required for root certificates and should never be set for intermediate certificates.

  • "Edit in" Ps '14 won't launch for one Lr Catalog; the rest work fine

    I've had multiple bugs and issues since the Ps CC 2014 "update." I've already uninstalled and reinstalled several times to try and fix other issues among other solutions. The last update helped but one issue I continue to have is a recent catalog I created will not open photo's in CC '14. I also already uninstalled and reinstalled 5.5. I had hoped the 5.6 update would fix it, but no go. I also tried the "hotfix" of downloading the scripts .zip file and doing it manually, but still nothing. My external editor is set to CC '14 as the default.
    Can anyone clue me in on something I may be missing or haven't tried?

    I already checked the external editor options as mentioned. What other settings and menus should I look at? I've tried to go through and nothing it standing out to me as the obvious issue. I created the catalog just like I created all my other catalogs as well, no special settings.

    For myself firefox works well. With my wife as user firefox works very slow, keeps on coming withe the firstuse page and roundtour and does not store changed settings. I would like her to be able to work just as fina as I with firefox.

  • Firefox not loading graphics and pictues for one user

    I am running 10.2.8 with Firefox 1.5.0.11 and one of the user accounts on my mac is not loading web pages properly. The IE for mac on that same account is working fine. All other accounts on the machine have firefox and work fine.
    It must be a preference for that user account but trashing the firefox plist for that account doesn't help.
    Can anyone help?

    Thank you for your help.  Do you know how to clear the user setting to fix this problem as stated in the link?  I do not want to create a new user to fix this because it will take awhile to re-create the users custom menus, and it appears the the person in the other post continued to have the same problem after a couple of months after repeatedly creating new users.
    We have used SAP Business One for 5 years without having this problem, and it just recently started happening, but only for the one user.

    Using MM01 Only we can upload Plant Details.
    If you want to extend to other plant also, Use MM01 and select Plant view and give new plant details.
    If you want to copy from one plant to another plant after selecting Plant view , next screen you can select From Plant and To Plant Details.

  • After working fine for over a year, 160 quits working and goes into recover

    So, I've had my 160gb iPod for awhile, and it has basically worked fine for a while.
    Occasionally, it skips, but I just said whatever, and let it be.
    Anyway, today I listened to it frequently, and it started to take about 15 seconds to actually start a song that I picked. So eventually, I became tired of it.
    I went to play one song, and it skipped it and the other tracks after it.
    I had this problem before, but after converting them to .m4a they worked fine.
    However, these songs were already .m4a, so there wasn't too much I could really do.
    So, I decided to restart the iPod with the standard Hold on off, select-center button at at the same time thing.
    And then I tried to turn it back on, and when I did, it informed me that I needed to restore the iPod.
    It showed me a snazzy picture of the USB cable, and explained it to me in a few in a few other languages.
    So, I plugged it into the computer to try and get around it, and it informed me that the iPod was in recovery mode?
    I've never heard of this, and I ultimately have no idea what to do. I don't want to have to restore, but I guess I'm going to. I'd really like to know why it freaked out on me though.

    That moves only the iTunes media, not the iTunes library (which is really kinda nebulous).
    iTunes library = iTunes folder and all the media, wherever it is located.
    The /Music/iTunes/ folder contains the iTunes library.itl file, which keeps track of everything in iTunes.
    I do however still have the original MAIN startup drive still in the computer, it's just not the startup.
    This is good you still have it.
    Try this...
    Hold Option and launch iTunes.
    Select Choose library... and select the /iTunes/ folder on the original drive. It should be in /Users/your_user_name/Music/.
    Don't mess with anything. We can get it cleared up.
    Does everything work okay?

    When we returned from a weekend trip, both emails were working.  The obvious answer [to me anyway] is that the problem was with Roadrunner, not our minimac. The chances of finding out what the problem was with Roadrunner are slim and none.
