Lightroom 5.6 lost several days of editing and organizing without apparent reason..

All of a sudden, exclamation marks appeared on a great number of thumbnails of a batch of photo's that I have been working on for a couple of weeks. I can see that the reason for this, is that LR thinks they're in a different location: it forgot that I already created subfolders within the folder I'm working in. For the record: I did create these folders in LR. I never make changes to my folders and pictures without LR. (The photo's are not gone, they are still on an external HDD, in folders and subfolders as I have created them in LR.)
Worst part is, obviously, that once LR retrieves these photo's, all editing is gone. It simply 'forgot' a week of editing and organizing.
I use a Macbook Pro, Time Machine and I always have LR make back-ups when it asks me once a week. What happened? Could this be the corruption of the most recent catalog? Is there any way to retrieve this work?
I do hope that someone out there has been through the same ordeal AND was then able to save all the hard work anyway...

Like Ssprengel I'm not sure exactly how Time Machine works as I'm not a Mac user either but this does more and more sound like you've opened an older Catalog to me.
If it's not down to opening a Backup one then it does sound possibly like a Dropbox synch issue. I stopped putting anything other than temporary (and small) LR Catalogs in the Dropbox folder due to this very problem. Sometimes it just doesn't synch and comes up with an older file, though in my experience unless the file wasn't saved at all it does re-appear, usually with the name with a suffix that says something like "Conflicted copy". Are you actually using the Catalog on more than one computer during the time that this has occurred? If not then the Dropbox synch problem seems less likely to me (but not impossible).
Do you have a backup from the day you did the work to compare the one with the missing edits against?

Editing and organizing photos outside of iphoto

Apple Tech Support tells me that iphoto only works for photos imported via digital camera hookup. I have many photos on my hard drive that were input via CD or email .jpg files. I understand I cannot edit these photos using any software that comes with the Mac, and I have to organize and store them outside of iphoto. Is there any Apple-compatible software other than Adobe Photoshop that I might buy to have more flexibility in editing and organizing all my photos? I am currently using a Mac Mini with the Panther 10.3 OS.

The first part of this statement might be accurate if your mini did not come with GraphicConverter among the bundled applications, but whoever left you with the impression that iPhoto won't accept anything but camera-generated images is misinformed. Launch iPhoto and select iPhoto Help from the Help menu. Enter the phrase "importing photos" in the search window, and have a look.

Lost two days of editing work...

Hello. My computer got stuck. After rebooting, Final Cut X opened and showed me a timeline that had lost two days of my work!!! Any chance or recup the work? Any sort of autosave vault somewhere? Thanks for your help.

Thank you very much Russ. I did it already, but unfortunately, I don't know why, this backup is from yesterday at 19:20h, so all the work afterwards is lost... I don't know how the app does do any back up after that time. This means I have to start over with another application, this was a professional job and I can see Final Cut X is not reliable at this point.

I keep losing notes once I've added them. I don't know how to confirm where they are being stored. I'm wondering if the storage could be full. Also tried to sync with my yahoo account thinking that might help. But not sure how I get existing notes to sync with the account....they didn't show up once I turned that feature on.

Ok. I disabled hardware acceleration. The only extension is the McAfee Scriptscan for Firefox 15.1.0, which was already disabled. I then disabled all plugins (Acrobat, Google Update, Intel Identity Protection (2x), Java Deployment Toolkit, Java Platform, MS Office 2013, Quicktime, Shockwave, Silverlight), which were all up to date.
Normal or safe mode still has same result. No startup, no option button and no customize.

Editing and Organizing in IPhoto

When i make several changes to a photo, I get the message saving changes, That is ok, But when i download the photos unto a disc to get
printed, Not only do i get the photos that i edited, I also get the old photos that was changed as well, So instead of having about 100 photos on my album i end up with about 400 on the disc. Can someone tell me what to do to avoid this, its driving me mad. ( Kevin )

Workflow for editing and organizing video with PSE7 and PRE7

I'm quite new to using PSE to organize my videos, and would appreciate suggestions on tutorials or guides creating a nice workflow to keep the growing number of clips manageable.
What I've done is to import my videos into a separate catalog, and I kind of hoped that I could make version sets like with still photos. I can't seem to find that option. Is it possible?
Alternatively, I'd like to just replace the original clip with an edited version, but again I haven't found an easy way to do it.
Any suggestions on how to start are welcome, also if they take a different approach from what I mention above.

Go to Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences trash these two files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart.(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

Edit and save without reencoding?

I have a bunch of lectures in mp4 format which I need to add to add identical intro/outro sections to. I do that in QTPro, and save - nice and quick and no reencoding. Unfortunately it saves it as a .mov instead of .mp4, and the only way I've found of getting the mp4 back mp4 is to export and have to reencode the entire thing!
It seems like such a waste when I'm only adding a couple of seconds footage. The intro, outro and lecture are all encoded indentically with H.264.
Is there a way to combine multiple .mp4 clips in QTPro and save the resulting file as an mp4 without having to reencode the whole thing again?

The .mov file extension is just a "wrapper" for the codecs found in the file.
QuickTime Player Pro will always "Save As" in a .mov container.
Nothing to worry about. The file is the same even if the file extension is different.

Xbox One Day One Edition Issue

When I went into my Best Buy (Stoe 1767 Blakeney NC) I preordered the Day One Edition to pick up at from an online order placed on June 10 when the preorder was placed I was told that there was an issue with the shipment and they were short shipped Day One Editions and the only version I could pick up would be a standard edition of the Xbox One. I was not happy but was offered a free game for my troubles and wanting a system more than caring about getting a special edition.
Next, I was told the preorder would have to be cancelled because of the differing SKUs and would be rung back up. I was hesitant but was given no options and so agreed. After ringing the system up and using the card I had initially used the card, a My Best Buy Mastercard, was declined due to the authorization from the Day One Edition still being on the system. After an hour with the credit department, the games department, and the card company I was told that as I had ordered online there was no way to remove the authorization and that I would have to wait up to 7 days for the money to be released so I could buy the system I was not guarenteed by my preorder.
Now, while I was in the store doing this I saw several other people come into the store and pick up their systems they had ordered, all of which were Day One editions. Many of these customers had the systems brought to them without having to ask, meaning they were known by the staff of the store. I also saw close to a dozen Day One editions waiting to be picked up by preorder guests.
I have been sour all afternoon, as I went home with no new system, something I ordered and was guaranteed over five months ago and have had no issues with my preorder for said system. The card was authorised for the purchase of the system I ordered when I walked into the store without an email saying there was an issue, but I was willing to accept that maybe something had happened and someone had to take the hit. Until my roommate arrived at home.
He told me, and showed me with photographic evidence, that a friend of his walked into that store at midnight last night, without a preorder, and picked up a Day One edition of the Xbox One. Not only this, but he said everyone who went into the store for the midnight launch were given Day One editions. So my guaranteed preorder which was already authorized was given lower priority over anyone who walked into the store to buy a system. Especially since this person only bought a system so that he could resell it.
So thank you, Best Buy. Thank you for showing me the kind of company you are and how you please your customers. I sit here at home with no Xbox while this guy places what might have been my preorder on eBay to turn a quick profit.

I am truly sorry that instead of having an awesome midnight release like many of our customers did for the Xbox One launch, yours was so frustrating. It could have and should have gone so much better for you.
From what I have heard, there was some confusion over the Day One versions versus the standard editions of many of these games, which meant that the Day One versions were not held for pre-orders. I apologize if this is what happened in the store you visited.
Unfortunately, the Xbox 360 to Xbox One trade-in and upgrade promotion was going to be a little bit complicated, which is why we asked the stores to make sure that they were up on the process before the launch of the Xbox One. Again, I apologize that this experience was subpar as well.

Both Sunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon 2 look like great games and are currently available for pre-order. I see it doesn’t indicate it in the description yet, but the versions we currently have listed are the Day One Editions, however it is just the Xbox One version for Forza Horizon 2. We’re in the process of updating them to call out that they are the Day One Editions and should hopefully have that completed soon.

Is there a way to edit in Imovie without the format being DV?

So I have to give a small project to someone just to decide what parts they want in and out. I was going to use Imovie because it is easy for them to use. Problem is I don't want the file size to be too big. I don't care about quality, this is just for them to see what parts of an interview to keep. I would like to be able to import mp4's or some other compressed format and have Imovie keep it in this format and not convert it to DV. It's a difference of 2MB vs 75MB. I tried when I opened a new project to change the video format but it doesn't seem to work. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have 23 clips from different interviews. I want to send a Imovie file to this person so that he can put them in the order he wants the clips to go in, move them around, delete them and so on. I am just using this as a reference for the file. I am working in final cut and I am going to just use what he does in the Imovie file as a guideline of what I will be editing. In final cut you can change what the timeline video format is (jpeg, mp4, etc) so you can share edits and files without sending the full uncompressed video files. This is kinda what I want to do.

I have been trying to get help from Adobe for 3 days. I have sent a message through "Get Support", 2 days ago, but no one has contacted me. I have tried by phone, but no one will help me.
