Lightroom CC isn't including color labels when images are imported

I've tried this several times, but it doesn't work. Lightroom CC will import metadata and even star ratings, but it won't import the color label data assigned to the images from within Bridge. How can I get that information to be imported?
In other words, working in Bridge CC I assigned star ratings and color labels to a folder full of JPG files. When I import those files into Lightroom CC, the images, metadata and the star ratings are imported, but no color label data was imported. None of the images have color labels when viewed in LR. They still retain the color labels when I view the files in Bridge CC, but they don't appear in LR.

I just struggled with this for an hour. Any changes made to labels inside Lightroom 5 didn't show up in Bridge CC after reading metadata from file, and imports into LR5 did not properly show Bridge CC's label colors. Instead, only a tiny white rectangle at the bottom right of each labeled thumbnail showed in LR5.
Finally figured it out. In the Lightroom 5 file menu up top, go to:
Metadata --> Color Label Set --> Bridge Default (select this option)
'Lightroom Default' was previously selected in mine, as I suspect all Lightroom 5 installs are initially.
Make sure that the names beside each color are identical in both Bridge & LR, or you will still have syncing problems.
This should fix your problem!

  • Color changes when images are imported

I read the answer provided earlier by Ian but the reply left one aspect unanswered. Is there any way to turn off that feature and have LR use the info provided by the camera. I generally MUCH prefer what I see before LR works it over.

Geoff, Leejay, you miss the point.
LR has big problems converting pictures that have the certain characteristics.
In this case (and only this that I have noticed) it is when shot with strong red/and or warmer color temperatures.
It happens with the Eos-1 family and Eos-5.
It happens (for me) when shot with the said halogen/tungsten (3600k) lights.
It happens when you try to maintain the the warm tone.
It happens when you shoot raw.
The picture quality is "fine" if you colorcorrect the picture to neutral, but the point is, I dont want to do that.
Phase one and DPP programs does not have problems with such lighting, they both render the tones just right.
The problem with LR is that I can not acchieve the same results with the inboard engine!
No matter what tweaking and tinkering, the image just degrades and falls apart.
Same if you shoot with stronger colored lights, especially in the red spectrum.
The reason why this IS an issue for me (and 2 other studios that I know well) is that tungsten lights (arris) are used a LOT in fashion photography. The tones achieved with the DPP and PhaseOne are extremely close to what Kodak´s 400X used produce back in the film time, that beloved film..
Now the photographers and ADs want to reproduce the same tones, and with LR it´s seems to be impossible.
Now we have to port a another program in the workflow just to produce the desired results.
    Wich is PITA.
So,in my view, with all respect Geoff and Leejay, stop being such a bloody apologists.
The problem lies,as I see it, in the LR engine, wich could need some tweaking in that area.
Otherwise, and with other lights (be it HMI,Kinoflos, flashes) that program is extremely good.
Or do you suggest that the program is perfect?

  • Settings added when when images are imported

When I import images into Lightroom3 the images have already been tweaked.  How do I turn off the setting as the images are imported?  Second, when I attempt to send images to Photoshop for editing Lightroom makes a copy, how can I stop this fom happening?

Two things to avoid that LR applies "tweaking" on import.
    1) Make sure that the <Apply Auto-tone adjustments> box is unchecked. You find it under <Preferences> in the <Presets tab>.
    2) In the Import Dialog on the right hand side, in the panel <Apply During Import>, make sure that <Develop Settings> shows <None>.
There is no way to avoid making a copy when you open a RAW-file in PS. PS can not save a file as a true RAW-file; there is a Photoshop-RAW but that is not a true RAW-file like the one that your camera creates.Since PS can save your edits only in a different format than true RAW, by necessity a copy has to be made.
If you have JPG's in LR (or TIFFs or PSD's) and want to edit them in PS, you can choose <Open Original> and then no copy is made. But when you open these as <Edit a Copy with LR Adjustments> then again a copy is made.

  • Keeping Photoshop Raw Image Adjustments When Images Are Imported

I've got a bunch of raw images that have been adjusted in Photoshop. When these raw images are imported into Aperture, all the data stored in the .xmp files are stripped out, meaning the raw files are imported without any adjustments. Is there a way to import raw images so they retain the adjustments that have been made in Photoshop? I hope so. The idea of importing all my raw files into Aperture and having to readjust every single image is unthinkable.

With all due respect, I do "want" desperately to be able to use Aperture as a RAW converter-good workflow.
Sure... different meanings of "want". I "want" Aperture to be usable for that, but in its present state, you don't "want" to use it, because it's not very good at it. I tried a number of different pictures; it ranges from "okay" to "astoundingly bad", depending on the subject matter. In no case does it approach Adobe Camera Raw in quality; but it is not hideous in all cases.
Take a bunch of your own pictures and burn them to a CD, both RAW files and edited versions. Bring the CD to an Apple Store, sit down, and have a go at Aperture. In my case, it was the final thing that saved me the money of buying the software.
As a "better iPhoto" I think it's a winner. But it is, by no stretch of the imagination, a "professional" photography application. If it were a $50 replacement for iPhoto I'd probably have already bought it. It could be useful from an organization standpoint -- except for the fact that it can't read many of my Photoshop PSD files at all since they are in LAB color mode.

  • Why does the Date Created metadata change when images are exported? How do I stop it from changing?

why does the Date Created metadata change when images are exported?  How do I stop it from changing? I must have a prefernce set up wrong.

I don't know what OS you are using, or what application you are using to view the data about your exported files, but on Windows and using Windows Explorer the "Date Created" field relates only to the date that the exported file was created, i.e. if viewed immediately after export it will show the date created as being the same date. In order to view "Capture Date" in something like Explorer, you first have to ensure you have included the Metadata as Conrad outlined above, then you have to adjust the display properties of Explorer to show the "Date Taken" field. Here is an example, part of a folder I exported back on March 3rd, note the difference between that last two dates:

  • Img alt="text" not displayed when images are turned off in Safari

I have tried to search this, but every search has returned too many posts, so I apologize in advance.
Have I made some error or is there an issue with my Safari? For some reason my Safari does not display alt="text" when images are turned off?
This is what is supposed to happen (see http://www.w3schools.com/tags/attimgalt.asp) and it works fine in my other browsers (Opera, FF), but with Safari I get nothing - no image, no alt text, no indiciation that an image is supposed to be in that place. According to w3c, Safari is supposed to be compliant.
There is no problem with the site itself, I am designing the site and test with and without images to see how it degrades. As I said, it works properly in Opera and FF - the alt="text" text is displayed in place of the image - but not in Safari.
Is this just my Safari? How do I fix this if it is?
Is it Safari in general? If so, how do we get it fixed, because this is clearly just not correct?

It's not just you. I see the same thing in my Safari. It appears to be a Safari problem, in which case the best thing to do is submit feedback to Apple's developers via the Mac OS X feedback form. (You will not receive a response, as that page notes, but the feedback will get to the people who can use it.)

  • Lightroom 5 and Bridge 6- Color Label and Keyword compatibility

I've added color labels and keywords to images in Lightroom 5 but I'm not seeing them in Bridge CC.
Lightroom Metadata > Color Label Set is set to Lightroom Default (Red-Yellow etc.
And Bridge Preferences > Labels is also set with "Red, Yellow etc" text.
In other words they are the same,  But I'm not seeing the color labels or the keywords in Bridge.
    Thanks,

The answer to this problem is that, in order for Bridge and Lightroom to share labels etc. Lightroom has to write its metadata into xmp sidecar files.
To do this go to: Lightroom > Catalog Settings > Metadata Tab and check : Automatically write changes into XMP.

  • Why is there no cancel button when you are importing?

    Seriously...
Why is there no way of canceling when you start importing something from say, your movies folder into iMovie? I just don't understand. How hard is it to add a **** cancel button? Sometimes you import a file and iMovie decides it needs to optimize it before it imports, it can take hours depending on the file, and they don't even give you a cancel button? What the ****. I'm aware you can force quit the app, but how stupid is it, that you need to force quit out of the app just because the developers could not be bothered to add a cancel button in the most obvious place you would want one.
So yeah, am I missing something here, or is iMovie really that stupid?

Since this is a user to user forum, it might be best if you address your question directly to Apple.
    You can do that here:

  • Why isn't the color identical when PM document is converted to PDF?

    Hello all,
I am using PageMaker 7.  I have made a graphic file (TIFF) which has a background RGB color of full red (255, 0, 0).  I have placed it into a PageMaker document.  To increase the background area around the graphic with an identical red background that will cover the entire page, I added a large box shape and filled it with PageMaker's RGB color red (also 255, 0, 0).
So far so good - in PageMaker both colors look identical on my laptop screen, and look identical to the original color in the graphic file.  you can't tell where the graphic file and the large background box behind it are meeting.  However, on converting the PM document to a PDF file, the PageMaker red color looks distinctly darker on the screen than the red in the graphic file, when viewed in the PDF file.  I have tried lightening the PageMaker red in various ways by altering the RGB settings, but still cannot get an identical match of reds in the PDF file.  I don't wish to darken the red color in the graphic file.
The only solution I can think of is to go back to the graphic file and increase its area so that its red color will fill the entire page when placed into PageMaker.
    Is there another way?
    Thanks,
    Roger3

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply.  No, I haven't converted any color images from RGB to CYMK.  The original graphic file was made as RGB.  The colored box in PM7 is set to the Color Options of:
    Type: Spot
    Model: RGB
    (R 255, G 0, B 0)
As said, in PM7 the two red objects look identical in colour tinting etc on the screen, and you can't tell the difference.  But when the doc is converted to PDF the difference is obvious.
After posting to this forum last night (Australian time), I wondered if it had something to do with dot resolution.  The graphic file is 300 dpi, whereas the red PM box is filled with color that may be at a much lower DPI, causing a dullness in the color.  I assume the PM 7 default for this can't be altered. Maybe there is a setting in Distiller that could handle this, so that the colors are equalised.
The solution I'm currently using is to remove the box (or oblong) containing PM's RGB Red, then make another graphic file which is RGB Red (either at 300 dpi or 200 dpi, either TIFF or JPG, it doesn't matter), of the same page size as the PM doc, then place it onto the page and send it to the back so that everything else sits on top of it.  When converted to PDF you now can't tell the difference between the RGB Red in both graphics.
I'm happy with the result, but it's a workaround.
    Thanks,
    Roger3

  • IPhoto 09 changes color (pinker) when photos are clicked to magnify

I have just bought a Mac mini running iPhoto 09. I have imported my photos from my old pc as JPEG files into iPhoto from an external hard drive. The photos look fine in the initial view, but when double-clicking to magnify them, they go very pink.
I have tried calibrating my monitor, which did nothing.
I have tried exporting the photo and opening it in Preview, where it appears normal again.
I have tried importing into a different user account, and the same problem happened.
I have tried adjusting the color settings using ColorSync, from Generic RGB to sRGB, so no effect.
Before I delete everything and try re-importing all the photos (about 10,000) of them all over again, I was wondering if anyone else had had this problem and if there were any solutions?

    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    2. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

First I cannot get labels on the X axis.  I want to put something like 0-10    11-30    31-60   ETC
The second is that all five bars are alongside each other just like in design mode when I preview the report.
Suggestions/solutions please.  (I tried to paste screen shots but it would not allow due to size) Thanks...  Carl
    Carl

    Hi HopkinsITM,
According to your description, you used the query to retrieve data for the report, you want to display 5 bars in the chart, and labels on X axis like 0-10    11-30    31-60   ETC. If that is the case, please refer
    to the following steps:
      1. In design mode, right-click the dataset you used to retrieve data for the report and open Dataset Properties dialog box.
      2. In query text box, modify the query like below:
    SELECT HourOfDay, CallerRingTimeSeconds, num
    FROM
    select t1.HourOfDay
    ,COUNT_BIG(*) TotalCalls
    ,sum([CallerRingTimeSeconds_00_10]) [CallerRingTimeSeconds_00_10]
    ,sum([CallerRingTimeSeconds_11_30]) [CallerRingTimeSeconds_11_30]
    ,sum([CallerRingTimeSeconds_31_60]) [CallerRingTimeSeconds_31_60]
    ,sum([CallerRingTimeSeconds_61_120]) [CallerRingTimeSeconds_61_120]
    ,sum([CallerRingTimeSeconds_GT_120]) [CallerRingTimeSeconds_GT_120]
    from (select HourOfDay,
    CASE
    WHEN CallerRingTimeSeconds > -1 AND CallerRingTimeSeconds <= 10 THEN 1
    ELSE 0
    END AS CallerRingTimeSeconds_00_10,
    CASE
    WHEN CallerRingTimeSeconds > 10 AND CallerRingTimeSeconds <= 30 THEN 1

    ELSE 0
    END AS CallerRingTimeSeconds_61_120,
    CASE
    WHEN CallerRingTimeSeconds >120 THEN 1
    ELSE 0
    END AS CallerRingTimeSeconds_GT_120
    from #t) t1
    where t1.HourOfDay =1

    )AS unpvt;
      3. On the Insert tab, click Chart, and then click Insert Chart.
      4. Click on the design surface where you want the upper-left corner of the chart, and then drag to where you want the lower-right corner of the chart.
      5. Select the type of chart you want to add. Click OK.
      6. Click the chart to display the Chart Data pane.
      7. Add num to the Values area.
      8. Add CallerRingTimeSeconds to the Category Groups area.
      9. Right-click drop-down arrow next to CallerRingTimeSeconds, click Category Groups Properties dialog box.
      10. Click (fx) button next to Label, type the expression like below, then click OK.

      System-defined Include-files.                                 *
      include lzfunctiontop.                     " Global Data
      include lzfunctionuxx.                     " Function Modules
      User-defined Include-files (if necessary).                    *

  • Contacts are not appearing when they are imported after wipe!!! HELP!

I have a Z1 running 4.4 and so far this is the most annoying bug ever!
This has happened after I tried to do a full wipe on SUS!
It seems that after I import my contacts from my sd card, everything is okay. However, I use an HD Contact app which often requires me to wipe my contacts list a few time just to refresh the photos.
When this wipe happens, my contacts do not anymore appear on my list even though the system says "Contacts added/imported"
My list remains blank except for the "Emergency Number" and "Myself" entries.
    My god!
I have tried to run it on Safe Mode, hard restart, reboot, force stop the Contacts app yet nothing seems to work!
The only solution is a full wipe again and again.
This has never happened before the 4.4 update or when I tried to reinstall 4.4 via SUS.
Is anybody having the same dilemma? I could really use some help

    Hi,
Have you checked the filtering option in contacts? Open contact menu button > filter. Perhaps you have a filter hiding the contacts.

  • Are pictures duplicated when they are imported?

    I am new to iMac.
All of my pictures are in a main folder called "The Photo Album", with many subfolders within it.
I placed the folder in the folder "Pictures." I then choose "Import to Library" from the File menu.
So my question is, were the pictures duplicated into the iPhoto Library file? Can I delete "The Photo Album" folder which is in "Pictures," and still have the full iPhoto library? I thought I was just telling iPhoto where to look for my pictures, but it feels like they were all moved / copied into the iPhoto icon under "Pictures," is this correct?
Along with that, if I want to do a manual backup of iPhoto, do I just copy the "iPhoto Library" icon in the Pictures folder to an external hard drive, and is that the whole thing?
