Limit on number of series in bubble charts?

Hello all,
I need to use a bubble chart in one of my visualizations (Xcelsius Engage 2008, Excel model only - no live connection), showing gross sales and margin for 13 categories series.  If I map the series(es) individually, then they all show on the legend, and the graph limits change as I use the list box selector to choose the particular customer, but no bubbles - or any indication of data points - show up on the graph.
If, however, I choose to map to a range, I do see data points - but only for the first 6 of the 13 categories.  I've checked the cell range to ensure all 13 categories are included in the selection, and they are, but - again - only 6 show up, or get mapped to the "series" box.
I've resized to cover more real estate, thinking perhaps Xcelsius just didn't want to display bubbles on a smallish graph field, but with no change in the display results.  I have a tree map linked to the exact same data, in the same location, and it works just fine.  But nobody likes the tree map; they want bubbles.
Am I missing something, or is there a limit on the number of series a bubble chart is capable of displaying?

Two swfs showing the difference and the xlf are located at http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=9e4101c4b4a3cdc1d2db6fb9a8902bda.  Check under the "AEL" tab.

Thank you for the response, Javier.  Unfortunately, it doesn't quite answer the problem.
I have tried mapping the series individually.  While the interface will capture all of the label data, the graph itself does not show any data points when switching to preview mode, or exporting to another file type. (See "Manual Series.swf" at the link in my initial post for a visual).
The X and Y axes are correct, and do adjust depending on the customer selected in the list box, but, again, no bubbles show up.  Is there something else I'm missing, or not doing correctly?  I have an evaluation copy - perhaps it is a limit in the eval copy that would disappear upon registration of a full license?

  • Portfolio (Bubble) Chart Capability

    Greetings,
I am trying to create a bubble chart using WAD 3.5, the Portfolio chart type seems to be the most appropriate, but I can not figure out how to get the chart to show the metrics per my specification.
    X-Axis - Change in Days
    Y-Axis - Change in Value
    Z-Axis (Size) - Total Value
    Bubble Color - Region
    Individual Bubble - Opportunity
The results should be a bubble chart with 4 different series, each series containing a datapoint representing an opportunity.
The bubbles are sized based on the total value of the opportunity and are positioned in the chart based on the shift in days (x axis) and value (y axis) from a previous time period.
The data is not a problem, I have a query with all the relevant characteristics and key figures.  The issue is getting the chart to properly chart these items.  The closest I can get is with:
    Row Fields: Region
Column Fields: Opportunity, Key Figure Structure
When I do this, I do get one 'series' for each region, but all the bubbles for each series get placed at the X-Axis value for the first opportunity.  Other attempts have resulted in creation of a series for each opportunity.
    Thanks.

The frustrating part of this - is that the "Chart Wizard" view in Web App Designer shows exactly this scenario when previewing the Portfolio chart design - a few color-coded series, each containing multiple datapoints, with varying bubble sizes places on the chart based on key figures on the X and Y axes.  I can not figure out how to get any query to replicate this.

  • Bubble chart in Xcelsius

    Hi,
I am building a report which uses the below data
    Region______Verticals________calyear____Revenue
    APJ________Banking_________2007_____10
    EmEA______Insurance________2008_____20
    Central______Media___________CAGR____6.8
I need to have 3 filters for Region, Verticals and calyear
in the calyear filter I need to show only the values 2007 and 2008 but not CAGR
on this data I need to build a bubble chart where it takes Revenue values in x axis CAGR in Y axis ,intially the default value for revenue should be 2007 on the chart and in the filter
How do I need to arrange the data in excel for building this report
    Please help me out

For the filter, you just need to exclude the row containing CAGR from the filter's source data.  However the data set you've provided is somewhat confusing since the value of CAGR under your "calyear" column does not actually represent a numerical year.  This might be an issue with the bubble chart since the bubble chart represents 3 dimensions that have to be numeric.
Perhaps you can use a line chart and have CAGR as the Y axis label.  Make the plot series appear as bubbles and remove the connecting lines in the appearance settings.

  • Bubble Chart Labelling

I have a bubble chart where each doctor is his own bubble, and I have about 18 bubbles.
Is there a way to make the labels on a bubble chart be the Doctor name, instead of the number of cases eash doctor has? With 18 bubbles it's difficult to tell from the legend which color equates to which bubble, as many colors are similar...

  • Bubble chart - labels?

    Hi,
I'm a problem with the bubble chart. I need to display a specific label near every bubble. In excel It's possible with the data label function. I see that in the Xcelsius 2008 SP3 there is a "data label" selection in the Appearance - Text tab, but it allow to see only X/Y values, the series name or the bubble size....

    Hi,
I am not sure if our approach suits to your requirements but we implemented a kind of legend below the bubble chart, showing the "technical" values of the bubbles (x-/y-position and bubble size) and some additional, more functional values like name and type of the corresponding real world object which is represented by the bubble.
Our legend is dynamically filled via the drilldown-function of the bubble chart, i.e. when you move the mouse over one bubble all corresponding values of this bubble are displayed in the legend. BTW: These values remain in the legend until you move the mouse over another bubble, i.e. you don't have to keep the mouse over the bubble in question as long as you do not move it over another bubble.
    Hope this helps!

  • Bubble chart Show data tips always on

    Hi
I am having a bubble chart with 2 or more series. where itemRenderer could be triangle,Cross or Circle. Now i need to display the label on the radius of item.
    Any help is heartly welcome.
    with thanks

Thanks John, that link was very helpful.
Shame you can't seem to get the X & Y values for a normal Line chart though. However having the series name available makes such a difference

  • Bubble Chart drill down issues

I have a filter and a bubble chat with 7 series. The chart is showing up bubbles with different size and colors as per the settings when I chnage the filter
The problem is with drill down
I want to drill down to a Bar chart when I click on bubbles. Each bubble click will drill down data into that bar charchart as a pop up. I know how to do it as I have done it in the past with other components.
But when I use drill down with bubble chart, I have to assign separate destination area for each series which makes it difficult to drill down into a chart. What i want is the bubbles to drill down data into a single row so that I can map the Y-axis of chart component to that row and X axis as fixed labels. But I am not able to do that. Moreover once inserted there is no way to clear the destination cells.
However if I use data in range options in bubble chart then I can use drill down as I get only one series in that case. But that method also has limitations.
    1. I am not able to display series name on the bubbles. It doesn't make any sense to show bubbles without any labels.
    2. All bubbles are of same color.
Is it possible to overcome above two limitations when using data in range option?
    Thanks

    Hi Tarun,
as a workaround you could define a special area as mapping area for the X-Y-chart.
This area is filled via excel formulas from the bubble chart drill down destinations. You can concatenate the values from the drill down target areas, like "=A4&A5" etc. Make sure to clear all cells except the actual drill down target cells.
    Hope this helps,
    best regards
    Heiko

  • Bubble chart legend problem

    Hello.
I have problem with bubble chart the problem is that in chart legend appear the same number of object what bubble in chart e.g. if chart have 5 bubble then legend also have 5 object.
What do I want to obtain is that in chart appear bubble which have different color (color depends on condition) and legend relate only colors. For example if chart have 4 bubble 3 - red and 1 - green then in legend appear only two position which relate green and red color (now appear 4 object three about red and one green).
Can any one tell me how to resolve this problem?

I already did this I added three condition (three colors red, green and yellow) in field "Value of" I choosed "is equal to" unfortunately it didn't help.
Maybe I joust try to describe what I want to show in this chart.
Suppose I have table with four columns u201Cdateu201D, u201Camount (number type)u201D, u201Csize (number type)u201D, u201Crisku201D (text type) now where this value appear on chart:
    - date is x axis
    - amount is y axis
    - size is a bubble size
    - risk will be bubble color
Now I have 3 kind of risk u201CLowu201D (green color), u201CMediumu201D (yellow color) and u201CHighu201D (red color).
Now in my data base I have table with record:
    - u201C11-11-2009u201D, u201C1u201D, u201C2u201D, u201CMediumu201D
    - u201C12-11-2009u201D, u201C2u201D, u201C1u201D, u201CMediumu201D
    - u201C13-11-2009u201D, u201C1u201D, u201C1u201D, u201CHighu201D
    - u201C14-11-2009u201D, u201C3u201D, u201C3u201D, u201CLowu201D
    - u201C15-11-2009u201D, u201C1u201D, u201C1u201D, u201CLowu201D
Ok so now In My chart I should have 5 bubble and in legend three value (green, red, yellow) but in this case I always have five (the same number what record in table).
Sorry if this example is not clear.

  • Bubble chart with scatter chart type and different bubble sizes

    Hello everybody,
I would like to create a bubble chart (scatter chart) within Oracle 11g and Apex 4.2 with the standard chart types that come with Apex (anychart).
I want to integrate two different KPIs (key performance indicators) in the chart, one for each axis (x and y) and additionally the size of the bubbles shall represent the size of the company, the KPIs belong to.
That is to say, every bubble represents a company with two KPIs and its size.
Now, I have problems changing the size of the bubbles. Can someone give me a hint where to start or how I could achieve this with  a standard sql query  (series) !?
Is that possible with the standard charts (scatter type)?
Can I control the color of the bubbles?
How can I control the starting and ending points of the axes in order to show all bubbles completely even if they are e.g. 0,0 (x,y)  (this would show only a quarter of the bubble) or 0,3 (which would show only half of the bubble).
I will be very thankful for some hints.
Thank you very much in advance.
    Johnny

Go to any chart and look at the examples.  You can view the xml, there are bubble chart examples.

  • Bubble Chart with legend changes axis dimensions according to labels length

I have a Bubble Chart with legend on the right. Data are by series and  the series are set  dynamically with a  drop down combo which replace the content of each series from time to time.  Every time the series changes, also the name of the series changes and the legend on the right  shows the new series names. The problem is that also the x axis dimension changes according to the new labels size, so the bubble chart changes its axis width in relation to the labels length in the legend. Is its possible to make somehow the bubble chart axis of a fixed lenght?
    Xcelsius 2008, SP4, Windows XP
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Matt,
I just got a chance to try out your suggestions, and the
chart that is right in the main application renders the labels
fine, but the exact same code loaded in as a module doesn't. And it
never does, not even if the scale changes. Do you know why that
    would be?

  • Color of bubbles in bubbles chart

    Hello,
I am using a WebI bubble chart, where each bubble represents a company (company dimension used as shapes) and two measures the coordinates. I created a formula to cluster my customers into A, B and C customers and want to color my A companies red, B blue and C green.
I used the Cluster-dimension as "chart color" objects in the bubbles chart and used a custom color scheme to get the right colors for A, B and C.
Unfortunately for some reason it happens sometimes that WebI mixes up the colors, like A becomes blue instead of red and so on. I don't know exactly how to reproduce that problem, but is there a way to assign the colors to my dimension values?
    thanks

    Hi Badri ,
i tried your senario in my system . initial i got the same colour for both profit and loss in the  pie chart .
then i change some properties in the Edit customising option iand i get the desier result you want .
let me share that steps with you . wit screen shot

  • Programitically creating column series to flex chart not showing the chart

I want to create n number of series dynamically when i run my
    application.
where n can be any value it depends on the data which i
retrieve from database. below i pasted the example
    ( in this example i have taken n = 4 i.e., CountMax=4 if i
change the CountMax=6 then it should generate 6series dynamically
after calculating the values. ). just copy the below code and paste
it in Flex builder and run the application.
in this example i am facing problem, chart series are not
showing. i dont know the reason why its not showing, if anyone got
the solutions for the problem please let me know. my actual
requirement is to retrieve data from Salesforce account and want to
populate the arraylist then display the chart.

  • Obiee 10g - How to Increase the default size of Bubble chart radius axis

    Hi,
I have an requirement of creating bubble chart in obiee 10g.
When i was developing the bubble chart i noticed that there is no option of increasing the size of the bubble.
When the measure value is low the bubble is not getting displayed.
Kindly help me with any solution.
    Regards,
    Abdul

    Hi Alok_Aswal,
In SQL Server Reporting Services 2008, the Bubble chart has several custom attributes which allow us to control the size of the bubbles. "BubbleMaxSize" and "BubbleMinSize" attributes allow us to define the size of the bubble in the chart series. The values
set are in percent of the whole chart size. We can find those attributes in the property pane by selecting bubble series and expanding 'CustomAttributes' properties.
And based on my research, the Marker size has a wide range, but for some reason once we get to around 8 the bubble in the legend will not grow any bigger. So in your scenario, we can set the Marker size to 8pt, then set the appropriate “BubbleMaxSize" and
"BubbleMinSize" based on the chart size to make the size of both the bubble are the same. For example, we can also set “BubbleMaxSize" and "BubbleMinSize" to 8, then manually adjust the chart size until both the bubbles have same size.
Beside, we can delete the original legend, and drag a tablix to the right of the chart. And then insert the corresponding data and color to tablix to let it looks like a legend. For more details information, you can refer to the link below to see Mike’s

  • Multiple series in a chart

    Hi
I want to create a chart with multiple series, each serie referring to a specific country.
The query below is not accepted:
    SELECT null url,s.date_from,s.country,sum(s.unique_players) unique_players
FROM   my_table s ...As a workaround I changed the query to:
    SELECT null url, s.date_from,
    sum(decode(s.country, 'se', s.unique_players, 0)) sweden,
    sum(decode(s.country, 'fi', s.unique_players, 0)) finland,
    sum(decode(s.country, 'no', s.unique_players, 0)) norway ...
FROM   my_table s ...It works well but it is not very flexible, in the case a new country has to be added.
Is there a better way to achieve this in Apex 3?
    Thanks
    Luis

    Luis,
You can chart a variable number of series with a query like the second one you listed, except use "Function returning query" instead of "SQL query". Then generate the column list clause dynamically, one for each series.
There's an enhancement request logged to make this easier.
