Limit time for EXEC()

We are using a script that executes (via EXEC()) precompiled scripts via "Export Execution Command" in the DI Mgt Console "Batch JOB Configuration" tab. We run a sequence of EXEC() statemenst in the script running against a couple of dozen databases. We use Try/Catch logic for each EXEC() so if there is a failue the script continues. BUT we had a condition last night where thee was a problem with a production database and one of the EXEC commands got "hung". No error message returned so it hung for hours.
Is there any way to assign a timeout value when running an EXEC command from a script?

How would you detect whether client is idle and not streaming if his SWF client is open in browser and subscribing to you 24-hour stream? Dont know how you would do it. But if you can - i suppose you can disconnect client using server-side API or say by Auth Adaptor.

    Looking to limit time (video, games, etc...) for each individual kid on the iPad.  We noticed you can do this on the kindle fire and really hope that we can do this in the iPad.

    the only way I know is through settings/general/restrictions
    If the games use the internet, you can set internet access restrictions within your router settings. You'll have to refer to the router manufacture web site for support on that one.

    How do I use Airport Extreme to limit internet time for my kids?  His computer is hardwired to the modem.

    You can set up daily time limits for each computer that connects using wireless, but it is not possible to do this when a computer is connecting directly using a wired Ethernet connection.
    Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility on your Mac and click Manual Setup
    Click the Access Control tab below the icons
    Select Timed Access
    For more details on this, click the Help menu at the top of the screen and enter the following phrase into the search box:

    A more sophisticated approach would be to use a service provided by OpenDNS. From your computer, this would allow you to monitor web sites visited, and block any unsuitable sites. More info is here:

  • Best solution for EXEC SQLu2026. INSERT? Time problem

    Hi:
    I have a problem with native sql in abap. I have next code and itu2019s working properly (see below) , but the problem occurs when abap internal table is too big, because exec sql u2026 endexec is executed one time for each internal table line, so it needs too much time.
    Do you know any solution? Is it possible to insert the internal table with only one exec sql?
    Thanku2019s in advance for your time.
        LOOP AT i_table.
          EXEC SQL.
            insert into oracle_table@db
            (value1,
             Value2
            values
            (:i_table-val1,
             :i_table-val2
          ENDEXEC.
        ENDLOOP.

    Definately this approach will take a lot of time.
    i would suggest that you create a table, fill that table with the internal table you are using for the insertion and use below mentioned code this will improve your processing time.
    Exec SQL.
    INSERT INTO
    EXEC SQL.
    insert into oracle_table@db
    (value1,
    Value2
    SELECT  COLUMN1, COLUMN2 FROM DUAL
    FROM ZTABLE
    ENDEXEC.

  • How can I get Messages to show the correct time for read receipts?

    Messages in Mountain Lion shows the wrong time for read receipts. For example, my iPad will show a message was read at 3:37 pm but if I open Messages on my MacBook, the read receipt shows the time that I opened the Messages app as opposed to the time the message was actually read. This is not too much of an issue if my iPad is handy, but really, shouldn't Messages on my MacBook be able to show the correct time the message was read? It syncs all the other infromation with Messages on iOs.
    I should mention that if Messages is running on my MacBook when the recipient reads the message, then it does show the correct time the message was read. It's if Messages was not running and I re-launch it that the read receipt time gets mixed up.

    HI,
    As far as I am aware Messages marks or time stamps an iMessage at the time of receipt rather then the time you got around to reading it.
    I will admit that in most cases reading and receiving as the app opens will be near enough the same time in some conversations.
    Adding Time Stamps to Chat is what iChat has always done particularly with AIM based Chats.
    The "Sync" in Messages is "display on all devices"  and after that each iMessages is dealth with separately on each device.
    There is no syncing of deleting/dimssing an iMessages or having read it on another device.

  • Finalize() method being called multiple times for same object?

    I got a dilly of a pickle here.
    Looks like according to the Tomcat output log file that the finalize method of class User is being called MANY more times than is being constructed.
    Here is the User class:
    package com.db.multi;
    import java.io.*;
    import com.db.ui.*;
    import java.util.*;
    * @author DBriscoe
    public class User implements Serializable {
        private String userName = null;
        private int score = 0;
        private SocketImage img = null;
        private boolean gflag = false;
        private Calendar timeStamp = Calendar.getInstance();
        private static int counter = 0;
        /** Creates a new instance of User */
        public User() { counter++;
        public User(String userName) {
            this.userName = userName;
            counter++;
        public void setGflag(boolean gflag) {
            this.gflag = gflag;
        public boolean getGflag() {
            return gflag;
        public void setScore(int score) {
            this.score = score;
        public int getScore() {
            return score;
        public void setUserName(String userName) {
            this.userName = userName;
        public String getUserName() {
            return userName;
        public void setImage(SocketImage img) {
            this.img = img;
        public SocketImage getImage() {
            return img;
        public void setTimeStamp(Calendar c) {
            this.timeStamp = c;
        public Calendar getTimeStamp() {
            return this.timeStamp;
        public boolean equals(Object obj) {
            try {
                if (obj instanceof User) {
                    User comp = (User)obj;
                    return comp.getUserName().equals(userName);
                } else {
                    return false;
            } catch (NullPointerException npe) {
                return false;
        public void finalize() {
            if (userName != null && !userName.startsWith("OUTOFDATE"))
                System.out.println("User " + userName + " destroyed. " + counter);
        }As you can see...
    Every time a User object is created, a static counter variable is incremented and then when an object is destroyed it appends the current value of that static member to the Tomcat log file (via System.out.println being executed on server side).
    Below is the log file from an example run in my webapp.

    It really does seem to me like finalize is being called multiple times for the same object.
    That number should incremement for every instantiated User, and finalize can only be called once for each User object.
    I thought this was impossible?
    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks...
    I am already thinking of ideas to limit the number of threads.
    Unfortunately there are two threads of execution in the servlet handler, one handles requests and the other parses the collection of User objects to check for out of date timestamps, and then eliminates them if they are out of date.
    The collection parsing thread is currently a javax.swing.Timer thread (Bad design I know...) so I believe that I can routinely check for timestamps in another way and fix that problem.
    Just found out too that Tomcat was throwing me a ConcurrentModificationException as well, which may help explain the slew of mysterious behavior from my servlet!
    The Timer thread has to go. I got to think of a better way to routinely weed out User objects from the collection.
    Or perhaps, maybe I can attempt to make it thread safe???
    Eg. make my User collection volatile?
    Any opinions on the best approach are well appreciated.

    Regards,

    I have some suggestions. But first, you realize that you have some redundant indexes, right? You have an index on account(account_name) and also account(account_name, account_id), and also account_history(invoice_id) and account_history(invoice_id, adjustment_id). No matter, I will suggest some new composite indexes.
    Also, you do not need two lines for these conditions:
    and round(a.account_balance, 2) > 0
    AND a.account_balance > 0
    You can just use: and a.account_balance >= 0.005
    So the formatted query isselect a.account_id,
           round(a.account_balance, 2) account_balance,
           nvl(ah.invoice_id, ah.adjustment_id) transaction_id,
           to_char(ah.effective_start_date, 'DD-MON-YYYY') transaction_date,
           to_char(nvl(i.payment_due_date, to_date('30-12-9999', 'dd-mm-yyyy')),
                   'DD-MON-YYYY') due_date,
           ah.current_balance - ah.previous_balance amount,
           decode(ah.invoice_id, null, 'A', 'I') transaction_type
      from account a, account_history ah, invoice i
    where a.account_id = ah.account_id
       and a.account_type_id = 1000002
       and (ah.invoice_id is not null or ah.adjustment_id is not null)
       and ah.CURRENT_BALANCE > ah.previous_balance
       and ah.invoice_id = i.invoice_id(+)
       AND a.account_balance >= .005
    order by a.account_id, ah.effective_start_date desc;You will probably want to select:
    1. From ACCOUNT first (your smaller table), for which you supply a literal on account_type_id. That should limit the accounts retrieved from ACCOUNT_HISTORY
    2. From ACCOUNT_HISTORY. We want to limit the records as much as possible on this table because of the outer join.
    3. INVOICE we want to access last because it seems to be least restricted, it is the biggest, and it has the outer join condition so it will manufacture rows to match as many rows as come back from account_history.
    Try the query above after creating the following composite indexes. The order of the columns is important:create index account_composite_i on account(account_type_id, account_balance, account_id);
    create index acct_history_comp_i on account_history(account_id, invoice_id, adjustment_id, current_balance, previous_balance, effective_start_date);
    create index invoice_composite_i on invoice(invoice_id, payment_due_date);All the columns used in the where clause will be indexed, in a logical order suited to the needs of the query. Plus each selected column is indexed as well so that we should not need to touch the tables at all to satisfy the query.
    Try the query after creating these indexes.
    A final suggestion is to try larger sort and hash area sizes and a manual workarea policy.alter session set workarea_size_policy = manual;
    alter session set sort_area_size = 2147483647;
    alter session set hash_area_size = 2147483647;

    Hi,
    This sounds like it is about Window positions.
    iChat has Default places for Incoming Invites.
    Video is always top Center of your Screen
    Audio and Text chats are Upper right with the Audio slightly lower than Text Chats.
    Secondary invites are sort of Stacked like when you open multiple files from the same App.
    Your outgoing Windows are "Remembered" as to where the last one was when you used it.
    This can be an issue if you use your Mac with a second display and turn Off Mirroring.
    You windows can get "left" on the other screen.
    Go to System Preferences > Displays and turn On Mirroring and the windows should come back to one Screen/display.
    If this does not help go to your Home Folder/Library/Preferences and delete (Drag to Trash) com.apple.ichat.plist and restart iChat.
    Unfortunately you will need to reset any iChat Preferences you have changed from defaults.

  • Hyperion System 9.3.1 reports taking longer time for the very first time

    We are on Hyperion System 9.3.1. The Financial reports are taking longer time (like 2 to 3 minuter) for the very first time for each login. The subsequest reports are does work faster.
    The behaviour is same for the Production and Development environments.
    All the reporting services have given enough JVM heap size.
    FYI, Reporting and Workspace runngin on the same server. Workspace/Reporting are clusted in two servers. HFM app is running on different server. HFM web is on different server. Shared Services is also on running on different server.
    Any help would be greately appreciated.
    Thanks.

    The reason they run quicker the subsequent times, is because the data has already been cached in the system.
    You could try the usual tricks to speed the report up:
    - move items into POV
    - have children and parent in the same row
    - arrange dimensions in inverse outline order
    - remove excessive formatting
    - push report calculations back to the data source
    We have found that using lots of dynamically calculated members also slows down reports, so try and limit the number of these.
    Hope this helps. If not maybe give us an idea of how the report is created to see if other changes could be made.

  • Bex Reports takes long time for filtering

    Hi,
    We have gone live in last December.And already our inventory cube contains some 15 million records,sales cube contains 12 million records.
    Is there any specific limit to number of records.Because while doing filtering in inventory report or sales reports it is taking very  long time.
    Is there any alternative or we should delete some the data from the cube.
    for filtering any value it is taking long time than running the query itself.
    Pls help...
    Regards,
    viren.

    Hi Viren,
    I hope a cube can perform well even at 100 million records with some performance tunning. So i absolutely doubt why it is taking long time for your cube with just 10-15 million records.
    Do a performance analysis and check whether aggregates will be helpful or not.
    Check the below link for how to do a performance analysis.

  • Is there a way through parental controls to limit time by weekly totals?

    OK, so I am trying to limit time on the computer by hours per week instead of a daily total.  is there any way that anyone knows how to do this?
    For example, I would like to limit computer use to 3 hours total per week.
              That being said, I would like to 3 hours to be able to be used whenever.
    It could be monday morning for 3 hours, or friday for 3 hours.
    Or monday 1 hour, tuesday 1 hour, and wednesday 1 hour.
    however the user wants to spend their 3 hours.
    Anyone have any ideas?

We are also going to look in to the option of attaching metadata and scanning that at our exit points (e-mail, printers, usb's, etc.) so that users have free reign internally but can't send sensitive documents out. Obviously it's all going to be very expensive!
    Cheers for the respones guys.

  • Can I reduce the execution time for a step in a TestStand ?

    Hi,
    I calculated the a single step execution time for TestStand Ver 2.0. It comes to around 20 milliseconds/step. Can I reduce this excution time ?
    Are there any settings available for configuring execution time parameters except result logging and exception handlings to reduce the execution time ?

    It's difficult to tell how you what time you are reporting for your step. Clearly we don't have control of the time it takes your code to execute. However, we are constantly working on reducing the overhead of calling the code. In addition, you don't mention the type of step you are calling. One way to have a common reference is to use the example \Examples\Benchmarks\Benchmarks.seq. Below have have posted the results of running this sequence with both tracing and result collection enabled and then disabled. I have a 700 MHz, 128 MB RAM, Dell PIII laptop. In this example there is no code within the code modules. You notice that calling a DLL has the least overhead with a minimum of 7.459 ms with tracing and results enabled and 0.092 ms with tracing and results disabled. Although not included below, if I enable results be disable tracing I get a minimum time of 0.201 ms, a 100x improvement on your time.
    With Results and Tracing enabled.
    7.578 milliseconds per step for CVI Standard Prototype - Object File
    7.579 milliseconds per step for CVI Standard Prototype - DLL
    7.459 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype
    8.589 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit
    9.563 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit with Precondition
    10.015 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit with Precondition and 4 Parameters
    7.868 milliseconds per step for ActiveX Automation
    8.892 milliseconds per step for LabVIEW Standard Prototype
    With tracing and results disabled.
    0.180 milliseconds per step for CVI Standard Prototype - Object File
    0.182 milliseconds per step for CVI Standard Prototype - DLL
    0.092 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype
    0.178 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit
    0.277 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit with Precondition
    0.400 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit with Precondition and 4 Parameters
    0.270 milliseconds per step for ActiveX Automation
    1.235 milliseconds per step for LabVIEW Standard Prototype

    How do I limit time on Facetime to include length and times? ios 5.0.1 ipod touch latest model do not wish to disable whole app.  Thanks

    No such setting exists on the iPod.  For home use, you may be able to configure your router so that wifi is only available for the iPod durng certain times of the day.

  • Displaying Non-Work time for all resources via a Calendar?

    I am looking for a way to display a calendar or a view of all resources that will show the planned vacation time for each resource based on the "non-work time" set in each resource calendar.

    Hi,
    As workaround solution, through P6 professional you can create a report with choosing
    "Resources" as subject Area and selecting "Time Distributed Data" option and,
    At "Time Intervals Field" you can select "Limit" to be distributed.
    This will give you a tabular report showing resource limit over selected period with selected intervals.
    Regards,
    Marcos
