Limitted number of members for Entity

Hi all,
I am creating my application, but my client has more than 11.000 members for the Entity dimension. Is there any limitation in the amount of members that I can create for Entity? Do you think It will affect in the efficency of my apllication?
Thank you.
Edu

Hi,
There is no virtual limit in terms of number of members in a dimension. But having this many entities creates practical difficulties I think. Managing the workflow could be extremely difficult. Aggregation times might be horrendously long if parent levels are stored. If you have parent levels dynamic, report retrieval gets affected.
You can however get over the difficulties by optimising dimensions and keeping the block size very low (about 10 kb). It'd be wise to keep number of dimensions also limited. Additionally infrastructure to support such big application must be carefully designed. In short, yes, it is possible to have this many entities but extra care is required.
Cheers,
Alp

  • Limited Number of Devices for Testing?

I am working on a project along with a third party vendor to develop and publication for Newsstand.  We have the app created and the content live for testing but I am being told by the outside company that there is a limited amount of devices that I can test on via UDID.  In other words, we have hit our limit and can no longer share our development .ipa with other testers.
Is that correct?  It's been about a year since I have tested an app and don't seem to remember that being an issue before.  Is it something new Apple changed?
    Thanks.

Does that include all apps on your account or per individual app?  In other words, we have a standard app that has been developed over a year ago that was tested, we now have the additional Newsstand app.  Is that 100 devices total for both apps?
Thats for getting back to me so quickly.

  • CR2008 and SAP BW - Only limited number of values for static parameter

    Hello Experts,
we have the following constellation / problem:
    - SAP Query BW 7.0 with variables
    - a report built upon this query with Crystal Reports 2008
    - now if we execute the report and try to fill in the parameters (= SAP BW variables), not all values are displayed for selection and there seems to be no possibility to further scroll down; e.g. the months 01.1993-08.2006 are displayed, but not later than 08.2006
This is really a problem for us since the users won´t be able to select e.g. the desired time range !
I read already the SAP notes 1218588 and 1211902 and I 'implemented' 1211902, but still only a few values are displayed (the same as before I changed the values for BrowseTimeout and MaxNBrowseValues). Besides that, in the solutions in the SAP notes Crystal Reports 2008 is not explicitly mentioned (so I manually created the DWORD-keys).
Many thanks for your help in advance !
    Frank

When I do a search for an image I only have a limited number of images. There used to be a ton of pictures on my screen and an unlimited amount of pictures to look through. Is there a way of changing this back to the way it used to be???

Thanks.  So there's no means of knowing whether a text message has been delivered, not to mention time of delivery.  Perhaps I've gone for the wrong phone.  It might do a lot but seems to miss out on some basics.

  • Financial Reporting: Base members of Current Point of View for Entity

How do you typically handle reports in which you'd like to show all base members of the current point of view, but also allow the user to select a base entity?
Example A: Base members of Current Point of View for Entity
User selects a base entity: report errors
User selects a parent: report functions as expected and shows base entities
Example B: Base members of Current Point of View for Entity (Inclusive)
User selects a base entity: report functions as expected and shows the base entity
User selects a parent: report shows base entities (as expected), but also shows the parent entity (which we do not want to see)
I think the last case listed is what we want, but is there any way to just show the base entities? Like an advanced suppression option or something I'm missing.
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, we don't have anything that uniquely identifies our base entities (close, but not all of them). However, the report does work as desired by using the following for entity, set in the advanced properties:
Base members of Current Point of View for Entity (Inclusive) AND Bottom of hierarchy Entity
This will allow the user to select either A) parent or B) base entity from the hierarchy and the report will show either A) base entities of the parent (not the parent) or B) the base entity.
Not sure why this works and all the other things attempted did not, but as long as it works. Also tried conditional formatting on Level, but that always threw a level 0 (for both base and parent).

  • Maximum number of members in a dimension (BSO)

we are designing a new planning application and the requirement for one of the dimensions may force us to have a large number of members. I needed a ballpark figrue on what the maximum number of members should be in planning for it to work in an acceptable manner (aggregate times, run time calculations etc) ... the number we are looking at is over 30,000 members and another 15,000 shared members 10-11 levels deep. If any one has experience with such large dimension, can you shed some light on how long the aggregation times would take and if we use it in form, how best to agg the RTPs for that dimension? thank you in advance.

  • Maximum number of members in ASO outline

    Hi All,
We are using Essbase 11.1.2.1. We have ASO cube with 11 dimensions, 1 dimension is expected to have more than 30 million members. Is that allowed ? What is the maximum limit for members in ASO cube ?
Also how to improve performance for such cube ?
    Kindly advice.

I believe the answer is no. The maximum number of members is 20 million: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_dbag/frameset.htm?limits.html#limits_8

  • Maximum members for a Dimension in a BSO cube

    Hi,
What is the maximum number of members a dimension can have in BSO cubes ? I might have over 50,000 for a particular Dimension. Is it advisable ?
Since I have complex calculations involved , i cannot go with ASO cube.
    Please advice.
    Thanks

The limits are in the Database Administrator's Guide. See the section on 'Block Storage Database Limits':
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_dbag/frameset.htm?limits.html
In reality you will probably hit performance problems before you hit the limits.

  • Maximum number of members in a dimension

    Hi,
Is there a limitation of number of members in a dimension in Oracle Olap?
    Thanks,
    Krishna

I think you got answer for this, which I'll post here for the benefit of other viewers:
"There is no hard limit on the number of members of dimension in Oracle OLAP. You may run into some practical limits based on your HW and cube design, but that won’t be until you’re dealing with dimensions in the multimillion member range."
Say you have a dimensions of 2 million values and another 3 dimensions with 1000 values each. Potential size of the cube if full of data is 2,000,000 * 1000*1000*1000 which make it big. Say you have a couple more dimensions 10,000 and 10,000 ..even bigger.
Compressing the cube to make sure its as small as possible, where patterns of null cells are not stored is good practice most of the time, especially great when there are lots of null values when there's large dimensions. Partitioning and general good modelling are also key. See the OLAP User's Guide for more information.

  • Maximum number of members in a dimension in ASO 11.1.2.1

    Hi all,
Is there any limitations on number of members in a dimension in ASO 11.1.2.1?
Also can we predict the maximum number from the 64 bit theory as described in the DBAG?
I guess the maximum must be more than 20 million which I believe was the limit in Essbase 7.
We are working on an application for customer analysis where number of customer will be much more than 20 million.
Can anyone tell me what is the maximum number of members they have seen in one ASO dimension?
    Thanks.

    Hi Rav,
Is it somewhere documented about the limitation of 20M members? What I see in the dbag page 34 of chapter 62 is "64-bit Dimension Size Limit for Aggregate Storage Database Outline" where it says maximun bits for a leaf member can be 64 and bits are determined by log2(no of members). From this calculation, number of members can be lot higher. Please let me know if this 20M member limitation is documented somewhere.
    Many thanks.

  • Display Currency Value of User POV for Entity & Value in Text Box (Header)

I am looking for a function in Financial Reporting Studio that operates the same as the HsCurrency function in Smart View. This would allow batch reports displaying the currency value of the User POV for Entity based on the User POV for Value. Right now I have to have Member Lists for separate reports and different currencies as I am only able to display the Value dimension in the heading of a given report. Users will not be certain of the currency if the Value dimension is <Entity Curr Total>.
I tried the HFMCurrency text function, however the entity is not defined in a Row / Column / Page reference as the entity is determined by the User's Point of View.
Is there a way to display the currency value of a User's Point of View for Entity based on the User's Point of View for Value?
Reference from Oracle Hyperion Smart View for Office, Fusion Edition, User's Guide:
    HsCurrency
Data sources: Financial Management, Hyperion Enterprise
HsCurrency retrieves the currency value of the specified dimension member. Entity and Value are the only valid members for the HsCurrency function.
    Syntax
    HsCurrency (“Connection,Entity;Value”)
    Example
In this example, HsCurrency retrieves the entity currency where the currency for the East Sales entity is USD, and the currency for the UKSales entity is GBR. The EastSales entity displays USD, and UKSales displays GBR.
    HsCurrency(“Comma”,”Entity#EastRegion.EastSales;Value#<Entity Currency>.”)
    HsCurrency(“Comma”,”Entity#EastRegion.UKSales;Value#<Entity Currency>.”)

  • How to calculate optimized number of members of WLS cluster

    Hi everyone.
I have a Oracle AS Portal 11g that run on a cluster with 2 managed servers. Each of managed server run with 8Gb heap (it is too much, I think so).
My system has two node with 32G RAM each one (that run RHEL 4.x). While monitoring, I see that my server use a little amount of CPU. So, I want to increase the number members of cluster. I read the sizing guide for WebLogic Portal but it was not show any guide to determine how to calculate the optimized number of members of cluster.
I'm stuck in this situation for a week. Because my cluster will became "Warning" state after several days caused by Stuck thread. I want to increase size of cluster to improve HA (I'm trying tuning other factor such as network, DB, I/O, ... )
Please tell me your idea to calculate and design the size of cluster with desired resource (eg: 32Gb RAM total, and 6G heap size for each of WLS instance).
    Every reply is appreciated
    Regards
    Cuong Pham

Looking at your struck thread behaviour of application, even increasing the Managed Server will not help.
Yes of course it may provide few more days of application available than the current condition but on long run definitely you will face the same issue again.
Better understand the reason for threads getting struck with the help of thread dump, stack and troubleshoot the actual issue.
Below link will guide you in over coming this issue if there are no leaks in application and if your application actually requires time to process requests
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs92/ConsoleHelp/taskhelp/tuning/TuningExecuteThreads.html
Other Stuck Thread Handling procedures which weblogic provides are given below
WebLogic Server checks for stuck threads periodically. If all application threads are stuck, a server instance marks itself failed, if configured to do so, exits. You can configure Node Manager or a third-part high-availability solution to restart the server instance for automatic failure recovery.
You can configure these actions to occur when not all threads are stuck, but the number of stuck threads have exceeded a configured threshold,
■Shut down the Work Manager if it has stuck threads. A Work Manager that is shut down will refuse new work and reject existing work in the queue by sending a rejection message. In a cluster, clustered clients will fail over to another cluster member.
■Shut down the application if there are stuck threads in the application. The application is shutdown by bringing it into admin mode. All Work Managers belonging to the application are shut down, and behave as described above.
■Mark the server instance as failed and shut it down it down if there are stuck threads in the server. In a cluster, clustered clients that are connected or attempting to connect will fail over to another cluster member.

  • What is the limited number of users?

What is the limited number of users?

WHile your question is a bit too vague to answer with certainty I'll start with a res[ponse and you can fine tune it if it is not what you are asking about.
The number of users of any single product for a single user license at any given moment in time is one.

  • Create standby maximum number of logfiles for each thread

The oracle doc states this equation for appropriate number of standby redo log file groups
(maximum number of logfiles for each thread +1) * maximum number of threads
How do you get the maximum number of logfiles for each thread and the max thread?
    Thanks!

If you are running RAC you can, in theory, be running with a diferent count
of Online Redo Logs in each thread (instance).
However, normally, you would have the same number of Redo Logs in each
    thread.
The theoretical max is prescribed at the CREATE DATABASE and can be
changed with a CREATE CONTROLFILE. If you do an
ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE
the sql script in the tracefile shows the maximum number of logs and members.

  • How to disable cache implementation in 8.1 SP6 for entity beans

How to disable cache implementation in 8.1 SP6 for entity beans
In our production environment, we want to disable cache implementation for entity beans. We are using weblogic 8.1 SP6.
Weblogic cache implementation has been causing many cachefull exceptions so we want that it fetches the data from database everytime instead of cache.

Check the "max-beans-in-cache" setting in your weblogic-ejb-jar.xml. The cache full exception, means that a new bean could not be created because of this cache being full.
Nothing to do with fetching from the database directly.
If you really want direct fetches then do not use beans at all. Consider using direct JDCB/SQL calls (without a entity bean) to fetch huge data.
Let's again review your application based on the below explanation before making a decision on which configuration change to perform:
If you truly have many ejbs simultaneously enrolled in transactions, then yes, the cache must be big enough to hold all the instances.
Your cache must have a max size large enough to handle your peak simultaneous transaction load.
Also, try to ask the following query to your application developer. Does every user actually have to have more than one bean in the cache ? Are many of these values read-only reference values that are not updated ?
    SOLUTION CHOICE:
    1. If you are testing with more number of users simultaneously, then you will need to increase the "max-beans-in-cache" setting in your weblogic-ejb-jar.xml to match the load.
    2. If you have few users but still seeing a lot of beans, then consult with your application developer and try to ask the above questions (Does every user have more than......) and based on that try to redesign/tune your application to make it an effective Entity bean model.
    3. If you have queries where huge result sets are returned, consider using plain/direct JDB/SQL calls.
