Lines on MacBook Screen -- Help!

Hi! I have a late 2006 black MacBook 2,1 and whenever I boot up after a night of it being off, these lines appear on the screen. I can move the display back and forth and they'll move and some go away but I usually have to do that several times, lightly push one corner of the screen back and pull the other corner of the screen forward to get the to go away, sometimes i have to tap on the bezel around the screen and they'll go away, sometimes pushing down on the display will make then go away, and sometimes its just shear luck. Has anyone had this problem, heard of this problem, and more importantly know how to fix this problem? I'll take a couple of pictures when it happens. I know it's not the video card as the screen shots look normal. Thanks in advance for your help!! I know it has nothing to do with the opperating system either because it did this while running snow leopard, lion, and now mountain lion.

I have this same problem--mine was only on the right hand side of the page. It just came back from being fixed today (they replaced the main logic board). Unfortunately, it still has the problem. I'm working up the resolve to deal with this all over again.

  • Out  to TV causes lines on macbook screen

When I output to my TV using the Apple adapter, and as soon as I launch Front Row, my Macbook screen becomes nothing but lines, horizontally. The TV looks fine and I can watch it.
This also happens if I'm connected to my TV and use VLC.
After this happens the only way for e to get my macbook screen working again is to unplug the adapter.
I also noticed that once I get the screen back Front Row, even though it's been exited, still is using 99% of my processor.
So I guess what I'm saying is 'mirroring' my screen doesn't work.
    Never had this problem before.
    Thanks for any input.

I'd guess that you are experiencing the same problem detailed in this forum discussion:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2402283&tstart=0
Evidently, the last update to Snow Leopard, 10.6.3, has caused this problem. The solution is to switch back to 10.6.2.

  • IBook G4 Lines (barcodes) on screen - help

Ive got green lines and barcode like graphics on my iBook G4 1.2 screen. Random places depending on what is on the screen. The scary thing for me is, using back to my mac shows the same lines!
    Any advice?
Computer runs just fine otherwise.. Could it just be the graphics chip? I could honestly care less for what i use it for, as long as it isnt a sign the logic board is crapping out and the computer wont work in a week. If it is just the graphics portion, i should be fine otherwise?

Don't understand this. Is that using an external monitor

Well could be the GPU. Try pressure from underneath in the area of the option-Apple key. Better? Shim repair or reball.
Also could be the GPU which is a ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 4x AGP and has a known failure rate.

  • My macbook pro keeps freezing with vertical lines on the screen

I have a 2010 macbook pro that has worked wonderfully until now.  As of late it keeps freezing with vertical lines across the screen.  To me this indicates a hardware problem, but I ran a diagnostic (restarted while holding D) and it didn't find any errors.  It seems that it happens when I move or bump my macbook, leading me to think it may possibly be a disk problem, but I'm not sure how to check this.  Anybody else ever have this problem or could suggest a fix for it?

You can try a pram reset, which might help with the display, but the bumoing thing is what concerns me.
    PRAM reset:
Power down, power back up and hold the following keys before the start up chime.
option, command, P, R,(no commas) continue to hold these keys till you hear the start up chime 2 times then release.
Reboot see if this helps, the bumping part scares me.
    Hope this helps

  • Why is my MacBook Pro **crashing** changing to a blue screen with lines or distorted screen when I open logic or Ableton Live

Why is my MacBook Pro **crashing** changing to a blue screen with lines or distorted screen when I open logic or Ableton Live. Then I have to restart by long pressing the power button. Can somebody plz help me

What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.

  • Single pixel white line across macbook pro retina screen

I have a Mid-2012 model of the Macbook Pro 15inch with Retina screen which is just out of 1 year warentee.
There has suddenly appeared a very thin white (pixelated) line across my screen - about 1/3 way down from the top.
Its constantly there, but more visible on a grey background.
I've contacted Mac about it and they say since its out of warentee they can't help!
Its literally 14months old... almost seems like the issue is perfectly timed to happen just out of warentee!
I'd be keen to hear if others have experienced similar problems with the retina screen or have found any solutions!

I don't know what service options are available in India but if this helps I do know that once you purchase your Apple product the warranty is valid anywhere in the world.

MacBook pro won't power up! Acting asleep, black screen, fans don't fire up. Light nr catch pulsing, have taken batt out and reset but still blank screen, help!!

You may want to try this.
    Solution A
Start up your MBP while pressing Option (alt)|, Command, P, R until your hear 3 chimes rather than 2 as indicated by apple. This worked for me the first time.
    Solution B
Start your MBP while pressing Option (alt), Command, S
Hold until you see the computer automatic routine. When it finally stops type the following followed by "return":
    fsck -fy
It will probably indicate some problem related to "pcscd.pub" (should be 16 instead of 17). I haven't figured out what this means but somewhere in the Internet i read it is related to scan cards...
More importantly this routine will fix any problems with your HDD similarily to disk repair. When it ends, it will tell you if it has fixed/modified anything. If it has, run the routine again by typing again "fsck -fy"
Lastly, reboot by typing "reboot" (followed by "return")
    Solution C
Start up your MBP while pressing option (alt), command, S
hold keys until you see computer commands scrolling
when the routine stops type the following, each line followed by the "return" key:
    mount -uw /
    chmod 775 /
    chmod 1775 /
    reboot
After which your computer should reboot on it's own.
Each of the above has worked for me at one time or another. Once your computer has rebooted from the DVD you can reinstall OS X. If your problems started after installing 10.5.6, then I don't suggest updating until 10.5.5.
I'm very very disappointed with my 2007 MBP, it started to give me problems after 1 year. had to change the HDD and lately when I isntalled 10.5.6 it suddenly refused to start up., My previous Mac laptop (2003 866Mhz) worked for 4 years without a hitch. Ironically I've had to use it to access the internet and find solutions for my current MBP.
    best of luck

  • Help--why has MacBook screen gone dark and how do I get it back?

I have a  MacBook (model 4,1  running OS 6.8).  I use the MacBook as my desktop computer in conjunction with a separate desktop monitor. Today, when I unplugged a USB hub from one of the ports (after carefully ejecting anything on the desktop that needed to be ejected before unplugging), the screen on the MacBook--not the separate monitor--suddenly went dark.  I thought it had gone to sleep or into screensaver mode, but noticed that the white light on the MacBook also wasn't showing.
The separate monitor display (on which I'm typing this message) seems fine.  I checked DIsplays/Arrangement in System Preferences, but both displays were detected in their usual arrangement, though I did notice that the working display has a white bar across the top but the MacBook display doesn't have one.  I clicked "Detect Displays," but that didn't change anything.
I then did a restart, and things seemed to go as usual:  the shutdown went okay and on restart, the white light went on on the MacBook and the monitor screen lit up normally.  However, the MacBook's screen is still dark and the white light is off.
Can anyone tell me why this happened and how to get my MacBook screen back?  I don't know whether unplugging the hub caused the problem or whether it was just a coincidence that something that runs the MacBook display happened to fail right then.  Would appreciate any help out there very much--thanks!
PS: Just tried shutting down and powering on again with the separate monitor unplugged, but the MacBook screen still stays black and the white light shuts off as soon as the desktop loads.  When I plugged the separate monitor back in, it worked fine.  So the problem doesn't seem to be a conflict with the separate monitor (which I've used for years).

Update:  I went away for an hour, and when I came back I saw that the white light had gone on as usual when the MacBook went to sleep.  When I touched the keyboard, both displays went on; however, the MacBook display went dark immediately and the white light is still out.

My new iPhone 5 has black and white lines on the screen. It's not been damaged. I've tried turning it off but this does not solve the problem? Please help. I can't find my answer on the Internet.

By far the most common problem hardware-wise seems to be scuffs on the aluminium. Yours is the first report of a faulty screen I've seen.
If you use the same Apple ID on both devices it'll sync whatever you want it to - music/apps/photos/messages/etc.
I've just switched from a Galaxy S3 to iPhone 5 (having already owned an iPad for a while) so I'm in a similar position!

  • Dropped my iPhone 4s and now there are lines across the screen?! Help!

    Hey everyone!
So, I have recently dropped my iPhone 4S and now there are all these blue vertical lines across the screen, which occasionally change colour also.
I am still able to receive messages and calls, and siri still works, it's simply that I can't see a single thing I am doing- which is very difficult!
I was wondering if this is an issue that needs to be fixed at an Apple store- and if so, how much it would cost? Or if I would be able to fix it myself somehow.
N.B: I've tried to reset it, it doesn't work. I have also tried to restore the iPhone, but iTunes won't let me do this as I have to have the 'find my iPhone' app turned off, which I cannot do because I can't see anything I'm doing!
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions,
    Kirstoodles.

Yes. It's broken. A replacement will cost you $199.
Or if I would be able to fix it myself somehow.
The iPhone is not user servicable. Apple does not sell parts for the iPhone. any parts you could get are either stolen, counterfeit, or salvaged.  Atempting to fix it yourself will render it unsupportable and forfeit your right to service from Apple, including an out of warranty replacement.

  • The screen resolution in 1920x1200 dropped on my MacBook Pro 17". Seems like I have not the same pixels. There are also vertical, thin lines on the screen. Makes the screen look milky. Anybody knows what's going on and how to fix it?

Take it to an Apple Store or other service provider for testing.

  • Help! N95 8GB Horizontal Lines on LCD Screen getti...

I was getting a few horizontal lines across my screen of my N95 8GB. Switching the slider from portrait to landscape doesn't change the direction of the lines.
The lines have been getting progressively thicker to the point where now it's hard to read anything on the phone.
Do I have a dying screen?
I've take the slider apart, detached and reattached the screen and ribbon cable connector, and it doesn't make any difference.
Should I buy a replacement screen or is there something else that could be wrong? The rest of the phone functions perfectly fine.

    Hi calciumicon,
It would probably be best to have your device checked by a Nokia Care point. From what you describe it might be the screen needs to be replace. The N95 is a model which has been out of production for a while though so check to verify it can still be repaired.

  • Visible Lines Across Screen -- help!

hi there is a thick visible white line across the screen of my ipod nano!! its been like this for a few months. i've tried using the apple repair thing but when i try to input my info into the form, some vital fields wont display (such as address!!) so i have been unable to send it to apple. any help appreciated.
    sarz x

well it sounds like your ipod has dead pixels(if you dont know what pixels are it is the little dots in the screen) in its screen and you cant fix it on your own you have to get it fixed by apple or some times the screen will fix itself but most of the time it dont.now i could be wrong but thats what it sounds like.
    hope this helps.
