Link Aggreagation, Speed and poor performance

I have two new servers:
Win2012 4 NICs using standard NIC teaming and The WIn2012 is a dual Quad XEON, 32 GB of RAM  with nothing installed besides the O.S., Dell R720XD
and
Win2008R2 - 4 NICs using Broadcom NIC Teaming and The WIn2008 R2 is a Quad XEON 16 GB of RAM, with nothing installed besides the O.S., Dell R710
When i test the speed, the traffic flows at no more than 250 Mb/s, at any circusntance. Tested with NTTCP tool and Windows explorer copying 300GB of files manually.
NTttcpR.exe -m 1,0,10.122.1.5          AND               NTttcpS.exe -m 1,0,10.122.1.5
But when i try to use a diff CPU, changing the command line parameters:
NTttcpR.exe -m 1,1,10.122.1.5          AND               NTttcpS.exe -m 1,1,10.122.1.5
That way, i can achive more thant 850 Mb/s!!!!!!!!
WHy is that?
I would like to test full 4 Gb/s speed if possible.
The first tests i´ve made in the past show me that it is impossible for a single threaded application to use more than 1 Gb/s NIC at the same time and to use the full 4 Gb/s of my 4 NICs, i´ll have to open multiple connections or multiple instances/threads
of applications, it is true?
The real goal here, is to make 5 TB backups with Ca Arcseve as fastest as possible.

After some reasearch we did find:
1) The LACP on Cisco Switch was correct and WIN2012 was using configured for "generic" teaming. After changing that, LAPC was enabled and  configured in Wi2012 and after some seconds, it was Up and running
2) The LACP was not configured in Switch for the WIn2008 machine (in fact, they have 4 Switches non-stackable and not directly connected and in practice, there was a misconfiguration) . We did some changes, and i could configure at least 2 NICs in the same
Switch, re-configure LACP (Broadcom software was using at the time, the generic link aggregation), i´ve disable 2 NICs in WIn2008 and build the Team using 2 remaining NICs, re-configured as LACP and now the LACP was up and running.
After that, the NTTCP application could use 800-900 Mb/s throughput in CPU 0
I think the problem was solved and you point out what i was thinking about, the fact that when people say that will "aggregate" bandwidth, they talking abouut multiple connections and/or multiple sources, not single threaded applications (in my
case Backup)
What i noticed too, is that the NTTCP tool show diferent results. When the first server is receiving and the other is sending, they show in the screen statistics about the transmission, but the vales presented are Always diferente form each other. Sometimes,
for example, the sending server shows 888 Mb/s but the receiving server shows 918 Mb/s, sometimes, the reverse, it´s a little "inconsistency" in the data results
The last thing is to learn how to use the NTTCP application to "force" to use all bandwidth available and wich parameters i can use, if i´ll need to configure multiple adresses or something else to prove that the link aggregation is really working

Safari hangs and poor performance in MBPR (Mid 2012)? OS X 10.10.2 is up to date

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Follow the instructions in this support article. Any change?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photos, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Bugs and poor performance in iphone 4 after upgrading to iOS 7*

    Dear Apple,
After upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 7, I'm experiencing lots of issues.
The performance is the poorest that I've ever seen since I adopted iPhone.
Constantly, I need to do the same action (to touch the screen) 3 times until getting any response from the device.
The new effects adopted in the new iOS 7 have lowered the user's interaction and decreased the usability.
Multitask in iPhone 4 with iOS 7 is not smooth and glitches happens all the time. E.g., when you are talking via skype, receives an phone call and needs to search for a contact in your contact list to say to whom is calling you.
How to survive using iPhone 4, with all these problems happening?
It's bothering us, because we love apple devices! it's a shot in the chest!

  • Invalid block count and poor performance

    Hi - Can anyone help?
Running an early 2011 13' MBP on ML. For a year - 18 months I've noticed poor performance at times, consistently slow boot (sometimes 5 minutes to usable), occasional lockups and spotlight often reindexes itself and slows the system (much more than my previous MBP), I can't see anything that triggers it. I'm also getting recurring errors in Disk Utility of 'Invalid block count', every time I'll repair the disk (booting into recovery), but after a month of use the error will reappear. About three months ago I erased and reinstalled ML, some of my data was moved over in Time Machine but I didn't restore from it. The erase and reinstall hasn't made any difference and I'm still seeing the same issues. Hard disk SMART status appears to be fine.
Can anyone recommend any troubleshooting steps? I'm not sure what else to do, still under Applecare and was thinking maybe the HD isn't working correctly?
    Cheers!

  • Crashing and poor performance during playback of a large project.

    Hi,
I've been a regular user of iMovie for about 3 years and have edited several 50GB+ projects of DV quality footage without too many major issues with lag or 'dropped frames'. I currently have a 80GB project that resides on a 95% full 320GB Firewire 400 external drive that has been getting very slow to open and near impossible to work with.
Pair the bursting-at-the-seams external drive, with an overburdened 90% full internal drive - the poor performance wasn't to be unexpected. So I bought a 1TB Firewire 400 drive to free up some space on my Mac. My large iTunes library (150GB) was the main culprit and it was quickly moved onto the new drive.
The iMovie project was then moved onto my Mac's movie folder - I figured that the project needs some "room" to work (not that I really understand how Macs use memory) and that having roughly 80GB free with 1.5GB RAM (which is more than used to have) would make everything just that much smoother.
    Wrong.
The project opened in roughly the same amount of time - but when I tried to play back the timeline, it plays like rubbish and then after 10-15 secs the Mac goes into 'sleep' mode. The screen goes off, the fans dies down and the 'heartbeat' light goes on. A click of the mouse 'wakes' the Mac only to find that if i try again, I get the same result.
I've probably got so many variables going on here that it's probably hard to suggest what the problem might be but all I could think of was repairing permissions (which I did and none needed it).
Stuck on this. Anyone have any advice?

I understand completely, having worked with a 100 GB project once. I found that getting a movie bloated up to that size was just more difficult with jerky playback.
I do have a couple of suggestions for you.
You may need more than that 80GB free space for this movie. Is there any reason you cannot move it to the 1TB drive? If you have only your iTunes on it, you should have about 800 GB free.
If you still need to have the project on your computer's drive, set your computer to never sleep.
How close to finishing editing are you with this movie? If you are nearly done except for adding audio clips, you can export (share) it as QuickTime Full Quality movie. The resultant quicktime version of your iMovie will be smaller because it will contain only the clips actually used in the movie, not all the saved whole clips that iMovie keeps as its nondestructive editing feature. The quicktime movie will be one continuous clip, incorporating all your edits and added audio. It CAN be further edited, but you cannot change text of titles already there, or change transitions or remove already added audios.
I actually do this with nearly every iMovie. I create my movies by first importing videos, then adding still photos, then editing with titles, effects and transitions. I add audio last, and if it becomes too distorted in playback, I export the movie and then continue adding audio clips.
My 100+ GB movie slimmed down to only 8 GB with this method. (The large size was due to having so many clips. The movie was from VHS footage of my son's little league all-star game, and the video had so many skipped segments that I had to split it into thousands of clips to remove the dropped ones. Very old VHS tape!).
I haven't upgraded to QT 7.5.5, but I heard that the jerky playback issue is mostly resolved with this new upgrade. I am in mid-project with about 5 iMovies, so I will probably plod along with my work-around method, not wanting to upgrade in the middle of any of them.
Hope this is helpful to you.

  • Skype crashing and poor performance

    Hello!
I have a Lumia625 with WP8.1. My problem is that Skype has a really poor performance on my phone. It crashes 6 times out of 10 on startup, and even if I manage to start it, the whole app is slow and laggy. Sometimes I can't even write a message it's so laggy. Video call is absolutely out of the question. It crashes my whole phone. I have no similar problems with other instant messaging apps nor with high-end games. There is something obviously using way more resource in the Skype app than it's supposed to. It's a simple chat program, why would it need so much resource?
The problem seems to be originating from the lower (512 mb) RAM size of my phone model, because I experienced the same effect with poorly written apps, that don't keep in mind that there are 512 RAM devices, not only 1GB+ ones, and use too much resource.
Please don't try to suggest to restart/reset the phone, and reinstall the app. Those are already behind me, and they did NOT help the problem. I'm not searching for temporary workarounds.
Please find a solution for this problem, because it is super annoying, and I can't use Skype, which will eventually result in me leaving Skype.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When it crashes on startup it goes like:
    I tap the skype tile
The black screen with the "Loading....." appears (default WP loading screen). Usually this takes longer than it would normally take on any other app.
For a blink of an eye the Skype gui appears, but it instantly crashes.
If I can successfully start up the app, it just keeps lagging. I sart to write a message to a contact, and sometimes even the letters don't appear as I touch them, but they appear much later altogether. If I tap the send message button the whole gui freezes (seems like it freezes till the contact gets my message). Sometimes the lag get stronger, and sometimes it almost vanishes, but if I keep making inputs when the lag is strong, sometimes it crashes the whole app.
When I first installed the app, everything was fine. But after a while this behavior appeared. I reinstalled the app, and it solved the problem temporarily, but after some time the problem re-appeared. I don't know if it's relevant, but there was a time when I couldn't make myself appear online all the time (when the app was not started). In that time I didn't experience the lags and crashes. Anyways, what I'm sure about is that the lags get worse with time. Idk if it's because of use of the app (caching?), or the updates the phone makes to itself (conflict?).
I will try to reinstall Skype. Probably it will fix it for now. I hope the problem won't appear again.

  • My solution for: Slow Installs and poor performance

So up until today, most of anyting on XP or even vista 64 ultimate was taking a very long time to install or copy from one part of the drive to another. Startup would grow longer and game performance was dying and only once ever did reinstalling the OS do anything. No matter what I did, nothing would fix the problem.
I ran multiple utilities (disk utility, disk warrior, tech tool deluxe, etc) but none said that there was a hardware problem. But this issue I was having (and I know some of you do) was definitely related to the computer. From my experience, I determined that there was no way this mac was perfect.
So I scheduled a service and repair at my apple store (under warranty). When it was done a few days later, sure enough, I was told that even though the utilities we users can use on our end to diagnose problems didn't find any problems, the hard drive did not pass apple's detailed inspection and was replaced.
In conclusion, I say that if you are having this problem, run disk utility and if you have the extra protection plan, download the Tech Tool Deluxe that apple provides on the support site. Disk utility may find some permission and disk issues but if Tech Tool doesnt find anything even on the surface scan, take it in to the apple store to have a Genius look at it. If it's not under warranty, it's up to you whether or not you want to spend that money. Overall, my computer both on Leopard and XP now runs just as it should.
    Hope that helps.

  • Frequent Broadband Resets and poor performance

I have tried everything on this forum to improve the reliability of my BT broadband connection. I am no at the end of the trail concerning alterations I can make to my internal configuration.
    My best configuration is now:
No internal extension wiring, no bell wire. The NTE master socket has an ADSL nation faceplate with inbuilt filters and the BT Home Hub 3 connected. I have BT graphite series remote phone set, with the answerphone plugged into the filtered faceplate.
There are no other connections in the house. All other wires and filters have been removed.
There has been progress made in that I now connect at 8 to 10 Mbs, but BT speedtest measures dowloads at 4-6mbs, even commenting that this is poor for my line speed. I now connect in fast mode not Interleave mode. The telphone still sometimes disconnects the broadband, but always causes errors resulting in blanking. • Lightroom 1.1 Import Stall and Poor Performance: a solution?

My lightroom is extremely slow (unusable) when trying to import approx. 1000 JPGs into a brand new, fresh catalog. I've got a Intel Mac 2.33Gz MBP w/2G RAM running 10.4.10 and lots of free disk space.
A workaround?: As soon as I select "Quick Collection" during the import (since I currently have no images in "Quick Collection", no images are displayed during importing), the import process immediately started progressing at reasonable and acceptable speeds. So this import performance and stall seems to be related to lightroom trying to display photos or metadata info on image sets that are in the process of being imported.

    Jerry,
What you suggest really is not an effective solution. Go to File>Catalog Settings>Metadata and uncheck 'Automatically write changes into XMP'. That should speed it up considerably. If you have already done that and are still having the problem, do a search for other solutions.

  • Extremely Slow Startup, Blue Screen, and Poor Performance

    Hello,
A couple of weeks ago my MBP 15" (late 2009 model) started performing really poorly. The colour wheel would spin for about 2 minutes if a launched any applications and everything was really slow. It also took about 10 minutes on the grey apple screen to startup and then another 10 or so on the blue screen before slowly revealiing my desktop.
I took it into the genius bar and the said it might be a corrupt file on the HD. Backed up my HD, zeroed the drive and reinstalled OS. Still the same problems. Ran disk utility several times and got various errors pertaining to HD or RAM.
Took it back into the Genius bar and they ran a long diagnostic on it, came back to me and said it is deifinatly the RAM. I replaced the ram, (2x2GB ddr3-1066 sodimm) and cleared PRam. Still the same startup and performance issues.
Any ideas would be appreciated as this is stressing me out big time as I dont know what else it could be?

Hmm... before this I think I would have restarted the computer in Safe Boot mode which deletes the dynamic-loader shared cache.
Not sure if it is relevant at this point
    Safe Boot
    # it forces a directory check of the startup volume.
    # It loads only required kernel extensions (some of the items in /System/Library/Extensions).
    # In Mac OS X v10.3.9 or earlier, Safe Mode runs only Apple-installed startup items (such items may be installed either in /Library/StartupItems or in /System/Library/StartupItems; these are different than user-selected account login items).
    # It disables all fonts other than those in /System/Library/Fonts (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
    # It moves to the Trash all font caches normally stored in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/(uid)/ , where (uid) is a user ID number such as 501 (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
    # It disables all startup items and login items (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
    # Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later: A Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache at (/var/db/dyld/). A cache with issues may cause a blue screen on startup, particularly after a Software Update. Restarting normally recreates this cache.

Did you run the Apple Hardware Test. What is the S.M.A.R.T. status, could be that HD is failing?

  • Lost Internect Connection and Poor Performance

    System Setup
    Motorola SB5100 Cable Modem->WRT610->WRT310
I have tried many configurations to get a consistent performant network with very little success.
    Problems:
    1) My DMA2100 Wireless Media Center cannot get consistent performance on either either wireless band... locate about 25ft from my router.  I've tried many configurations including change encription - Currently using WEP... seemed a little more stable.  If I look at the tuning screen, the proformance has constant spikes and dips and periodically drops out.
    2) I loose internect connection when using selected applications... Bit torrent, Flckr uploads...  When I loose the connection, I loose it to all machines, wired or wireless, and must reset the cable modem to restore my connection... I've tried multiple configurations of the WRT610 without success.  Currently I've disabled the 2.4G Band and I'm using only the 5G Band and have a second WRT310 configured for 2.4G Band.
I'm fairly PC literate, but not a network guru.  From the traffic, I see lots of threads that indicat problems with WRT610 and DMA2100.  I'm just surprised I cannot get a stable network that performs and allows streaming video to my living room.
    Any help for the ignorant?

  • Dropouts and poor performance

I'm on a long copper run, getting about as hi speed as expected around 3M (so profile looks ok)
But ping times regularly in high hundreds of ms or timeout (several times a minute), normally 60-80ms
Trace route & pings below during one of these periods compared to a relatively normal period. Also getting v high local error second on home hub.

I have WNDR3700 N600 as well and it's been working very well for about six months. I live in a block of flats (the walls are made of concrete) and the router is behind three walls. In this environment (I can see 15 other networks around me so it is pretty crowded here) I get full signal on 2.4GHz without problems. The 5GHz network is visible as well, but the signal is poor because of those concrete walls. The connection is really rock-solid, the settings is the best I have ever seen, it allows you to setup almost everything. I can really recommend it.

  • Instability and Poor Performance with 11 11/11 and 11.1

I've upgraded an OpenSolaris install to Solaris 11.1 over time and ever since I hit Solaris 11 11/11 and Solaris 11.1 my system has been unstable and slow (especially ZFS and GDM (which I had to disable in 11/11.1 because it was using too much CPU)). Whenever I shut down in Solaris 11/11.1 it causes a kernel panic. I run this command to shutdown:
    /usr/sbin/shutdown -y -g 60 -i 5
and it causes this (then the system auto-restarts -- it never completes the shutdown):

What could be causing all these issues -- why are the OpenSolaris and Solaris 11 Express installs faster/more stable? Is it a hardware incompatibility issue? How can I determine the root cause and fix it?
    Thanks.

Alan, if the cause is a 5400 RPM drive, I'm not sure why when I boot into my older BEs for Opensolaris/Solaris 11 Express/OpenIndiana I see much better ZFS performance. After I upgraded to 11.1 I noticed slowness and went back to my old Boot Environments and generated the dd read/write speeds I put in the top post, so it's not like any of the hardware changed during that hour I was bench marking between BEs nor did the amount of space used in my zpool change (it is mostly empty and I deleted everything that I wrote with dd after each test).

  • ADFSecurity and poor performance

Not sure if this is the right forum, but when I posted this in OC4J and Java EE forum, I was advised to post it here, so here I go...
We are seeing performance issues with apps in OC4J with ADFSecurity enabled, and security provider as OID. ADFBC apps show very poor response times. A button click takes 3 - 5 seconds to go to next page.
When we inspected the logs, we see that around 2.5 seconds (for a 3sec response) are spent on a getPermissions() method call, as below.
    ========================================================
    JAAS-LDAP: getPermissions([GranteeEntry: id=null displayName=null, (principal: cls=oracle.security.jazn.spi.ldap.LDAPRealmUser, name=xxxxx), (principal: cls=oracle.security.jazn.spi.ldap.LDAPRealmRole, name=OracleDASServiceAdminGroup), (principal: cls=oracle.security.jazn.spi.ldap.LDAPRealmRole, .........
    =========================================================
When ADFSecurity is disabled, the response is in milliseconds.
We have around 1700 permissions and around 50 grantees in this test env.
We tried turning cache on (ldap.cache.policy.enable=true, ldap.cache.realm.enable=true, ldap.cache.session.enable=true), increasing the cache initial capacity (ldap.cache.initial.capacity=2000) etc, but no improvement in performance.
Any help / thought will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Krishnan,
you may want to file a service request with customer support to help you tracking down the problem. This forum wont be able to help you with this instance specific problem without looking at your installation. One thing to check is how the performance is if the permissions are checked against system-jazn-data.xml instead of OID. If this is of much better performance then the problem is not in ADF Security but the access to OID
