Link Server Problem

Hello
I have 2 window dedicated server, both are window 2008 R2 with SQL Server.
I created linkserver on both server but when I run delete query than I get this error
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "XXX.XX.XXX.XXX" returned message "No transaction is active.".
The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "XXX.XX.XXX.XXX" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
Select Query is working.
FYI :
- Distributed service are run on both server
- I add Distributed Transaction Coordinator in firewall
- I change the setting of  Distributed Transaction Coordinator : local DTC : properties on both server
- Change the Server option of Link server (RPC : True , Distributor coordinator : true)
Please solve my problem.

Hi Deepshika,
I have followed almost all the the steps below but still error "No transaction is active" appears:
- Distributed service are run on both server
- I add Distributed Transaction Coordinator in firewall
- I change the setting of  Distributed Transaction Coordinator : local DTC : properties on both server
- Change the Server option of Link server (RPC : True , Distributor coordinator : true)
Could you let me know what step i am missing.

  • Oracle Linked Server problem in SQL Server

    I'm using the MS OLE DB Provider for Oracle in my SQL Server linking an Oracle 9i server to the SQL Server 2000 server. I get the following error when I try to execute a query thru the SQL Server Query Analyzer:
    [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDAORA' IOpenRowset::OpenRowset returned 0x80004005:   ]
    I can however define an ODBC connection and use DTS to get to the Oracle database just fine from the SQL Server machine. I need the linked server query to work though since I'll need it for a new application.
    Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I guess I'll answer my own question. I found that the setting SQL Query Analyzer was set to "Implicit Transactions" in the current connection properties. When I turned that off the query ran fine

  • Linked Server Problem while SQL Data Transfer using Non-sys Admin Account

    Hi Team,
    I've an issue while transferring the data from ServerA to ServerB. I've made the ServerB as "Linked Server" to Server A. Pre requisite like:
    1) SQL Account is been created on ServerB.
    2) Timeout settings for remote connections is set to "No Timeout".
    When I execute the below script using Query Window, It executes successfully:
    Insert into ServerB.DBName.dbo.TableName1
    Select * from dbo.TableName1
    But when I execute the same step by creating a SQL Job, it fails with the below error message:
    Message
    Executed as user: DomainName\UserName. Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [1450]. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 1450)  OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "ServerB" returned message "Login

    this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.". [SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7412).  The step failed.
    Could you please help me in fixing the above error message and I can transfer the SQL Data between 2 Servers.

  • Linked Server problem on Transaction Usage???

    Hi,
    I am using SQL Server 2008 R2 and we have a linked server connection to Oracle 11g. We have a table on Oracle thats why we need to do some CRUD operations on both servers. I got this error while trying to update/insert in both servers in a transaction as follows. How can I fix this???
    Best Regards.
    The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "***" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
    OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "***" returned message "New transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator. ".
    Sample code:
    conn.Open()
    myTransaction = conn.BeginTransaction()
    'This is ORACLE
    Dim comm As New Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand("UPDATE [***]..[**].[***] SET ApprovedBy=@approvedBy,ApproveDate=@approvalDate,Approved=@approved, StatusId=@StatusId where RequestID=@requestID", conn)
    'Add to Transaction
    comm.Transaction = myTransaction
    comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("@approvedBy", appBy)
    comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("@approvalDate", appDate)
    comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("@approved", app)
    comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("@StatusId", status)
    comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("@requestID", reqId)
    comm.ExecuteNonQuery()
    'This is SQL Server
    Dim comm1 As New Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand("INSERT INTO Table1 (DeliveryNo,VendorId) VALUES(@DeliveryNo,@VendorId)", conn)
    'Add to Transaction
    comm1.Transaction = myTransaction
    comm1.Parameters.AddWithValue("@DeliveryNo", deliveryID)
    comm1.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ID", ID)
    comm1.ExecuteNonQuery()
    'Commit Transactions & Close
    myTransaction.Commit()
    conn.Close()

    Open the OUI, click the Installed products button.
    You can also infer the info by checking to see if you have "OracleMTSRecoveryService" running in Services, and whether you have oramts.dll in your OH\BIN directory.

  • Linked server problem, its works locally but not from remote machine

    Hi,
    i am using the application NAV and have written the query in the application. am using automation variable to link to the SQL Server.
    The problem is that , the query which i have written executes only when i am working on local machine .
    I mean when i want to execute the same query from remote machine through my app Dynamics NAV then its not getting executed.
    Thanks in advance

    Depends on what you are trying to do and what security you are using.
    What error did you get?
    If you are using windows authentication then take a look at delegation

  • SQL 2008 Problem Calling an SP on an Oracle 10G Linked Server

    Hi everyone
    I've read through a number of posts on many sites about this issue but haven't found anything that has helped me so far. The machine I'm using is running Microsoft SQL Server 2008 64bit and the linked server I've created to Oracle 10G is using OraOLEDB.Oracle. If I test the connection in SQL Management Studio it succeeds and for any queries I have using OpenQuery to select from the Oracle DB I have no problem getting results.
    The Oracle 32bit client and 64bit client versions are installed on the machine.
    My problem is that I need to exec an Oracle SP which in turn inserts into various Oracle tables. I previously had this all working fine on 32bit SQL Server 2000 installation connected to Oracle 10G. Using the same code in SQL Server 2008 I get the following error:
    Msg 7357, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
    Cannot process the object "{CALL INTF.INTF_TW_PO_REQ_INTERFACE.MAIN(NULL, 15.000000, 0.000000, 'BLPO0099998', 'BLPO0099998', '', '', 39804, 21883, 'BLPO0099998', 249, 1, 950, 'Main', 190506, 37336, '1', TO_DATE( '20090706','YYYYMMDD' ), TO_DATE( '20090706','YYYYMMDD' ), 'INCOMPLETE',37336, {RESULTSET 1, P_Success})}". The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "ORACLE" indicates that either the object has no columns or the current user does not have permissions on that object
    The call is made by the following piece of code in SQL:
    SET @execCmd = N'SELECT
    P_Success
    FROM
    OPENQUERY( ORACLE, '''+ @oracleCmd + ''')';
    EXECUTE (@execCmd);
    Where @oracleCmd = {CALL INTF.INTF_TW_PO_REQ_INTERFACE.MAIN(NULL, 15.000000, 0.000000, ''BLPO0099998'', ''BLPO0099998'', '''', '''', 39804, 21883, ''BLPO0099998'', 249, 1, 950, ''Main'', 190506, 37336, ''1'', TO_DATE( ''20090706'',''YYYYMMDD'' ), TO_DATE( ''20090706'',''YYYYMMDD'' ), ''INCOMPLETE'',37336, {RESULTSET 1, P_Success})}
    I also tried using the below snippet from another post I found and got no joy either.
    declare @result varchar(255)
    exec ('BEGIN
    ?:= your_SP_Name(''arg1'', ''arg2'', etc);
    END;
    ',@result OUTPUT) at your_LinkedServerName;
    select @result;
    OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "ORACLE" returned message "ORA-06550: line 3, column 7:
    PLS-00222: no function with name 'INTF_TW_PO_REQ_INTERFACE' exists in this scope
    ORA-06550: line 3, column 1:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored".
    I can't figure out why it doesn't work in SQL 2008 when it worked fine in SQL 2000 - PLEASE HELP!
    Thank you
    Alida Hope

    Why development on 10g and production on 8i? Either both should be 8i or both should be 10g.
    If you will keep production on 8i and development on 10g then you cannot stop such errors as there are features that are enabled by default in 10g and both the versions have very big differences.
    Just go ahead and install 8i.

  • Trigger problem on Sql Server with linked server to Oracle

    Hi All,
    I have a simple insert trigger on Sql Server 2005, it uses linked server to Oracle.
    like that ;
    USE [YTM08]
    GO
    SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
    GO
    ANSI_NULLS ON
    go
    ANSI_WARNINGS ON
    CEATE TRIGGER [dbo].[YTM_TBLSTSABIT_I]
    ON [dbo].[TBLSTSABIT] FOR INSERT
    AS
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO YTM_ORACLE..SECTOR.STOCKS
    stock_name,
    stock_code,
    insert_date
    SELECT
    SBT.STOCKNAME,
    SBT.STOCKCODE,
    GETDATE()
    FROM INSERTED SBT
    END
    The YTM_ORACLE is a linked server and it's provider is OraOLEDB.Oracle.
    Trigger does not works for that linked server but other triggers for local
    sql server works fine...
    I get this error from sql server
    'Heterogeneous queries require the ANSI_NULLS and
    ANSI_WARNINGS options to be set for the connection. This ensures consistent query semantics. Enable these options and then reissue your query.'
    Does someone know how to solve this issue the right way?
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks !

    Hi Lars,
      Thanks for the data. I've already read this note and configure all this parameters. But when I'm executing the Create Source System in the BI system the process dies.
      If I look into the logs I see this:
    M  call semaphore clean-up function ...
    M  ***LOG Q0E=> DpSigGenHandler, Exception (c06d007e) [dpnttool.c   432]
      That's the reason why I start guessing about other possible problem.

  • Problem with linked server...error 7302

    I have a very perplexing problem with a linked server.
    We are running SQL Server 2008 on Windows Server 2003. We have two instances, PROD and TEST. Both instances have a linked server to a DB2 environment using the IBMDADB2 driver. Both linked servers are identical. Up until a few days ago, both linked servers worked fine. Suddenly, I started to receive the following error when trying to access the linked server on TEST:
    Msg 7302, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_testlinkedserver, Line 1
    Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "IBMDADB2.DB2COPY1" for linked server "cm_nw".
    I have tried *everything* save restart the server (which is going to come tonight), reregistering the .dll and querying through openrowset (openquery and testing the connection in SSMS both fail). This includes:
    1) Recreating the linked server
    2) Going into DCOM and modifying the msdainitialize and checking the permissions.
    I am logging into the server using Windows Authentication, but this has worked and nothing has changed on that instance at all. I'm in the Administrators group anyway, as is the SQL Server service account, and that group has permissions on MSDAINITIALIZE. There is nothing in the SQL Server or Windows logs to indicate why the linked server cannot be called.
    Note the linked server is set up to use a security context (user name and password) and both linked servers are identical in this aspect. If I recreate the linked server without a password and uncheck "Allow Inprocess" in the provider I get:
    The OLE DB provider "IBMDADB2.DB2COPY1" for linked server "CM_NW" reported an error. Authentication failed.
    Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "IBMDADB2.DB2COPY1" for linked server "CM_NW".
    OLE DB provider "IBMDADB2.DB2COPY1" for linked server "CM_NW" returned message " SQL30082N  Security processing failed with reason "3" ("PASSWORD MISSING").  SQLSTATE=08001
    ". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7399)
    I don't know if that is coming from the SQL Server end or the DB2 end.

    I was able to resolve this issue by editing the registry. I imported a registry file called "IBM DB2 ODBC Driver - DB2 X64" from one of my known working servers that has a linked DB2 server installed. So what I'm thinking is happening is that SQL
    Server is somehow editing the registry causing it to break.
    If you can go through the ODBC administrator and test your connection successfully, than you will know that the problem is not DB2 Connect but it's actually SQL Server.
    For anyone that is still having this issue I would look in the registry for any DB2 X64 drivers to see if you have any. If not you can always create the following registry file and call it "IBM DB2 ODBC Driver - DB2 X64.reg" .

    Once you've created this file go ahead and create a backup(if desired) of the registry and execute the reg file and restart SQL Server to see if this resolves your issue. If this does resolve your issue I would recommend taking a backup of your registry
    in case it breaks again. Keep in mind, other applications may experience issues that have been changed if you revert back to the backup.
    Hope this helps!

      i'd like to ask question about linked server.

      but in fact for test connection i was told "the test connection to the linked server succeeded".
      could  anyone help me? thank u very much
    best regards

    Hi,
    In addition to Tracy's post we have to know those answers as well:
    * what provider are you using for the connection
    * what do you connect to
    for example, if someone try to connect to oracle using sql server provider then several simple queries are going to work probably OK, but once you are trying to use T-SQL or any complex SQL query then the errors are starting.
    please post the connection string (without the password!) + the query that you are trying to use.

  • Facing problem in distributed queries over Oracle linked server

    Hi,
    I have a SQL Server 2005 x64 Standard Edition SP3 instance. On the instance, we had distributed (4 part) queries over an Oracle linked server running fine just a few hours back but now they have starting taking too long. They seem to work fine when OPENQUERY
    is used. Now I have a huge number of queries using the same mechanism and is not feasible for me to convert all queries to OPENQUERY, please help in getting this resolved.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ashutosh,
    According to your description, you face performance issues with distributed queries and
    it is not feasible for you to convert all queries to
    OPENQUERY. To improve the performance, you could follow the solutions below:
    1. Make sure that you have a high-speed network between the local server and the linked server.
    2. Use driving_site hint. The driving site hint forces query execution to be done at a different site than the initiating instance.
    This is done when the remote table is much larger than the local table and you want the work (join, sorting) done remotely to save the back-and-forth network traffic. In the following example, we use the driving_site hint to force the "work"
    to be done on the site where the huge table resides:
    select /*+DRIVING_SITE(h)*/
    ename
    from
    tiny_table t,
    huge_table@remote h
    where
    t.deptno = h.deptno;
    3. Use views. For instance, you could create a view on the remote site referencing the tables and call the remote view via the local view as the following example.
    create view local_cust as select * from cust@remote;
    4. Use procedural code. In some rare occasions it can be more efficient to replace a distributed query by procedural code, such as a PL/SQL procedure or a precompiler program.
    For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

  • UCCX 10.1 - Linked Server - Copying HR data to external SQL Server for reporting

    I have a customer that is migrating from UCCX 7 to UCCX 10.  They currently have a 2008 SQL Server R2 that they use for custom reports.  They have a package that runs nightly to copy relevant data from UCCX 7 to the their server and then run reports daily against that database.   Pretty easy when everything is in MS SQL.  My plan was to set up a linked server in SQL 2008 to the UCCX server.  This would allow me to easily run a query against Informix and move the data over as before.  However, I am having problems adding the linked server.
    I have installed the Informix drivers (both 32 and 64 bit) during the troubleshooting.
    The DSN is created and connects to UCCX just fine.
    When I attempt to add the linked server using 64 bit driver DSN I get the following:
    Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "UCCX101".
    OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "UCCX101" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed".
    OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "UCCX101" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed".
    OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "UCCX101" returned message "[Informix][Informix ODBC Driver][-11302] Insufficient Connection information was supplied". (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
    When I attempt to add the linked server using the 32 bit driver DSN I get the following:
    Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "32UCCX101".
    OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "32UCCX101" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7303)
    It appears to me there is a 32/64 bit conflict no matter route I go.
    Can anyone tell me what I am missing?
    Is there a better approach to take to achieve the ultimate goal?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    TIA
    John

    I have created linked servers on an SQL2K box that points back to CCX. First off, you have to set the password for the UCCX HR user to some known value.
    exec sp_dropserver 'fonccx9_01', 'droplogins'
    EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
    @server='fonccx9_01', -- Name of the Linked Server, when it is created.
    @srvproduct='Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC', -- OLE DB Provider.
    @provider='MSDASQL', -- Provider_name.
    @datasrc ='fonccx9-01', -- DSN Name of the ODBC Data Source.
    @provstr= -- ODBC Connection String.
    'Driver={IBM Informix ODBC};Server=fonccx9_01_uccx;Database=db_cra; Uid=uccxhruser; Pwd=Some-Password;'
    EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin
        @rmtsrvname = 'fonccx9_01',
        @useself = 'FALSE',
        @rmtuser = 'uccxhruser',
        @rmtpassword = 'Some-Password'
    Note that the server name is "fonccx9-01", but the dash is an illegal character in the server name, so you have to change that to an underscore. You still have to manually build the ODBC data source on the box where you are trying to create the linked server.

  • How to create a view on SQLServer 2008 as an OPENQuery select to a MYSQL linked server

    I am trying to create a view on SQLServer through Management Studio based on data on a MYSql server.
    I have created the Linked server and I am able to query all data.
    Using the syntax select * from OPENQUERY (linkedServer, 'select * from MYSQL-table') - This works fine
    What I am trying to do now is issue the following statement
    create view ViewnameToBeCreatedOnSQLServer
       as select * from OPENQUERY (linkedServer, 'select * from MYSQL-table')
    When I run this from SSMS I get the following error
    OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "TESTTSC2" returned message "[MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver][mysqld-5.0.95-log]Table 'FP.M3' doesn't exist".
    Msg 7350, Level 16, State 2, Procedure FPMaster3, Line 2
    Cannot get the column information from OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "TESTTSC2".
    The account I am using has create view privs and alter schema privs on the SQlServer side. I am assuming there are not isues on the MYSQL server side since I am able to successfully run the select statement using OPENQUERY.  There must be one small
    piece I am missing. has anyone experienced the same problem and were you able to find a solution?

    All the configurations seem to be in place correctly since I can SELECT any data with no issues. The statement
    select * from OPENQUERY (linkedServer, 'select * from MYSQL-table')
    works fine and I can change the table I am selecting from which all return data. Therefore, the objects all exists in MYSQL.
    The DSN is set up, the linked Server is good, the provider is set up, the DB account has all privs.
    It only fails when I try to create the view on SQLServer as a select from a remote table accessed via the linked MYSQL server. I connect to SQLServer with DB account PS which has full privs including CREATE VIEW and ALTER SCHEMA. The MYSQL pass-through account
    has read access to all objects in the MYSQL schema. I am trying to figure out if I might be missing some little part of this puzzle when trying to create a new object (CRESTE VIEW) vs. just reading the data (SELECT).
    The kicker in all this is that I did create a view on SQLServer in this manner about a year ago and I am able to see the view definition and that view still works! So, this is quite interesting that I am not able to create a new object.
    If there any specific information I could provide which might help, I am happy to do that. Just did not want to provide the details on all of the puzzle pieces if it can be avoided but if it comes to that then that's OK also.
    Thanks very much! I appreciate your help.
