Linking a custom object to an activity and importing records

I'm trying to create a link between an activity record and a custom object record. In essence, we will have 1 activity record with multiple associated custom object records linked to it. How do I import these multiple records to a specific activity record? I thought I could use the Activity: External Unique ID field but that field does not appear on the list of values available for importing to a custom object. Anyone have any ideas how to do this?

Ken, at this time the import wizard does not support this type of functionality. However, this could be done using web services.

Report on activities linked to custom object

Hi,
Is there a way show on a report each activity linked to a custom object record? e.g.
Custom Object name 1 , Activity 1 subject
Custom Object name 1 , Activity 2 subject
Custom Object name 1 , Activity 3 subject
When i use the Custom Object 1 reporting area i add the custom object "name" feild to my report then add "Activity Subject". Each custom object record can have many activity records, however when I run my report it says "No Results" despite there being data set up?
I tried a similar report but instead of showing activities i tried accounts, of which there are a number linked to a single custom object record. When i ran the report it showed a single row for each custom object record, almost as though it was a one to one realtionship between custom object and account, rather than a one to many?
Any thoughts on what might be going wrong? or how i can report on activities per custom object record?

Using CO and account subject area, it should be possible to show M:M associations between CO and Account.
But for CO and activity, reporting on M:1 association alone is possible using CO subject areas.

Assets linked to Custom Objects

Hi All,
I'm trying to find a way to represent the link between a Custom Object and an Asset. I know I can create an Asset under a Custom Object as a related record, but if I look at the details for that Asset, there is no field I can locate that will indicate the link between the Asset and the Custom Object record.
I'd appreciate any advice on how I can overcome this problem.

Unfortunately though I can't really use the vehicles record type as I'm somewhat restricted by my current system design.
So does this mean that there is no field on the main Asset record type that can link to any of the Custom Object record types?

Process steps on releasing activity and importing in consolidation of cms

I have a question on consolidation in nwdi,I have develpment configurations trackname_dev and trackname_con. I imported trackname_dev and checked out(asked for activity ,so created the activity) and modified an ess DC and then checked in to DTR and activated so it got activated without errors, so the code from inactive workspace is pushed and merged to active workspace its fine till now., when i released the activity its in cms consolidation queue when i hit import the activity in queue what is happening now.
How the changes i made in trackname dev in active workspace of DTR are pushed to tracknamecon
so does it takes from trackname _dev in active workspace of DTR and pushes to inactive workspace of trackname _con andthen build in trackname _con workspace and activated so if again the activation passes the code goes to active workspace of DTR of trackname _cons from where assembly takes place.Am i right?
In simple words what is the process taking place when i hit release the activity and then hitting the import in consolidation queue of CMS?
I am asking this because my activation has no errors and Modified DC is good in green in trackname_D buildspace but when i hit import in the consolidation tab in cms after import the same DC in trackname_C its red as broken dc as it has compilation errors.
Please give your valuable suggestions.

Hi,
I guess the problem is because of version/patch you maintained in DEV system is different when compared to Cons/Test system.
First step you need to do is just open the console of DEV & CONS check the SC versions and patch levels.
I think this might definetly resolve your issue.

Custom LegacyData Storage: Database Custom Objects Naming for 12i and 10G..

We are planning a migration from VMS system to release 12.0.0.1, Oracle 10g database.
We need to retain legacy data in the same database as the oracle apps. We are achieving the same by defining custom
schema to hold the data back up from legacy. This will be a typical sqlldr load, data volume expected is around 460 GB.
My questions:
1. To avoid patch applied in future overwrite the custom legacy tables, will it be safe to have
the schema prefixed as “XX”.
2. Will other custom database objects like tables, packages, views etc within the custom schema; have to be defined with
“XX” as a prefix to their names?
3. Is it safe to have a non-apps related data (legacy constraintless data in the same database) in a schema and database
objects without prefixed as “XX” ?

Not able to use # in custom sql is a known bug that wil be fixed in 11. The only workaround I can come up with is not using parameters and prepare the query "by hand" before using it:

Custom Objects

I have created a custom object and dragged it to the Custom Object Library. When I am on my disconnected designer, am able to use it.
But, I want let other use it.
Please tell me how do I export the custom object from the designer and import the custom object into the Livecycle workbench ES2 resources.

We are working to create a portlet that will integrate with the Crystal Enterprise reporting engine from Business Objects. The difficultly here is the authentication and authorization. Crystal can tie into Active Directory for authentication and authorization, but not the plumtree portal. We need the integration to work properly for all users in plumtree, whether they come from AD or not. As such, we need to build some type of custom authentication and authorization capabilities into our portlet.
Nonetheless, we plan to make as much use as possible with what is already provided. So our plan is to create a set of SQL tables that will tie together a crystal report with a list of groups in plumtree and define what rights those particular plumtree groups have on the report.
The reason I was interested in creating custom objects is as follows: If I could create a "crystal report" object in our plumtree portal, I would then have to do NO coding to allow administrators in plumtree to assign permissions for particular groups to those "crystal report" objects. My portlet would do a simple query of what "crystal report" objects the current user has access to and display them, and allow the user to interact with them. As it is, we are planning to create interfaces for adding and removing groups to a report, and giving those groups various levels of access to the reports.

Problem finding object for Custom Object Test

I need to create a custom object test that tests whether a an element is present after a record gets inserted into the database. The script is databanked and each iteration needs to insert a databanked record, then evaluate my custom object test to make sure the record was inserted. The trick is in writing the expression that finds the correct custom object. After one iteration, this is the code that finds the custom object;

Instead of always grabbing the object whose text is "Category D", I want to grab the object whose text is <<category>> (ie retrieved from a databank file). Search in the href or index isn't helpful because these will change with each iteration through my script.
I tried to modify the GetElementByPath to this:
RSWApp.om.GetElementByPath "window(index=0).link(text=dbValue|)", element
where dbValue is a local parameter that I set earlier on. When I run this, I get an object not found error.
Any ideas?

I much prefer to use RSWAPP.om.findElement. It is much more robust than FindElements. 
RSWApp.GetDatabankValue Is what is needed anytime you want to return Databank values to the VBA environment 
 
Your code should look something like the following: 
 
Dim dbVal as string
 
RSWApp.GetDataBankValue "MyDbVariable", dbVal 
 
This will return the contents of "MyDbVariable" which is defined and bound in the databank wizard to VBA variable dbVal. 
 
You can then use DBVal in your path:
 
RSWApp.om.GetElementByPath "window(index=0).link(text="" & dbVal & "" | href=""javascript:OpenModal('DocumentCategoryAddEdit.aspx?documentCategoryId=377','400');"" | index=19)", element 
 
If you decide to use Find elements instead of GetElementByPath, the syntax would like the following:

As you can see it is much simpler.

How can i disable a link/button after clicked while content active

i am building a website all on one page and am using the
spry framework so that it displays when clicked fades in
the issue is i dont want the link to work again after its been
clicked ie when the link is active then
when another link is clicked it is re activated and
can be used again!?
i am using the behaviours panel in dreamweaver?
cant seem to find an option to
toggle this function
i am not great at js or html

Because we are not privy to your code I shall answer this in general.
You can use the Spry Element Selector to target your link and to disable that link. When clicking another link you could cycle through your links and enable them before disabling the newly clicked link.

How to pass Custom object embedded in Collection

I'm building an J2EE application(Weblogic 7.0) with swing Client. Our requirement
is to add custom objects in a Collection and return it to Client thru web service.
I dont know how to write build.xml so that ant utility created its own parser
file for the cutom object. We may have lots of custom objects . These objects
are being returned by a generic response object . I mean a Collection may conatin
different custom objects depending upon context. This Collection is embedded in
the generic response object. Can anybode help me to write a buil.xml for this.
Please suggest a best solution.

Contd.......I forgot to mention one thing. We are supposed to use StatelessSessionBean
as front controller. In this context we can use the ant task for converting this
front controller to web service.

Is there any way to report on Custom Object 3 other than lists?

Looks like the answer is no but just wondering if anyone has come up with a brilliant work around. I guess the only chance is with Web Services, or is Custom Object 3 the red headed step child there as well?
I read in an earlier thread that R15 fix/patch may enable the ablity to report in analytics OD on the Custom Objects, any idea if Custom Object 3 will be included?
I wish the documentation pointed this out somewhere! It would have been nice to know before I created the Objects funtionality!

It is my understanding that the patch will be applied automatically for all customers. The patch will enable reporting on custom Objects 1, 2 & 3 and will have subject areas for Custom Object, Custom Object & Account, Custom Object & Opportunity, Custom Object & Contact, and Custom Object & Service Request.
(That is 5 subject areas per custom object for a total of 15 new subject areas!)

Java object with ArrayList of custom objects not working

I have a custom java object that has an ArrayList of another set of custom objects (code listed below). I can pull back a Customer object (to flex client) and it's recognized as a Customer action script object, but the ArrayList in the Customer object is not recognized as an ArrayCollection of Accounts. Instead it is an ArrayCollection of Action Script Objects.
At first I thought something was wrong with my action script Account class, but then I tried to pull back just an Account and it was recognized as an action script Account. It's just when I have my Customer object with an ArrayList of Accounts that it isn't getting converted.
Is there something else I need to do to have that ArrayList be recognized as an ArrayCollection of Accounts on the Flex Client side? Is there some way of specifying what type an ArrayCollection is mapped to?

I accidently found how to make this work. I may have missed something while reading about blazeDS reflection, but I thought I'd pass this along anyway.
What I have is I have an class A. In class A I have an arraycollection of Class B. If I want that arraycollection to return to the server with the correct class, then I need to include Class B in the compiled swf. How I have done that is to create a dummy variable of type B. Importing B will not work you actually need to have a member variable of type B even if you don't need it.

Auto-populate fields in Custom Object Based on Another Record

Hello,
I am hoping to auto-populate a few default values in a new Custom Object record based on an associated Lead record. The layout is this:
I use the Lead record to take care of most of the information in the sales stages until the product is sold. The Lead record has fields to record information for a one product sale. The sales person can then use the Custom Object (called 'GX Additional Product') (which shows up in the Related Information section of the Lead record) to add additional items to a sales order request. Many of the fields in the GX Additional Product (custom object) record are identical to fields already filled out in the Lead record.
What I would like to do, is when a new GX Additional Product (custom object) is added to the Lead record, those identical fields already filled out in the Lead record, by default, populate the corresponding fields in the new GX Additional Product (custom object) record.
Is this possible? Is this something that can be done with JoinFieldValues? If so, I've had a bit of confusion trying to set up a JoinFieldValues expression.

Hi,
You can use JoinFieldValue to Custom Objects from other entities, cause you will have other objects' ID recorded inside the CO's, when you open a new detail record associated with the parent. Make sure your custom object is showing as a detail section (N:1) into lead´s main page. Try with one field first, using the exact syntax provided at samples listed at product documentation.

XML Export and Import

Hi
I knew that BW metadata can be trasformed using XML Using export and Imoport but how to make selection of set of BW objects through metadata export and import in XML format.
For example i would like to export some 10 infoobjects to the PC WORK Station and would like to Import the same XML file to another BW system.

Hi,
You can do it from RSA1 -> Transport Connection.
Under XML->Export, choose "InfoObjects by Application components". Then select the ones that you need to export and drag on the right pane.
Once you finish collecting all the InfoObjects, click on the "Export as XML" button and it will generate the XML.
